#nobody can figure out when wangxian actually have time to sleep

Modern-day wangxian college AU where they are living in American-style student dorms for, idk, whatever reason (lqr is the president of the university and lwj is a RA to set a good example/get life experience/etc.?)
But they get together and ofc start having wangxian typical sex, frequency and volume included. Except instead of being in a nice, separate, relatively private house, they are in student dorms, with their paper thin walls.
And. Just. What would the other students even do? Can't complain to the RA - lwj is the RA. Can't complain the administration about lwj - he's the president's nephew and everyone not living in the dorm thinks he's a paragon of virtue and righteousness. Can't complain to or about wwx - Everyone Knows(tm) that he, like, killed a dude last semester and is super dangerous (rumors are split as to whether it was self-defense or if he's part of some super-dangerous criminal organization).

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed Episode 19, part two
(Masterpost) (Other Canary Stuff) (Previous Post)
Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Tumblr media
The Man Comes Around
Over at the Wen Indoctrination Tower, which seems to exist just to torture Lan Wangji with stair climbing, Lan Wangji is climbing the stairs. Too bad his cultivation level is too low to be able to just jump up. At least this time his leg isn't broken.
Tumblr media
This is the first vengeful stair-climb in the show, but not the last. (Parallel gifset here).
The Wen guards are stationed all the way at the pinnacle of this tower to guard...what? Why are they not at the bottom of the stairs? What is this location for, actually? This is further up the stairs than the scenes with the indoctrination lectures. Anyway, it's been three months since Wen Chao threw Wei Wuxian into the burial mounds, so naturally these guards are talking about that exact thing as Lan Wangji approaches.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji knocks them all down with a blast from his guqin. Did you know his guqin is named Wangji, by the way? It is. A guy who is that lazy about naming his quqin maybe shouldn't feel so superior to a guy who named his sword "whatever."
(I'm suddenly remembering a plush lamb I had as a child, whose eyes were orange, that I named "orange eyes.") (I, however, was three. And I had a lot of plush lambs. Little ones. Grown-ups found it hilarious to give them to me.) (Native speakers of English can probably guess what OP's real name is. Hint: it rhymes with Canary.) (Everybody else: there is a kid's rhyming song called Mary Had A Little Lamb. OP's name is Mary.)
Tumblr media
Anyhoo, after Lan Wangji is finally finished with his dramatic entrance, Jiang Cheng comes flying in from wherever he's been hovering for the past 20 minutes of stair time. A bunch of Lan sidekicks also flood into the frame from wherever they were hiding during the wide shots of LWJ on the staircase.
Tumblr media
In case you hope that CQL Lan Wangji is as much of a top (offscreen) as MZDS Lan Wangji is (on the page), here's a gif for you.
(more after the cut)
He uses the patented Lan string attack to choke this guard.  Lan Wangji doesn't have to hold a guqin string in his hands to choke someone with it. He doesn't even have to tighten it, judging by how absurdly not-tight this string is.
Tumblr media
Or maybe this guy is choking on the chin strap of his helmet. This is exactly how OP's son reacts when OP sticks a bike helmet on him. (Note: it's GOOD that they are following choking safety protocols on set. Very good. However, they could have just left the string out and pretended, and it would look better, in this instance)
The Wen guard tells Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng about the whole "thrown into the burial mounds" thing.  Team Let's Find Wei Wuxian is not happy to hear this.
Tumblr media
A Vengeful Ghost
Meanwhile, in some Wen office somewhere? Where the hell is this? Yiling, we get an ominous shot of the rooftops where Wei Wuxian is lurking and then we see Wang Lingjiao trying to sleep and having a nightmare.
Tumblr media
Wang Lingjiao has gone to sleep with a full face of makeup on instead of washing her face before bed. She has forgotten the important maxim, Go To Sleep Pretty, Wake Up Zitty.
She leaps out of bed to go cling to Wen Chao and freak out about Wei Wuxian's ghost. Wen Chao is trying to read the sports section and has clearly had enough of this crap. This has presumably been going on for a little while now.
Tumblr media
Wang Lingjiao is in a new outfit, which is...pajamas? It has the feel of a 1930's French peignoir set, and it's much more softly colored than her usual bright red-purple combo. If this is her pajamas is it weird that her day clothes are a lot more aggressively sexy-looking than her nightgown? A freak in the streets but a lady in the sheets.
Wen Chao rants about the Sunshot Campaign and talks some smack about Wen Qing, and then leaves to go to the bar and watch the game with Wen Zhuliu. After he leaves Wang Lingjiao freaks out for a bit and then looks at the notice he was reading.
The notice basically says that the Sunshot Campaign is kicking their ass. She should be proud for inspiring the name of the campaign with that kite-shooting bullshit she made up at Lotus Pier. Before slaughtering everyone.
Tumblr media
No Matter What You Do, I Only Want To Be With You
Back at the Indoctrination Tower, Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng are having feelings about Wei Wuxian. Jiang Chang does all the talking but Lan Wangji's thoughts are louder because a sad violin is playing Wangxian while they talk.
