imagine a neon future cave of the nadir, bought out and turned into a cinema where you forget what you watched the second you leave – you can have the experience of watching a film for the first time forever!
(plus you could go in a horror angle with it: people who've found a film they keep coming back for, over and over and over until their eyes are filled with irrigo and they're left as eyeless skeletons in their reclinable seats. and the staff nick their wallets.)

@capn-twitchery he collects classic cars AND he likes to drive like a menace! He knows his limits so nothing bad ever happens, it's just that his limits go waaay beyond what's allowed by traffic laws.
He mostly drives 70s executive class Mercedes in the neon future because he prefers the vintage squarish designs to the modern ones (red interiors are a must, obviously):

but he does appreciate the modern Oberklasse comforts too:

He also had some older cars in the sixth city (the earliest models were Daimler-Benz). Sadly they all got obliterated by the fall of the seventh:

I've had Neon Future on the mind. (spoilers under the cut)
Technically this is a Fallen London fanart? I guess. I took the color palette I draw Asher's fifth city look with and tried to adapt it to something modern/neon future.
I think they're something more like an investigative journalist in Neo Berlin. They've never really been a cop and they sure as hell ain't gonna start now.
I also like the idea of like some alternate version of the game where our respective Victorian characters are those NPCs that you find out have been around FOREVER. At this point there has to be some kind of Old Person Club for people that survived more than one city falling.
How I imagine Asher would feel about The Future, as someone born in 1872...AC is nice. Adaptive technology is better than it was back then. They'd be really into audiobooks.
This is also a design for a project I've been brainstorming but it's probably going to be a DOOZY.

if your fallen london character survives to the seventh city and you don't have a plan for their 90s phase, you should get on that

Now I have very little context for Neon Future, but the concept has me obsessed so, without further ado I present to you Neon Future! Deirdre, a.k.a. a version of her that has discovered early 2000s cargo pants, novelty prosthetic eyes, chainsmoking and probably has a bit less unresolved issues.
Though I feel like there should be a fairly big character development journey before she can feel comfortable rocking the butch/dapper jacket and bowtie combo.
Some inspo pics below the cut ;)

MAJOR EVOLUTION SPOILERS!!!! DONT READ IF YOU'RE NOT DONE IREM!!!! .
.
. . . . .
what do you guys think Neon Future tomb colonists look like? with the miles of medical advancements made in the 200 odd years between Fifth City and Seventh City, i think they'd be a lot less bandages and a lot more prosthetics.

ASSIGNMENT - 5 (DRAFT- 2)
The Whispering Plates
In the year 2104, amidst the bustling megastructures of Ahmedabad, Kajal found herself in the heart of a culinary revolution. Her small, sunlit kitchen was a sanctuary of innovation, where ancient wisdom intertwined with futuristic tech. The centerpiece? A sleek, lay-flat food printer affectionately nicknamed "Annapurna." The device, no bigger than a cutting board, rested silently on the counter, humming with potential.
Kajal had inherited her love for food from her grandmother, who had once taught her the art of traditional Jain recipes. But in this age, cooking was no longer bound by fire and pots. Annapurna listened, quite literally, to Kajal’s thoughts and needs, adapting recipes to her dietary preferences with precision.
"Good morning, Annapurna," Kajal greeted, running a finger along its smooth surface. The device lit up, displaying a serene interface of swirling colors.
"Good morning, Kajal," it responded in a soft, melodic tone. "Today's menu is ready. Shall we begin?"
Kajal nodded. "Let’s prepare khakra with a touch of innovation."
The food printer began its work, synthesizing ingredients with micro-precision. Pulses of light danced across its surface as layers of dough formed. Annapurna infused them with a hint of turmeric and fenugreek, calculated to perfection for both flavor and nutritional balance.
While the khakra printed, Kajal reached for her kajal stick—not just an ornament of tradition but an artifact of tech. Embedded with neural sensors, the kajal acted as her interface with Annapurna, translating her gestures and voice into commands.
"Add a swirl of masala powder," she said, tracing a finger through the air. Annapurna acknowledged, adjusting the recipe in real time.
The act of cooking had become an institution in Kajal’s household, a daily ritual where food and technology converged. Annapurna did not merely print meals; it curated experiences, remembering the family’s preferences and adapting to their changing health needs.
One evening, while Kajal prepared a special Jain thali, Annapurna paused.
"Kajal, I’ve noticed a deficiency in Vitamin B12 in your recent meals. Would you like me to fortify this dish?"
Kajal blinked, surprised. "Yes, please."
The printer adjusted, integrating a subtle blend of fortified ingredients into the recipe. Kajal watched in awe as Annapurna balanced tradition and innovation seamlessly.
When the meal was ready, the aroma of freshly printed khakra and sabzi filled the air. Kajal served the food on her grandmother’s brass plates, a poignant nod to her heritage. As her family gathered, the printer softly chimed, “Enjoy your meal. Let me know how I can improve tomorrow.”
Later that night, Kajal stood by the window, looking at the glowing skyline. The kajal stick lay beside Annapurna, both silent but brimming with possibilities. In this world of hyper-technology, her kitchen had become a temple of sustenance and stories—a place where tradition whispered through every byte and bite.
