So, everyone in Dinotrux fandom have the Main Au and random Aus right?
I love alternative Universes, the not main ones especifically. I have Two alternative Au besides the Main one. The first is a Swapped, The villains are Heros, and Heros are villains. and the Second is the Dinotrux x My little pony Au, Why? cause half Dinotrux voice actors also act in Mlp(Ashleigh Ball, Matt hill, Andrew Francis), In my head, Dinotrux and Mlp are like a alternative universe of each other lmao deal with this.
Now, What are you guys alternative Au besides the main one?

The Problem With Bad Adaptations/Spin-Offs
Tumblr media
In today's entertainment landscape, there's definitely a surplus of adaptations and spin-offs of pre-existing IPs. While some are very well crafted and more than worthy additions to the franchise, others are, to put it simply, not. This post will dissect why bad adaptations and spin-offs do more harm to the IP than good and what aspiring creators can do to avoid these missteps.
Tumblr media
If you're assuming that this post is going to point to the executives who only care about money as opposed to quality, you're sorely mistaken. Executives need to be finance and business savy so that they can keep the company running. The real root cause of an adaptation/spin-off's shortcommings falls on the shoulders of the creators. They're the ones who went ahead with the creative decisions, they're the ones that put the whole thing together, they're the one's whose name is slapped under the director or creator's credit. The executives may care more about how the project rakes in profits, but it's the creator's responsibility to make sure it's entertaining to the audience.
Tumblr media
You know how many fans of books disregard the movie with the saying "the book was better" regardless if the movie was good or bad? Well, this saying is most predominantly used for bad adaptations because when they fail, the original book is used as evidence to support fans criticism. While changing things from the source material is a given with adaptations, the adaptation should make for an entertaining retelling of the original story with well rounded and fully developed characters, creative would building and really good acting. Films like Percy Jackson and The Olyimpians, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (what is up with that title being so long?!), and The Devil All The Time fail at all these essentials, and as such make for sloppy movies that don't do the books they're based on justice.
Tumblr media
Like adaptations, spin-offs should be worthy additions to the original IP. Yet often, a spin-off is mediocre at best and absolutely terrible at worst. By haing a spin-off turn out bad, the creators inadvertently justify the doubts of naysayers who felt the spin-off was unnecessary. Planet Sheen, for example, could've been a really funny show that expanded the Jimmy Neutron universe and provide some more creative ideas. Yet because it turned out to be so unfunny and unfocused, fans of Jimmy Neutron were made correct into thinking it was unnecessary. This badly made spin-off is now a permanent stain on the legacy of the original IP and creators have no one to blame but themselves.
Tumblr media
DreamWorks Animation has got to have the worst track record when it comes to their spin-offs and adaptations. With some notable exceptions such as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Dinotrux and the Dragons series, most of their shows are some of the worst cartoons ever made and do a great disservice to the original IP. Among them, Legends of Awesomeness is the worst offender and the pinnacle example of how NOT to make a spin-off. The animation is terrible, the writing is atrocious, the voice acting is very bad, and the characters are one note and annoying. The worst part about the show is Po and how he's completely out of character. Where in the movies he's a really nice guy with genuine love and respect for kung fu, the show makes him a lazy, unfunny and annoying cheat who lies and decieves his way to get what he wants. Unfortunately, DreamWorks Animation has not learned the right lessons as their recent spin-off, The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday, was absolutely terrible and their new Megamind series looks, unsurprisingly, abominable.
Tumblr media
To anyone who's tasked with making a spin-off or adaptation, here's the mistakes you need to avoid in order to make a worthy addition to the IP. Firstly, don't assume your audience is already family with the source material, because more often than not, they aren't. Second, familiarize yourself with the IP and understand why it worked in the first place and how to apply those qualities to your work while still putting your personal stamp on it. Third, don't make changes to the story or characters because you were told to by the executives or because you think it would be funny or more digestible for the audience. Before you make any changes, consult your head writer and actors and ask them what they think. Lastly, consult the producer on how to work around budgetary limitations. If you're given a set budget, don't use that as an excuse to make your work visually dull. This is especially true with animation, where you can tell they had a small budget based on how flat and weightless the visuals are. My advice when making a spin-off based on a 3D animated movie is to hire art and animation directors with impressive resumes and who can deliver quality animation even under limited budgets.
