As part of #AutismAcceptanceMonth (and also just because), I’d like to uplift my amazing sister Elizabeth, and some of her remarkable recent accomplishments. Elizabeth has non-speaking Autism, which means that she communicates primarily using either a letterboard or iPad apps. An estimated 40% of people with Autism are non-speaking – 31 million people worldwide. Elizabeth, among countless others, has had troubles (to put it lightly) in the past accessing and learning to use this technology that allows her and other non-speaking people (with Autism and/or other conditions) to communicate in a way that works for them. To combat this, this week Elizabeth launched a non-profit, @communication4allorg, whose mission is to champion efforts to ensure communication is available to all non-speakers with Autism, through political advocacy, films, music, art, books, and many other avenues. As part of this effort, Elizabeth has partnered with a band called The Bleeding Hearts, and they are releasing their first two singles, Silent Cage and I Am In Here, today on all major streaming services (ie. Spotify, Apple Music, etc.). Both songs are about Elizabeth’s experiences with non-speaking Autism, and are based on poems that she has written. More songs will be released in the coming months. (Fun fact: I sing backup on both of her released songs, and @tommorello is featured on Silent Cage!) If you know any non-speaking people, please send them Elizabeth’s way! Autistic Vent: Part of being high support needs autistic is always feeling frustrated and angry about just generally everything that can’t do or things like Abl**sm and things that are inaccessible to us (especially as wheelchair users, and mobility users). Needing to use mobility aids should never be something that should be shamed for or made more difficult but Cloud just today had to deal with disabled inaccessibility at the local Denny’s Diner cafe with only one disabled parking slot and someone had already parked there, there were no other disabled parking spots but that single one user and so Caregiver had to park farther away from the front because the disabled parking was farther away from the front door of the diner and everywhere else was too far away to be wheeled. Cloud dealt with this poised and gracefully and just really wanted to sit down and have breakfast and thankfully the experience inside the Denny’s was much better than the actual parking problem. But still there needs to be more renovation for disabled parking places, and accessibility. That includes closer disabled parking and not just ONE!

Autistic vent: things cloud realized after childhood growing up was they were supposed to listen to cloud and listen to cloud’s input and scale of pain when in Sped class but teachers used that small journal and chart to rank and rate how bad cloud behaved and not asking cloud how cloud felt or what clouds level of pain/intensity lied. Cloud also realized how much bodily autonomy was robbed of not just cloud but all autistics especially nonspeaking autistics, and cloud angry cause now realize that cloud wasn’t crazy just correct in feeling certain way cloud felt about certain things. Others needed to change for cloud not the other way around. So now cloud dealing with the aftermath of allistic NT adults decisions and actions.

Love when I get to blood family's home and sometimes they still look at me like I can speak but can't now. And its just like I'm trying so hard but literally can't even get my mouth to even open. Point is I'm fucking done being in denial about it. Late regression is here and it's here to stay guys. Stop acting like I can just spill the beans. Or how 'bout the other one my mom likes to say, "hmm maybe you can walk" sure maybe if my FND allows me to but right now at that moment I needed to be in my wheelchair. So please stop apologizing to my caregiver as if she doenst get paid to do this. *rolls eyes*

Autistic story rant: TW: Div//e, and DA I grew up in a dysfunctional family and I just wanted to mention how hard it is for HSN autistics or for really any autistics to feel that them being born autistic is the reason why their parents divorced. And to me I definitely felt like my parent's divorce was my fault. Especially growing up ND autist. Just want to let all of you HSN MSN and even LSN autistis especially Nonspeaking autisits know that the parents Divorce or separation was NEVER YOUR FAULT. It had to do with your parents as people and had nothing to do with you as a person. I just want you to know that you're not broken and you were NEVER the reason why your family broke up. It was them all along not knowing what to do or to feel about your diagnosis. It should never fall to the child.

TW: abl//sm, and meanies: Watching X-men is a comfort film for me. Just on how shitty the mutants are treated by the normal people. I watch it cause a lot of what X2 the sequel shows in the movie relates really hard and personal to nonspeakers and autistics as a whole. The whole us vs them thing. And just being treated like an animal. Thankfully we dont have powers i say that cause one less reason for people to want to exterminate and experiment on us. But it really hits home when they ice man guy talks to his family who sent him away to a prep school to try to fix him so to speak and hearing his family’s uproar on how different he is from everyone else just cause hes a mutant really resonates with me with ableistic family. Again ignoring the aspie superemecy bullshit of the mutants being next stage evolution of human just the whole NT world vs the autistic and ND world really polarizes in the sequel. It just theres also a balance with we dont have to become the evil that were fighting professor X wants a coexisting accepting world inclusive of ND autistics is just like it hurts my heart so much how they just look at their kids who like they’re complete strangers .“Have you tried not being a mutant” is one of the quotes from the mother of the mutant kid who controls ice. To me it just makes sense.

HSN vent post: Cloud tired, always tired. Seems like all Cloud can think about is not doing the things Cloud once could. But Cloud always remembers that Cloud was never alone to begin with there are thousands of us HSN nonspeakers. And Cloud will always have a home/family with other autistics. Days are just hard though.
