He refuses to believe it. He ignores Phil’s skin as it changes from pink and alive to a pale, pasty gray. He dismisses how Phil’s bones begin to poke through his skin. He looks away when Phil stumbles and groans. He ignores the obvious until he can’t anymore. 

The highway stretches on for miles. Sooner or later they will arrive at a town. With that come new challenges and benefits. First, they acquire supplies. After that, they flee as quickly as they can. The more populated a town was before the more zombies now. A larger settlement means more resources but also more zombies.

It all began to blur. The past months felt like a cruel time loop. Walk. Raid a town. Walk. Raid a town. Walk. Over and over again. Nothing ever changes.

The highway was empty and quiet. It was peaceful and vast; almost suffocatingly lonely. The horizon appears a lifetime away and as he stares at the line, everything begins to fade. 

Until he sees Phil trip.

He’s lungeing before he even realizes he’s moving. His legs and arms move faster than he can think. He blinks and his hand is wrapped around Phil’s wrist. He feels nothing but the freeze of death. No blood pumps through his father's veins. His arteries have been long out of use.

The illusion is broken.

But he can’t let go.

When Juanaflippa died, she was the first. No one knew how to react. Charlie and Mariana expressed the rage, the denial, and it was a spectacle of roleplay followed up by a wacky trial made for laughs. At this point, the rest of the server were still getting used to their eggs, so only Charlie and Mariana felt that twinge of pain from losing an egg. But when you remember Juanaflippa, you remember an explosion. A marvel.

Next Trump died. Maxo made you feel heartbroken with the image of a grieving father wallowing in misery and self destruction. But it was all still early, and most people didn't even notice. Trump died from neglect. Dan never saw him after adoption day. The server didn't come together like they did Juanaflippa. It was all very quiet. To this day, not many people in the community could tell you anything about Maxo's kid. About how hard his father bargained for his life between the gods. About how he failed. Trump was a whisper in the wind that only his father and those who watched him could bother to hear.

Then Tilín. At this point, the server was becoming more accustomed to the eggs. They were becoming attached. When Tilín died, it was depressing in every sense of the word. Quackity was somber, he barely spoke a word when he heard what had happened. A grave was built for Tilín by others with a heavy heart. There was no spectacle, and this time most people were involved in some way. Luzu came on to meet Tilín, and had to deal with that grief of being told his child was dead, something so heavy on him that he shut down completely. In life and in death, Tilín was the embodiment of sadness.

Bobby. The first death since Tilín. The first death in a long time. Everything had changed for the server. The eggs are their babies, their world. Everyone gathered to grieve Bobby, because they're a community now unlike ever before. But its different this time, they aren't there to witness a marvel from a distance, or grieve in sympathy. Bobby was a celebration. Music and dancing and memories. Toasts and cheering his name until the final moment. And having a final clap in his name after. Bobby was life. Because they're all scared now, terrified for their children. But they know what to expect this time. They're ready. They knew not to watch Jaiden and Roier grieve from the sidelines, they knew not to turn their backs on the two, and they would be sad but by god would they be happy as well. The server celebrated Roier and Jaiden, celebrated Bobby, and accepted his death with his name being shouted into the sky.

mishanks mafia au where shanks is the don of the gol family and and mihawk is a hitman hired by the government (it's a conspiracy!) to kill shanks.

when mihawk shows up, shanks puts up a great fight, and even tho shanks loses (he's on the ground with hawk's blade at his throat!), mihawk decides shanks is way funner than the government and doesn't kill him after all. mihawk intends for this to be the end, with exception for perhaps more fights in the future, but shanks has already fallen on love and starts trying his damndest to get mihawk to work for the gols.

mihawk always refuses, but when the government puts out a hit on mihawk because he broke contract, mihawk finds himself thoroughly protected by the gol family anyways. shanks, however, doesn't save mihawk fast enough to spare the hitman some torture so, in retaliation, shanks brings down the entire government and exposes the conspiracy while he's at it, with the finale being a grand announcement that mihawk is his, actually, back the fuck off and don't try this again.

by the end, mihawk still doesn't work for the gols, but if he marries into the family, well. "there's still a difference, red." (shanks whines about this daily.)

