Adah Sharma’s ‘The Kerala Story’ Crosses Rs 50 Crores In Just 5 Days

As the days are passing on, Adah Sharma’s ‘The Kerala Story’ is going with a strong collection record at the ticket windows. Even the positive mouth spread and critics are helping the movie to go on with a healthy rush in the theatres. Within five days of its release, the movie surpassed Rs 50 crores mark and surprised all and sundry. Being week days and that too Monday and Tuesday, it showcased tremendous growth in the collection report.

15. What’s their phone lockscreen/background picture?

Mona: Mona is a sap. she won't show it much publicly, but she is. so she's kinda sneaky in the way she wants to show it. like in the way her phone background, right now, is the photograph of a Ferris wheel. we know why, obviously.

Dinah: Dinah loves flowers and it's really no secret. there's this tall-ish bush of really fragrant Azalea flowers (one of her favourites) on her way to work that she loves and has taken a lot of photographs of. one such photograph of the blossoms is her phone background right now.

Arzoo: Arzoo loves the night sky and feels strangely connected to it. she's one to go for overnight camps, whenever she finds time to. her phone background is a photo she took of a starry sky on one such camp.

Nimah: Nimah may not collect bugs anymore but she collects pictures of them! and by that, i mean she is always on the lookout (of sorts) for any cool bug sighting. her current lockscreen is a picture of a couple bugs she found with an iridescent blue exoskeleton. only that they're in Farah's hands, who is seen sporting a huge glee in the photograph.

18. How strong is their alcohol tolerance?

Mona: she's not one to drink, usually, but i think her alcohol tolerance would be pretty average.

Dinah: Dinah's tolerance leans a little towards the weaker...end? so she's always quite cautious with her drinking.

Arzoo: Arzoo doesn't drink. so...yeah.

Nimah: she has a suspiciously high alcohol tolerance. not that it's oddly high or something i personally just find it suspicious when people have a high alcohol tolerance.

20. What’s their go-to song for the gym?

Mona: Mona likes to work out to Disco Era Bollywood music because why not, amirite? it's got just enough workout music energy that she needs.

Dinah: Dinah's choice of workout music keeps changing; it's largely dependent on her mood and the vibe she's going for that day. so she puts her music library on shuffle and hopes for the best, lol.

Arzoo: Arzoo listens to western classical music with a faster (perhaps a tad more energetic) tempo. that, or A. R. Rahman.

Nimah: Nimah's go-to workout playlist contains 90s Indipop music. what can i say, the songs are a bop. if not that, classic rock. either way, she's internally jamming the hell out of the playlist.

answering for the Wayhaven Summer Ask Game!

14. Does their hairstyle change in the summer? Maybe cut it shorter to keep it light or pull it back to keep it breezy?

Mona has usually had shoulder-length hair that she tied up in a ponytail during summer. of late though, she's been looking to grow out her hair and wears it in a bun for most part.

Dinah has a lot of hair and it makes it very easy for her to feel hot. it also looks even wilder than it really is and is a lot less manageable, during summer. but she loves it. wouldn't have her hair any shorter than below her shoulder blades.

Arzoo has always had hair at such a length that it only barely touches her shoulders. she knows how difficult it could be to manage her curly(-ish) hair if it got any longer – especially during summer – and would rather quit while she's ahead.

Nimah has always had longish hair but it's also easier to manage because her hair is, like, naturally straight. so she wouldn't cut it, but it goes up in a bun during summer – well, as opposed to being let loose or being tied in a ponytail.

15. Favorite summer activity to spend their time?

Mona, like i mentioned here, loves to make ice-cream. it's mostly how she copes with the heat, lol. she also likes to host lunches with close friends sometimes and spends every minute of her free time in the week leading up to said lunch, thoroughly planning it.

Dinah has recently taken to potting plants, looking after them; a lot of them are flowering ones. other than that, she enjoys going to the beach. that, and picking berries, if she finds time. she has at least one day dedicated to berry picking.

Arzoo loves stargazing. it's always been one of her favourite things to do. she's got some inexplicably personal connection with the activity. she also takes time out to go to the roof of her building to paint the summer sky. or just sit there and soak it all up in silence.

apart from trying to wish the season away, Nimah loves to go camping during summers. her favourite place to go camping is by a lake close to Wayhaven. it's a great view to wake up to. it's pleasant. at some point in the evenings, you may spot fireflies around the place, which is just delightful.