Tumblr media
Making an adaptation/spin-off is hard, much like making any movie or TV show with an original story. That said, I think the creators of adaptations and spin-offs of established IPs have a responsibility to not only do the source material justice, but also make an entertaining product that reintroduces the IP to new audiences. When the adaptation and spin-off is mediocre or terrible, it angers fans and alienates newcomers. We could've had a whole new generation of fans of The Green Hornet by now. But because the 2011 movie staring Seth Rogan was so mediocre and underperformed financially, the IP was sent right back into obscurity with a reboot stuck in development limbo. To conclude, an adaptation/spin-off should be more than just an addition to the franchise; it should be a very good appetizer to an already great main course.

Hey Dragon Fans! Let’s do a round up of all the information we’ve gotten so far about The Dragon Prince! This is quite a lot of info, so I’ll be throwing the bulk of it under a cut. (There will be spoilers for episode 1 of the show below the cut.)
The Dragon Prince, developed by Wonderstorm Inc., animated by Bardel Entertainment, and distributed by Netflix will be releasing all the episodes of the first season on September 14, 2018.
The official summary is, “Two human princes forge an unlikely bond with the elven assassin sent to kill them, embarking on an epic quest to bring peace to their warring lands.”
You can watch the promotional trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7Bf7JLnlOU
Promotional taglines used by the official accounts have been “Destiny is a book you write yourself!” and “dragon big”.
Netflix currently has the show rated as TV-Y7 for Fantasy Violence. The animation is cell-shaded CG, much like what you see in Fire Emblem, Guilty Gear, or Avatar: The Lost Episodes.
The show will have an accompanying video game developed by Wonderstorm* with the story tellers for both show and game working closely together to ensure the stories being told are well integrated and complementary.
Tumblr media
Our lead characters for the Netflix series are Callum, the elder human prince, Ezran, the human crown prince, and Rayla, a Moonshadow Elven Assassin.
The universe The Dragon Prince takes place in is divided into two primary areas, Xadia, the magical lands in the East, and the five great human kingdoms in the West. Centuries ago, Thunder the King of Dragons guarded the border between Xadia and the Human Kingdoms.
In the TDP universe, there were originally six types of magic: moon, sun, stars, earth, ocean, and sky. Humans developed a seventh type of magic, Dark Magic. With Dark Magic you find a creature that has that magic as part of their essence, you consume it quickly, and it unleashes a great amount of magic quickly. Dark Magic became a shortcut to great, fast power, but led to corruption and was wielded at the expense of the varied, intelligent, and powerful magical creatures of Xadia. The dragons and the elves allied to try to put a stop to the humans’ use of Dark Magic, but the Dragon King Thunder was killed by humans using dark magic and Thunder’s only egg and heir, The Dragon Prince, was destroyed. Now the world stands on the edge of all out war...
The first episode is titled “Book 1: Moon, Episode 1: Echoes of Thunder” and was premiered at the SDCC 2018 panel. You can read IGN’s review of the episode here.
SPOILERS FOR EPISODE ONE BEGIN HERE
Ezran is scared of thunderstorms and likes to steal treats from the baker with his pet glow toad, Bait. Glow toads are described as “the Grumpy Cat of magical illusionary amphibians.”
Even though Callum is older he is not the crown prince because he is the stepson of the king. This means Callum and Ezran are half brothers. The condition and whereabouts of Callum and Ezran’s mother is reported to be a spoiler. The King is a black man, and it appears that Ezran may be biracial.
