3DS Apps That 3DS Hacks Guide Won't Tell You About
The 3DS Hacks Guide is the guide to follow regarding CFW setup for our beloved 3DSes, and even features a few apps preinstalled as a part of setup finalization.
If you're familiar with homebrew 3DS software to any extent, you've definitely heard of FBI, Anemone, Checkpoint, Universal Updater, and GodMode9. BUT, there's a few apps and services that I would recommend for users intending to use their new CFW 3DS longterm.
hShop - A full archive of the 3DS eShop, pre-closure. It features every piece of software that was formerly available on the eShop, as well as some fan translations, rom hacks, and extra homebrew tools and games. Everything is ready-to-use, but they also have an on-system app that allows you to download and install directly without the need to access the SD card!
NetPass - A service that allows the swapping of StreetPass data over the Internet! Using their app and servers, you can seamlessly send and receive StreetPass tags with anyone, anywhere in the world! Works for any game or app that uses StreetPass! Also available to download on Universal Updater!
Pretendo Network - An in-progress rebuild of the entirety of Nintendo Network. Installing their service allows you to create an ID through their servers and begin using their network to play games and meet 3DS users worldwide! This includes a massive project to bring the entire 3DS and WiiU library back online (unofficially tracked here), as well as rebuilding Miiverse, StreetPass Relay service, and friend services! A lot of the base service is already live for all users, and there are plenty of games that are currently under development, and several in beta stages of release.
These are my recommendations to get in on as soon as possible! If you have a homebrew 3DS that you use all the time, or one that you wish you used more, this is the way to do it.

posting daily until tomodachi life 2 comes out
day 221
do you miss getting streetpass’s on your 3ds? do you miss having travelers miis visiting your island? are you worried that you’ll never collect all the import wear items? do you have an army of travelers stuck at the port that will never get to leave the island!?!? (well they’re gonna still be stuck there for a while because travelers leaving your island doesn’t work yet but the devs are working on it dw)
anyway as i was saying COME CHECK OUT NETPASS!
“Introducing NetPass: In the current state of the world, the 3DS is, sadly, on decline. That makes getting StreetPass'es harder and harder, due to fewer and fewer people taking their 3DS with them on a walk. This is where NetPass comes in!
Unlike StreetPass, NetPass works over the internet. Upon opening NetPass, you can pick various locations to go to, i.e. the train station, or a town plaza. Upon entering a location, you get passes of others who are in the same location! And, while you are at the location, others who enter it can get passes with you. But beware! You can only switch locations once every 10 hours!”

Ye Of Homebrewed 3DS have a chance of getting this swapnote with audio for the next 10 hours or so if you open the homebrew app NetPass and select location "MALL" (be sure to have streetpass enabled for swapnote as well)

If you're an active 3DS user with a homebrew system, I recommend trying out the fan service Netpass! (also available to download through Universal Updater) It's essentially a program that has a few "locations" to travel to, and when you do so it swaps Streetpass data with other app users in the same "location". So far it works great! Really awesome way to simulate Streetpasses with people who are far away, or just to Streetpass at all in a post-3DS support world.

What is netpass? How does netpass work?
First I'll explain streetpass. Streetpass connects local 3DS's together and shares data between them. When someone with a 3DS walks past you (and they are both turned on), you'll streetpass eachother :) Lots of games have this functionality built in and it's super fun!
Netpass does this but virtually. When you run netpass, it essentially makes a virtual 3DS that walks around for you. You choose a location for it to walk around in and it'll collect passes for you. You can turn off your real 3DS, leave it running, put it in sleep mode, whatever- the virtual 3DS will continue walking because it's on the Netpass Server.
Every hour you have the chance to bump into people. this is mutual so if you netpass someone they'll netpass you as well!
You can check on this virtual 3DS whenever you want by opening the netpass app. Whenever you check on it it'll reupload your data (basically updating the data so that your streetpasses are accurate) and it'll download the new passes you got!
Every 8 hours you can change your location and after a while your virtual 3DS will go back home on it's own if you don't check in on it (after a month I think?)
Also you can go into the "back alley" which lets you spend play coins for an extra pass chance but for a specific game/application- which is useful for some of the more rare games. That way if you want to get streetpasses for monster hunter you can get at least one every few hours.
At first it'll be slow, and you'll only get one pass or none at all, but after 24 or so hours you'll likely have around 10 passes! This means that every day you'll have plenty of streetpasses, much more than you're likely to get in a normal situation.