20. Are they happy to welcome fall or sad to see summer leave at the end of the season?

Mona is low-key glad that summer is over because it can make her quite irritable and she can only make so much icecream to cool off, lol.

Dinah dislikes autumn/fall because it precedes winter, which is absolutely not fond of. she definitely misses the sun.

Arzoo may not necessarily like the fact that summer's ending but the commencement of autumn/fall means that winter's closer, which is absolutely the favourite time of the year. so she's live with it.

autumn/fall couldn't arrive any faster for Nimah. summer is just not her most favourite time and she will never miss it.

7. Relaxing on the beach or playing in the water?

Mona is more of a walk-along-the-shoreline kind of person. just walking barefoot in the sand, the water joining in with its own rhythm, yeah. if she's walking in comfortable company, she may suddenly (and purposely) take longer strides, so the water splashes around and she gets a good (though quiet) laugh out of that.

oh, Dinah is in the water, alright. splashing friends, posing for pictures, kind of swimming – just really letting go. this is one of her favourite things about summer, so obviously, she's going to make the most of it.

Arzoo is simply going to relax on the beach. lots of sunscreen, a pair of dark glasses, the shade of a big umbrella, a nice, light read – you get the drift. maybe she'll also people-watch from over the book she's "reading". she likes doing that much more than she cares to admit.

Nimah: look, Nimah hates summer; cannot tolerate the heat at all. but she can let the hate slide for a bit for a trip to the beach. she likes to explore the beach and find cool-looking shells to take pictures of (and with, if no one's watching). she's always been a bigass dork underneath all the propriety and collectedness, as we know.

15.  Are they good at cooking? Do they enjoy it? What do others think of their cooking?

Mona might just be the best cook, out of the four. she loves to eat and try new foods. but if there’s something she likes more, it is to cook, and she does so whenever she gets a chance. it’s one of the ways by which she forms (and strengthens) connections with places, people and/or cultures. so, you best believe she has a rich and diverse collection of recipes (with pictures - of the dish; maybe also of the place or the people she associates the dish with). it’s quite safe to say people love her cooking; Tina especially looks forward to trying anything that Mona brings for her, Verda and Douglas. her style is something you’d call homely, cosy, or nostalgic. she cooks with her heart and it shows.

Dinah has her own style. let’s say, Dinah has two modes: one - where she prepares food that one would normally eat - and the other, where she gets really into it, resulting in the process looking a lot like witnessing a car crash - you just can’t not look, even if you want to. it’s kind of whimsical at such times? and chaotic. oh, so chaotic. like, she’ll try to jam together very unlikely and weird-sounding flavour pairings, which are either sinfully delicious or taste close to what the sludge in the deepest crevice of hell might taste like, no in-between. so, yeah, it’s like a coin-toss for anyone she offers her “new invention”.

Arzoo can cook well enough to survive and keep her taste buds interested. she’s just not here to cook gourmet-sounding shit because nobody’s got time for that. nor does she think she’d be able to pull it off without hitches. she has a set of simple, appetizing recipes that she knows like the back of her hand and she prepares them well enough. she thinks of cooking more as a survival skill than anything else and treats it as such. but sure, there are times she finds a recipe or eats something that she feels she must try to make herself, but those instances are too few and far between. people do like her food, though; they like usually the simplicity of it, in spite of the vibrancy of the flavours that carry the dish.

Nimah is quite...decent when it comes to cooking, but not in an intuitive sense. so long as she has clear instructions that describe the procedure well, it's all breezy; leave her with vague measurements or instructions and she'll begin to lose her mind, fretting over minuscule things. so, she (always) tends to rely heavily on well-written recipes. at such times, she produces great food, that everyone seems to enjoy.

22. What are their favourite insults to use? What do they insult people for? Or do they prefer to bitch behind someone’s back?

Mona is pretty averse to insulting someone. you’ve really got to have done something to draw that reaction out of her. usually it's in pure exasperation at someone being needlessly reckless (especially for her sake). if it's not that, she falls back on heavy sarcasm and passive-aggressive body language that's just downright devastating.

