The Blue Brand Wrestling Blog #2 - Some Random Thoughts (Pro-Wrestling NOAH, Toni Storm & Ricky Starks)
The Blue Brand Wrestling Blog
THEBLUEBRANDWRESTLINGBLOG.BLOGSPOT.COM
The Blue Brand Wrestling Blog #2
Some random thoughts (Pro-Wrestling NOAH, Toni Storm & Ricky Starks)
Hey there guys & girls,
I’m Andy Mac, AKA The Blue Brand owner and creator (@The_Blue_Brand) on X / Twitter. I thought I would delve into the world of blog writing and what better thing to write about than my favourite pastime Professional Wrestling.
Today I thought I’d discuss a few random things in the world of Professional Wrestling -
Tumblr media
Pro Wrestling NOAH
First of all, let’s discuss Pro Wrestling NOAH, a company based out of Japan, founded in the year 2000 by former All Japan Pro Wrestling ace Mitsuharu Misawa. My interest in the company first peaked in Autumn 2022 whilst watching Café De René on YouTube. (If you’re not already watching the live streams Rene Dupree and company upload usually around twice a week you’re really missing out.) Stumbling across this channel by chance, I discovered that René had been working in Japan for quite some time and latterly worked for Pro Wrestling NOAH before returning to Canada from Japan. Don't get me wrong, I had heard of the company previously, but never knew where to watch it, the history of the company etc..
I’d been having a little bit of a slump with my enthusiasm for Professional Wrestling at the time – I was tired of watching my Ruthless Aggression playthrough on the WWE Network that I had started during the pandemic in 2020. The current WWE product is hard to watch at times for a fan who has watched religiously through the Attitude Era and the Ruthless Aggression Era. So, this left me with watching podcasts of stars I enjoyed in the past and fondly remembering the old days with YouTube channels like Wrestling Bios. (Another great channel to check out!)
When I noticed the advert for Pro Wrestling NOAH on the end of a Café De René show on YouTube one day, I thought to myself, why not check this out? Pure wrestling, hard and stiff with great storytelling and a roster full of talent.
Three of my favourites that have stood out so far are Kaito Kiyomiya, Kenoh and Naomichi Marufuji. Kiyomiya is a fantastic young talent, my first NOAH match was Kiyomiya Vs Kenoh for the GHC Heavyweight Championship in September 2022. Kenoh, leader of an awesome faction called Kongo came into this match as the champion, in a stiff and hard-fought battle the two men battered each other for 26 minutes before Kiyomiya managed to get the win.
If you’re looking for some great and hard hitting, back and forth action with good story telling then give NOAH a chance. I’ve found it refreshing and I’ve even signed up to Wrestle Universe, an app / website that can be bought for ¥900/month (Just under £5 here in the UK) I’ve been using it this week to catch up on the N-1 VICTORY 2023 from the 3rd September.
If you want to maybe watch a few matches first, get a feel for the company and what it has to offer then I would recommend checking out the Pro Wrestling NOAH Official English Channel on YouTube. It uploads the occasional full-length match on there – Oh, and don’t worry it has English commentary. If you decide to check it out, let me know what you think!
Tumblr media
'The Illustrious’ Toni Storm
Secondly, lets quickly discuss Toni Storm and her recent shift in character on AEW television. Her backstage interviews with Renee Young, Lexy Nair and Tony Schiavone across AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision have been extremely entertaining. She’s nailing it with the change of look, slight change of accent, facial expressions, comedic timing (Bouncing off the interviewer with chemistry, funny moments, and perfect timing – And of course throwing the shoe!) and the creation of an interesting character within the AEW women’s division. I’ll openly admit I’ve only just started paying attention to AEW again in the last few weeks, but Toni Storm has immediately stood out as the best thing going in their women’s division. If they book her right, this incarnation of Toni Storm has a lot of longevity in it – Let’s keep an eye on the illustrious Toni Storm moving forward.
Side note – If there are any other women wrestlers on the AEW roster I’m sleeping on, let me know!
Tumblr media
Ricky Starks
And finally, just a quick note on Ricky Starks. Apart from CM Punk, FTR, Christian Cage and Samoa Joe on AEW Collision, Ricky Starks is the most entertaining and interesting character on the show. With CM Punk now gone (As discussed in my first blog) I’ll be expecting Ricky Starks to become even more prominent. I like his pairing with Big Bill (Big Cass), his segments with Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat were entertaining and his feud with CM Punk was an interesting one, unfortunately due to Punk’s conduct we were robbed of this final showdown. (Regardless, Danielson and Starks had a great match at AEW All Out last weekend)
Presentation is a big part of getting someone over in Professional Wrestling – Quite often I have found AEW are average with this, but I must admit they’ve done a good job with Starks. I like his entrance, it makes him feel like a big deal, a star and someone with a desire and determination to become the best by any means possible. He can talk and looks great. I’m interested to see what’s next for him in AEW.
Anyway, I’ll stop rambling on now. Thanks for checking this second blog out. I’m a self-confessed WWE fanboy, always have been since I started watching WWE as a child. However, as you can hopefully and probably tell I’m trying to broaden by Professional Wrestling palate and horizons. If there is anything else you can recommend I’m open to suggestions. I’m taking a break from my 9-5 office job at the moment and trying to fill my time!
Please leave feedback, if it’s constructive then I’ll always appreciate it. I’m always happy to learn and to become better. Please keep it respectful though, everyone is entitled to an opinion.
Take it easy guys,
Andy

