It’s one of my favorite days, National Girls & Women in Sports Day! Sports has been one of the few constant things in my life. I tried every sport as a kid, chose a second major because it could help me work in sports, and was a fan through it all. Now I get to work in sports and couldn’t be more grateful for everything sports has given me in life. It’s given me joy, amazing friends, a sisterhood I couldn’t imagine my life without, and a way to connect with the people I care about most. Sports simply has changed my life. To the women on the sidelines, in the press box, in the ticket office, in the front office, and everywhere else, you are incredible. We belong here no matter what anyone else says. Keep dreaming, because shooting for the moon still lands you along the stars 🌕✨ #ngwsd2023 #ngwsd #leadherforward #womeninsports #collegeathletics https://www.instagram.com/p/CoIWfjVuz5K/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

About National Girls & Women in Sports Day
NGWSD began in 1987 as a special day to unite premiere organizations and elite female athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports. The event has since evolved to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, the positive influence of sports participation, and the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports. There are many ways sports push girls and women to achieve excellence and realize their boundless potential.
Ladies if your in the area spread the word to families with girls

Here’s to the strong and independent women in sports! I have been lucky to improve and challenge myself in this industry for the past 8 years but I could not have done it without the guide from others. Cheers to many more years 🖤

National Girls and Women in Sports Day
I know there are an abundance of “national” days now but this is one I love to talk about and celebrate because it’s super important.
If I would’ve planned better I would’ve had the full blog post about the importance of women in male sports which @laurasroyalblog was been so graciously helping me with but that’ll be up next week.
Anyway, six years ago i changed my major from fashion merchandising to journalism with a focus in sports because I realized how much I loved writing and talking about baseball and for the longest time it felt like I didn’t belong there.
I think a large part of that is because when you’re a female that is a fan of male sports, there are the gatekeeper fans that feel you have to prove you deserve to be a fan. Some men will legit test you.
What I love about this day is that I hope it encourages young girls that not only can they play the same sports as boys but they can talk about it with just as much and even more knowledge than them. They can cover sports. The can be on the sidelines and in the press box. They can coach!
And they have every right to be apart of men’s sports as they do women’s sports and they deserve to have a voice in sports.
