also the whole thing of leer being incapable of allowing direct harm to come to a child is wild because two of the party members was 1. insane cannibal fallen aasimar barbarian sixteen yo girl 2. kinda rascally leader of a gang of local children and also weretiger lawmage fourteen yo girl. both of which love to bother the shit out of him so now hes stuck w them.

i will say tho like much as i do love a found family i dont know if thats exactly the dynamic here so much as an involuntary chaperone on the most off the rails high school field trip. like

sometimes a group isn't found family not because they don't have the bonds for it or w/e but because, for all parties involved, the idea of family as something to rely on is inherently one that has always been harmful for them, so it's important that these people are very specifically not family in order to be someone they trust. like would it be nice if the characters can redefine what family means to them n whatnot? sure. but that's not always gonna happen. sometimes the guy who keeps you out of trouble is the weird dude who sits at the chess table at the park that you talk to sometimes and he doesnt have to be family to do that he just has to be there. is this anything idk

"C'mon baby lets go back to our room," Lori said to Jacey, Carl already holding her hand. Jacey nodded following a part of her family down the halls. 

"What's happening, mom?" Carl asked as he watched Lori go to the air vent feeling no air come out, "Mom? Something wrong?" 

Jacey watched her apprehensive mother, "Uh, nothing. It's just... just the air conditioning stopped." 

Lights went out soon after that too which agitated Lori more as did the disappearance of her husband. Sitting at the foot of her parents' bed, she watched as she left the room to talk to Doctor Jenner as he passed quickly. "What's wrong, Jacey?" She heard Addie call to her. 

"Please leave me alone," her hands found their ways to her ears once again seeking to block out any noise. 

"Jacey? You're scaring me... what's wrong?" Addie called to her again, causing her to look up only to see her younger brother worried, "What's wrong, Jacey?" 

"Uh... nothing, squirt. I'm fine," She stuttered, paralyzed by her shock, "Where's mom?" 

"Went after that Doctor. Sent me back to get you," Carl smiled, still perturbed, "You coming?" 

"Yep, Let's go, squirt."

The two younger Grimes' entered the hysterical room, passing their frightful mother on the way out, "Mom what's happening?" Lori didn't respond though, as she continued to run down the corridor and back to the room. Jacey caught wind of Jenner's words about how the French were the last ones to hold out. Well, that was until the fuel ran out. It sunk in deep with the child, there was no cure and there never will be - everything is gone.

Jacey, grabbing the hand of her brother, ran into the room eyeing the now sealed doors. "No. Did you just lock us in?" Glenn panicked, "He just locked us in!" Carl held her hand tighter, the loud noises and consternation becoming at once too much for him. Jacey saw Edwin take a seat at his desk and begin to talk to a camera. 

Bold lettering violated her eyes as the screen switched to black with the red-lettered words of '30 minutes to decontamination'. "Carl! Jacey!" she heard her mom bellow, quickly finding them. Dropping her bags, she wrapped her arms around the two children, kissing both of their heads. 

Daryl endeavoured over to the man in a fit of rage, yelling at him something Jacey couldn't quite catch but was quickly stopped by Shane. She watched as her father pleaded with the stubborn man to open the door, to which he refused. "What happens in 28 minutes?" Rick yelled to the man after he had ignored him the first time. 

"Come on!" Daryl encouraged threatening him with a glass bottle. 

"You know what this place is?!" He snapped, "We protected the public from very nasty stuff! Weaponized smallpox! Ebola strains that could wipe out half the country! Stuff you don't want getting out! Ever!" Jenner stops to breathe slowly, "In the event of a catastrophic power failure - in a terrorist attack, for example - H.I.T are deployed to prevent any organisms from getting out." 

"H.I.T's?" Rick asked. 

"VI, define," he ordered. 

"H.I.T's - high impulse thermobaric fuel-air explosives consist," VI continued but Jacey just blocked it out. They were going to die. They were all going to die. Rick walks over to his family joining in on their hug, mortified by the news. Jacey, however, felt okay, fine really. It didn't bother her that she was about to die - her death never seemed to scare her. What did bother her though was that her family would die too. Carl was too young to die she thought to herself. 

"It sets the air on fire. No pain," Jenner told them after VI had finished, "an end to sorrow, grief... regret. Everything." Jacey smiled through her tears, she was almost looking forward to it as dark as that sounded but she just wanted some peace, a rest. She watched as many grew angry - and in Daryl's case - violent with the doctor. 

