Kwanzan Cherry
A late afternoon respite by the garden, washed warm by side light and cooled by long shadows and dewy grass beneath cherry blossoms. The rhythmic trilling of tree frogs sets the pace of my breathing. With a deep inhale I catch a slight peppery taste of pollen on the air, but rinse it immediately away with the humidity and salty persperation gathering around my lips. A long exhale pushes away the…

I desPISE those tiny little flying fuckers called Noseeums. Wasps and hornets are natures bullets but these little shits are nature’s trolls. They’re damn near impossible to kill, they make you itch to high hell, you can’t swat em cos they fly off before you can, and the bites last for two. WEEKS. I know I sound rude complaining about it but I’ve had to deal with these bugs for half the entire summer, and they’ve annoyed me for too long.
#Noseeums#Why do they exist#WHY#I had to put bandaids where I scratched too hard and it scabbed over#Just so I can get them off of my legs#Some healed over#Which is good#But the itching#It has not stopped yet#AAAAAAA#Beebee rants#And it’s mainly females who do the biting#i support womens rights and womens wrongs#BUT NOT FOR THESE LITTLE CUNTS

sometimes in life you will think you have long since used up your allotment of unexpected joys and then you will move to a place where wild iguanas are so commonly encountered that they're regarded as pests. life is full of unanticipated delight
#I am paying for iguana and alligator sightings in enough noseeum bites to make me look like I've got some sort of medieval plague#nevertheless. this shit rules#willow’s wastebin tagxon

And just like that, the term is over.
My final paper response has been turned in. The last 10 weeks have been a wild fucking ride. Thanks for being my sounding board when I was stressed out of my mind. Looking back, outside stressors were also contributing, so being able to babble to anyone was a massive relief.

WHY IS INDIANA WEATHER SO NICE????
ok so one time I visited Indiana in the summer to see family right? And I am a Floridian. Born and raised. And I have gotten used to working in the garden/doing yard work in thick pants and a hoodie (because of the mosquitoes, I've had bites swell to the size of cherries and itch for literal days) during the 90+ degree summer not including heat index (how the heat feels to the human body while including humidity, as the normal temp doesn't include that. In my area the heat index reaches between 101-107 on the hotter days but is usually only 97).
Ok so I am told that Indiana summers are really hot and I'm like.. OK I'll wear some jeans and a jacket because of bugs. I get there at night so its whatever. When I wake up and get ready to hang out in the great outdoors everyone is saying that my clothes are too hot. But I'm thinking, JTS fine because I won't get bit up by mosquitoes.
I go outside and it feels like its 75 degrees. I check the temperature online, it says its 90. I ask someone else what they think the temperature is. They say 'oh probably like 85-90 degrees' WHAT.
AND THATS NOT ALL. Usually even with all my layers I still get bit by noseeums because they can get through the clothes sometimes. BUT I DONT. THERE ARE LIKE NO BUGS. I TOOK OF MY JACKETS AND ONLY GOT BIT ONE TIME. WHAT WITCHCRAFT ARE THEY DOING IN THE NORTH TO KEEP THE BUGS AWAY.
Tldr: because I'm used to high humidity and lots of bugs in Florida when I went to Indiana I was very baffled by the lack of both. what I was used to being 88 degrees in my head actually felt like 98 because of the humidity where I live. So when I arrived in Indiana and felt what their 90 degrees was like, it felt like it was in the 70's to me.
Also apparently the high humidity and insane count of water in Florida is great for mosquitoes and noseeums and they just don't have a much of that up north.

No See Ums in the House: Tips to Oust Them and Sleep in Peace
Are you struggling to deal with no see ums in the house?
You don’t have to suffer.
Now is your time to put up a fight and evict them.
In this article, I talk about why you have no see ums in the house and what you can do about the situation.
Why You Have No See Ums in the House
You may have no see ums in the house because you’re close in proximity to a breeding site. While male no see ums typically remain close to their emergence site after maturing from the larval stage, female biting midges tend to travel some kilometers away in search of a blood meal.
For example, Culicoides mississippiensis (a genus of biting midges) may travel more than 3 kilometers in the span of 24 hours. This is without being aided by the wind.
When these wandering females are supported by the wind, they may travel even greater distances.
If you live close to mangroves and areas where water is collected and remains stagnant, this may be the case. While female biting midges typically travel for meals, if they are close to a source, there’s no need to venture off.
They will then invade your home to feed on you. Learn more about dealing with no see ums in the house.