Comparing Knowledge with Dynamite
To compare knowledge with dynamite is a realistic parable, for both can be used for advancement or destruction. Both make tasks more achievable when used wisely and with discretion. A wise person learns how to use dynamite safely, while working to gain knowledge and use it wisely. Both knowledge and dynamite are highly hazardous when put to ill use. Read more:

Team E-Scope as Described by Explosivo
Eva: Dynamite! She's got a short fuse and you know exactly what to get with her. But she also used to be a lot more explosive like when dynamite was just incredibly unstable nitroglycerin. She's worked on her anger issues, and we're all proud of her for it! Destroy people with purpose!
Noah: Land mine! His anger's buried deep down in the ground and can remain dormant for years. Put enough pressure on it? BOOM! An explosion of spite, pettiness, and determination.
Izzy: Azidoazide Azide, the world's most dangerous chemical! It explodes if you touch it! It explodes if you move it! It explodes if you leave it alone for too long! There's no distinction between friend or foe when she goes boom. She only lives for the Boom.

Katsuki Bakugo x Gender Neutral!Reader Angst Hcs
A fic based on July by Noah Cyrus (I am so NOT sorry for this :)
Warnings: Nothing major, just mentions of drinking, implied cheating, and heavy language. Also general angst
A/N: I know a lot of y'all want the next part of Endevour's Secret Daughter and The Spark That Lit His Fuse. I'm working on it I swear, just got a little writer's block. But I promise I'll get it done soon! For now, enjoy this sob fest :))
Tumblr media
I've been holding my breath
I've been counting to ten
Over something you said
The stress of growing as a hero was heavy, of course, you knew, but recently Bakugo seemed to be taking it out on you. When there was a bad mission, he would come home with a hard slam of the door, sparing you nothing but a hard glare. He would push you off and away when you would offer comfort, and when you tried to suggest he take a breath, he raised his voice to you.
“Can you get fuckin lost? Hell, I wish you would stop being so fucking annoying!”
I've been holding back tears
While you're throwing back beers
I'm alone in bed
This wasn’t a once-off either, as now it seemed like he would snap every time you would look at him. You felt like you had to hold your breath every time you were around him. But now, it seemed like everything was only getting worse. At least for a while, he would still come home, but now there were nights where you laid in the cold bed alone for hours until he would come back smelling like sweat and beer... and perfume.
You know I, I'm afraid of change
Guess that's why we stay the same
You knew you could leave, you knew you should. But fuck- something in you just couldn’t handle the thought of losing him. You had been together for so long, you liked the consistency of your relationship. And you didn’t want to feel as if you were giving up. You never gave up. To you, this was all just a hard challenge that you would overcome eventually. This hard roadblock would pass…wouldn’t it?
So tell me to leave
I'll pack my bags, get on the road
If he told you to leave, you would. But you wouldn’t be able to just give up on your own, not while you still felt some semblance of hope that your relationship could survive this.
Find someone that loves you
Better than I do, darling, I know
You wouldn’t be mad if he did decide to leave. Maybe he was right, maybe you weren’t cut out to be the partner of the number two hero. You were quirkless, and went to school for art. You knew nothing about having a special ability or hero work for that matter. Maybe he needed someone who did understand.
'Cause you remind me every day
I'm not enough, but I still stay
“What the hell do you know? You’re quirkless, you’re nothing. You’ll never be able to understand what I’m going through.”
Feels like a lifetime
Just trying to get by while we're dying inside
Six months…you’ve been stuck like this with Bakugo for six months. Nothing has gotten better. The small spark of hope you had for the relationship was slowly fizzling out. Now every bit of this relationship felt like torture. And yet you didn’t go anywhere.
I've done a lot of things wrong
Loving you being one
But I can't move on
You knew there were probably plenty of people in this world for you. But none of them were Katsuki. Maybe falling for him was a mistake. Everyone had warned you whenever news got out that you were dating him. Even his own friends, while teasing, dropped subtle hints.
‘I’m surprised anyone could stand him’
‘I can’t believe he found someone he’s considered worthy’
‘Thanks for putting up with him, I know he can be..a lot’
No matter what they said, you didn’t listen. You could never regret loving Katsuki.
So tell me to leave
I'll pack my bags, get on the road
“You’re too much of a distraction. You’re only holding me back.”
“What are you saying, Kats?”
“...I’m done, Y/N. I need to focus on being number one, not on being your boyfriend.”
Find someone that loves you
Better than I do, darling, I know
‘Dynamite and Uravity, Japan’s new IT Couple’
'Cause you remind me every day
I'm not enough, but I still stay