Shane and T-dog stayed by the door throwing any and everything they had at it, but none of it making a dent. "You should've left well enough alone... it would have been so much easier," Jenner lent back in his chair, unbothered by the chaos he had created. 

"Easier for who?" Lori spat, clearly angry with the man's decision yet still a great amount of sadness in her words, knowing her children were about to die when they're lives really had just begun. 

"All of you. You know what's out there. A short brutal life and agonizing death," Jacey understood this and observed as he looked to her, "The people you lost, what was their names?" 

"Mitch and Addie," she replied not entirely sure on how he knew, while Rick looked to the man threateningly not wanting her daughter to have any part in his manipulation. 

"And you? Your sister?" he asked now to Andrea, the following was a quiet 'Amy'. "Addie, Mitch and Amy," He looked between Andrea and the girl, "You know what this does. You've seen it. Is that what you really want for your wife, daughter and son?" 

Now looking at Rick. "I don't want this," He almost cried emphatically. 

"Can't make a dent," Shane shouted to Rick, alarmed. 

"Those doors are designed to withstand a rocket launcher," Jenner said almost comedically. 

"Well, your head ain't!" Daryl screamed, making his way over to the doctor, axe ready. Dale, Rick and Shane come together once more to hold Daryl and his clear anger issues back, "Daryl! Daryl!" 

T-dog soon wrestled the weapon off of him as Jenner continued to Rick, "You do want this. Last night you said you knew it was just a matter of time before everybody you loved was dead." Lori's face drops at his words, while Jacey detaches herself from her mother and brother, planting herself on one of the many identical tables. 

"What? You really said that? After all your big talk?" Shane expectorated, almost betrayed at the doctor's words. 

"I had to keep hope alive, didn't I?" He justified to Lori. 

"There is no hope. There never was." 

"There's always hope. Maybe it won't be you, maybe not here but somebody somewhere-" 

"What part of 'everything is gone' do you not understand?" the younger girl interrupted her father, earning an approving nod from Andrea but a pained look from her family. 

"Listen to your daughter," Jenner advised, "She gets it. This is what takes us down. This is our extinction event." 

"This isn't right. You can't keep us here," Carol cried, "my daughter doesn't deserve to die like this." 

"Wouldnt it be kinder, more compassionate just to hold your loved ones and wait for the clock to run out?" Carol still cries as she holds her daughter, but Jacqui nods her head slightly. 

Much like what happened with Daryl, Shane came to the doctor pointing a shotgun right at his face, but this time Rick intervened, "Out of the way, Rick! Stay out of my way! Open that door, or I'm going to blow your head off. Do you hear me?" Jenner remained emotionless as the officer continued to aim for his head. 

"Brother, brother, this is not the way you do this. We will never get out of here, " Rick reminded him. Instead, in a fit of anger, Shane begins to shoot at the computer screens randomly, everyone cowering away from the shots. "We all die, Shane!" he reminded before struggling to get the gun away from him, "Are you done now? Are you done?" 

"Yeah, I guess we all are," Shane disputed. 

"I think you're lying," Rick said to Edwin, "You're lying about no hope. If that were true, you'd have bolted with the rest or taken the easy way out. You didn't. You chose the hard path, why?" 

"It doesn't matter," Jenner sheepishly said. 

"It does matter. It always matters. You stayed when others ran. Why?" 

"Not because I wanted to. I made a promise," he proceeded to point towards the screen, "To her. My wife." 

"Test subject 19 was your wife?" Lori questioned sympathetically.

"She begged me to keep going as long as I could. How could I say no?" Jenner paused, looking to Daryl, who continued to use his axe against the door no matter how useless it was, "She was dying. It should've been me on that table. I wouldn't have mattered to anybody. She was a loss to the world. Hell, she ran this place. I just worked here. In our field, she was Einstein. Me? I'm just... Edwin Jenner. She could've done something about this. Not me." Jacey sighed, feeling the pain of his loss substantially. 

Rick pleaded once more, "Your wife didn't have a choice. You do. That's... that's all we want a choice... a chance." 

"You let us keep trying as long as we can," Lori added. 

Jenner moves over to the desk picking up what looked like a security pad and said, "I told topside's locked down. I can't open those." 

Seconds later, the doors open and everyone begins to rush out of them, "There's your chance. Take it" 

"I'm grateful," Rick smiled, lifting his hand for him to shake. 

"The day will come when you won't be," Jenner said before shaking Rick's hand and whispering something in his ear. 

