Random dndads headcanon #12
Taylor regularly endangered his life as a baby/toddler, to a degree that he ended on fire and on the roof at one point, at the age of three.
Nicky developed a sense for whenever Taylor endangered his life, and has been keeping him out of danger (known or unknown) ever since.

small red boy by AJJ could be nickolas foster if he got better. But alas
#wampus rambles#DNDADS S1 (and mild s2) SPOILERS BE WARNED ->#It’s about accepting all aspects of yourself. In the song the singer becomes the demon he feared when he accepts him#Perfect for Nick Close/Nickolas Foster if he would do that lol.But he didn’t. He’s still torn up about his identity when we see him in s2:(#Maybe he improves by the end of the series. But if he’s anything like his dad (or not dad) I’m not convinced

Ok ignore this if you have anything more coming soon about the Troubled Kids AU but if you don't... Please talk more about said AU? I'm very curious 👉👈
*cackling*
yessss i succeeded in getting someone interested with only one out-of-context post!!
You may have seen the character designs i dumped a while back... haha i'm busy with a ton of different AUs and i work on them as the whims hit me
But! I can absolutely give a summary/explanation of this AU!
So yeah, this is obviously a human au, which is what got me started on the idea, but in the process of coming up with designs and backstories that matched those designs, i knew i needed a way to get all the characters together instead of being scattered all over the globe. and somehow i landed on boarding school XD
Dr Eggman is instead known as Professor Robotnik, or Headmaster Robotnik, or maybe Principal Robotnik, idk yet. He's not a villain, but that doesn't make him a good guy, dw. He's the head of a boarding school for "troubled children", which means a lot of the kids don't like him very much, as they are adverse to any authority figure. Doesn't help that he blatantly favors his own kids.... which does not necessarily include his nephew and unwanted bastard child...
His secretary and janitor are Orville and Cuthbert Bott, two brothers who have been employed by the Robotnik family for years, yet remain underpaid and overworked. they do their jobs well enough to not lose them, but they both have a soft spot for the kids, and will generally let them get away with everything. "we're not paid enough for this"
Since it's a troubled kids school, they all have a reason for being there, as it's essentially the last stop before juvie, though some are only there because their parent/caretaker works there and it's more convenient, since the campus is so far out of the way.
Nickolas "Sonic" Klassen and Miles "Tails" Prower both grew up in foster care - more or less. Sonic ran away often, and usually managed to stay out of the homes longer than he was in them. After meeting Tails in one of the homes and defending him, he always took the kid with him when he ran. The last resort was to place the both of them with a foster family that could send them to this boarding school, and didn't have too many other kids taking up space first.
This foster family is the Wachowskis, and the only other foster kid they have is Kamau "Knuckles" Abioye, who is also at the same school. He's an orphan from Africa, with albinism. With that and his less-than-stellar english and social skills, he gets provoked into fights a lot, so he's under close watch at the school.
Amelia Rose befriending him doesn't help, as she's also been sent there for "violent tendencies", aka she once broke a kid's arm with her big mallet, and had a habit of threatening bullies with it. Amy's iron mallet got confiscated before she arrived, so she gets a classmate/new friend to make her a new one out of wood from the school grounds.
Rouge Batson is 18, but she got held back a year due to how much school she missed while getting into trouble. Said trouble was mostly stealing from important people, and truancy, plus a few fights here and there.
Vanilla works at the school as either a nurse or teacher, possibly both? and so Cream goes to school there but is completely innocent of anything. The same goes for Espio and Charles (aka Charmy), as their foster parent, Vector, is the.... groundskeeper? or a truancy officer...? idk but he'd be the one to chase down runaway kids.
the story, if/when i eventually write one(most likely a comic), would start the semester that 15 year old Dominik "Shadow" Robotnik joins the school, freshly awoken from a months-long coma only several weeks before. (having had no time to process and grieve the deaths of his grandfather and sister)
i have no real plot yet, just character backstories, but this is just scratching the surface of the lore i created for them :D
angst angst angst sneaking out of school more angst slowburn adoption bonding healing from trauma discovering secrets more angst etc
#Troubled Kids AU#Professor Robotnik's Boarding School for Troubled Children#sonic au#sth au#sonic the hedgehog#human au#sth human au#sonic human au#intro post#kinda just introducing characters ig#also im pretty sure i'm months late with answering this ask soooo uuuuhhhhh.... sorry?#i genuinely do not mean to leave it that long but i always forget about this stuff#as long as its about my aus any ask i receive WILL get answered eventually