Jiang Cheng tells Lan Wangji about their meetup plan and says he thought WWX had dumped him to go find Lan Wangji in Lanling. Lan Wangji telepathically indicates that this didn’t happen. This means two things: 1. Lan Wangji has been hanging out in Lanling, where Jiang Yanli has been hanging out, so maybe they have bonded over the past 3 months and 2. This is the first time Jiang Cheng has talked to Lan Wangji since Wei Wuxian disappeared.
Much as my fic-loving heart would like to believe these two spent three months on the road together looking for Wei Wuxian, in fact they are both important high-level fighters in an active military campaign, and Lan Wangji was busy taking back the Cloud Recesses while Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian were having elective surgery. They probably both were assigned to the "Indoctrination Bureau" mission and this is the first chance they've had to talk about Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
Is it heartbreaking that, while Wei Wuxian was helplessly getting his ass beat because he'd sacrificed his golden core for Jiang Cheng, Jiang Cheng believed Wei Wuxian had abandoned him for Lan Wangji? Yes. Yes it is.
For some reason Jiang Cheng is hesitant to believe that Wei Wuxian really was thrown into the Burial Mounds. I mean, I understand not wanting to believe Wei Wuxian is dead, but given that Wen Chao is the dude who oversaw the massacre of all of the people at Lotus Pier, including kids, why would Jiang Cheng think his guards are wrong? Maybe he just feels like Wei Wuxian is invincible, since so far he kinda has been.
The Sword is Mightier Than Not Having a Sword
Tumblr media
While they've been chatting, the Lan disciples have found their swords. One disciple is holding Bichen (LWJ's sword), Sandu (JC's sword), and OP consults wiki Suihua (Jin Zixuan's sword). Another disciple is holding Subian (WWX's sword).
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng grabs Sandu while the Lan disciples, who apparently know their gongzi’s heart, offer Wei Wuxian's sword to Lan Wangji.
Lan Wangji takes Subian (Bichen: What am I, chopped watercress?) and immediately tries to draw it. Like you don't do. It's sealed itself, which apparently means that it's upset. It's unclear if it's upset because Wei Wuxian is dead or if it just misses him, however.
Lan Wangji definitely misses him, and wonders, out loud inside his own head, where Wei Wuxian is. Um, he's in the Burial Mounds, dude, they just told you. Well, I guess he's actually in Yiling proper at this point, haunting Wang Lingjiao as he promised her he would.
Tumblr media
Twa Corbies
The scene shifts to Qinghe, where there are about 12 dead bodies lying around, which in this show means that there are really a few hundred. In fact, per Jiang Yanli's statement "nothing can be seen but corpses covering the plains." The camera can't see most of them, is all.
Wen Xu's head is hanging in the doorway, and the Jins talk about how Nie Mingjue killed him, cutting his head off with just one swing. Is this foreshadowing anything, like perhaps someone else's head being cut off by Baxia in just one swing? Nope, definitely not.
A couple of crows are perched on a body, totally not eating it, but Jin Zixuan gallantly zaps them with a talisman to make them fly away anyway.  It might be noteworthy that nobody used to use talismans but gradually more and more people are using them - particularly people who have spent time with Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
With mony a lock of his golden hair-o, we’ll theek our nest when it grows bare-o
Asshole cousin Jin Zixun says “scavenger rights,” so Jin Zixuan puts him in charge of collecting all the bodies.
Since OP just finished watching fur-collar-happy Nirvana in Fire, these crows look to me like they are wearing luxurious fur collars. Where OP lives, crows are not this fancy.
A Romantic Corpse-Filled Interlude
Tumblr media
Disaster het Jin Zixuan goes to help Jiang Yanli get out of the carriage but she rejects his hand just like he rejected hers back in Gusu.
Tumblr media
Jiang Yanli is extremely shocked when she sees Wen Xu's severed head, and turns away in horror, preferring to calmly rest her eyes on dozens of crow-pecked corpses.
Jin Zixuan tries to comfort her and she tells him she'll be going now, thanks for the hospitality. He tries to say that he has to personally deliver her to a representative of the patriarchy one of her brothers, but then one of her brothers shows up.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng arrive, having presumably flown there from Qishan. They show that they are flying by blowing a fan on the ground and then jumping off of a box, which is better than the effects we were subjected to earlier in the episode.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng rushes over to have an emotional reunion with Jiang Yanli, while Lan Wangji rushes over to have an emotional reunion with Wen Xu’s severed head. Jin Zixuan kind of spoils it for him by talking about Wei Wuxian's absence while Lan Wangji is trying to have a moment.
Tumblr media
The whole time Jin Zixuan is talking to him, Lan Wangji appears to be gazing into the middle distance but in fact he is staring at Wen Xu's severed head. This is the guy who led the burning of Cloud Recesses, killed a bunch of disciples, and personally broke Lan Wangji's leg. Lan Wangji stares at his head for more than a full minute before glancing away.
Tumblr media
Jiang Yanli hasn't seen Jiang Cheng since they were in Wen Qing's clinic, and she is happy he's recovered. When she asks about Wei Wuxian he gives her the bad news in the classic Jiang fashion, which is to say nothing, but look stricken until your interlocutor figures out that something is horribly wrong, but not precisely what.