"You can't go, you know that, right?" Addie says, her voice kinder now, which Jacey was more grateful for. 

"I know. I want to be with you again," Jacey looked to the girl reluctantly, hoping that the walker won't appear again. 

Addie's face - her normal one - came into view, blooming a big smile on the younger girls face, "And you will, love. I'm never going to leave you again, I promise." 

"I love you, Addie." 

"I lov-" Addie's voice was interrupted by a male one "Jacey, c'mon, angel, grab your things. Let's go." 

Jacey shook her head at the man she realised to be her father, "I-I'm not coming." Rick stopped, hoping his ears were deceiving him but then looked at her tear-covered face and realised. 

"No, you're not, baby. Let's go," Lori shouted from behind Rick. 

"Lori just go. Get the others out of here," he ordered his wife, "We're right behind you." The rest of the group stampeded out of the room, Lori and Carl lingering for a short minute, hoping Rick will be able to convince her to join them. 

"Tell him you're sorry, Jace," Addie whispered, holding her hand. 

"I'm sorry but I-I can't." 

"Yes you can, Jacey, please. You're not thinking straight," Rick prayed that she'd see reason and join them, but his heart stopped when she shook her head. 

"I can't anymore, dad. I'm so tired." Jacey looked around the room, seeing that not only Jenner was still here but so was Jacqui and Andrea. 

An arm snaked over her shoulder, squeezing it gently, an arm, belonging to Mitchell, "Tell him to leave, babydoll, and then you'll be with us forever."

 She smiled at his words and then returned her eyes to her father's blue ones, "You have to leave. I want to stay with them." 

"I'm not leaving you here, angel," He cried, tightly holding the sides of her face. 

"Addie was only 16, dad, Mitch was 25. We had children in our camp. I-I should've died with them. I don't deserve to live when they had to die." 

"Listen to me, Jace, you survived for a reason, okay? You don't have to agree with me, but whoever is up there, whatever is in charge made it so you weren't there. So you wouldn't die. They wouldn't want you to die here and now. Your story is not over yet. I won't allow it," Rick wailed, heavier than earlier as he watched his daughter looked to her left and right as if looking at people that weren't there, "Your death isn't going to bring them back." 

"I can't leave them, daddy," She paused, "I already hurt them enough." 

"Who are you talking about, angel?" his voice breaking slightly. 

"Addie and Mitchell," Jacey told him as if it was obvious, "I can't leave them alone again." 

"Addie and Mitchell are dead, baby. They're not here anymore," the man pleaded with his deluded daughter. 

"No," she argued, squeezing her eyes shut, "shut up. You're lying, they're here with me now, they want me to stay. She promised me she wouldn't leave again," Jacey cried, looking at Addie and Mitchell, slowly seeing them morph into their walker forms, "Oh god. No, not again, please, not again. They're going to hurt me, daddy. They're going to hurt me like I hurt them." 

"Hey baby, look at me, only me, okay?" he stopped her from looking to where he assumed she saw them, "No one's gonna hurt you. Addie and Mitchell are gone. They can't hurt you, alright? Now we've got to go, angel, before it's too late." Jacey wanted to nod, to go with him, but the grip that Addie and Mitchell had on her tightened, making her let out a small cry. 

At once, they both turned into their undead self's clawing at her skin instead of holding it, "You can't leave, Jacey. Not when you did this to us." 

"No! Shut up! Leave me alone! I want to live! I don't want to die!" Rick watched the girl breakdown her hands beginning to claw away at any visible skin. The man grabbed her hands, stopping the movement before looking over to the timer seeing it hit the 5-minute mark. 

"I'm sorry, Jacey. I'm so sorry baby," Jacey heard him cry before feeling him move away from her. 

"Jacey, look at me, sweetheart," A kind, shaky voice begged of her. Jacey turned to meet their eyes, seeing a crying Jacqui, "You gotta go, darling, please."

"I can't, Jacqui. I can't keep going on like this," She paused, "I'm not strong enough."

"Yes you are, child. You are one of the strongest people I have ever met, don't ever trick yourself into thinking you're not," Jacqui apprised the younger girl.

"I'm not as strong as you think, Jacqui. Nowhere even close."