Two very fun things arrived in the last 24 hours.

The first is the Charing Cross Jacob Frye figure that I found for a bargain price on Vinted.

The second is Jacob's MtG* card which my wonderful Wife found for me.

*I don't play MtG. I just wanted Jacob's card. Next thing to do is find a frame so he came go up on my fandom** art wall.

sorry im coping with aus again oopsie daisy. anyway here's my take on a fantasy au

it all started with me rewatching the D&D movie and thinking "hm. what (broad) classes would the neighbors have?"

and after much thinking i came to the conclusion: Barnaby = Bard / Eddie = Paladin / Sally = Sorcerer / Julie = fighter / Frank = monk / Howdy = Artificer / Poppy = Healer / Wally = 'Wizard'

those seem fitting! BUT i don't like restrictions or rules so in this very light worldbuilding for a casual (strongly glaring at myself here) CASUAL au, it's only dnd-esque. not actually dnd yk yk

in my head, they're not technically puppets for this au. they're flesh and blood, they've got bones, etc. they're actual Creatures, though they still look like Them! Julie's still pink w/ candy-corn-horns! Frank is still a gray tube! Barnaby is a big blue dog! they're just... not puppets. it's the same for the other beings in this fantasy world - they all keep the style, but they're all flesh n' blood if that makes sense. a cartoony fantasy world

so they have their little found family adventuring group titled, of course, The Neighborhood. because when they were first forming, Wally went "oh! are we a neighborhood? i've always wanted neighbors!" and it Stuck. so they all lovingly refer to each other as neighbors, even though the closest they get to being actual neighbors is pitching their tents next to each other & staying at an Inn in neighboring rooms

like your classic group of adventurers, they're almost constantly on the move. the longest they stay in one place is a couple of months - the rest of the time they're wandering! they take quests, get roped into general Shenanigans, etc. they adventure! and get into a lot of battles of varying severity

so Barnaby is still kiiiiind of a bard? best i can describe him is jack-of-all-trades moral support! he provides battle music, keeps the mood light, and stands off to the side to offer quips and tips. he prefers not to fight, and only Gets Involved when the others need Backup. even then, he usually takes the role of defending his neighbors. he has a good eye for whether or not physical support is needed - he never needs to be asked when there's a legitimate need for him! unless he's thoroughly distracted from the goings-on. he does have magic, but it's more for show / defense-based

Eddie's still pretty classically a paladin. healing powers, armor, there to be on the front lines and Protect! the group's sword and shield! he technically serves a god but he forgot who <3 he just makes the occasional general offering and mumbles some vague prayer. he's super friendly! super helpful! super willing to dive into the line of fire! Will disregard his own safety without a second thought! his magic is pretty much restricted to healing, and it's weak healing at that (maybe because he can't properly serve his god...), so it's mostly good for quick mid-battle heals and little wounds. temporary fixes!

Sally has innate fire/light magic, and she's very showy with it! she puts Flair and Pizazz into all of her casts and is very dramatic on the battlefield - she manages to turn her fights into a performance. She tag-teams keeping the Neighborhood entertained with Barnaby. he handles the humor/lightheartedness, she handles the escapism/encouragement. she writes scripts & stories in her off-time, and often reads them (or spins a new one) after dinner. when they have weeks / month breaks in one spot, sometimes she'll recruit local thespians to create a play

Frank is all about that hand-to-hand combat babey! he wants to feel bones break under his fists! he wants those split knuckles! he very often starts fights, and even more often finishes them - what he lacks in raw power he makes up for in vicious tenacity. he just Keeps On Going! he seconds as the group's Knowledge Guy. while his hobby is studying insects, he also catalogues/studies monsters and enemies and terrain so that the Neighborhood can always be prepared. the only time he stays out of fights is when he's researching or note-taking. he tries to micromanage the battle from afar anyway

