#happynewyear2022 Another year that goes by and instead of feeling happy about what I was able to achieve, I still feel stuck because of what not the things that I could do and that I did not do, I managed to graduate and start another stage of my life, I managed to take a drawing course that I loved and met tons of amazing people so much and made invaluable friendships. It was also a difficult year in many things, they were part of that caused by my attitude or by wanting that I was doing the right thing, that led me to really Low points in my emotional cell which is not solved and that I just put aside and I try to ignore it until they get so big that it is impossible to breathe with them, I really only set a goal this year and I did not achieve it and it is a silly goal and really easy but I just did not meet it, it does not frustrate me but it frustrates me so much other things that I can't distinguish because I really have this feeling but hey another year goes another year comes another year in which I had and could and another year in which I could and will have. #newyearthoughts #muchotexto https://www.instagram.com/p/CYLBaolLRI4/?utm_medium=tumblr

A round thingy for the new year

I didn't want to get up. But I did get out of bed, tied my long, black hair in a bun and slowly made my way to the kitchen. I stooped down to one of the cabinets to open its door and get the interior of an old rice cooker then got a spoon from the dish dryer. I was now set.

I greeted the new year banging hard on a trusty thin piece of metal, one that continues to cook certain dishes including paksiw on certain days (I wonder where its exterior shell is, it being where one steamed rice during its heyday).

This sort of reflected my usual "non-grandiose" way of welcoming another calendar year. I paired my greeting with some snacks, eating a couple of mini-Snickers I was happily gifted with by dear relatives and some torta from a neighboring island and leftover puto flan (from a family clan gathering several hours earlier), then a gulp of calamansi juice courtesy of my husband's cold glass. Come to think of it, I'm glad that he joined me for my past-midnight snack after he turned on a car in the garage, honked the horn and let its radio blare out very loud music (our son had gone out to the neighbors'--relatives'--house to also join them earlier in the merry noise-making). It sort of removed the little guilt I had for not making biko, ham, and other goodies usually associated with Media Noche.

So, new year. Hello, 2018 and goodbye, 2017. Here's to another roller coaster ride. Hope my meager welcome party will still make the days ahead full of prosperity, joy and all the good stuff despite also not having apples, grapes, oranges and other round-looking fruits on the table that supposedly bring luck in the coming new year.

The bottom of the pot I frantically banged on was round. It still counts, right?

2019 has just begun, yet I'm starting to feel all sorts of pressure about almost everything in life. Just when I thought that it's gonna be a stress-free year, I guess it's more likely to be the other way around. Yesterday, I had this rare convo with my parents and I was asked about my plans for this year (refering to my career specifically) and honestly, I wasn’t too prepared for that question. It’s something I really did not expect from them and the fact that I was being asked about it right on the very first day of the year, it felt unusual and really caught me off guard. I found myself unable to speak and that I had to think for a moment, but I just couldn’t seem to find the right words to say. I started to feel the pressure slowly building up within me, then it hit me - my dad will be retiring from work in a few months and bills just keep piling up. Apparently, this means that soon I’d have to take care of everything and will eventually become the sole breadwinner of the family. Not too sure tho if I'm ready to handle such huge responsibility but I have to prepare myself and do it no matter what cos it's for my family anyway. It's just a bit unfortunate though that working in my homeland cannot sustain all our expenses and that I've got no choice but to find my luck somewhere else. Just the thought of having to find a new job abroad and move somewhere far away from home makes me feel extremely exhausted. I don't even know how and where to start. I know how hard it is to find a decent job overseas nowadays due to the fact that there's a very tight competition in the market and limited opportunities available. But I guess, it's just a matter of believing in oneself, strong will and perseverance that will surely take you places.

Srsly, I wanted to take things one at a time but I feel like I've had to get everything done the soonest possible. The fact that I only have very little time (since I had to set a deadline for myself) to sort things out is extremely tiring and draining indeed. It feels like I've got the weight of the whole world on my shoulders. I can't even imagine how am I supposed to make all these things happen in just a span of 3-4 months, but I just can't wait here and do nothing. I have to do something and help myself get through all of this. I guess this calls for another incredibly rough and challenging year, but I'm definitely up for it. Thus, I am placing 2019 in God's hands cos I know everything is possible through Him. 🙏🏻

P.S. Gonna work on a few other goals am trying to set myself up to achieve this year. Hoping to make all these things happen and that I get to tick them off the list by the end of the year. All the best for 2019! Aja! 💪🏻