Heaven Adores You: An intimate, meditative inquiry into the life & music of Elliott Smith (2014 film re-release- Directed by Nickolas Ross- REVIEW BY DINA HORNREICH)

As the film opens, we hear its subject brutally confessing how he’s just “the wrong kind of person to be really big and famous.” Moments later, the film reveals the extraordinary impact as news of his passing was spreading in communal shockwaves that resonated across collections of the musician's admirers. Moreover, it is particularly compelling to ponder in this portrayal how his career had almost simultaneously been catapulted by the same interest of the interviewing filmmaker, Gus Van Sant; given how its rising impact had offered the crucial momentum for generating such deserving recognition in the first place. (My own reaction at the time was no different as I murmured to myself: “They say he died from two stab wounds to the chest…and now I feel like I did too.”)
Throughout “Heaven Adores You,” we are consistently left pondering how the achievement of this level of attention had fostered a reluctant role as an awkward Oscar award nominee (even though it felt very deserving to most of us from a distance) – since it was also a catalyst for his downward spiraling into another addiction addled artistic abyss? Obviously, like most things, it’s a bittersweet combination of those disparate elements as they seem to “ping-ping” between paradigmatically hypothetical extremes. As Smith’s particular story seems quite invitational of these common dualistic negotiations while grappling with everyday paradoxes such as why moral strife connotes devastating violence – or whether economic success fosters excessive lifestyle choices instead of sensible habit making.
Furthermore, as audiences, we seem to know that these are not new areas of inquiry for aspiring artists given that natural reluctance to embrace any spotlighted kinds of importance even when being considered for inclusion amidst this litany of talented contributors whose narratives comprise our collective lore and rich cultural heritage; and, as such, this is an uncomfortable feeling that is not exclusive to Smith’s heartbreaking output and individual story whatsoever. However, as it is a painstakingly poignant undercurrent that harrowingly confronts us throughout every moment of the film (given the depths of its portrait of Smith’s words, music, and overall aesthetic); we cannot ignore how Smith’s work clearly embodies the raw and humbling forms of authenticity that seemed unique to our particular mid 90s communities of indie/punk rock peers and collaborators.
Sadly, watching the film also makes it apparent that these are the moments that typically “make or break” artists who are forced to grapple between the intersections given the impact of their artistic messages as it mediates their relationships with those recipients -- and otherwise trying to balance the importance of commercial recognition with a need for financial viability. It’s impossible to avoid getting philosophical, political, and otherwise theoretically volatile when we understand the intense pressures of living in a world that still sends poets to jail and otherwise tortures artists until they simply can’t bear that existence anymore. (Wasn’t it Kurt Cobain who asked: “Is it better to burn out or fade away?”) And this film offers those continual reminders for us to simply say “thank you” to Elliot Smith for having lasted long enough to leave us these musical treasures even though they also serve as painful reminders that we will never stop missing him!

