What an intriguingly shaped flat. Not a single normal shaped room in here.
Tumblr media
Just a wedge-shaped building ig
Tumblr media
Nice place tho!
Tumblr media
I assume this curve is due to the stairwell or something? Interesting feature but nightmare for furniture
Genuinely nice place if you are into funky shaped rooms, would have to say that the biggest downside is that it's on Great Junctions Street and I would NOT recommend that as a place to live lmao

Quarterfinals - Poll 3 of 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Simon & Marcy:
1,000 years in the past, a young Marceline navigates the wasteland with her guardian, Simon Petrikov.
Varmints:
Bubblegum turns to Marceline’s help when something threatens the citizens of her homestead.
propaganda under the cut
Simon & Marcy:
Have not stopped thinking about it ever Episode that forever altered my brain. An absolute masterpiece
Thanks to this episode I cry whenever I hear the Cheers theme song
watches simon and marcy. cries for eleven minutes straight. watches it again and cries the whole time again really though, it’s great- on a technical level, it paces itself well and uses the time given it the best that it can. sets up the framing device without spending too long on it, sets up all the First Act stuff that will become important in the Second Act neatly and at the right time without rushing or focusing on it too much. and as for the story. it is without serious flaw. an earnest, unflinching glimpse of the post-apocalyptic world, our first time seeing the dynamic between little marceline and the person who basically raised her - not to mention our first time seeing the man the ice king used to be on a personal level. it’s beautiful and sweet and clever and heartbreaking.
Varmints:
for obvious reasons. But also this is such a big episode for Bonnie. Coming to terms with the fact that she needs to rest and that her workaholism has hurt her and others… It’s good!!!
Divorced couple talk about why they didn't work out the ep. But On a Serious Note: it's such a satisfying ep both wrt Peebles' individual chara development and their relationship arc. Up to that point, PB had been really close-minded and self-assured to the point of arrogance. I love that we get to see her so vulnerable with that of being exiled, still struggling with her controlling tendencies, but finally willing to admit her faults humbly. Also, Bubbline. But it was Real satisfying to have such a nice bone thrown our way, with them finally talking about why things didn't work between them. THE GRAFITTI. Seeing how much both of them have grown to the point they can be more honest and intentional about giving each other another go. Jsut so many things.
In addition to the obvious Bubbline reconciliation (when this episode aired I quite literally screamed out loud), it's a wonderful continuation of Bonnie's arc in season 6. Her finally reaching her breaking point and being vulnerable, allowing herself to be comforted. It's truly, truly wonderful.

