The sun was just starting to peak through the trees when Nate heard the unmistakable sound of Nick’s car. (It was the only car that ever came this far back that didn’t sound like it was moments away from breaking down). Nick had spent last night back at the Alexander house, but judging from his early arrival time, it had not been a loving family gathering (even by his family standards, which were low enough as it was). Nate knew it had to be bad to keep ditching the comforts of his multi-million dollar mansion to slum it out here in the woods with Nate.

“I gotta know: is it the shitty space heaters, the junkyard couch, or the crackhead neighbors that just keeps bringing you back?”

He was teasing, well aware that both of them would rather live out here forever than deal with the majority of Nick’s family. He wasn’t complaining about the state of things, either. He knew his living quarters left one wanting, but it was his and he wasn’t about to let Nick buy him anything better (despite his many attempts).

He snapped his fingers, “It’s the overpowering smell of my shitty cooking that lingers for days, isn’t it?”

They both knew it was because this place, despite its humble surroundings, was more a home to Nick than his own had ever been.

Sibling Affection | Violet & Nick

Violet rather enjoyed this new arrangement: Nick’s presence at the Alexander estate seemed to be less and less since their transformation had taken place. It would have been better yet if her father’s demand to know about Nick’s whereabouts did not dominate every conversation, but she hoped that, eventually, those would subside. How long would Nick remain the favorite now? When he evaded his home, his family, and had so clearly made a mess of things, putting them all in danger?

Unfortunately for Violet, the future where her father turned his back on Nick, was not one that was fast approaching.

She was surprised to see him this evening - he’d clearly spent the last few nights with his half-homeless friend who, as it happens, literally lives on the wrong side of the tracks.

“You look terrible,” She quipped, hazel eyes wandering over him: noting his clothes that he’d likely worn for more than one day. He looked tired and worn: certainly not at full strength.

Violet, in contrast, had never felt better.

“I don’t think you’ve been eating properly, poor dear.” Violet added, as though she truly was troubled by it. She poured herself a glass of wine and took a seat, “Would you care for me to show you how it’s done? I heard you’ve had some trouble recently.”

Go Away | Theo & Nick

Theo had missed Hidden Falls. He’d traveled enough of the country to know that it would always be home. Whenever he was away, the thoughts of it were often romanticized and he’d thought he had missed everything about it, but he came to the realization that this was not true, when he ran into Nick Alexander.

He and Chris both had grilled Mia on her friendship with Nick the night before (neither of them were particularly fond of him or their relationship, however it had also been to gather any information on the Alexander family and their situation, in general, as they strongly suspected that his father, at least, was a vampire and could have been connected to the recent killings, if not directly involved). All he had discerned was that Nick’s mother had died (rather suddenly, it seemed -- something he meant to follow up on, later) and that Nick and Mia hadn’t been hanging out as much as they used to.

It was something Theo felt he should be happy about, but it came with some conflicting emotions since he could tell Mia was upset about it and he found that he was furious with Nick for both for hanging out with her too much and also from not hanging out with her now, at all. 

What an asshole.

His emotions became less muddled when he pulled up in front of the Wilson household the next afternoon, only to see Nick waiting in the shade on the front porch. There had been a point last night when he’d hoped Nick would do just that, but seeing him, now, made Theo realize that it was better for everyone if he’d just leave Mia alone, completely.

“She’s not here.”

Truth be told, Theo wasn’t sure if that was strictly true. Her car wasn’t in the drive, but Mia’s old car had the tendency to break down, leaving her to hitch a ride home. However, he wasn’t about to let Nick in to give either of them the chance to find out for sure.
