Exploring India's New Education Policy and Its Implications on the Education Sector
Tumblr media
India's New Education Policy (NEP) has sparked widespread interest and discussion since its announcement, promising transformative changes to the country's education landscape. As we delve into exploring its implications on the education sector, it is essential to understand the context and rationale behind this policy overhaul.
The NEP, approved by the Union Cabinet in July 2020, marks a significant milestone in India's educational journey, replacing the three-decade-old National Policy on Education, 1986. It aims to address the evolving needs of the 21st century and align India's education system with global standards while preserving its cultural heritage and diversity.
At its core, the NEP envisions a learner-centric, holistic, and inclusive education system that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and innovation. It emphasizes universal access to quality education from early childhood to higher education and seeks to bridge the gap between different stages of learning.
One of the key implications of the NEP is its focus on foundational literacy and numeracy, recognizing the importance of building strong foundational skills in students during the early years of schooling. It also emphasizes the integration of vocational education and skill development into the mainstream curriculum, aiming to equip students with practical skills for employability and entrepreneurship.
New Education Policy 2020: Reshaping India's Educational Future
1. Introduction to India's New Education Policy (NEP)
The National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 represents a significant paradigm shift in India's education landscape. This comprehensive framework, introduced by the Government of India, marks a departure from the National Policy on Education of 1986, with the aim of addressing the evolving needs and challenges of the 21st century.
NEP seeks to overhaul the entire education system, encompassing aspects ranging from early childhood education to higher education and vocational training. It emphasizes the importance of holistic development, promoting multidisciplinary learning, and integrating vocational skills into the curriculum from an early age.
NEP also prioritizes universal access to quality education, with a focus on inclusivity and equity. By addressing longstanding issues and embracing innovative approaches, NEP endeavors to create a dynamic and future-ready education system that prepares students to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Role of STEM Education in National Education Policy
Tumblr media
India introduces the New education policy which is basically a major reform in the education system. it is notable that such reforms become a turning point for the citizen of the country. The new education policy is framed with the purpose to meet the demands of the 21st century and more towards a more practical and experimental approach so that innovation and research could be strengthened.
Thus, a specific discipline is called STEM education. Science technology engineering and math are the four pillars of our economy and through STEM education students learn facts and methods of thinking that can be applied to solve real-world problems. STEM is not just technical but extremely creative and fun in its own way. In India, students and parents have always relied on STEM given the high chances of employment and growth.
Significance of STEM education in New Education Policy
The New education policy rebuilds education in the schooling system and aims to make it easier by compressing the syllabus and moving toward the study of “core essential” subjects of which Steam education coding is one of them. Introducing STEM to every classroom is the first step toward enabling tech literacy.
Our children are exposed to mobile devices and voice assistants from an early age. So it is necessary to introduce the children to STEM early on and not wait until college for coding and website creation.
The New education policy establishes one and only regulatory authority to govern the teaching institution which is All India Council for Technical Education AICTE which creates uniformity and transparency in the education system.

Foreign varsities can now set up India campuses, but no e-classes
- Lawyer2CA®️
The University Grants Commission (UGC) announced the draft regulations for 'Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India.
Foreign universities will be able to set up their campuses in India for the first time with the UGC on Thursday unveiling draft norms, under which these varsities can also decide on the admission process, fee structure and repatriate their funds back home.
Noting that foreign universities with campuses in the country can only offer full-time programmes in offline mode and not online or distance learning, UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar said the foreign universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) will need a nod from the UGC to set up their campuses in India.
The new National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 has envisioned that top universities in the world will be facilitated to operate in India. For this, a legislative framework facilitating such entry will be put in place, and such universities will be given special dispensation regarding regulatory, governance, and content norms on par with other autonomous institutions of India,” Kumar said.
According to a survey by the National Institute of Education Planning and Administration, eight foreign universities have expressed interest in setting up their international campuses in India. Five of these are US and one each from the UK, Australia and Canada.

Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another.” A famous quote By famous Nobel Peace Prize Winner NELSON MANDELA.No country can really develop unless its citizens are educated. The Educational system has transformed in present days with new polices and new implementations yet to start …presently the trend is the Digital Classes or Online Classses or E-Teaching what ever name we call it..But From few months its been a nightmare to many children in india .The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted the education sector globally. Classes have been suspended to enforce social distancing TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF CHILDREN FROM THE VIRUS.The educational institutions, from schools to universities, have shifted to online methods of teaching and evaluation. As the number of cases continues to rise, there is no certainty about when the normal situation restores .This has encouraged some sort of a permanent tilt, if not a complete shift, to online education. As we all know that there is a shift in the Education system in past few years has slowly started and know we are running forward to a completely digitized ways of education. For most of The children for Access to e-teaching , they’ll have to depend on inconvenient methods such as mobile phones..Where very few are using computers or laptops. The new National Education Policy (NEP) approved last month also talks about being ready for digital and online education. The 2017-18 National Statistical Office (NSO) survey has highlighted caution against a sudden push towards online education in India. AND IT IS FAR MOST difficult in India where most of the Families have lack of internet access and is much more difficult to the poorest of the poor.Access to these facilities was higher among students at higher levels of education. But even at the highest levels, a large share of students did not have access to these facilities. As expected, access to the internet and computers is directly related to household incomes. The internet access must have increased since the 2017-18. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number of internet subscribers increased from 446 million to 719 million between 2017 and 2019. The bulk of this growth has come from wireless connections (272 million out of 273 million). While mobiles can be useful in listening to online lectures, they are not the ideal medium when it comes to writing exams or even assignments. Lack of access to the internet and devices has also created a gap in digital literacy. As many as 76% of students in India in the 5-35 age group did not know how to use a computer. The share of those who did not know how to use the internet was 74.5%. Once again, this gap rises with a fall in income levels. 55% of students among the top 20% of households by monthly per capita expenditure (MPCE) knew how to use a computer and internet while these proportions were only 9% and 10% among the bottom 20%.54% of humanities students (at the graduate level or higher, including diplomas) did not have access to the internet and 81% did not have access to computers. The share of students in private unaided and aided institutions with computer at home (36% and 30% respectively) was higher than in government institutions (25%). To be sure, even these numbers are likely to overestimate the number of students who may benefit from online education. This is because having a computer or internet facility at home is not a guarantee of uninterrupted access to it.There are some instances where lack of resources to take online exams was commonly seen in few regions . there was an instance where A father working as a daily wage with two sons was worried about their final-year exams as the keypad of the phone they shared was not working and and the internet was slow. For such families, a sudden shift to online education can also strain their spending capacity.Rough estimates suggest pursuing online education can be very costly for the poorest households. For example, they show that playing a 480p video (or a video with a resolution of 854×480 pixels) on YouTube can consume about 264 MB of data per hour. Five hour online lectures for five days a week on the platform would then mean consuming 26.4 GB data a month. The National Educational policy emphasises on preventing drop-outs and aims to increase the gross enrollment ratio in schools..BUT If India has to focus on online learning, it would do well to ensure students have access to devices and internet connections AND ENSURE THAT NO CHILD IS LEFT WITHOUT VALID EDUCATION.