Go With Me Review
“Go With Me” manages to give more insight into multiple different character dynamics in the span of 11 minutes. Finn and Bubblegum, Jake and Marceline, Finn and Marceline, and Marcy and PB have series defining moments for their relationships, with even some super insightful Finn and Jake interaction sprinkled in. Not even the 90-minute Stakes miniseries manages to accomplish that.
Despite Finn’s puppy love for Princess Bubblegum, Finn does not understand romance nor is ready for it. Despite this, Jake pushes Finn to bring a date to couple’s movie night. Jake and Marceline encourage Finn to pursue someone who is too old for him, albeit for different reasons. Jake has a naive view of romance, and has no frame of reference for how to help a (barely) teen human boy deal with his feelings. He views Finn as someone capable of having true romantic feelings, which Finn clearly isn’t yet. Finn immediately shoots down PB’s description of the night as “romantic”. PB declines for whistling practice. I don’t think this was just an excuse to turn down Finn. Bubblegum finds Finn's crush on her cute and harmless in the first two seasons. I think she’d be willing to humor him by attending, not yet knowing the effect that kind of behavior has on Finn. Jake gives more terrible advice, pushing Finn to keep pursuing PB.
Marcy’s introduction into this episode is great, with the slow split screen reveal of her presence. It’s also the first of many times we see her hiding inside the Treehouse. Jake reveals that he has gotten over his fear of vampires. While Marceline can still easily spook him, it's nice that Jake has finally come around to Marcy like Finn did in “Henchman”. I love how Finn and Jake both get separate mini-arcs throughout a few episodes before they each accept Marceline as a friend. Marceline not being able to go out in the sun (before they got lazy and just started photoshopping sunscreen bottles into title cards) is already enough of a barrier to work her into plots, we don’t need Jake’s fear as another one. They had a funny workaround in “It Came From the Nightosphere”, but I’m glad they retired it. I love how they still address this development. Most shows would have just given up on the running gag without an explanation to make writing episodes easier.
In order to make Peebles jealous, Finn and Marcy pretend to have a great banter session outside Bubblegum’s window. This leads to our first ever interaction between Princess Bubblegum and Marceline, the second most iconic character duo in the series, and one of the most famous character dynamics in cartoon history. While it takes 103 episodes for Marceline to interact with Ice King, and 170 for Lumpy Space Princess, Marcy gets to interact with a member of the main cast that isn’t Finn and Jake in season two! Even without the context from future episodes, this scene gives a lot of clues to their relationship. There is clear tension between them. It is obvious they have a history, with Marceline calling PB by her first name, something we haven’t even seen Finn do up to this point. It’s satisfying seeing how well this scene works with information provided a decade later in “Obsidian”. Marceline likes to tease PB, and Bubblegum puts up a tough exterior to act like she doesn’t care about Marcy, like she did while Marcy first sang “Woke Up” in the Glass Kingdom. It’s obvious they’ve had multiple interactions similar to this over the hundreds of years since their break up. Finn’s newfound friendship with Marceline would only force these kinds of interactions to become more frequent. This is probably the most drastic example of an episode being impacted by a later installment in the series. And oh yeah, Princess Bubblegum’s first name is Bonnibel! I love how well her first name flows with Bubblegum. It’s nice having a shorter and easier name for her than “Princess Bubblegum” that isn’t just “PB”. I love getting pieces of character biography like names and ages dropped so casually.
Marceline just wants to get back at her ex as well as have fun messing with her impressionable friend like usual. Marceline literally says her reason for wanting to help is that “it'll be funny”. Of course Marcy knows that wrestling and wolves would do nothing but upset PB. She plays these pranks at the expense of Finn, but Marceline knows to not take Finn’s crush seriously in the first place. Her “advice” is as bad as Jake’s but she isn’t stupid like Jake.
In the process of getting wolves for Marceline’s next plan, we see how much more compatible Finn is with Marcy than PB. They’re both fun, wild animals. Bubblegum reacts appropriately to Finn putting wolves in her room. It's sad seeing her ban Finn from the kingdom. She understands she is dealing with a child and that Finn has a good heart, so she keeps the door open for when Finn starts behaving better. She knows that Finn will come around and it feels more like a parent or teacher disciplining a misbehaving child. I’m sure Bubblegum realized that this was all Marcy’s doing soon enough anyway. On the other hand, the Finn Marceline pairing is a much more fun and refreshing dynamic when compared to PB and Finn. This is purposefully highlighted and something Finn comes to realize. After his latest failure, Marcy tells Finn to forget about Bonnie. I get the feeling that another motivation for Marceline was to sabotage Finn so he wouldn’t keep dealing with the heartache she knows comes with PB.
All of this sets up a fake out that the series would turn to start pushing Finn and Marceline as a romantic pairing. Finn goes to ask Marcy out to the movies instead. Someone getting this close to Marceline makes her uncomfortable. Her reaction is to try to scare Finn away, a tactic she internalized from when she thought she scared her mother away and reinforced in the downfall of her relationship with Princess Bubblegum. Marceline misinterprets Finn’s invitation as a romantic gesture. Marceline and Jake egging Finn on throughout the episode caused this. He is only barely 13, he isn’t ready for that! I like Jake rightfully feeling embarrassed for his actions. Marcy realizes Finn’s intentions and happily goes with Finn as friends. She still can’t give up messing with Finn, with the great “no tongue” comment that went right over his head. I’m very happy the series didn’t go for a Finn, PB, Marceline love triangle. It’s nice for Finn to have a female friend without any baggage. The episode teased Finnceline for the only time in the series, and then immediately shot it down forever. Well, forget about “Bad Little Boy”. I’ll discuss that episode’s implications when we get to it.
Finn and Marceline ditch movie night when confronted with the onslaught of make outs. They are truly perfect friends. The episode ends on wolves tearing apart the screen after a couple proclaims that nothing will ever tear them apart. There is a joke in Spongebob that is identical to this, with Plankton instead of the wolves. There is absolutely no way that it’s a coincidence.
“Go With Me” is the third and sadly last Finn and Marceline duo episode. While I think “It Came From the Nightosphere” is the overall better episode, I think this is the best showcase of their relationship in the series. It's great seeing these character dynamics be explored in a more sitcom-y episode.
Grade: A