Dinah can, sometimes, be too expressive for her own good. it's not so much verbally, though; she has little control over how her facial muscles respond to certain people/situations and her disdain becomes obvious, if she does not school her face quickly enough. but of course, if the situation is too provocative, it may draw the words out of her mouth. until then, she’s content running her mouth behind the person’s back with Tina, Verda and Farah as an audience. 

Arzoo insults exclusively through facial expressions and body language. on the off-chance that she uses her words, she does so against people she truly despises and she’s absolutely devastating while at it, and RIP @ the receiver. she also happens to be of the kind that, when dealing with people who purposefully seek to provoke her, (*cough* Bobby *gag*) she works out the response they’re expecting from her and just. does not. give them. that, because it's just so much more fun.

Nimah, much like Mona, is not too fond of the idea of insulting someone. and she sticks by it. whatever intimidating vibe she gives off comes solely out of her demeanour, seemingly no-nonsense attitude and this...grace that she carries herself with, rather than out of the fear of being insulted. she doesn’t see the appeal of bitching behind someone’s back either, but she does vent when her frustration has surpassed her threshold.

25. What do they find funny? Do they have a good sense of humour? Are they funny themselves?

Mona enjoys, and usually partakes in, wordplay. she lives for the eye rolls, the scoffs and the groans. while she likes to find humour in the most mundane things, it's a very conscious choice she makes because her sense of humour is actually surprisingly morbid. it slips out regardless sometimes, earning her very concerned looks from Nate, who also wishes she didn't use it when in stressful situations (as opposed to Morgan, who is her #1 enabler).

Arzoo deeply enjoys dark and morbid humour. it kind of comes from a place of overcompensation for how aversive she truly finds death and pain, but you didn't hear it from me. much of her witty remarks seem to have this underlying dark theme too, and she has a dry, deadpan way of delivering them. well, save for the little twinkle that finds its way to her eyes sometimes.

Nimah loves irony and satirical humour, even though she wouldn't employ sarcasm in her interactions a whole lot. she also finds amusement in the little things in day-to-day life that go out of control but only just enough to remain amusing (as opposed to, well, and absolute pain in the ass). she does have her moments of comic glory – though she makes sure it isn't often, and when she does, it's because of how dryly she delivers her remarks.

41. What’s their sexuality? What do they find attractive? Physically and mentally? What do they like/need in a relationship?

to answer the first part, all of my detectives are bisexual women. now, getting to answering the rest of it:

Mona's attention, when talking about physical characteristics, is most easily caught by someone's eyes and the way they carry themself. eyes, to her, are one of the most expressive features that one has and reflect one's character, to an extent. eyes that reflect warmth and gentleness, eyes that seem to have an ever-present, non-threatening twinkle in them, eyes that reflect friendliness – all draw her in the most. effectively, that means she's most drawn to kindness and general ease and openness that a person may have about themself. this is also something she needs in a relationship: warmth and ease and openness. she needs reassurance.

Nate ticks a lot of boxes for her here, but so did Bobby, at one point; he was as charming as Nate is, and somewhere, throws her off a bit. Nate is still far more genuine and respectful than Bobby ever was, and yet, his polite deflection of matters about his life keeps her on edge, even if she respects his wishes. so, there's that.

talking purely of physical characteristics, Dinah is really drawn to people who dress stylishly and put some effort into their appearance, as a whole. one of the first things she notices in a person is also their smile and the ease with which they let it adorn their face. it makes sense, then, that she'd be attracted to people who smile often and have this friendly aura and are easy to get along with. however, she tends to admire such people more if they also don't hesitate to back themself (and their values) up, if need be. besides that, she finds herself drawn to people who know how to chill, given her struggle with doing just that in the past. what she needs in a relationship is thoughtfulness. she needs effort and some space for vulnerability.

clearly, Adam is not the kind of person she’d usually experience attraction for. the fact that she does anyway puzzled her for a while before she just kind of resigned to it; she’s not one to deny her feelings. but she also recongises that Adam needs time, and she can see how good this can be, so she holds on.

Arzoo doesn’t really have a particular preference when it comes to physical features but she does find a confident walk very attractive. that is something she notices in everyone she meets - the way they walk. in fact, confidence is something she finds deeply attractive. she also admires the quality of wanting to work on growing as a person because, to her, there's always an opportunity to grow. she needs that in a relationship too – an opportunity to grow. but she also needs to feel safe. and wanted. a gentle reassurance that what they have is worthwhile.