Four Angry Men
Tumblr media
Inside the fortress, Nie Mingjue is slapping the table and saying, this bad boy can hold so much resentment and vengeance. They're having a mini war council and we're getting a better sense of Nie Mingjue's anger management problem. Note for those who don't get the gif reference: this is a The Godfather joke, not a sex joke, but it can be both, if you like.
Tumblr media
We're also getting a little more info about Baxia, who seems to be eager to go fight even without anyone wielding it. (Her? Him? Them? do swords have gender? I don't know). Well done, person below the camera frame whose job is to rattle Baxia in a menacing manner.
They've got a giant model of the battle targets, which looks like it was carved out of real rock (I mean, as much as any of the rocks on this show look like real rocks) and has its own table and everything, decorated in Nie colors. Where was this before they took Qinghe back? Has Nie Mingjue been traveling with it?
Tumblr media
Anyway, I'm assuming Nie Huaisang made it, because it's pretty nice. Hopefully they will keep it around for tabletop gaming after the war is over.
Jiang Cheng is upset but is using his anger management mantra to help control his temper while Jin Zixuan and Lan Wangji talk with Nie Mingjue.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji talks by leaning forward meaningfully, mostly not by using any words, but he asks for a battle assignment and Jiang Cheng immediately joins in. They both want to go find Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
Nie Mingjue says Yiling is too difficult of a target, but Lan Wangji puts on his determined face, which is apparently very persuasive.
After Team Find Wei Wuxian leaves, Nie Mingjue asks Jin Zixuan to hang back so he can ask him how Meng Yao is doing. This is the first time he finds out that his ex didn't go to Lanling. Jin Zixuan tries to delicately remind him that Dad's got, like, SO many bastard children, they really don't have space for all of them. Nie Mingjue dismisses him immediately and abruptly.
Tumblr media
Nie Mingjue might invite the straights to his party but he isn't interested in actually socializing with them.
Unconditional Soup is Only for A-Xian
Jiang Cheng can't sleep, and takes some time, now, to be sad about Wei Wuxian. Presumably he spent the prior 3 months being mad, not sad, because he really thought he just buggered off without saying anything for all that time. Which is sort of fair, but sort of not. One thing about these two bros is that for as close as they have been and as much as they love each other, their mutual understanding has some big, messy gaps.
Tumblr media
Fortunately while he is feeling sad, Jiang Cheng does not try to draw Subian from its sheath, because wouldn't THAT be awkward.
Tumblr media
Jiang Yanli can't sleep either, and comes to sit with him. Jiang Cheng feels bad that she's wearing herself out with worry and she says "As your sister, I have nothing to do but to worry about you." Jiang Yanli isn't one to complain but she doesn't like being inactive or helpless. In Lanling she was far from the war, but now that she's in Qinghe she'll make herself useful by tending the wounded, and later she'll help Jiang Cheng shoulder his responsibilities as he takes over the Jiang clan.
Tumblr media
At the moment, however, all she can do is fret and make soup. As she gives Jiang Cheng a bowlful she reminds him that he absolutely has to rescue their brother who has, according to his captors, been reduced to bone dust.
Tumblr media
With all the impossible shit that Jiang Cheng is expected to achieve - and in many instances, does achieve - he is absolutely the embodiment of the Jiang Clan's motto. Fuck his father for disrespecting him because he hadn't figured out how to do everything by the age of 16.
Definitely Not Chilling in Yiling
Back in Yiling, Wen Chao is hearing the news that the Qishan Indoctrination Bureau has fallen and that he's being called back to Nightless City. Wen Chao says he shouldn't need to go back because his dad has a new right-hand man. That new right-hand man, we will eventually learn, is Meng Yao. Wang Lingjiao, meanwhile, is hiding under the bed covers and deciding it's time to dump Wen Chao.
Tumblr media
She locks the door and goes to pull out her jewelry box, which is locked and hidden under the bed. Maybe this is Wen Chao's jewelry box, because she acts kind of squirrely about opening it. Upon opening the jewelry box, she doesn't find jewelry but a pair of bloody fake eyeballs staring at her.  She screams and freaks out and then the wind picks up and we hear the sound of a flute, playing the "I'm here to fuck your shit up" tune that Wei Wuxian likes.
Wang Lingjiao runs to the door and pulls down the protection talisman that's pasted above it, and pastes it directly to her chest instead, which is, we will learn in the next episode, the worst idea she could possibly have at this point.
Tumblr media
Then she uses a poking stick to go flip the jewelry box open and finds it's full of ugly-ass jewelry again, plus an improbable number of weird round paper-mache biscuits that have been painted gold. None of this jewelry looks anything like the exquisite accessories people wear in this show, which means this stash was put together by the practical effects department, not by the costume department.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Wang Lingjiao apparently thinks she can sell this fakeass stuff for a good price, so more power to her. But then we get a short glimpse of the menacing eyeballs again, this time on the floor, having moved out of the box and brought their little blood pool with them. Screeching ensues.
Next episode: Lady in Red!
Soundtrack: Twa Corbies, by Steeleye Span

“What does that mean?” Wei Wuxian asked. “Have you thought about it?”
“Wei Ying wants that?” Lan Wangji met his gaze, his eyebrows raised.

Thing was… it wasn’t such a bad idea.