"That's where your wrong, sweetheart. You've got a lot of heart and if do say so myself a lot of balls," She smiled at her, "You're gonna survive this world, I'm sure of it." Jacqui stops speaking as she looked at the girl, aware of the mental state, "Look, sweetie, I'm not gonna force you outta that door, as much as I'd like too. I don't want you to die today, Jacey, but it seems like it's going that way so let me tell you something, okay?" Jacey nodded, "And you gotta promise me the moment you understand it you'll leave, you'll survive," she nodded once more, "Philippians 1:29; For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him but also to suffer for his sake." Jacey stayed silent not quite comprehending the meaning of the passage. 

"I don't understand, I don't get it, Jacqui," She cried into her palms.

"That's okay, sweetie, just breathe..." Jacqui refrained, "It means your pain has a purpose, whatever that purpose may be." 

"Do you understand now?" 

Jacey shook her head sadly, "That's okay, take your rest. I will see you once more in another life." Jacey watched as the older woman rejoined Jenner at his computer and observed as she wished that their conversation had gone another way and in some way Jenner also did.

"You have to stay Jace. You said you understood that. Everything will be better if you do," Addie warned, "If you go you will kill every single one of them out there. Do you want that? Do you want them dead? Your dad? Your mom? Carl?" Jacey shook her head manically, her mind flashing unforgiving images of their bodies eaten and unmoving, "So stay with me, my love. Stay, and I'll love you forever." 

Jacey nodded at her before muttering, "I'll love you forever too," causing Addie to smile. Jacey began to move closer to the dark-skinned girl, her face returning back to her natural one. 

"I wanna kiss you, Jace," Addie parted her lips inching towards Jace's. 

"Me too," She replied, shyness shrouding her confidence. 

But before their lips could touch, the masculine voice returned, "I'm sorry, Jacey," following a sharp twinge in her neck. Immediately, she felt a rush of dizziness hit her, Addie and Mitchell disappearing shortly afterwards, "no." She fell off her chair and into a pair of muscular arms, "I'm sorry, angel." 

"Addie," she cried before the darkness took over her.

 ‘ “Gorgeous, isn’t it?”

You turned away from the angelic view of the sea to those green eyes that seemed to pierce your soul. Your smile faded, your eyes rolled back. 

“Can’t you let me enjoy my dreams for once?” you rubbed your arms and hugged them, due to the strong wind that blew away your white dress and your hair. 

The two of you walked forwards, one to another. He kept his hands in his pockets and swung his feet along the tall grass. “You think you’re dreaming this?”

“I’m asleep, aren’t I?”

“Do you even know where you are?” he wiggled his eyebrows at you, showing off his smirk. 

“Somewhere.” you turned around at the view, seeing the sun rise higher up in the sky as the waterfall far away from you caught your attention. Your eyes drifted to the gigantic rocky hill then back to the green of his eyes. 

“Faroe Islands.” he spoke amusingly. “Danemark.” he walked past you and to the edge of the cliff. “My mother took me here when I was around...” he turned back to you over his shoulder and saw you looking at him with wide eyes. “Twelve.” he finished, turning his gaze upon the sea. “It’s my safe place.” 

Your brows furrowed, your feet willingly walking to his side. “Then why did you brought ME here?” 

“Because I want you to trust me.” 

“I would never.”

“But you do.” he turned to you with his whole body facing you, his energy soft and safe, his hold on your shoulder was tender, gentle even as his eyes kept reading into yours. “You do know we are Legilimen. I can feel you. I cannot only see your mind- I can see your emotions, your fears, your vulnerability.”

“And so do I.” you put your hands on his cheeks and ran your hands through his thick, curly hair. “I can feel your heartbeat racing whenever you are with me. You’re in love with me.”

And thought you could feel his fear rushing in, he did not let it take over for long. Courage replaced his whole-self and you could feel the safety of him wash you over like that waterfall far from both of you. “I might fancy you- yes but love? That’s a bit extreme, don’t you think (y/n)?” he now mirrored your hands and cupped your cheeks as well and the two of you felt closer than you had ever felt with anybody in your entire life... even with Sirius. “I can feel your heart racing as well. I can feel you like nobody else- I understand you.” he leaned his head on the side of yours and kept whispering in your ear. “Don’t you understand?”

“No. I don’t. You’re cruel and vile. I would never be with you.” 