44. What is their favourite season? Type of weather? Are they good in the cold or the heat? What weather do they complain in the most?

Arzoo's not sure what attracted her to Morgan, even if it's all "casual". the only thing Morgan has going for her is her confidence. but that cannot be it, GOD. Morgan is so full of herself. and Arzoo strongly believes that one cannot be completely satisfied with oneself, ever. it's something that she's based her whole personality on. and Morgan challenges that. she reflects confidence not just in herself but also shows such unshaking faith in Arzoo that it sets her heart alight with a flicker of a familiar feeling that she quashes too quickly to take notice.

Nimah takes notice of people's smiles and how they brighten the features of their face. she also thinks dimples are kinda cute??? when it comes to personality, Nimah finds it attractive when someone is unabashedly themself, given how much she actually struggles with it herself. she’s also drawn to people who are warm and kinda hospitable (?), and ensure that others are at ease. that’s also something that she looks for in a relationship: acceptance, the space to be whatever (and however) the hell she wishes to be, and effortlessness.

Farah’s nature did overwhelm Nimah at the very beginning but she didn’t miss simply how comfortable Farah seemed with herself, a reckless abandon that was so unmistakably her. and just how easy it was to be in Farah's company: as a colleague, as a friend, as...something more. Nimah loves how she can be unapologetically herself around Farah, without being bound by things like "image". what she has with Farah is something she's never had the fortune to have – an effortless relationship; something that flows with the ease of serene water that takes her in, completely.

i’ve already answered for Mona right here! a one-line description would be: whatever season (and weather!) it is for the brief transition period between winter and spring!

Dinah really loves spring. she loves the liveliness, the vibrancy, the colours that the season brings. she loves how pleasant it usually is. the best days, though, are ones when the sky is adorned with just the right number of clouds for it to be bright without any actual heat from the sun. at least there’s light at the end of a wintery tunnel. that’s probably the only redeeming factor about winter. that, and the festive season. but mostly the former, given how no amount of cheer and excitement can keep her hands from getting cold. and her teeth from chattering annoyingly. just another thing to hate about winters.

Arzoo’s favourite season’s got to be winter. she loves the chill it brings, the warmth that it promises: a cup of hot coffee, the fireplace, the company of her cosiest blanket and her favourite book from childhood - all of it, sure. but what she likes a tad more is the general cheerfulness that winters bring. she does not really celebrate the holidays, but the whole place seems to buzz with energy around that time. what she loathes, though, is monsoon. the sludge, the puddles, the general inconvenience that it brings with it. honestly, the only thing that monsoon has got it right with is the lovely petrichor that it leaves behind. that’s it. so, obviously, one would find her in an extra-grouchy mood on particularly rainy days.

there’s something about the period of a slow transition between autumn and winter that Nimah absolutely adores. the wind gets chillier but it’s not cold, everyone readies themselves for cosier days, the skies get a little clearer, and yet, sunsets are scenic as ever, and days are speckled with the brief and gentle warmth of the sun. it’s just...perfect. what isn’t perfect is spring, only because she cannot handle the pollens in the air, about which she’ll groan internally for the larger part of the season but yeah. she’s also not a big fan of summers, complaining the most about how hot it is because she cannot handle the heat; it’s annoying enough as is, and it keeps taking away her focus from matters at hand.

Mona:

there is almost always a smirk adorning her face that does not quite match the softness in her eyes - softness that seeks to welcome people, softness that looks out for you even when you think you’re alone (especially when you think you’re alone), softness that almost readily envelopes you in a warmth that feels distant and intimate all at once. 

one cannot help but be amazed by her sense of humour and her quick wit. but there is a way about her gentleness that is so inexplicably Mona, it warms up the whole cold world and makes your heart ache to be able to give it back to her.

Dinah:

a deep crinkle always seems to find a place on her face: in between her eyebrows when she’s working her mind, the corners of her eyes when she smiles, the bridge of her nose when she lets out an excited giggle. it’s admittedly quite charming, to be perfectly honest – a ribbon gracing the gift of a heart that she has.

even in a room full of the brightest lights, her spirit shines brighter – her unwavering, unyielding, brilliant spirit. a spirit that can drive one up a wall with as much fierceness as when she stands by you.

