I've been finally getting into Baldur's Gate 3 (late to the party as always lol) and all I can say is that I would have been 100% on board with the Emperor's plan.

mishanks mafia au where shanks is the don of the gol family and and mihawk is a hitman hired by the government (it's a conspiracy!) to kill shanks.

when mihawk shows up, shanks puts up a great fight, and even tho shanks loses (he's on the ground with hawk's blade at his throat!), mihawk decides shanks is way funner than the government and doesn't kill him after all. mihawk intends for this to be the end, with exception for perhaps more fights in the future, but shanks has already fallen on love and starts trying his damndest to get mihawk to work for the gols.

mihawk always refuses, but when the government puts out a hit on mihawk because he broke contract, mihawk finds himself thoroughly protected by the gol family anyways. shanks, however, doesn't save mihawk fast enough to spare the hitman some torture so, in retaliation, shanks brings down the entire government and exposes the conspiracy while he's at it, with the finale being a grand announcement that mihawk is his, actually, back the fuck off and don't try this again.

by the end, mihawk still doesn't work for the gols, but if he marries into the family, well. "there's still a difference, red." (shanks whines about this daily.)

Two very fun things arrived in the last 24 hours.

The first is the Charing Cross Jacob Frye figure that I found for a bargain price on Vinted.

The second is Jacob's MtG* card which my wonderful Wife found for me.

*I don't play MtG. I just wanted Jacob's card. Next thing to do is find a frame so he came go up on my fandom** art wall.

grad visit (almost) over and god I’m glad I got in here. the astro grad students seem really happy, I have a good research fit with a professor who seems open to me joining his group, and the admissions chair said that come hell or high water we have five years of guaranteed funding even if that means there are no new grad students for a year or so

mom wanted me to move in with her in utah for a winter, instead of going from the hottest southwest summer straight to widwest winter, to let me acclimate, and then it wasnt even that cold in utah this winter so she felt like the acclimating was a failure, but what i've learned about the cold in this mild utah winter is that every single time i underestimate it i get sick