“And you’re a Potter- pureblood egoist with a hero complex who took in a blood-traitor. I would never be with you either but oh, darling I know you feel it.” he whispered so wonderfully in your ear that your hands gripped his shoulders and your knees started to give in. “And how many lifetimes you get to feel this?” he said, pulling his lips away from your ear and to your forehead- giving it a tender, loving kiss that burnt your skin, lit your soul on fire. ‘

You woke up, bolting up in your bed and staring at nothing but the darkness. You were alone but his energy was still lingering on you like warmth, fading into cold breeze. You touched your forehead where his lips left a mark. Your fingertips gently brushed against it and your lips, despite the resilience, turned upwards. 

And your thoughts would wander to the feeling of his hair, to the colour of his eyes... to the softness of his lips and then you would wonder why him? From all people, Mulciber had to be the one to make you feel this way. 

And you contemplated about your connection with him until the morning light- until the sunlight kissed your windows and the rays of light flashed your eyes. Your feet swung themselves on the floor, carried you to the kitchen and with your thoughts far away from reality, your hands simply kept making you food. It was odd in a way, how used you were to the real world, doing daily things such as making breakfast. You haven’t even noticed you finished it until you were sitting behind the table and finding yourself being watched by other family members. 

It seemed you were still stuck in 5D world, present elsewhere but your physical body was here, behind the table. 

You felt a flick on the side of your forehead and it shook you- the whole vision crumbling down like rocks as you were finally awake- finally in this world- material world. 

“What the fuck?” James couldn’t help himself meanwhile your father shot him a glare.

“Watch your language, James!” 

“Okay. What the duck?” 

Act normal. “What?” you dug into your scrambled eggs and started to eat. “Oh my God, dad!”  you tried to distract everybody from yourself. “Mrs. Holloway asked about those documents of the newest potion your brewing. She said that the dates do not match the timeline and she thinks you might have time travelled- which was totally odd because she’s is some barmy old lady that I still do not know why works at the Ministry when she could easily retire-”

“Time travel?” your father scoffed, laughing. “Sure, I would love but I don’t have any objects or experiences to do it- plus time travelling is dangerous.”

“Like I said- barmy.”

“She isn’t that barmy, (y/n).” he tried to be nice but you could see him agreeing with you through his words. 

“Who the hell is Mrs. Holloway?” your mother asked, glaring at your father. 

“I thought I explained this.” you smiled at your mother’s jealous, taking another bite at the eggs. “A barmy old lady who works at the Ministry.”

“I still want to know what the-”

“Oh, what’s the time?” you cut James off, seeing the fury rise up in the redness of his cheeks and the tension between his brows. “I have to get ready. I’m going out with Nina.”

“Stop ignoring me!” James raised his voice but his father shot him another glare. 

“James. Tone down.”

“Didn’t you see her like 5 minutes ago?!”

“Beautiful, aren’t I?” you teased, making him roll his eyes and other stiffen their laughter. 

“Don’t be- OI! Get back here!” he started stomping after you as you quickly ran to your room and turned on the radio. He barged in with a furious look on his face. “I will not be ignored.”

“Ignored? James Potter?” you started to goad him a bit, feeling your anger bubble as well, due to him sticking his nose into everything. 

“Tell me what’s going on!”

“I’m going out with Nina. Last week before school starts.” you shrugged. 

“Not that! Tell me what’s going on with you! Why are you so odd! Why do you keep hiding things from me! What happened that stupid night and what the hell was Mulciber and his arse of a father doing here!”

“I dunno.” you turned around and started making your bed. “Ask dad.” 

“Bullshit!” he exploded. 

“It’s none of your business, James!” you exploded as well. 

“Hell, of course it’s my business! You brought those bloody twats into our home! You’re the reason they’re here!”

“Just bog off, James!” you started shoving him out of your room. “Get out of my room!”

“No!” he started to shove your hands away from you. “It’s not fair for mum and dad and Moody to know but not your own twin brother!” 

“KNOW WHAT?!”

“KNOW SOMETHING!”

“THERE ISN’T ANYTHING TO KNOW! THERE ISN’T SOMETHING! YOU’RE BEING PARANOID!”

He wanted to barge back in but it was as if they were glued to the wall.

“YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO ME!” he shouted desperately, roaring through the door. “OPEN THE BLOODY DOOR, (Y/N)!” he kept shouting, feeling his eyes tear up and the lump in his throat prevent him from speaking any further.

hello this is a rant. skip if you like. contents include freaking out about what im going to do after highschool, and feelings of nostalgia, alienation, and slightly philisophical thoughts

oh my god i dont want to go to school i dont want to deal with job interviews and dmv appointments i just want to live in a cabin and wake up with the sun and go to sleep when night falls and start the day with a cup of coffee or tea and a mountain sunrise and the smell of pineneedles and so obviously the next logical step...

was look up jobs and internships in the national parks service because hello im graduating soon which apparently means i need to become a functional independent person, which one, is scary. i hate being one of those people that is like oh my god the real world is terrifying and confusing and i cant handle it and i want to wrap myself in a blanket and never go outside but..... the real world is terrifying and confusing and i cant handle it and i want to wrap myself in a blanket and never go outside.

anyway so i looked up internships and there are a few where you can just. Move to these national parks and work there for a summer or a year or whatever and even if i applied and even if i got in oh my god id be totally alone and knowing me knowing how somehow, over the last three years, ive completely lost my ability to socialize or make real friends which sucks soooooooo much cuz i dont want to be the weird guy at work who's awkward and doesn't really talk to people. like if i hadn't made friends freshman and sophomore year i would be so fucked right now i wouldnt be talking to anyone. so yeah going to like moving to fuckin yellowstone or yosemite for a summer sounds so cool but also id be scared and probably alone and oh my god im like. a total fucking wimp. i need somebody to hit me in the face with a rolled up newspaper and tell me to pull myself together.

and im just thinking about what it would be like to just live. like those first three weeks of quarantine where there was no school and nothing happening and people were struggling to adjust to isolation i absolutely thrived it was so so amazing id wake up and id read a little then maybe i'd write then i'd make myself some lunch and practice my ukelele and read some more and write some more and go outside and look at the sky and i baked lemon bars and bread and it was so magical how all my stress just disappeared it was like i was floating.

and now im back in school and being hurled into the adult world with no map or bearings wondering how the hell anybody before me figured this shit out on their own and i just cant stop thinking and worrying and panicking because im so not normal i dont blend in easily to the world i dont function the way people are supposed to function i get stressed easily and i cant focus on anything that requires large amounts of brain power for long periods of time and i really only know how to socialize by mirroring people around me and im so bad at making friends that i care about which sounds horrible but my god none of my friends really understand me i just feel like very alienated and like i dont belong anywhere and that's a very shitty feeling. all i want is a home filled with art and books and warm flannel blankets and a few friends that get me, that know my quirks, people who i forget to feel anxious around.

like i remember when i went to church all the goddamned time and it was like family we were all so comfortable with each other i could walk up to a group of people talking and just join in and i could lean my head on one of my friends' shoulders like it was a totally normal thing to do and i could sit in silence with somebody and feel at home. one thing church did right for me was make me feel like i was safe and that i couldnt be rejected---of course that was before i realized i was queer but that's a story for another time---because we'd go on trips and have to share cabins and hotel rooms and occasionally beds and we got used to each other and we knew all of our individual oddities and it was peaceful. i'd hack off a toe to have that again. i constantly feel so so so anxious like if i say the wrong thing im gonna fuck everything up and it's just like there's this motor constantly turning and i cant turn it off cant let my guard down. id love to feel safe enough around someone to lean on them, or to just casually hug them. or god to fall asleep. i dont even know why but the idea of falling asleep around my friends is a little nerve-racking.

all of this is to say how much i dont like being alone. like yeah i like going hiking alone. i like sitting on the beach alone. i like going to coffee shops alone. i like doing a great variety of things alone. but i know that when i come back from wherever there is going to be somebody there who's glad to see me, who's glad to know i made it back safely, who wants to know about what happened while i was gone, who i feel comfortable enough with to just sit and watch fucking criminal minds into the wee hours of the morning with. and im terrified that when i start my own life, that's all going to disappear. i just want a little ragtag group of wilderness loving queers and maybe a guy to go on camping trips with and threaten with drowning and to dry dishes after i wash them.

Losing my brother in the family meant that the only ones left were us girls. Any normal family would say they had to stick together. But there was far from happiness under my roof.. but then again, that was my normal.

Who knew that getting beaten with broom handles, cable wires, fists, and anything else in arms reach could be the most painful things around? My sister and I unfortunately had the opportunity to find out. With my mom always drugged up it was left up to me to take care of my sister. She was after all the only person I had left. My mom had isolated us from the rest of the family. After all she couldn't let anybody see the bruises we were covered in. During the school year she always made sure to have our marks covered by whatever we were wearing. And we never told a soul about what was happening at home.

