I love the handheld mic and how it is used to connect with the rest of the family in different ways and tbh even the audience. the more threatening tone is just so complex and fun to watch because jack smashes it

the difference between diana forgetting natalie and forgetting gabe will forever haunt me

the way you can hear Gabe (Jack) breathing a little here and there during the beginning of Aftershocks, but then after Diana talks to Henry and says he reminds her of someone when Gabe starts to sing again the breaths are more noticeable. They're louder, deeper, and even shorter not just breathing, but instead gasping for breath in those moments

before i get to the Main Point i wanna discuss chils tendency to spiral into his thoughts

like, sure, yeah, he's a reasonable guy. real logical-- but he tends to rush through so many possibilities and in this scene even berates himself for his tiny mistake. every thought in this scene goes so fast to me here, just "snap snap snap, call for help, no thatll attract too much attention- wait is there a switch? crap its too far away- nevermind lets just wait for marcille- but can i trust her with that?? god im so stupid, am i just gonna be trapped here until morning???" and it takes a moment for him to stabilise and snap out of it

like... he even has a little pep talk about it

i guess you could take this as him merely being a quick thinker? but i highly doubt it -- look at this fucking guy.

anyways. hes always got to be eased out of it one way or another, whether that be complainerism (self-explanatory), strategising with another person (that way all the insecure thoughts get pushed to the back in favour of working together), reassuring himself (discussed above) or...

you. could.

distract him.

place a brick wall in front of that zooming train of thought and watch it crash and burn :)

he doesnt even respond in that first pic, by the way. in fact, he doesnt say anything for another 3 (and a bit) pages, and by then the topic has been safely switched (granted those three pages are just marcille and laios making the familiars, but i feel it still stands that there was no response at all, not even visually)

secondly, in that other instance -- see how his eyes go wide as saucers when contact is made? and how they turn into pinpricks once he looks back**? god. and. like.

MASSIVE NEXT TO NORMAL SPOILERS UNDER THE READ MORE!!!!

In the prelude when Diana's listing all the ways Gabe might've died, they're all so unlikely. Gabe even points it out and says, 'because that happens!'.

'Freak september ice storm with no warning', even the line itself seems to be saying, 'Diana's fear is irrational!'.

'There's a gang war, there's a bird flu.' And those are things Gabe would've died to this night? That stuff seems like something Diana would have to have known in advance.

'Trains collide' is the most normal one, and even then its not very likely.

Now this could just be Diana being overprotective of her little baby boy and worrying about Gabe too much, none of these things are likely...

or it could be because the way the real Gabe died seems so real. An intestinal obstruction. Not a flashy ice storm, or something as obvious as trains colliding.

Something else I find of note is that with all of these, Gabe (very likely) wouldn't be the only one to die. It wouldn't just be a horrible thing that happened to Diana, it wouldn't be something that left her stranded on a desert island (with the only other inhabitant telling himself he's already escaped).

Diana would've known if it was an ice storm, but she couldn't have done anything to stop that. Maybe, somewhere deep down, Diana thought it was her fault.

She can't be expected to stop a bird flu or a gang war, but with an intestinal obstruction there would've been signs. Because there had to have been something she missed, right? There had to have been a way to stop it, one smoking gun that could save the life of her child.

Born October 5th, 1921, in Nebraska

Died April 8th, 1988 (age 66), in Martinez, California

Joe Ramirez enlisted in September 1942 (age 20) in San Francisco, CA, and he trained with Easy Company at Toccoa. Holding the rank of Private, he served in Normandy, Holland, and Bastogne. He was hospitalized in January 1945, and discharged in July 1945. After the war, he was married for many years, and had children and grandchildren. When he passed away he was buried with his wife, who had passed away 11 years earlier. Further information about him is scarce, but the brief character profile in the Band of Brothers series bible describes him as Mexican-American, and his personality as "sensitive and nervous."

Thinking a lot about how Simon himself is, in essence, a walking ship of Theseus. At what point between Simon and Ice King did he become a different person? The crown changed him, sure, but it mostly just scrambled what was already there in his brain. And we know that even after becoming “himself” again, he’s been fundamentally altered by the experience. Ice King is still with him, even if the crown isn’t.