Julie is like... put a druid, a fighter, and a barbarian in a blender. she's got a big sword! she's got seemingly endless energy in battle! she can talk to plants, especially flowers! her flora magic is very minor, so it's not like she's making giant roots burst out of the ground and strangle people. but plants can give her information, and if she asks nicely and they feel like it, sometimes they'll help her out. in battle she's a force to be reckoned with! nothing will stop her and her sword! she's usually the second (closely following Frank, with Eddie hot on her heels) Neighbor charging into battle - but she's the one with the stellar war cry! & where Sally and Barnaby tend to the Neighborhood's emotional wellbeing & entertainment, Julie keeps things fresh with Physical Activities during their downtime!

Poppy is a powerful healer! she draws on an individual's energy (often taps into her own as well) to convert it into healing power. it's draining but it's damn good healing! she also takes the role of the Neighborhood's cook (the others still like to help, especially Frank who is essentially her sous-chef) and makes sure they're all healthy. she hangs back during battles, waiting to (and hoping that she doesn't have to) heal a wounded Neighbor. if one of them is badly hit, she forces herself to run into battle and drag them to safety before working on their injury. she has a tiny bit of illusion magic, which she'll cast from afar to assist her Neighbors. she tries not to use it outside of emergencies - it takes a lot of energy, which she tries to conserve just in case.

Howdy has Zero Magic! none! four hands and none of them are magical! however, he's a damn good inventor & a whiz at potion making. he can Use magical items like there's no tomorrow - he just can't wield it himself. he supplies the group with potions, helpful items, all sorts of goodies - given that they can trade for it with anything he'd accept in-canon. the only exception is when they're mid-battle - he hands stuff out when needed without haggle. he supplies the group with their cash when they're not getting it from looting/quests - he has a magic backpack that can unfold into a fully-stocked merchant stall! he sells at towns, on the road, anywhere he can! In battle he hangs back with Poppy and, yes, supplies items, but he also uses ranged attacks - magical weapons that cast for him, magic 'bombs', that sort of thing! but there's a little secret - he's the Neighborhood's secret weapon. he invented fantasy guns! four magic revolvers that, when the 'second safety' is turned off, multiply into a giant clusterfuck of guns (with ammo ranging from magic 'bullets' to essentially rocket launchers). unfortunately he can only use this setting once & for a limited time before the guns overload & have to be manually repaired. so he either uses them off of the first safety (i.e, they're 'normal'), or not at all. you know shit is Really hitting the fan when he joins a fight

and Wally! Wally Wally Wally... you may have noticed that i put his class 'wizard' in quotes. that's because he says he's a wizard, but he's not! he just says he's one due to the automatic stigma and fear of what he really is - a Warlock! his patron is Home, an eldritch horror that many would classify as a demon. they have a very special, codependent pact that neither of them can live without - Wally wears their 'seal' as a house-shaped pendant on a choker (necklace) hidden under his clothes. Home is extraordinarily powerful, but Wally barely taps into that power. he has a grimoire that Home inscribed with a bunch of sigils that convert into spells when drawn & then cast in the air. the only other powers he uses are seeing-in-the-dark, seeing-magic, and opening teleportation doors! Wally can't sleep, but he can doze - though he's never fully unaware of his surroundings (its kind of like how dolphins only sleep with one half of their brain). he still eats with his eyes, which both feeds him & acts as a form of providing daily energy to Home, since Home can't exactly consume souls every day. If Wally uses too much magic, he has to rest inside of Home's house-form, which is the only time he actually fully sleeps. no one knows about Home, or that Wally is lying about his wizard status.

