Motorcyclists have a secret hand signal they use when they encounter each other on the road. (It's not really "secret" but they don't exactly advertise it either.) It's meant as a subtle sign of respect that says I see you and you see me and how fucking cool are motorcycles, be safe out there friend. It communicates all of that.
Jeep owners have this too, a hand signal called "The Jeep Wave", used to acknowledge another Jeep owner on the road. (From my research it seems as though in typical Jeep cult fashion they went way overboard with this one and have like 15 different versions of the wave. (I find this 50% ridiculous 50% aspirational.)
People who ride scooters should have this too. There's a lot of us out on the road these days, more and more all the time. Cruising along at 10-18 mph, angling for space in the increasingly crowded bike lanes.
The thing about scooters is they’re so fun, so when you see someone else on one there’s a sort of shared: We’re having fun, right? like when your dog looks up at you out on a walk.
The Problem
is that scooters extremely require you to have both hands on the handles at all times. Like to take one hand off to make some random hand signal would be psychotic, almost guaranteed instant death. So we’re sort of limited.
I have done a lot of searching online and no one else is talking about this or offering suggestions. Some might say this is due to lack of interest, but I assure you it’s just that everyone is paralyzed with fear/indecision about how to solve this problem.
The Solution
I've been experimenting with various options (head nod? coy foot twirl? idk) but here's what I think is our best option:
Keep both hands on the handlebars. Right hand stays gripping the handlebar firmly. On the left hand, extend 4 fingers up and out, while keeping the left thumb securely on the bar.
Why it Works
You still keep both hands on the wheel, averting certain disaster.
It's very subtle, so only other scooterists will likely see/appreciate it.
In its simplicity it holds incredible meaning: Hi, I see you, mutual respect, stay safe out there, how about these assholes on the mopeds, etc.
Next Steps
Not exactly sure how to spread the word about this. Hopefully other people with scooters searching for "secret hand signal for scooters" land here and it just takes off from there. Spread the word.
could you give a rundown on how the bot works...? ive got no idea what it means when it says it needs to set up an api...
Hi!!
I also personally did not know how to set the bot up before but I recommend going on tik tok and searching up Janitor ai tutorial or stuff like that if my description won't be able to help you!
So, you can't talk to the ai if you don't have an API set up, right? So you go on that first blue link when you click open ai and make yourself an account. Than you exit the open ai website and go back to the janitor ai thingy. Than you click the second link and create a key. You copy the link and than paste it into the API link box!
I hope that this helped a little bit.. have a wonderful day or night!! <3
Have an escooter? Please consider wearing a downhill helmet to protect your face
As someone whose relatives have escooters, and someone who has seen a lot of close calls with strangers, I wanna share a little-known bit of advice for anyone who's looking into escooters, or who already has one:
If you're on an escooter, you get the most protection by wearing a downhill or full-face helmet!
DO NOT GO HELMET-LESS!
By 'downhill' or 'full face', I mean the helmets that bmx riders use, or motorcycle riders wear, respectively. It sounds like overkill but here's the thing:
Escooters have a very high center of gravity because you're upright on them, and they have small wheels that don't absorb impact very well. It's super easy to go over your handle bars if you even hit a tiny pothole! According to this study where 212 patients presented to an emergency room, 11.8% of the patients had dental injuries
A lot of these patients presented with facial lacerations and facial fractures. Overall, 44% of patients needed surgery (5.9% needed major surgery and 38.2% needed minor surgery), and 50% needed maxillofacial follow-up
All 212 patients in this study received a head or face injury. 82% of patients didn't wear a helmet

In this Korean study, most patients without a helmet suffered some kind of facial trauma
This isn't just a matter of speed, either. If you're not convinced how often people go over the handlebars at lower speeds too, check out the first 25 seconds of this video by Electric Scooter Guide. That's a lot of faceplants at lower speeds! Or if you want a full playlist of people going over their handlebars, I've got you covered. Again see how many of them are faceplants!
And at higher speeds? It's not good. MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING for gore and death: here you will find a graphic picture of someone who was in an escooter accident, they weren't wearing a helmet and they sadly lost their life
I'll link some reddit posts of close calls where the posters were really glad to be wearing downhill/full face helmets, these are either text-only posts, or simple pics of scratched-up helmets: 1 2 3
Most of these accidents don't even involve other people or vehicles! According to this infographic, 80.2% of escooter accidents are 'falls':
So, now what?
If you don't currently have a helmet and are considering getting one, yay! Your first impulse might be to go out and buy a regular bicycle helmet, but remember: a lot of these injuries happen around your jaw and the front of your face! A bicycle helmet doesn't protect that part! When you fall on an escooter, you're likely to fall in ways that are different from a fall on a bike. So consider a downhill helmet (or a full-face, if you wanna channel your inner motorhead)!
Yeah you'll look dorky, but you'll get home in one piece if you get unlucky on the way there 👍
🔝Well, the era of electric scooters has officially announced a change in mode, let us rock us up 🎖️🎖️🔥
So let's start our self rights.

💫 I just had the chance to try out my friend's Ninebot S MAX, and wow, I'm seriously considering getting one for myself! 🤩 This thing is a game-changer. 💯 It's super smooth, responsive, and the speed is just perfect for zipping around town. 🏙️ Not to mention, it feels incredibly safe and stable even on bumpy roads. 🛣️ Plus, the sleek design is such a head-turner. 👏🏽
so it was announced that there is a janitorai ninebot !!!!! i didn’t even know what it was when it was announced (completely supportive and happy tho) but i did some digging and looked thru how it works.
so it DOES make u pay like 5 bucks per 500 messages if u use openai which is bogus (from what i’ve seen there areee other ways to get around it but it’s way too technical and i’m nawt messing w that). so i haven’t gotten it to work yet on my end !! HOWEVER !
i recently found out that the developers of the site are working on their own ai model to use instead of open and kobold and they’re working to make it free and uncensored, so if ur having any troubles with it like i am hopefully it’ll be a lot easier to navigate whenever they get that up and working :3 in the meantime hav fun guys