Second part of my AT Roleswap AUs, after the Bonnieverse, it’s the Marcyverse! Finn-Marceline IK-Peebles roleswap!
Details under the cut:
Marcy Abadeer: The young half-human daughter of the Lord of the Nightosphere. Marceline "Marcy" Abadeer ended up stranded in Ooo. The idea of being a “hero” started as a goof, something she thought would annoy off her dad if he heard about it. But she ended up having to commit to it after the nerdy wizard she rescued turned out to be the King of the Ice Kingdom - who told basically everyone that there’s a new hero in town and is also generally like really nice to her. And eventually she became genuinely invented in helping people. Generally a very laid back person with a bit of a jerk streak she grows out of, prefers to use axes in battle. Coming back to the Nightosphere starts as her first priority, but it keeps shifting up and down as a priority depending on her current emotional state - eventually, when faced with the choice to leave Ooo forever, she decides to stay.
Hambo the Doll: Marcy’s favorite childhood toy, granted freaky magic powers (which basically match with Marceline's powers in the mainverse) and sapience by the dark magics of the Nightosphere to give Marcy a protector and companion. Her only real friend before coming to Ooo. A bit of a nervous stick-in-the-mud to serve as a foil to Marcy’s chill, rebellious streak. And seeing how he is literally a mess of demonic energy dressed in the body of an adorable doll, he can be kinda Evil at times. But he is a good, loyal friend to Marceline.
King Simon of the Ice Kingdom: Immortal founder and ruler of the Ice Kingdom, a winter wonderland of sapient penguins and friendly ice monsters. King Simon is an intelligent, fatherly man with a talent with both magic and science. Despite his long life and many experiences, he has not lost his optimistic and idealized view of the world. However, he is not handling the grief of losing his wife, Queen Betty, very well at all. Nor does he have much success in the dating scene. Sometimes those antics are just goofy and embarrassing in a middle-aged-single-dad sort of way. Sometimes the combination of bad luck, social awkwardness and the fact that most potential romantic interests in Simon’s age group are terrifying ancient monsters means his bad dates can snowball into actual threats to himself or even the whole Ice Kingdom - necessitating a rescue from Marcy or some other hero.
Bubblegum Princess: A semi-solid mass of sapient gum-blob who rules over a vast sugary wasteland known as the Candy Kingdom. Once a pre-War human scientist, Bonnibel Rosazucker was infected by a mysterious gum-blob creature and was slowly transformed into a candy monster. Now she is a sugary mad scientist interested mostly creating various freaky candy monsters, Bubblegum Princess has been also known to kidnap wizards in order to dissect them in her mad experiments (for SCIENCE and also out of a powerful obsessive hatred for Wizards in general) with King Simon being an especially favorite target (he secretly thinks she's kinda attractive in a weird way, although he'd never admit to that sober.)
Finn the Cyborg Lord: The once-human son of Dr. Minerva Martens, an old colleague of Bonnibel Rosazucker. Finn was put in her care after his mother’s apparent death - only surviving the post-Mushroom War landscape thanks to Bonnibel's cybernetic modifications. After parting ways with her, he tried to make a name for himself as a hero of the wasteland - but as the years went by, he became more and more jaded with heroism. He became known as a great warrior - but not necessarily the most principled one. In the Ice Kingdom, he is mostly known as the bothersome prankster King Simon is always demanding will get off his lawn. Marcy being around and doing good kinda gave him a new, more optimistic lease on life and he’s been getting back to adventuring and actual heroics. After all the various cybernetic mods Bonnibel and his overprotective A.I mom and various others gave him so he could survive a 1000 years in Ooo, basically the only human organic part oh him is (most of) his brain