Until one night, I got brave. I guess I thought I was trying to do everyone a favor. I dont truly remember this night on my own, only from what the adults have told me. I waited until the middle of the night for my mom to be passed out on the couch as she always was and I tried to light her blanket on fire 6 times with the lighter she left out. I don't know if it was fear or just plain dumb. But it didn't work either way. This all happened at about 1 in the morning. Right after I called my moms best friend and left a voice mail on her machine stating that "I tried to kill my mom but it wouldn't work". Nobody found out about this until the next morning.

I was scared shitless. My mom didn't send me, nor my sister to school today. We weren't sick. Our bruises from the last beating were finally clearing up so why are we home?

I remember it was about noon time. I was in my sisters room, her sitting in my lap while we played with our toys. My mom called us out into the living room and said that no matter what she will always love us and that we were going away for a sleepover, in the moment we just didn't fully understand that she wasn't coming with us. About a year into foster care and I finally started getting weekend visits back home with my mom. It was a lot of fun lost of the time. My mom wasn't drinking or doing any lines. She was happier and was very kind compared to the woman I said goodbye to a year prior. Unfortunately for myself I ended up on my own though. My sister was ripped away from me, and I saw her maybe twice I'm the 2 years to follow. She was thrown around even more than I was. 17 homes in 3 years and 2 group homes. They all treated her like shit, as they had me. The last home we were in together, our foster moms name was Beverly. She was nice, but super strict about everything.. my sister was about 4ish at this time. It was about 11pm and my sister started throwing a tantrum, major because nobody would turn a light on for her. It was pitch black in the room we were stuck in. I didn't make a peep except for the minor "shh" I was giving my sister to try and calm her down. It didn't work. Beverly, this woman who took us in. Who was being paid to take care of us, took my 4 year old sister and made her stand outside in our backyard all alone in the middle of the night. To make matters worse, we lived in a heavy coyote area and Beverly had horses. A usual coyote snack if you don't take care of your pets. For a good hour my baby sister was screaming in my back window begging for help. It was cold. It was dark. And this bitch was just plain cruel. Only a couple days went by and I saw my sister for the last time for the next couple of months, when Beverly decided she wouldn't keep her anymore. Where were they taking her? When would I see her again? Who is going to take care of her if I'm not with her? She was all I had left... and then I had nothing.

About another 6 months had gone by and things were okay. I still hadn't completely gotten over the fact that my sister was gone yet and I guess you could say I learned my role in that house from that night with my sister and following. I guess in a way you could say I was the perfect child. But I was truthfully just afraid of what they would do to me if I stepped out of line. I still didnt know where they actually brought my sister.

This one day things finally seemed like they were looking up. I was on a home visit for the weekend with my mom. She seemed better. She wasnt drunk or fucked up. She was the exact opposite actually, compared to what I was used to.. she was kind and loving and like a true mom. I remember sitting on the floor while she played with my hair when she asked me "Do you want the good news or the bad news first?" In my opinion I always go for the bad news first so I can make myself feel better with the good news. She handed my a newspaper article and told me to just read it. My heart shattered in seconds. It was an obituary for my Uncle Joe, who happened to be my best friend, the only adult in my life to never fail me was gone. The article didn't explain much, but it was a suicide. He was battling depression and nobody saw it. The worst part out of all of it, I wasnt allowed to go to the funeral and my social worker wouldnt allow my mom to even tell me he had passed. I didn't find out until about 8 months after. The good news, I was going to be coming home for good in just a few short weeks!

Those "few short weeks" were the longest days to pass by. I just wanted to go home with my mom and sister and move on. Until i got home and learned that my sister wasnt coming back, that is. Why just me? Why isn't my sister coming home? Why won't they let her come back? Isn't my mom better? Isn't that why they let me come home? It didnt make any sense to me. Why me?

I guess it was a one-at-a-time kind of thing. I was back on track. Going to a new school, but back at home and actually feeling secure and happy again. My sister would be home in 2 months tops, as far as my mom knew anyways..

It was a regular day. School had just started, the teachers were calling out students names to make sure everybody was there and I got pulled to the nurse office. When I first went in I thought it was just a normal conversation to just make sure things were going good. She asked me if I knew a blonde woman named Erin and I had told her that she was my social worker. The nurse then got up and opened the door, with none other than Erin to be let in.

From what I remember, the conversation was short and straight to the point.

"I talked to your mom and were going to have to bring you to a new family today, you're mom says that she hates you and she doesnt want anything to do with you anymore."

