its crazy that a lot of what we call 'video essays' these days are basically low budget documentaries on increasingly weird and niche topics. no network approval no tv budget just one guy with maybe a hired editor/writer and a couple of friends willing to read voice lines. and then they put it on youtube like its no big deal. insane.

oh travis. i feel so so bad for travis always and i think he's often so egregiously mischaracterised by the fandom. romantic or not, travis' relationship to natalie is pretty key to both their characters, so it was disappointing how little they talked in s3. even if part of their dynamic *is* the inability to talk to one another, something that started in the wilderness when travis first runs away, and carries on into their adulthood, urresolved. and that lack of verbal confrontation is in tension with the things they're willing to do for each other (such as the suicide pact, faking javi's death, guarding the ben pen, etc.). i wish there was more time given to that. i don't dislike the ship but i much prefer them as platonic - partially because i think the jucier nat romantic dynamics lie with lottie and misty. i also like the idea of nat having an incredibly close non-romantic relationship to a guy she used to date. it makes my aroacespec heart happy, sue me! i like travkilah, i think they're cute. but nia spoke in an interview about how she sees akilah as a surrogate sibling for travis after javi died, and thematically, i like that dynamic slightly more.