Lewisohn vs. Sheff: The Rest of 'Em (Pt. 2 of 2)
At last, the highly-anticipated (by me) conclusion to my comparison of "quotes" from Mark Lewisohn's Tune In against their source, David Sheff's 1980 Playboy interview of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. There will be more Lewi-sins after this, but Sheff will have some well-earned rest.
For discussion of alterations to citations 10-9 and 36-16, click here. For 11-31, click here. For the Rest of 'Em (pt. 1), click here. For further documentation and dissection of Lewis-sins, check out @mythserene's excellent posts on the matter.
Sheff 2000 p.132 vs Tune In 21-3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm highlighting this one because it is very funny that Lewisohn made up a little spiel about how much John loves Paris with the tiniest soupçon of an actual quote somewhere in the mix. Between the source and Tune In, there are three vague similarities: Paris is mentioned, holding/kissing are mentioned, and kissing under something is mentioned--the something isn't consistent between the two.
Sheff 2000 p.159 vs. Tune In 16-8
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lots of small errors here that I could chalk up to transcriptional differences, and then a big fat made up phrase that Lewisohn decided to insert at the end. Nice!
Sheff 2000 p.23 vs Tune In 16-15
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of these phrases were said by John Lennon, but not in this order. “They became like legends” is Lewisohn’s invention; John only says they built out of proportion. It’s not the biggest change I’ve found, but look at what it does to the tone: in the original context of the quote, John is speaking (rather negatively) about how stories about the Lost Weekend were blown out of proportion, much in the way stories from the Beatles’ drunken Hamburg days were. He’s certainly not calling them legendary, but wouldn’t it be much cooler if he did???
Sheff 2000 p.168 vs Tune In 28-41
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There isn’t much wrong here: highlighted in yellow, we have the quoted bit, which only differs in Tune In due to the addition of the word “track”. The reason I bring this up is because it’s a textbook Lewisohn Frankenquote: we’ve got the yellow bit, taken from the 1980 Playboy interview, and we’ve got the green bit, taken from a 1971 interview conducted by Mike Hennessey (I haven’t checked the fidelity of the quote vs. the Hennessey source as of yet). This one strikes me because it’s completely unnecessary. John says something in the Playboy interview (also highlighted in green) with the same meaning as what Lewisohn pulled out of the Hennessey interview.
Sheff 2000 p.168 vs Tune In 30-2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, we see Lewisohn swapping a couple of phrases around. The meaning is unchanged. Interestingly enough, in the footnote, Lewisohn mentions that a transcription error turned “pink eiderdown” into “pink eyelet” in the printed version. My printed version simply says “pink coverlet.” We’ve seen Lewisohn invent “corrections” in the form of brackets inserted into unchanged quotes (or quotes he invented) before; is it possible he found an error in the transcript and invented his own correction with “eiderdown”? I can’t say it’s outside the realm of possibility.
Sheff 2000 p.165 vs Tune In 33-18
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The quote here appears in the endnote itself rather than the body of the text in Tune In, and as you can see, it’s a bit mangled. Lewisohn took the first part of the sentence from the very top of the page, and after a considerable Lennon ramble, found the second part of the sentence he wanted to create. He then changed many of the words and added [George] in brackets, despite “George” being in the original sentence. Oh, Mark.
And that’s it for the 1980 Sheff interview! Next up: a brief examination of the Andy Peebles interview. Hurrah!

