"Stop Line 3"

It was proposed in 2014 by Enbridge, a Canadian pipeline company responsible for the largest inland oil spill in the US. Enbridge seeks to build a new pipeline corridor through untouched wetlands and the treaty territory of Anishinaabe peoples, through the Mississippi River headwaters to the shore of Lake Superior.

Line 3 isn’t about safe transportation of a necessary product, it’s about expansion of a dying tar sands industry. Line 3 would contribute more to climate change than Minnesota’s entire economy. Minnesota’s own Department of Commerce found our local market does not need Line 3 oil.

We need to decommission the old Line 3 and justly transition to a renewable, sustainable economy. Line 3 would violate the treaty rights of Anishinaabe peoples and nations in its path — wild rice is a centerpiece of Anishinaabe culture, it grows in numerous watersheds Line 3 seeks to cross. It’s well-past time to end the legacy of theft from and destruction of indigenous peoples and territories.

A new piece for #honortheearth to support their #stopline3 protest! Line 3: "Enbridge wants to build a new pipeline corridor through the heart of Minnesota's lake country and some of the largest wild rice beds in the world.  The proposed Sandpiper pipeline would carry fracked oil from the Bakken formation of North Dakota, across the White Earth reservation and the headwaters of the Mississippi River, and through the 1855 Treaty Area, to their terminal in Superior, WI.  This highly volatile substance has “incinerated” a town in Canada, and its extraction in ND threatens the lifeways and wellbeing of our relatives of the Three Affiliated Tribes. The proposed Line 3 Replacement pipeline would carry tar sands, the dirtiest fuel on the planet, from the Athabasca River Basin in Alberta.  Enbridge wants to simply abandon its existing Line 3 pipeline and walk away from it, because it has over 900 "structural anomalies", and build a brand new line in this new corridor. If this new corridor is established, we expect Enbridge to propose building even more pipelines in it. We cannot allow that. This is what I have been up to lately! Drawing deep ecology themes and learning linocut printing! I was fortunate to learn the skills from Mohawk artist extraordinaire Martin Akiranoron Loft and his sweet assistant and apprentice Jackson at Akwekon Studio. Niá:wen for hosting me!! 

GNL is a mega fossil fuel project planning to build a 700km #gadoduq pipeline through so-called Quebec, dump its liquified gas in monster tanker boats and cross the Saguenay fjord to St-Lawrence river. No need to say we don't want this to happen and put so much land and water at risk of contamination, explosion and sure disruption. The wolverine is part of the endangered animals list the pipeline would affect. Protect the wolverine and the precious forests, marshes, rivers and lakes and pristine environments Anishinabe Atikamekw and Ilnu still use!!