I love when wrestling makes me laugh and these days it’s almost exclusively the Undisputed Kingdom that makes me laugh, so here are my top three moments from this week‘s Dynamite:
3. They got Adam a wheel chair because why the fuck not?
2. „My best to your girlfriend.“ Noah Anthony Schiavone, you didn‘t? (Srsly, this whole „Adam is mad at Tony because he is Britt‘s dad friend“ thing will never not be funny. Especially because there is a whole fucking interview where Schiavone basically goes: „Yeah Adam actually asked me if I could be supportive and help her with stuff when AEW started because he couldn‘t be there.“)
„Counter Point, you are an idiot.“

39. Write us a poem?
An expensive logo looks like this:
nosediving dove of Noah
olive branch in beak
(atomic bomb already dropped)
plus five letters P E A C E
Hiraoka Kimitake cut open his belly
with a fellow of his
favorite cigarette brand?
indeed it was Peace
One year earlier things were like this
Red Army Faction made an explosive device concocted from these:
metallic cigarette can, pachinko balls and dynamite
Just one word on the bomb,
you already guessed,
white on blue background:
PEACE

Nick's Match Review of the Day #4:
Kenta v. Mitsuharu Misawa (ROH Glory By Honor VI) 11/3/07
Mitsuharu Misawa’s in-ring brilliance simply cannot be understated. Widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, with a case to be made that he’s the greatest of all time, his countless classic matches against career rivals like Toshiaki Kawada and Kenta Kobashi are the stuff of legend. His stints in All Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling NOAH are perhaps some of the greatest runs any wrestler has had in any promotion; the same cannot be said for his brief time in Ring Of Honor. Two matches in the fall of 2007, had in a span of two days, known less so for their excellence and more so for their historical significance.
With that being said, time for a bit of background information. This match against Kenta was only Misawa’s second in Ring of Honor, the first having taken place the day prior at Night 1 of Glory By Honor VI. Before then, he hadn’t wrestled in the United States since a WLW show in 2004. The fact he was even coming to ROH was a pretty big deal. He came into the match in the midst of a third reign as GHC Heavyweight champion, and was right on the heels of crossing a full year with the belt. His opponent, Kenta, wasn’t exactly new to ROH. He had wrestled sixteen prior matches for the promotion, his first having come against Low Ki in 2005. He had unsuccessfully challenged for the ROH World title on two separate occasions in the past, but that night, his focus was on Misawa’s title.
If the quality of a match was judged solely by atmosphere, then this would be a 5-star classic. Even watching it back years later, you can tell just how amped the crowd is to just be able to see Misawa perform in Ring of Honor. It’s a spectacle to behold, hearing the crowd erupt into “This is awesome” chants only three minutes into the match. There’s true historical significance in seeing Misawa compete in an ROH ring, and that creates an unmatched energy within the audience. It’s rare to see crowds this excited just to see a match, the most recent example I can think of being Bryan Danielson v. Kenny Omega from the first AEW Dynamite Grand Slam event back in 2021. Even ignoring the actual in-ring action, the excitement of the crowd alone is tremendously captivating to hear, and for me, that makes the match a whole lot better.
The match itself isn’t bad by any standards, but it can be a bit sluggish at times. It goes without saying that Mitsuharu Misawa was far beyond his prime by 2007. The quality of his wrestling hadn’t taken a hit, but the same couldn’t be said for his athleticism. He was forty-four years old by this point, and lacked much of the same agility he had possessed a decade prior. Simply put: he’s slower and can’t do as much, and that causes the match to, at times, hobble along. Kenta was only twenty-six at the time, and he wrestled at a far more accelerated pace, his movements and mannerisms more swift than those of the aging Ace. This creates a juxtaposition of sorts. Misawa is still able to pull out some impressive spots, though, including a dive to the outside that goes off without a hitch.
Good wrestling held back by physical restraints but elevated by a phenomenal crowd makes this match hard to judge. If I allow myself to sit back and simply enjoy the spectacle this match is, it’s very good. Though, is it fair to judge a match by its atmosphere and not its true quality? I’m not sure, but it should be noted the audience can have a sizable impact on the quality of a match.  I’ve seen many matches ruined by a crowd that's either completely dead or too busy throwing around beach balls and screaming stupid chants, so the importance of an active crowd can’t be understated. But even then, is that enough to carry a match? The short answer is no. However, does this match need to be carried by its crowd? Also no.
All things considered, I enjoy this match. It’s flawed, sure, but it possesses great value just in terms of sheer significance and, in terms of actual in-ring quality, in no way is it anywhere remotely close to being bad. I’d personally say that their match in NOAH from 2004 is a bit better, but only by a little.
⭐⭐⭐. 75 stars out of 5.