The Untamed, episode 45 - watching notes
I'm at this stage of fandom rn where it's really hard to concentrate on anything else 😅
Every song I listen to gets dissected for how it relates to wangxian
I need to concentrate on my thesis but instead I'm pondering how the untamed raises questions about collectivism vs individualism and how my western perception of that might differ greatly from a native chinese person or even the author's intention
Can't I just write my thesis about THAT?
Alas, I digress ...
Back to our regular programming :D
Last time one Sophie watches the untamed wwx went all Sherlock on us and used his formidable skills of deduction to expose Backpfeifengesicht's plan of killing everyone and blaming it on wwx
I've heard from several people that the next few episodes are their favourites, so no high expectations at all :D
Nobody wipes the blood on their chins away. Might be about the aesthetic
I adore detective-duo-wangxian so much!! Especially because wwx does 99% of the talking but then lwj will chime in with a single word and it's 100% devastating :D
If anyone knows any well written case-fics for these two, please, I need recs! (For after the show)
Backpfeifengesicht makes good one point and that is that jgy already is at the top of the cultivation world. So what does he gain from all this?
Or is it simply that he's afraid of wwx because he's a rebel and might act against him? (Don't answer that. I wanna find out through the show ;))
Wwx just casually revealed that he's been to cloud recess and that he handles went to the restricted section forbidden chamber. What will you do about, Lan Qiren? Huh? 😂
Oooh! Backpfeifengesicht is the ghosted faced man! I thought it was Jiggy himself!!! 😱
That makes way more sense though!
Lan Sizhui! Jin Ling! Oh you brave boys! 😭
Tumblr media
Someone hold me 😭
But why does he not take zidian now? He's done so before!
"You little fool!" Is "I love you" in Jiang-Cheng-speak :D
"We're done for! What can we do??" - wwx *strips*
Tumblr media
Sorry
Bahahaha 😂😂😂
I just burst out laughing waaay to loudly for the fact that I've got people sleeping in the room next to mine
But look at Lan Qiren when he sees wwx strop to reveal anat is probably his nephew's undershirt 😂😂😂
Tumblr media
He's probably questioning every decision that's let him to this point :D
Tumblr media
This is completely inconsequential, but I couldn't keep quiet about it anymore because I every time he makes this motion, it always sends a shiver down my spine!!! Notice that wwx (or rather Xiao Zhan) is one of these people whose fingers bend in the opposite direction??? I know it's just a normal thing some people can do, but I can't watch it!! It makes my fingers hurt just looking at it 🙈🙈🙈
Is he turning himself into a demon lure flag?? 😱
Lan Jingyi 🥺🥺🥺
Also does wwx now just transfer his self-sacrificing tendencies to lwj?
Nothing is as hot as these two together in a fight scene
Jiang Cheng doesn't want to leave them behind. He does care! :') he just never unlearned how to unravel his love from his anger
Sizhui running up to greet his dads :')
Tumblr media
Look at them! I'm soft guys 💔
He called him Yuan!! 😭😭😭
So this is it. Any doubts I ever had about Sizhui's identity are gone
Will he finally recognize him??
Why don't you say anything lwj? This one time, I beg you!!
Sect Leader Yao still at his gossip shit even 16 years later 🙄
Lam sizhyi is seasick! Why is this so cute! 😭
Oh Wen Ning!! He recognized A-Yuan? Right?
I want to hug Lan Sizhui for his openness and kindness towards everyone he meets, no matter their status or what other people say about them! (Wen Ning now or who he thought was Mo Xuanyu the supposed mad-man) and I wanna hug lan Wangji right after for raising him to be like this :')
Oh Wen Ning! 😭
That's how I'd look at Sizhui, too, if I met him - poor unadulterated wonder :')
And just think about what that means for Wen Ning! He's not the last of the Wens! All their fight wasn't for nothing. This child, their legacy, survived 😭😭😭
"Can I call you A-Yuan" "Of Course." God I'm gonna burst into tears 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm actually bursting into tears!!
Isn't this the dream of anyone who has ever lost someone? :')
"He's like a brother and father to me" :')
And he raised him from when he was 4 or 5? So ... A-Yuan was about 2 when the Wens died? Right? Then 5 would fit with lwj's 3 year isolation
Ob god, it's the butterfly-toy!!! 😭😭😭
Wen Nings smiling through his tears! I can't! 😭💔And he's got the one from the market!
Aww, wax isn't wearing the white undergarment anymore. Too bad
Oh poor Jin Ling ...
So much grieve that he could probably never process. There so many lost kids in this story, hurt by things they had no control over 😔
I mean, I get it. That's the person who killed his parents (without being in control, but he doesnt know that) and everyone is just talking to him as if it's normal and that didn't happen. But he can't forget, but he doesnt really understand either and he has no outlet. Of course he'd just ... crash 😥
And who would have thought I'd ever try at a flashback of Jin Zixuan's death :(
For once, it'd be nice if the adults actually acted like the parent figures they're supposed to be and explain things to their children 🤦‍♀️
I'm so thankful though, that no one even thinks of scolding him for crying. Jismg Cheng only asked who it was that made him cry (and looks like he'll kick their ass). Generally, thus show has a very healthy attitude towards tears. Most characters cry when they are faced with tragedy, regardless of gender. Men being allowed to have appropriate reactions to grieve (instead of a single men tear or just punching things) is really nice to see
Oh Yao dude whose courtesy name I can't remember, shut up!