RoQNET: 11-Mile Fiber-Optic Quantum Leap For Network

Rochester Quantum Network
Researchers at the University of Rochester and RIT have constructed an experimental quantum communications network spanning both campuses, advancing secure, scalable quantum data transfer. The Rochester Quantum Network (RoQNET) sends data over 11 miles of fiber-optic cable using photons' unique properties.
The ambient-temperature network employs optical wavelengths. The esteemed journal Optica Quantum detailed this remarkable development.
Although it is difficult to clone or intercept communications without detection, quantum communication networks may improve data security. Quantum communication employs qubits, unlike conventional communication methods, which are prone to breaches.
Qubits can be made from atoms, superconductors, or diamond defects. Photons, individual light particles, are the best qubit for long-distance communication. Photons are attractive because they can pass across worldwide fiber-optic infrastructure. Photons may communicate with many qubits due to their wide wavelength range and light speed.
Even though future quantum networks may use qubits like quantum dots or trapped ions for processing or sensing, photons are still the most compatible with present communications lines. The current study is on enabling communication across various qubit types in a single network.
Photon transmission technology advances
Researchers at both campuses used photonics, quantum information theory, and optics to produce cutting-edge technologies using photonic-integrated circuits. These circuits improve quantum communications network efficiency.
The arrangement centres on a photonic chip, fibre array unit, and extremely nonlinear crystal. This configuration creates a tiny, customisable platform that can link visible quantum nodes across the present telecommunications network, according to studies. Crystals create entangled visible-telecom photon pairs.
Large, costly superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) are employed for quantum communication over fiber-optic lines nowadays. The researchers want to overcome this limitation and lessen their dependence on these bulky technologies by developing more portable and scalable options. One goal is to put these complex quantum experiments that formerly needed bulk optics and huge telescopes onto a microprocessor.
Consider Quantum Entanglement
The research effort aims to produce network-wide quantum entanglement technologies. “Our focus is on distributed quantum entanglement, and RoQNET is a test bed,” said RIT Kate Gleason College of Engineering professor Stefan Preble. Quantum particles are perfectly correlated once entangled, regardless of distance.
Nickolas Vamivakas, the Marie C. Wilson and Joseph C. Wilson Professor of Optical Physics at the University of Rochester, hailed the program a huge step towards developing quantum networks for distant computing, imaging, and secure communications.
Other teams have constructed experimental quantum networks throughout the world, but RoQNET uses solid-state-based quantum memory nodes and integrated quantum photonic devices to produce quantum light. This unique approach advances quantum communication technology.
Future Goals
The team's ambitious objective is to expand RoQNET to more cutting-edge New York State research institutes. Plans include linking New York University, Air Force Research Laboratory, Stony Brook University, and Brookhaven National Lab. The development of a comprehensive network through this expansion should boost quantum communication in the area. RoQNET will foster collaboration between top institutions and advance quantum technologies.
The Air Force investigation Laboratory generously funded this groundbreaking investigation, demonstrating its strategic importance.
Consequences of Safe Communication
Beyond scholarly curiosity, the discovery may influence secure communications management methods and enable quantum computing and networking tactics. Due to its unprecedented security, quantum technology requires a review of conventional communication systems. The rise of data integrity and privacy issues will require innovations like RoQNET to set new standards for secure communication protocols.
The flexibility of developing technology is important too. New qubit sources and quantum physics advancements will be compatible with the University of Rochester and RIT infrastructure. RoQNET is more than a milestone; it's the foundation for future quantum networks.
This work combines theoretical and practical results in quantum communications, demonstrating innovation. The research team is solving intrinsic difficulties to advance secure communication. Their contributions may provide the groundwork for quantum physics understanding and application.
RoQNET's quantum physics and technology integration is an obsessive search for information that might change secure communications. These two respected organisations' cooperation in unknown information security terrain shows what may be achieved with cooperation and a single purpose.
Recent advances in quantum technology suggest a future with quicker and more secure communication. Scientists are discovering a wide range of possibilities for quantum communication, from defensive systems to corporate applications, making humanity better suited to manage the digital world.
A photonic chip connects a fibre array unit and a highly nonlinear crystal. The crystal's entangled visible-telecom photon pairs, processed on silicon nitride and silicon photonic integrated circuits, provide a tiny and flexible platform to connect visually accessible quantum nodes across present telecommunications infrastructure.

If Normal was 6 during code purple, and is 14-15 in s2, that would have made Taylor 7-8 when Nick left. He would have some memories of him, unless code purple stripped him (and possibly Cassandra) of all memory of anything ‘magic’. And what’s more magic than a sword wielding prince of hell?
All this to say, Taylor should be able to slowly get his memories of his dad back.

Honestly, Nickolas wasn't sure what he truly wanted from the war - all he knew, he just didn't want to be looked down upon. For him to be noticed by his Godly Parent. "Then you're a lucky one. Most that aren't twenty the threat is gone." For the most part - for some reason, knowing you're Godly parent as a teen made you smell more, or something.
Growing up was horrid with no father, barely being able to sleep. His father is why his mother is dead. Nickolas' powers make him unable to sleep, and when he does it's a crash out and can take those out with him. His father is why the foster family he was with died after he ran away from them.
"They lost five siblings. Do you know how many Hecate children died? Do you know how many demigods died who fought for an once of their parents attention? How many of those were Apollo's? My side lost hundreds, Camp lost not even close to that. They lost 16! 16 losses in the Manhattan War! Yet there still isn't a clear number of demigods on Kronos' side."
"Is this the ending you wanted?" They yawned, though their piercing blue eyes were staring at their brother rather intensely.
"I'm not one who ever cared about being noticed by our father.....I only just came to camp this year after all. New campers arent usually almost twenty." She stretched her arms out slooowwwwly in front of themselves before shuffling them back under the pillow.
"Were all the deaths worth being noticed? Apollo cabin is almost empty now."