Nimah:

Nimah is an oddball. she carries with her the serenity of still waters. it often seems to be at odds with the ever-present hint of mischief that one may catch if they’re really looking at her.

she has an air of self-assurance about her that seems tough and unbreakable and yet, you notice how weathered it is from the cracks it has should she allow you to look closely.

it's always the matter of a patient closer inspection, of scratching the surface, of discovery and rediscovery, and you cannot help but do it for her.

Arzoo:

Arzoo feels like a warm (slightly prickly) blanket that keeps the cold away. the first breath of fresh air taken out in the open. a wordless act of service. a moment of serendipity.

she presents challenge and comfort almost simultaneously: a gentle push towards growth. she is perceptive; gentle, but not in a way that overtly seems like it. she's exactly the kind of person that everyone deserves to have in their life, a force to be reckoned with.

Mona tends to be pretty focused on one person, yes.

Mona hardly ever dates and when she does, it’s after much deliberation. when dating, she likes for the person to have all of her attention. this would get a little too exhausting for her, should she date multiple people at once, so it’s better this way.

💅🏼: Does Mona always try to look her best around her partner, or is she comfortable wearing anything around them?

Mona usually goes for functionality when it comes to clothing but she also has an inherent sense of style. her dressing sense remains pretty much the same even when she’s dating someone. what changes, though, is the way she accessorises herself. she may smell different. she may use kohl to bring out the brownness of her eyes. she may opt for more elegant-looking accessories to go with her usual outfit. it’s not much extra effort but people who should notice, would.

Nimah:

🌹: How would Nimah react to romantic gestures, expected or not?

Nimah has always appreciated romantic gestures - expected or unexpected, grand or low-key (though the scales tip a tad in favour of the latter, if she were to be honest). she greatly values the sentiment and thought that is involved in the makings of any kind of romantic gesture, which may often translate to a teary-eyed ‘thank you’ or any form of physical affection: a tight hug, a kiss (anywhere or everywhere on the partner’s face), the like.

given her stoic presentation of herself, one wouldn’t think she’d have such an overt reaction to romantic gestures but stranger things have happened.

❤️: Does Nimah focus on one person, or does she like to go and date as many people as possible?

Nimah is not the most social person, to begin with. sure, she’s worked for the community and continues to do so tirelessly, but it’s a wholly different ball game for her when it comes to forming new relationships (especially if they’re of the romantic kind). such an...exercise, calls for too much of her energy and much like Mona, she’d rather invest it in one person than drain herself going out with multiple people vying for her attention.

💅🏼: Does Nimah always try to look her best around her partner, or is she comfortable wearing anything around them?

Nimah is, as is, very put-together and tries to look presentable at all times. if it’s in the presence of the person she’s dating, especially if it’s a very early stage in the relationship, even more so. but she’s quite subtle about it. her hair, for example, may look a little different but it’s subtle enough for one to not put a finger on exactly what it is about her hair that makes her look... undeniably prettier.

later on, once she’s pretty set with someone, she’s likely to let loose and allow herself to look a little less “made up” and proper. she lets the person in to see what she is like underneath the air of propriety and perfection. she does put on her A-game even at this stage, but it’s more a matter of the occasion.

Mona was a nerd in school - something akin to a teachers’ pet, maybe? that’s mostly got to do with her seeking approval from any parental figure in her life. clearly, her mother’s absence affected her more than she cares to acknowledge. her familiarity with school as a result of Rebecca’s absence made her, rather oddly, enjoy her time there. education is something she places a lot of value in and that’s why she went on to complete her graduation in college, majoring in criminology with a minor in literature. it made sense to her, given that she has always loved languages and has command of a bunch of ‘em. naturally, her favourite subjects were the language classes she took. and maybe physics, though she despised maths like it had personally wronged her (which it might’ve. kinda).

Dinah was one of those kids in school that put the least amount of effort in whatever they did but were really good at things in general. she was also fairly popular; she knew a lot of people in school, given the number of clubs she was part of. her involvement in so many school activities kept her occupied for most of the day but she had fun doing it, no complaints. her favourite subject's got to be social studies. but that's also because she was really fond of the teachers who taught her. she hated physics, though; every bit of it. she couldn't explain why but she just did. Dinah wanted to be a psychologist, so she aimed at majoring in psychology. and she gave her all to get there, though she fell short. her third year in college got particularly overwhelming, to the point that she saw no way out other than dropping out. so she did.