Tumblr media
Thanks Ouyang Zizhen! You get me
I live for these children standing up to their elders
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Nie Huaisang is just on the sidelines, enjoying the show :D never change!
The Lotus Pier theme song alone is making me cry rn 😢
Why can't wen Ning come in?
Oh Sizhui!
He many times do you want to make me cry happy tears today?? :')
Little turnip-baby ❤
Tumblr media
But why doesn't lwj say anything ??? 😭
Lan Wangji raised A-Yuan smong a bunch of rabbits??? 😭
Now he's a turnip baby with a taste for carrots, how cute is that? :')
Holy shit, wwx and lwj are really joined at the hip these days of lwj won't enter the hall if wwx isn't allowed to :D
Lwj 😑 "no misbehaviour"
Someone. Knows. Their. Husband.
Okay sorry, but as painful as these cuts must have been and yes, while you do see scars on this prostitute's face, they in no way warrant these horrified gasps as of they had all seen a monster 🙄
Xue yang. Fancy seeing you here in this not at all disturbing sub-plot 😬
Okay that's creepy. That's really creepy
Shouldn't Jin Guangyao have a bit more compassion for these women?
On the other hand, he was born to menacingly stand behind a curtain 🤷‍♀️
W. T. F. ????
Jin Guangshan??? o___O
That's the most skin we've ever seen on this show and it's in a scene like THIS? 😬
THIS IS HOW JIN GUANGSHAN DIED? 😱😱😱
How?
How can you die from sex?
And then jgy made them keep going?
UGH
These poor women :/
So there's someone who set her free on purpose, right?
Bicao has really interesting eyes!
Oh wait, took me some time to catch up. This is about Quin Su and why she killed herself, right?
WHAT??
They were siblings o_O
They just went full game of thrones on this ...
Hey Jin Guangshan, screw you for raping that woman
Wait, is that why jgy had him die like THAT?
I'm so confused about how that happened btw
But why would Jin Guangyao merry quin su anyway? Was this some kind of political marriage that he couldn't call off?
This episode answered some of my questions but raised about a dozen more 😅
@sweetlittlevampire @fandom-glazed @elenirlachlagos @allhailthedramallama @luckymoony @kyrrahbird @i-love-him-on-purpose
5 episodes to go. I'm both happy because I can't wait to brows the untamed tag without looking for spoilers and extremely sad 🥺
Right now I'm planning to watch one episode each day until friday and then watch the last two on Saturday, hopefully quite early, so I can spend the rest of the day crying my eyes out over it, without having to worry about such trivial things as being a functioning adult or a responsible student 😅

The various MDZS fans // Under The Magnifying Glass
Alright, fans! As a fellow fan, I know you’re out there - I’ve lurked, I’ve chatted with, and I’ve disturbed a great many of you. Now I’m going to treat you like a specimen, and you can’t escape!
I’ve compiled a short meta piece about the various fans in the MDZS fandom, one that should be taken, once again, with a grain of salt. You know I love all of you, but here’s a sprinkle of, “I see you, I’m calling you out”. 😉
This is by no way accurate, obviously, but I hope you’ll enjoy it!
Wei Ying fans are shameless
And they tend to be more open in the real world than most other fans in comparison. Cheerful and belligerent, these fans are the ones who’ll loudly push their agenda and rope you into the slippery, slippery rabbit hole of the MDZS fandom, shouting about how “LAN ZHAN IS THE MOST WONDERFUL BOYFRIEND.”
You’d look into what a Lan Zhan is, and fall into the trap of Xianxia hell, unable to claw your way out of it until you’ve completed at least forty different works, either in paint or in letter. This is when they’ll cackle and attempt to figure out what your AO3 username is.
When dealing with Wei Ying fans in the real world, consider employing a milder approach. Do not allow them influence you into making more explicit fanfiction than you probably should, if you can. Apply caution in public, for they can be extremely boisterous in their sharing of many overly-stimulating pictures with your friends who may not know or want to know what WangXian is about.
Lan Wangji fans
Are Wei Ying fans. No person who can directly relate to Lan Wangji would read a BL light novel like that.
Or they do, but you just don’t know it.
Lan Xichen fans
Secretly want to sleep with him.
Jin Guangyao fans are social animals
When they’re not sobbing over their coveted redemption arcs for their favorite character, or coming up with excuses reasons for his misconduct, that is.
Small gatherings are likely to be favored by fans who relate to Jin Guangyao, enjoying parties and the like that are quiet and easy to mingle in. It is either this, or they enjoy in-depth online discussions, mostly involving intrigue and character building or thesis, and spend much time on social media networks.
More than half the time, people in the real world don’t even know that Jin Guangyao fans read fanfiction, look at fanart, or create them. At least 80 to 90 percent of Jin Guangyao fans would have read the novel, since they are more or less discourse and/or research-driven.
