drew one of my fave designs,, nimues too pretty

okok so. I've been cooking up something for A While, but it's taken quite a long time to figure out and steep BUT I'VE FINALLY DONE IT! so now I get to share it all with you :]

to preface: this is all hc! just me spitballing with ideas I personally enjoy, don't feel like you've gotta agree with me

so. I think about the crew's lives pre Aionios pretty often, and I think the person who most perplexes me is Taion - of course, he's the only one without clear ties to any previous characters or other existing characters in story! but I kept thinking about him and Nimue, and how they had that sort of sibling relationship to me. I already had another hc that Nimue was Mòrag and Brighid's eldest daughter, with Sena having come around later! naturally, I combined that with her connection to Taion to get him having been an adopted sibling to the two. it's cute! it's heartwarming! but there was always my other, more pressing question... how on Alrest did Taion become a blade-eater when he was only a child? this is what really stumped me for awhile, but this is what I cooked up.

so. Taion and his family were moving away from the lower parts of the Mor Ardainian titan, thinking it would be better to now live in the capital. Taion suggested their route - he had already scoped ahead, of course. unfortunately, what he didn't know is that the land they were going to cross over was taken and guarded by a very territorial village of criminals hiding from the law. so the minute they got caught, well... things turned out for the worst. his parents were killed, and he nearly was too, having been left for dead. Thankfully, Nimue had found them while out on one of her own personal adventures to get a lay of the land (gotta know your territory if you're gonna be such a central royal figure!). using the technology she had learned from Pandoria and Zeke whenever they had visited, she implanted part of her core crystal into where the boy was shot, saving his life. she rescued him and took him back to the castle, where the rest of the Ladair family took him in with open arms (and if not, well, Nimue was already rapidly becoming quite protective of him). she soon became his older sister figure, and Sena as his other adopted sister. he met Mio through the Ladair connections as well, n the rest is history :3 (not really history but y'know, they become besties, and probably go on a quest to find their missing soulmates)

ya !! that's it !! I think it's so much fun to think about their lives outside of Aionios, and this'll definitely help me in my path to eventually write a few scenes from it :]

Thoughts/musings on Nimue

I've been revisiting Xenoblade Chronicles 3 via NG+ after completing it the 1st time a year and a half ago, and a thought struck me: how did Nimue, someone from a peaceful colony isolated from normal contact (let alone fighting), rise to power as another colony's military strategist and its commander's right-hand woman? 

I like to think that Isurd saw her potential during his time recovering at the Lost Colony, like he played a strategy board game or something with her and she turned out to have a talent for tactics.

The idea of "sleeping your way to the top" likely doesn't even compute with these Agnian and Kevesi soldiers who have no concept of things like romance. So they wouldn't be thinking and saying stuff like that. But I assume there was likely still initial skepticism, maybe even resentment, at the time Nimue first joined Isurd's colony. I doubt they would have accepted some random girl Isurd brought in as their strategist right off the bat. She probably had to prove herself through a fair share of battles against Keves to earn respect from Colony Lambda and earn her place as its strategist, and prove that Isurd's high regard of her isn't unfounded.

That made me think that's partly why Nimue regards Taion with fondness and compassion. Maybe by seeing him struggle as a budding tactician and getting pushback from his peers, it reminds Nimue of her own struggles with assimilating into Colony Lambda.

Anyway maybe I'm rambling at this point. I love to fill in room between the lines for interpretation of minor characters I like.

Xenoblade 3 cast outside Aionios headcanons

The city Noah, Eunie, Lanz, and Joran are from in the opening scene is Gran Dell

Noah, Eunie, and Lanz are not related to any XB1 characters

Crys is Shulk and Fiora's first kid, Nikol's older brother

Crys still teaches Noah the flute

Ashera is Dunban's daughter

Panacea and Crys are friends

Blade/Human hybrids are functionally like Blade Eaters physiologically

Sena and/or Miyabi are Mio's Blades

(I'd like Sena to be related to Brighid and Morag but I don't see a way to do that while also having Mio awaken her from a core crystal)

Mythra's kid is a boy named Milton

Taion is a Blade Eater and Nimue was his "donor" Blade. But he's not her Driver.

Dromarch is overprotective of Mio and spent a lot of time babysitting her when she was younger

Back with more xenoblade tonight! Mostly sidequesting after all the Everything last weekend.

We found the Romeo and Juliet sidequest! I forgot they reference the Nopon romance from 1, that's a cute bit of continuity

And our first encounter with the ottils! We were both just cooing and squeeing over them for at least a minute

Now we're getting into Eunie's side story, which I'm very excited for because it'll finally answer all of my roommate's questions about Gold colonies

The group of colony 5 soldiers can separate while you're getting them out of the cave?? I didn't know they could do that, interesting

X is really pretty! I guess I didn't notice it the first time I played but she actually has a nice design and voice and everything. Wish we got to know more about her :(

Every day I ask myself why they didn't bring back trading for materials in 3 when it literally makes more sense in-universe than it did in 1 and would've been SO helpful for gem crafting

Oh whoa some of the generic soldiers in Lambda have a floating text box talking about the truth of Gold colonies, which must've been triggered by completing Eunie's side story. I didn't know they could do that, that's actually super cool

Hehe yesss she's going as crazy over Isurd and Nimue and Taion's side story as I did. I love this game

So three of the people in Colony Delta are Blades. I know most Blades in Xenoblade 3 are just kind of generic and don't really show any connections to the Blade elements from 2 (I think the only exceptions are Sena, Nimue, and Cammuravi). I gave the Delta Blade trio elements because I think it'd be cool but I'm not sure how to show that in their designs.

Thea: She's the main OC in this project so she really needs to stand out like the heroes in game. She's an electric Blade. I've heard lightning can leave some neat patterns where it strikes so that could be used as the pattern for her ether lines, but I'm afraid of seeing how those marks would look on real people since I'm worried those images might look too gruesome (I'm weak).

Hilda: She's a dark Blade. Thinking about giving her some kind of space theme, but I don't have much more than that.

Ulrich: He's a wind Blade. Looked at Blades from Xenoblade 2 for inspiration and like half of the wind Blades there aren't even close to looking human. Some bird traits would be the easy thing to do but that might make him look too much like a High Entia.

Chapter 2 of Till We Find Ourselves Again is now up! This art depicts a scene from it that I was really excited to draw, though it took a lot of effort and time to make the sketch of Eunie look more authentic (Taion is using charcoal to sketch as requested by the client, this art piece in total took eight and a half hours and the sketch was the bulk of that time). I hope you enjoy the chapter and the art!

Nimue