I've really enjoyed 'Read the Beatles', a collection of essays, interviews, snippets and such of people writing about Beatles through the years. I've posted a few bits from it recently. It's a really nice mix, including quite a few things that were published at the time, which I find more interesting in a lot of ways than people in the 2000s looking back.
But. Now I've reached the section of the book where she collects together some bits about each Beatle individually.
John:
An excerpt from Ray Coleman about John's early life
A bit from Gimme Some Truth, the John Lennon FBI files
A bit from the David Sheff Playboy interview
A bit from the Last Lennon Tapes by Andy Peebles
An obituaryish essay from Simon Frith about Lennon's meaningfuness and genius
A poem from Adrian Henri
An excerpt from Skywriting by Word of Mouth about John being happy being a house husband.
Absolutely lovely. I think that's a really nice collection.
Paul:
A 1982 interview where he talks about John's death
Here Today - a song he wrote about John Lennon
An interview from 2004 called 'McCartney: My Life in the Shadow of the Beatles'
Look at that. Three pieces, less than half of John's. And none of them are even about him. They're all about John. Nothing about his early life, because John wasn't in it. Nothing about Wings because John wasn't in it. Nothing about anything. It's appalling. And yes, I'm SURE it was harder to find things written about Paul than it was about John, especially in 2006. But all the same. (And for people who have come to Beatles more recently and think it's weird that Paul fans have such a bee in their bonnet about stuff like this, it's because of stuff like this! You only see articles now about Paul McCartney's legacy because Paul fans had a bee in their bonnet for a really long time.)
I've not read George and Ringo's sections yet so I can only take them from the contents page. Under the cut:
George:
A section from 'Before He Was Fab: George Harrison's first American Visit'
An excerpt from 'Mystical One: George Harrison' about the attack at Friar Park
An article called: The Unsung Beatle: George Harrison's Behind the Scenes Contributions to the World's Greatest Band
An obituary titled: George Harrison: World-Music Catalyst
Ringo:
An article from 1965 about interviewing Ringo on the set of Help (titled: Domesticated Beatle)
An excerpt from 'The Beatles As Musicians' looking at Ringo's skills as a drummer.
There's lots missing from both of them, I'd say. And yes it's poor that Ringo only has two pieces, but I do notice that they're both ABOUT HIM. And the same with George.
I'm so peeved.
(Saying all of that though, just reading those lists shows you how much stuff there is in this book. Added together these only make up a tiny portion of the whole thing, so it is a great book that I've really appreciated. It's just I might print out and paste in a few bits about Paul's early life, about him writing a symphony, about Wings, about his melody, about his legacy. Something like that.)

3 lol. eventually i'll post more. probably. maybe
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
100,989 (not counting the original "draft" of wicked turns because a lot of that got reused in the current version)
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
girl (gender neutral) i don't even have 5 fics total... top kudos though is wicked turns :')
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
haven't finished it yet but it's going to be drowning lessons :)
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
also have not finished it but everyone in how to win friends will come out SO happy and well-adjusted. it's at a good little stopping point for now and i might skip into act 2 for the next chapter/s... idk it doesn't really have a plot it's just me giving myself like. writer aftercare from the stuff in drowning lessons or wicked turns fjgdfjjfdgj
7. Do you write crossovers?
not anymore but if you know the ancient piri lore of when i did tumblr rp......... the harley quinn/norman bates "it started out as a joke and now we're really invested" ship still makes me go insane from time to time...... i have a type and it is unhinged men who fall for somehow even more unhinged women
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
yeah so i have. the loose outline of a peebs fic. and it has been rolling around in my brain for years and years and years. but in order to truly do it justice i feel like it would be a full-on multi-issue comic series and the last time i tried making a graphic novel-style work (shoutout to princess huntress, your worldbuilding lives on but i'll never finish you) i got maybe 8/100+ pages done and then spiraled into art burnout for like 4 years
15. What are your writing strengths?
i like to think i am good at writing horror and gore teehee <3
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
sex scenes...... i don't like writing it, i don't like publishing it, i am ehhhh about reading it, but again, damn if it ain't relevant to the storyline
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
don't trust google translate. just use <> or whatever if you don't know the language.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
batman (stares wistfully out the window for 10 hours)
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
i REALLY want to write a skyrim long-ish fic. i have so many thoughts on it. there would be two LDBs (amma and sigg). both of them are cursed by daedra but in wildly different directions
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
wicked turns :)