Just like the two-faced Jin Guangyao, many fans of his hide their true nature very well, appearing in public as general mass-media consumers. However, upon further engagement, they may reveal themselves to the possible Er-ge’s in their lives.
Jiang Cheng fans are mama dragons
Whatever you do, don’t make them angry.
This doesn’t mean that they’re not sympathetic, however. Its just that their quick tempers and fiery typing skills can break your e-legs. Whether it’s a disagreement about a pairing, or about an interpretation, they’ll want to come up on top and victorious.
On the flip side, if a Jiang Cheng fan favors you and you’ve gotten into a spot of trouble, they’ll be out there on a war path trying to find out who bullied you in an attempt break the perpetrator’s legs. Using their keyboard typing skills, of course.
Lan Sizhui fans are anxious helicopter parents
Generally wishing to keep their little baby A-Yuan safe and happy, Lan Sizhui fans are mostly mama bear types. If a piece features even a miniscule part about Lan Sizhui, say, falling down in the mud or getting told off in an argument, be sure to receive comments almost entirely about said scene, even though it may only be a minor part of an entire 10,000-word story.
Stories and art revolving around Lan Sizhui put out by his fans are most likely to include either carrots, rabbits, radishes, Uncle Ning, or the WangXian parents. Similar to Jin Ling, Lan Sizhui fans tend to be fans of Wei Ying or WangXian.
A smaller subset of Lan Sizhui fans are fans of Jin Ling, but mostly in context of Lan Sizhui being the only one courteous enough to be polite towards him.
Jin Ling fans are split between two types
Namely those who’ve always dreamed of being a little prince/princess, and those who relate to Jiang Cheng or Wei Wuxian.
More than half of Jin Ling’s fans are fans of his uncle Jiang and Wei, and may relate to them in terms of being a parental figure, looking over their emotionally injured baby prince. Wei Wuxian fans are louder when it comes to demanding for a happy ending for Jin Ling, while Jiang Cheng fans may explicitly include him in every piece of fanfiction or fanart they’ve ever created.
Whether Wei Wuxian has started a family with Lan Wangji, or Jiang Cheng has gotten married to Lan Xichen or Nie Huaisang, you can be sure that any intersecting Jin Ling fans would have included him in their grand scheme of adoption, or eventually have him married to their only-begotten son.
The ones who’ve always dreamed of being a little prince or princess? They have very few friends in real life, and may have just written an article about you since they had the free time, for having no one to socialize with.
Ouyang Zizhen fans don’t like to be left out
He’s part of the quartet, dammit! It’s not a trio! Be it to your face in real life or over the internet, Zizhen fans would be sure to remind you that he’s part and parcel of the junior unit.
Usually also helicopter parents of the Sizhui Fan variety, Ouyang Zizhen fans desire him to find romance and inherit the sect safely, and may prefer pieces that depict him as intelligent, resourceful and the leader or champion of the junior QUARTET.
Lan Jingyi fans
Are the worst. 😤🖐️
Wen Ning fans are elusive
Likely because they don’t want to be the reason to split the canon couple up. Most Wen Ning fans may or may not prefer stories where Wen Ning pines for the extremely unavailable Wei Wuxian, or ones where he is seen as an uncle figure to Lan Sizhui. In some stories and artworks, Lan Wangji simply does not exist.
Wen Ning fans may also be periphery Lan Sizhui fans.
Wen Qing fans suffer from Aerith Lives Syndrome
She doesn’t actually die in a fire, guys!
They may also enjoy Wen Qing-marries-Nie Mingjue/Jiang Cheng-and-gets-pregnant stories.
Nie Huaisang fans like his nefarious, scheming nature
Have a piece depicting Nie Huaisang as a head-shaking idiot? There’s a fat chance that his fans won’t enjoy it, even if they won’t explicitly grill you for it. Hiding behind their virtual fans, watching you persistently every day while coldly plotting the closure of your account, these fans in particular are more inclined towards the unfolding of his crafty, terrifying nature, revealed only in the end.
Nie Huaisang fans tend to favor articles revolving around Nie Mingjue as well, and greatly enjoy pieces depicting brotherly affection in general. Whenever they write Nie Mingjue in their fiction, he is either extremely doting, or gruff but sexy.
As one might find it hard to question the gruff but sexy bit with a straight face, another alternative victim of fiction writers centering works around Nie Huaisang would be Jiang Cheng, who is usually manipulated into a happily ever after.
Nie Mingjue fans like putting him in leather pants
In most works created by fans of the mighty Chifeng-Zun, he’s usually smiling dotingly at his younger brother, Nie Huaisang, or at Meng Yao, his trusted aide, or at least giving them the best things in life.
In Mingjue County, Nie Mingjue has never kicked anyone down the stairs nor called them a son of a prostitute. In Mingjue County, nobody has ever burnt fine art. In Mingjue County, nobody dies of Qi Deviation. Mingjue County is civil, beautiful, and full of abs.
Wen Ruohan fans think he’s cute and sexy
Well, he is in their fannish pre-canon depictions of him as a young man, anyway. If Lan Qiren has grown his beard out for anyone, it would have been for the adorable Wen Ruohan, fifty years ago in the Cloud Recesses.