Nimah was an extremely studious kid, very thorough about whatever she did; y'know, the kind you see hunched on a seat in the first row, furiously taking notes. all her notes were exceptionally organised. also, unlike Mona, she never did anything to gain anyone's approval (and ironically, she finds herself stuck with that image now); she found an odd sense of comfort in her academics. so she did enjoy at least that part of her school experience. she didn't particularly like the rest of it, though. she really enjoyed studying Science – especially, chemistry and biology – and still keeps her knowledge updated. Nimah surprised everyone by choosing not to go to college, though. she volunteered, instead. that's where she developed this sense of community with the people at Wayhaven and took that spirit further by joining the force.

Arzoo wasn't exactly social. she found people (still does, to an extent) to be kinda draining, though she liked to help them whenever she could. she'd be the kind of child that you know likes to be by themself but wouldn't hesitate when someone needed help. she didn't like school a bunch and was pretty average in academics, though she loved maths, and was really good at art. she took Rook's death the hardest – though she didn't know him much – and was kind of set with the idea of getting into her father's shoes when she grew up. so she went ahead and got herself a degree in criminal justice before working her way through to join the force.

16. Do they collect anything? What do they do with it? Where do they keep it?

Mona has this kinda weird habit of collecting recipes. she has a keen eye for cultural knowledge and loves to understand the culture of any new place through not just the languages (and dialects) spoken, but also from the food eaten by people there. she may not necessarily cook every recipe she has collected but she has journals filled with them that she keeps around in her kitchen.

Dinah, for a while in college, used to collect pretty flowers she spotted around and would press them by placing them in her old books. it went out of practice over the years, but she still finds a pressed flower somewhere in a few of her books once in a while. maybe she'll find the time and motivation to find them all and put them in one place, someday.

Nimah doesn't collect things anymore but she used to have a small – albeit colourful (and hidden) – collection of bugs as a child that went unnoticed for a very long time. that was until one of her nannies found it and she had to bid goodbye to all her colourful (and dead, yikes) buddies. all of them received a collective "sending off party", with her and the nanny being the only attendees, but that's okay. [that explains her love for biology, huh.]

Arzoo has always been deeply fascinated by oddly shaped rocks and pebbles; she just cannot explain why. as a child, she would bring home these rocks and pebbles, wash and dry them, and paint on them whenever she found time. this is a hobby she continues to maintain, though she doesn't get to paint on them as often as she'd like to now.

27. What makes them sad? Do they cry regularly? Do they cry openly or hide it? What are they like when they are sad?

Mona is quite empathetic, and anything that makes someone around her sad tends to make her sad too. but she doesn't let her sadness translate to tears, not often. instead, she tends to carry the sadness in the back of her mind, buried deep somewhere. the more personal the sadness feels, the deeper it usually is situated. she tends to distract herself by cooking or planning a meal, if she has the luxury to do that. if not, she brings herself to a zen-er self by stepping back and taking a few deep breaths before continuing to go about her business. when she does cry, though, it's mostly when she finds herself alone. so she's no stranger to the practice of crying in the shower.

Dinah is not easily shaken or pulled into a state where sadness becomes a mood rather a passing feeling. but sadness of near and dear ones does affect her personally. well, that and if Adam continues to be, well, Adam about their relationship, then that too. Dinah is a crier and she'll do it pretty openly, if the situation she is in doesn't demand the contrary. she is the kind of person who would cry it out whenever they can. that, with a bucket of ice-cream, and that'll be it.

witnessing or experiencing loss of any kind make Nimah sad the most, though she may not openly express it. she feels the need to remain objective and practical in the company of people, so she feels pain and sadness very privately. she'll definitely try to put up a front when experiencing sadness in public. when she's sure she's alone, though, she lets go and cries if she feels the need to.

Arzoo is still a little hung up on the loss of her father. she somehow never seemed to fully move past that. that is something that still weighs her down a bit. it's one of the few things she allows herself to cry about. sadness of that kind causes her to withdraw almost completely. she tries to continue functioning but she usually does just the bare minimum, though she'll never neglect her duties.