Home is a lovecraftian being with three forms. the first is the lowest power level - a cute one-room house with Eyes! i.e: Home Classic! Wally's pendant unfolds into it, and it's the main way Wally and Home physically interact & communicate. the second is possession - if Wally explicitly allows it, Home can completely take over his body and kind of 'tuck him away' to have a nice deep nap while Home takes the reins (Home can technically force this, but it's very difficult and would not go over well w/ Wally - it would also be an unstable possession). the third is Home's true form - a massive shadowy eldritch monster made of writhing darkness and nightmares that no one in their right mind would look at, let alone fight. Home has very complicated feelings about Wally & the Neighborhood. they are also, quite literally, Wally's heart - which is part of their pact.

i have some scene ideas & little Plot Concepts (most notably the times the Neighborhood learns two Very Big Secrets about Wally, one of which being the warlock/Home reveal).

but yeah that's moooostly it. basic stuff yk, not very in depth! just fun things to feed my maladaptive daydreaming & escapism

When do you think Jack/Sam fell in love? Before they admitted feelings in season 4. What season and or episode do you think? 🥰

When did Jack and Sam fall in love?

Just kidding. Well mostly. There was obviously immediate attraction on both sides starting from that first meeting in the briefing room. That attraction turned into a crush which turned into some feelings which developed over time into love. However, I think both were in love long before they realized it. I also think this happens at different times for each of them.

Short answer:

Sam fell first. It was a gradual thing (see my "watching Sam fall in love one head duck and smile at a time" gif sets) so it's hard to pick an exact episode. Definitely by Out of Mind/Into the Fire but she didn’t realized it/admitted it to herself until A Hundred Days.

Jack fell harder and faster but refused to realize it because he thought Sam was unobtainable and deserved better. I'd say he started having feelings more than a crush around Jolinar and finally realized he loved her sometime after POV (maybe around Netu).

Ok now the longer (much longer) answer below the cut!

Jack was a goner even if he didn’t know it from the moment Sam challenged him to an arm wrestle. He developed a crush pretty quickly and definitely had thoughts about things…

Cue the adorable flirting and looks. Jack likes to make Sam smile and their unspoken communication is a love language in and of itself. There are too many instances to point out but you can check out my gif sets for some examples.

I’d say his crush starts to develop into actual feelings probably around the time of Jolinar. He stops calling her “Sam” after Serpent’s Song to try and create some sort of emotional distance. We all know how that didn’t work and “Carter” became just as much a term of endearment, but it at least provided the illusion of a purely professional relationship.

He’s content with the small stolen moments because he thinks she’s unobtainable and frankly deserves better. She’s a young, brilliant, gorgeous badass while he’s just...Jack.

I think this changes after POV. Yes, he still thinks she’s way out of his league, but this is the second alternate reality they’ve encountered where they’ve ended up together and not just together but engaged/married. Those other Jacks apparently did something right that convinced their Sams to say yes and they couldn’t have been too much different than him, could they? He allows himself to dwell in the possibility, but he still questions if this Sam—his Sam—could feel the same way.

They go to hell and back to save Dad and then comes A Hundred Days. I hate that it’s never addressed on screen, but I like to believe that somewhere between Shades of Grey and Crystal Skull, Jack gets the full picture of the lengths Sam went to when he was stranded. How could he not admit to himself that he loves this woman who literally defied the laws of physics to save him. And maybe, just maybe, she feels the same way—which brings us to Nemesis and the first invitation to go fishing.

Ok let’s take a step back a moment and get caught up with Sam.

She also develops a crush early on as she learns that there’s more to Jack under the rough exterior. You know that she’s read his file and no doubt she had some preconceptions evident by the way she came guns a blazing during the first briefing. However, the more she's around him, the more she realizes that he is as gentle with what/who he cares about as he is dangerous to those who dare threaten what he cares about. He loves and protects with the same fierceness.

Also c’mon how can you not fall in love with a man who’s as good with kids and dogs as Jack.