Lan Qiren fans don’t think he’s a joke
Never mind that the novel jokes about him all the time - having his beard shaved by Cangse Sanren, ignored by the juniors, and above all, getting up just to spit out blood after getting mad at Wei Wuxian for playing his flute very, very badly - he’s no joke, everyone!
Many Lan Qiren fans may also express desire to see his character adapt and open up to new ideas and rulesets, including a relationship with Sisi, or to explore a possible past where he is young, handsome and sexy, most probably also romantically entwined with Wen Ruohan.
Sect Leader Yao fans are SJWs who don’t know they’re SJWs
The irony lies thick in the fact that they actively dislike Sect Leader Yao as a character. Nobody knows that they’re actually a Sect Leader Yao fan, even after contracting the disease themselves.
Aaaaaand, I’ve run out of gas. If I’ve missed describing the fans of your favorite character, consider yourself lucky~
For now. I’ll be back! 😒✊

Wangxian Week Day 1:  Modern AU, Longing
Lan Zhan didn’t realize his feelings for Wei Ying right away. It had taken him a few months to figure it out.
Lan Zhan first met Wei Ying in elementary school. They were both in grade 5 and ended up in the same class. Wei Ying loved teasing Lan Zhan in any way possible.
One time, he braided his hair in class while the other was focused on the lesson. Lan Zhan’s ears had burned a bright red and he had called him pathetic before leaving as quickly as possible to head to the washroom to fix his long hair. It didn’t help that Wei Ying had braided a few flowers he had found at recess in there as well.
Another time, Wei Ying had decided to give Lan Zhan a haircut, saying his hair was too long. This had led to a fight between the two which shocked everyone since nobody expected little Lan Zhan to ever take part in a fight.
Needless to say, one wouldn’t expect Lan Zhan to actually enjoy Wei Ying’s company, let alone like him.
It was months later when their class went on a camping trip. It was only a two day trip, but the students were all excited. When they got there, they were assigned their cabins. Wei Ying was in a cabin with his adoptive brother, Jiang Cheng, his friends, Wen Ning and Nie Huaisang, his enemy, Jin Zixuan, and Lan Zhan.
The first day of the trip went smoothly, Wei Ying not getting into too much trouble, but that night, Wei Ying decided to sneak off once everyone fell asleep.
Wei Ying couldn’t sleep, so he decided to go on a walk. He thought he was being quite enough, but Lan Zhan woke up to the little noise he was making. Lan Zhan followed him outside and after a bit, confronted him.
“It’s against the rules to be walking around at night,” was all he said.
Not expecting this, Wei Ying jumped and turned around to find Lan Zhan on the path behind him.
Wei Ying sighed in relief, “Oh good, it’s just you Lan Zhan.”
Lan Zhan walked up to Wei Ying and repeated himself, “It’s against the rules to be walking around at night.”
“Oh Lan Zhan, why do you need to follow the rules? What’s the harm in a little walk?”
“It’s against the rules.”
Wei Ying sighed, “Look Lan Zhan, I get it, but I couldn’t sleep. I figured a little walk would help me clear my head and help me sleep.”
Lan Zhan looked at him with his same blank expression before nodding with a “mnn.”
Shocked by this turn of events, Wei Ying quickly grabbed Lan Zhan’s arm. “Do you wanna walk with me?” his eyes sparkled as he asked.
Lan Zhan gasped lightly before nodding once more.
Wei Ying dragged Lan Zhan along as he continued walking down the path. Eventually, they reached a clearing. From that clearing, they saw the most beautiful view of the night sky.
“Lan Zhan, let’s lie down out here for a bit and watch the stars,” Wei Ying said excitedly.
“Mnn.”
Wei Ying and Lan Zhan laid down in that field and watched the stars for hours. It was at that time, watching Wei Ying’s sparkling eyes and brilliant smile, that Lan Zhan realized his feelings. Lan Zhan liked Wei Ying.
After that night, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying had become closer. They ended up becoming good friends, Wei Ying being Lan Zhan’s first friend. Wei Ying still liked to tease Lan Zhan a lot, but he didn’t pull stunts like cutting his hair anymore.
Wei Ying and Lan Zhan were now in high school and were in a class together once more. Wei Ying sat beside Lan Zhan every class, partnered up with him all the time, and just loved being around him.
Lan Zhan loved being around Wei Ying as well, but at the same time, he didn’t. Whenever they were together, he just wanted to hold him, kiss him. He accepted that it wouldn’t happen long ago and was happy he could still be by his side, even as a friend. It still hurt knowing that he couldn’t have Wei Ying though.
It was a normal day, like any other, when Wei Ying came up to Lan Zhan.
“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, did you here? There’s a party at the peacock’s place tonight!”
Lan Zhan looked at him for a moment before shaking his head.
“Come, Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying laughed excitedly.
“No.”
“What? Why not?” Wei Ying whined as he wrapped his arms around Lan Zhan’s own.
“It’s a school night,” was Lan Zhan’s response.
“Lame,” Wei Ying pouted as he let go of Lan Zhan and crossed his arms, “I was hoping you’d come with me. I’ve never seen you at a party.”
Lan Zhan just stared at him with that same blank expression.
“Please Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying pleaded, “I can help set you up with a pretty girl.”
