Technology in the Workplace

This blog will explore how technology impacts the workplace and its importance. It will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages it has in the workplace. Technology is becoming a “major component of human resource and workforce development” (Hughes et al., 2019).  Those living in the 21st century are using technology in their everyday lives and it plays an important role (Emma et al., 2019). In Snehnath Neendoor’s article “The Role of Technology in the Workplace” (2019) she discusses the advantages and disadvantages of having technology in the workplace. Relatively, Linda Emma’s article discusses the importance (Emma et al., 2019) whereas Grant discusses the impact of technology in the workplace (Grant et al., 2019).

Throughout the years, technology has developed into an accessible and efficient source to produce work. It has also integrated into many businesses creating a more productive and efficient work environment for the employees. Without having some form of technology companies can suffer since their competitors may be using even more advanced technology. With the help of new and developing programs accuracy, communication, and overall work becomes easier (Emma et al., 2019). However, with this steadily growing technological methods, there are disadvantages involved. Jobs will be taken over for example, there may be a new program to assist or even take over accounting (Grant et al., 2019). With having a program with precise and accurate calculations a human accountant becomes too liable for mistakes. Another benefit of having technology in the workplace is that the work itself does not have to be in the place of business. Work can now be taken home to avoid working late nights and to get ahead of the work. The downside of this would be that there would be no escape or excuse to not do the work assigned (Grant et al., 2019). Overall, technology is a necessity in the workplace to continue growing as a business.