I do think Sam fell first but he’s still her CO and it’s not like she can do anything about it, so she avoids facing it. I can’t pinpoint down a specific episode because I think it was definitely a gradual thing which made it easier to bury. But in my opinion, she’s definitely in love by Out of Mind/Into the Fire. (Even if she wasn’t defying orders, she goes straight to find him even though as far as she knows he’s a Goa’uld!) She wouldn’t admit it to herself at this point and maybe didn’t even realize it. Regardless, there’s no running away from it in A Hundred Days.

She’s understandably hurt at the end of that episode and then of course comes Shades of Grey. Sam’s face when Jack tells her that he hasn’t been acting like himself since he met her…and then later he elects to go back to the planet she just spent every waking moment for 3+ months trying to bring him home from…🥺. Even though she knows he was playing a role, I can only imagine that a part of her is left to wonder how much of it might be true.

Ok that brings us back to Nemesis. By this point, both have realized that they love the other person. Jack thinks Sam might feel the same way. They’ve mostly patched things up post-Shades of Grey (enough to work together at least), but Sam still has some doubts.

Now imagine Jack trying to work up the nerve to ask her to come to his cabin with him. He stops to check on Daniel in the infirmary first and throws out the idea—maybe she’ll go if Daniel goes. When it’s obvious Daniel better listen to the Doc, he heads out. Entering the elevator, his finger hovers over the buttons until finally he pushes “19” and finds himself shielding his eyes from the sparks as he enters her lab.

Invitation is offered. However, she doesn’t catch on. Gah why am I so bad at this? he thinks.

She hesitates. He quickly brushes it off trying to save face. Maybe he read too much into it. Must. Escape. Now.

Jack is actually really kind of bummed. If you look closely when he’s leaving her lab, he has this little quirk with his mouth thinking “well that didn’t go as planned.” Sam was genuinely surprised. She kicks herself for hesitating and making him think she’s completely opposed to the idea so she runs after him.

You can feel the emotions in their looks in the hallway. He makes one final attempt. She really wants to say yes but just can’t seem to take the final step. Then he gets beamed away, they save the world, and now fast forward to Small Victories.

Ok…now SOMETHING happened on P4X-234. How much exactly idk but something happened on that planet and there’s a very noticeable shift. Just look at how comfortable and flirty they are compared to the scene in Nemesis.

No hesitancy from Sam. No disappointment from Jack. No feelings of potential regret or uncertainty. Just flirty looks and smiles.

At the very least, they’ve acknowledged that they like each other more than they’re supposed to. They’ve just saved the world for like the third time, but who’s counting—Teal’c that’s who—and now have to wait out a return home. Eventually, Jack realizes that it may not be Minnesota, but he kind of got his vacation with Sam where there are no doohickeys or end of the world crises to distract her. It’s just them and their oh-so-knowing observant Jaffa friend who occasionally makes himself scarce.

It’s nice and peaceful on the planet where they can just enjoy each other’s company away from the reminders of the war they’re fighting. They’re surprised that it comes easy and natural. At some point they have a conversation of sorts about how one day when the world doesn’t need saving from bugs and snakes, that maybe life could look a lot like this. They go home with the hope and promise of some day in their hearts and for now that is enough.

Then Anise arrives with those damn armbands and we have the point of no return. They're faced with fact that some day may never come. I know D&C is where we get as close to a verbal love confession from Jack, but if you ask me—which you sort of did—they had already confessed their love to each other on opposite sides of that force field. For two people whose non-verbal communication means everything, those looks say everything.

How Sam ever decided to listen to her concussed self that this man doesn’t have feelings for her is beyond me but that’s a rant for another day.

This turned out a lot longer than I intended, but I just love talking about these two. Thanks for the ask! 😊

The answer to am I okay after the mashups is actually usually yes cause I get to have them immortalized as an mp3 for my listening needs, but occasionally I'm not, like in the case of her replacing most of Forever and Always on piano with Maroon - she really was playing my favorite song live and then was like "I'm gonna play a song I've played live 3 times already this tour, that's also gonna be in the disney plus version of the eras tour movie, instead of just playing Forever and Always (Piano Version)"