“No.”
“Why? You never have a girlfriend. Why not get one?”
Lan Zhan looked blankly at Wei Ying, “Don’t want.”
“You’re no fun Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying huffed, “Well, you’re coming, even if I have to drag you there myself. Even your brother is going.”
Lan Zhan just turned around and walked off.
“Are you sure you don’t want to come Lan Zhan? I think Wei Ying really wants you to come, Lan Huan, Lan Zhan’s older brother asked.
Before Lan Zhan could answer his brother, the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it,” Lan Huan said before heading down the stairs.
After a few moments, Lan Huan called to his brother, “Lan Zhan, come down stairs. You have a guest.”
Lan Zhan walked down the stairs only to find Wei Ying there.
“Aren’t you going to the party?” Lan Zhan asked Wei Ying, confused.
“Of course I am, but I’m not going without you,” Wei Ying giggled.
Lan Zhan shook his head at that, but Wei Ying wasn’t having any of it.
Wei Ying grabbed Lan Zhan’s arm. “Oh no you don’t. I told you I’d drag you there if I have to.”
Lan Zhan could hear his brother quietly laughing behind him, but chose to ignore him.
Eventually, he allowed Wei Ying to start dragging him out the door. Before they could get far though, Lan Huan called out, “Do you two want a ride?”
“No thanks, I think I wanna walk with Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying called back.
Lan Huan just shook his head in amusement at the two. “When are they finally going to get together?” he asked himself.
They had been at the party for quite a while now and Wei Ying had already had a fair amount to drink, but he still couldn’t convince Lan Zhan to have any. Instead, all he had had was some water.
“Please Lan Zhan, just one shot. I won’t bug you for anymore,” Wei Ying whined.
Lan Zhan looked at the shot Wei Ying had shoved into his hands and after a moment of hesitation, downed the shot in one go.
“Wow Lan Zhan! You actually did it! Great!”
Hearing Wei Ying’s shouts, Lan Huan looked over at his brother in worry, “Oh no. This isn’t good.”
From his lap, Jiang Cheng looked over at where his gaze was set, “What’s wrong?”
“My brother just took a shot,” was all he said.
“What’s wrong with tha-, oh... Are all you Lans such lightweights?”
“Ah, yes.”
“Yeah, that’s not good then.” Jiang Cheng agreed.
“Lan Zhan, are you feeling alright?”
Lan Zhan groaned and stumbled a bit, Wei Ying having to catch him.
“Let’s go find somewhere for you to rest.”
“Mnn.” Lan Zhan agreed.
Soon enough, Wei Ying found a small guest room where he dragged Lan Zhan in and helped him sit down on the bed. Almost immediately, Lan Zhan passed out onto Wei Ying’s shoulder.
“I can’t believe you’re such a lightweight Lan Zhan. I was so excited to see you drunk too. I can’t believe you just fell asleep,” Wei Ying complained to himself as he lay Lan Zhan down on the bed gently.
Wei Ying just combed his hands through Lan Zhan’s hair as he slept, humming a random tune to himself as he did so.
After a few moments of this, Lan Zhan sat up, startling Wei Ying who quickly moved his hands away from Lan Zhan’s hair. He appeared as if he were sober once more.
Wei Ying groaned, “Lan Zhan? Seriously? Did you really just skip the being drunk stage and go straight to sleeping and then being sober?”
Lan Zhan didn’t say anything as he looked at Wei Ying. He grabbed Wei Ying in a tight embrace, holding Wei Ying’s head against his chest.
“Uh, Lan Zhan? What are you doing?”
“Listen,” was all he said in return.
“Listen? Listen to what?” Wei Ying asked.
“Heartbeat.”
“Heartbeat? Your heartbeat?” he questioned, “Oh my, it’s racing really fast. Are you alright Lan Zhan?”
“Mnn.”
Lan Zhan’s grip on Wei Ying loosened slightly and he was able to remove himself from Lan Zhan’s chest. He sat up with Lan Zhan’s arms still wrapped around him, though not as tight as before.
“Lan Zhan, are you drunk?”
Instead of responding to Wei Ying’s question, Lan Zhan just cupped Wei Ying’s face and brought their lips together. Wei Ying froze at the action, unable to move from the shock. Eventually, Wei Ying melted into the kiss. Slowly, Wei Ying wrapped his arms around Lan Zhan’s neck as he deepened the kiss. Lan Zhan pulled Wei Ying onto his lap as they continued to make out.
Eventually, Wei Ying pulled away so that they could both catch their breaths, though only enough to breathe, their lips still grazing each others.
“Lan Zhan, do you like me Lan Zhan?” Wei Ying whispered against his lips.
“Mnn,” was the only response he got.
“Good. I like you too Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying laughed.
At this, Lan Zhan pulled him back in for another kiss.
That’s how Lan Huan and Jiang Cheng found their brothers.
“It’s about time,” Jiang Cheng huffed.
Lan Huan replied with a small smile, “It is, isn’t it?” He then turned to his boyfriend and gently took his hand in both of his. “Why don’t we give them some privacy, hm?”
Jiang Cheng nodded in response as his boyfriend led the two of them out of the doorway of the guest room, silently closing the door behind them as they left.