Hello there, dear Ri!
(i hope you don't mind me calling you like that)
I have another request, this time is about prompts of the Penguins, with a s/o who's a big nerd for birds (Dinosaurs included), and is kinda allways infodumpting them.
And, as a little fun thing, this s/o would allways gift them nice looking peebles, as penguins do that as a love language hehe
Well, that would be it! Have a nice day/night!
Heyo!! Thanks so much for the ask and I don't mind at all!
I will say, I did a similar list of headcanons here kinda dealing with paleontology in general with the Penguins! If you want something else or different feel free to let me know! You've always got cute ideas 💚

Take Her Back
This episode is maybe the funniest of the entire mini-series, while still being incredibly touching at points. The interactions between PB and Marcy are tender, there's a funny miscommunication bit, someone yells pigs at a door until it opens. Great episode.
Varmints:

Hey bugs! Book an on here and can I just say that Star Trek fic….Amazing!!! Thank you so much!!! It was so cuteeee! I really love how you made pebbles, he’s just the right amount of mischievous and adorable! And I love that he got bones! Him and Spock are definitely my favorites, I love whenever they get to just be silly and giggly. That really made my day, can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us! Have a great day, thanks again!
Hi I’m so sorry!! Fell off the face of the earth again. This is so KIND AHHH!!! I’m glad you enjoyed it!! I didn’t realize how much I missed writing for Star Trek until I came back to it. This was a trope I’d always wanted to write too so it felt nice to explore how I’d wanna do that. Peebles came to me in like a 3AM thought and normally I discard those but I just knew I had to keep him.
I absolutely adored this prompt. Thank you for sending it!!

TOP FIVE AT EPISODES (here's mine in no particular order )
Varmints cause badass Peebles and that fashion 😍
Chamber of Frozen Blades cause Ninjas!
Simon & Marcy because It's the episode that got me hooked on the lore and the show
Card Wars cause it spawned a pretty fun mobile game
What Was Missing because the gang together warms my heart (They only hang together for less then 10 episodes ☹)
Nice list!
- Varmints (incredible character-driven episode that displays how Marcy and peebs are such different people but work well together and have worked well together in the past. Explores both their insecurities and PB finally lets herself be vulnerable)
- Simon and Marcy (absolutely heartbreaking. I’m a sucker for the dad-character-adopts-surrrogate-child trope and their dynamic is so great. Also it’s the post apocalypse. I love the last of us. This was a no brainer)
- Islands Part 3: Mysterious Island (I just really really like this one. And islands as a whole. I just think that the worldbuilding and lore jam packed into those episodes are so cool. I like Stakes more but this episode hit all the right spots)
- Three Buckets (I love Finn and Fern and their complex little “I’m you” “no you’re not” “you don’t understand” dynamic with all my heart)
- What was Missing (I really couldn’t pick a last one, there are so many I absolutely love and so many I cannot remember atm that I will be infuriated that I didn’t list. But this episode is genuinely a core memory for me so this one it is. Shoutout to Stakes, that episode where IK’s crown broke, Ketchup, The Hall of Egress, and all the pb backstory episodes)

The nice thing at least is that there's no potential in me. I could whine about how I lack money, but even with that I wouldn't have done anything great. I whine about how small my mind is and if it were bigger, nothing would've changed, I would have still done nothing. There's no loss in my absence, the world will not change, I'm barely a flower, nor I'm a weed: the first would bring pleasure with its own beauty and be nutrient for other creatures; weed are invasive, destructive, everywhere. I'm not even there... I'm a peeble, in a lake of Peebles, just waiting to be corroded away