Just like that, I was ripped from the perfect life I had been begging for. Where did I go wrong? Did I forget to clean my room? Did I make mommy mad? Did I forget my clothes or toys on the floor again? I just wanted a reason. Nobody had one.

I didnt find out for another year and a half, when my sister and I were finally sent back home, what truly happened on that day. Erin walked into my school and lied to my face. She told me that she talked to my mom, which was a lie. She told me my mom hated me and didn't want me anymore. I believed her and didn't talk to my mom for a good month. It was a lie. Instead of helping fix families, Erin was more than pleased to rip them apart. My mom was tricked into signing abandonment papers, signing away her rights to my sister and I. My mom never even knew I was brought back into foster care that day until 5 hours later when she went to pick me up from school.

Luckily enough for the sake of our lives, we got assigned a new social worker. Unfortunately I don't remember her name but she wasn't Erin and that was good enough for all of us. She actually seemed to listen to us about how we felt about things. She was actually helping my mom be a better mom. And my favorite part, she helped reunite us with my sister again.

All I wanted from the second I got torn from my sister, was to have my sister back. I fought to the tooth and nail to make sure she was protected. When we was finally able to come home I was more than thrilled but for some reason she wasnt. She was different. She was mean. And she didnt want anything to do with me anymore. She had been the only person I was more worried about than my own self. And she know barely wanted to hold a conversation with me, nevermind hold my hand and be my best friend as we were our entire lives before being split up. It was okay though. My mom said it was pretty much the trauma and instability that I just had to give her some time.

Time didn't help. My sister, was not my sister anymore... but atleast we were home, and home together where I could watch her.

Mechanical Breakdow Insurance refuses to pay...?

Hi and thanks for taking time to help me out. I have bought a BMW 540i (1997) back in January. I was really happy as this was my first car. Two weeks ago, I was driving to France and my gearbox died leaving me only with the first gear working. I went to a garage in France and we phoned the insurance but the insurance said that it cannot guarantee that it would cover me. They offered me to leave the car in France and to go back to London by myself. I refused to consider this option as I could not allow my self to stay in France (I had to go back to work) for more than the week-end and I could not afford to take the train/plane from Paris to London. The insurer said that they would not cover any costs associated with me going back to London. So I had to get the car back to London, and to drive it back home. I went to a garage where a very nice person accepted to take care of the car. He phoned the insurance and arranged everything. The insurer sent some engineers who inspected the car and the insurance said to the garage that they would only cover 65% of the costs...due to the mileage of the car (83,000 miles roughly). The garage has repared the car without asking me if I was ok to pay the last 35% and the insurer did not mention it to me either. I am going to call the insurance tomorrow to get more details about this story...but my concern is that : 1/ I am afraid of talking to them and to commit a mistake that could cost me more 2/ I don't know exactly what I am entitled to get and what are my resources in case they just refuse to change anything on this 3/ They ask me to pay the money upfront (around 2,000) and then I would have to make a claime but...I don't feel confident doing this..and I am far from having this money... My car caught on fire due to some electrical wiring, im fully comp, and have never claimed before. But sneaky as they are, they have told me that they do not cover electrical wiring faults, which has caused the fire. But the AA who towed my car in has catergorised it as fire damage. Surely they must cover the fire damage. I took it to a repair centre near me, and have asked them to have a quick check, and they also say its fire damage and what not, this has been procrastinated for so long by the insurance company, (claims company rather) that i can't remember what the repair centre has stated. Surely, fully comp covers something like this? THEIR engineers have said that there was no further damage to the rest of the car, but can i trust THEIR engineers? A full check up costs a lot, as they would have to take apart the car ( i believe? ) When i rang up the lady at the claims centre, she had no idea what case i was on, she literally said 'give me a moment to read up on your case' for me, thats a bit pathetic. While speaking on the phone with her not only was she rude, almost shouting at me (as i pressed on further ) . She told me she would send the company policy booklet to show that electrical wiring is not covered, and a letter stating the case was closed and in detail what the whole case is about. A week and a half has gone by (she said couple of days) This is the most annoying thing. She was rude, unhelpful, unwilling to help, and just taking the pee with the whole thing. I just find it sketchy that the letter has not been made, and no further actions or anything has happened (i have also opened another case about another incident - no info .. still) . I think they are just hoping i'd give this up as they are so unwilling to pay out. This is the reason I have insurance. Whats the point otherwise? Sorry for the long read. I have no idea what to do now, can i take it to a small claims court or talk to someone in the city council to further my case? Thanks""