One of the royal guards Sorin/Soren/Zoren (spelling unknown) is tasked with training Callum in sword fighting. Callum is disinterested and prefers to draw, unless Soren’s sister, Claudia, is around. Callum appears to have a crush on Claudia, and Soren helps by going easy on him in sparring sessions in front of her. Claudia appears to be very studious and nearly runs into a tree while reading because she is too focused on her book. Claudia and Soren’s father is a highly placed lord and leader of the royal army/guard.
It looks like Callum will be learning to use magic over the course of the show. What type of magic he uses is currently unknown. Based on the trailer I think that may be Claudia also shown using magic. Regardless of her identity, I suspect what the dark haired female magic user in the trailer is using is the Dark Magic we’ve seen discussed.
The elves that Rayla is a member of are called Moonshadow Elves (white haired elves with dark horns) and they literally draw power from the moon. They are at thier strongest during the full moon. The bracelet Rayla wears was acquired during a ceremony swearing loyalty to the Dragon King’s cause/memory(?). Moonshadow Elves demonstrate at minimum some form of cloaking magic, but can still be detected by certain types of animals. Rayla has a Scottish accent.
Rayla is going to be something of a mysterious figure and strongly conflicted about her role in current events, “testing her sense of right and wrong.” She tries to tell herself that “an assassin does not decide right or wrong, only life and death.”*
When the Moonshadow Elves stage an attack on the castle, the King decides to send Callum and Ezran away for thier own safety. Meanwhile, Soren and Claudia are ordered by thier father to stop the assassins. Callum wants to help but is told he cannot because he is only 14 (and 3/4!) years old and he must be 15 to fight.
There was a black-haired guard in the first episode (the one attacked by Rayla) that had not been formally named, but when asked by the panel audience they named him Marcos.
END OF  SPOILERS FOR EPISODE ONE
During the Q&A session (I’ve discussed this with several people who were in the room now trying to get clarity) it sounds like the question of if there would be LGBT+ representation in the show was very narrowly sidestepped. They told the panel audience that any sort of answer would be a spoiler. It seems likely that there will be LGBT+ representation, but it has not been explicitly promised, and I urge folk to temper expectations with the knowledge that while it’s wrong to use the TV-Y7 rating as a reason to not show canonically LGBT+ characters, it may end up being outside the Wonderstorm team’s hands to try to get it on screen. I’m cautiously optimistic. We’ll have to wait and see.
The staff did say they are strongly dedicated to creating an inclusive and diverse fantasy universe, with an especial focus on visible ethnic diversity. We can already see the beginning of that with the King and Ezran.
Being on Netflix permits the staff to do a darker take on the story than they might have been permitted on network television, and they’re excited to get to tell a complex and nuanced story that explores moral grays and the idea that there are both good and bad actors in every group and culture. That said, they want this series to be fun, light-hearted, and quirky too.
The SDCC panel gave away two goodies to anyone lucky enough to get into the panel, a large physical poster version of the concept art we first saw with the initial announcement and an enamel pin of Ezran’s pet glow toad, Bait. The backing for the enamel pin announced that Hot Topic will be carrying exclusive merchandise for The Dragon Prince beginning in September 2018.
(A big thank you to elventhespian, owldee, and kohisu for thier live blogs of the SDCC 2018 panel.)

About King Julien and the other characters of Madagascar
So, i’ve been visiting a couple of zoos recently (even one in France!) and you know what i’ve noticed? Maybe you can see it yourself?
Visit zoos with Lions, Zebras, Giraffes, Hippos, Penguines and Lemurs (doesn’t have to be the same zoo), stand by their enclosures and listen to what the visitors (mainly children) say. Did you notice something? What animal got recognized the most? Which name did the children say more frequently?
Well, i can save you the leg-work, it’s going to be King Julien. Guaranteed.
Why? Because of all the characters of the whole Mada-Franchise HE’s the most recognizeable and memorable!
I mean, besides KJ the only other name i’ve heard often was Nemo for a clownfish.
379 zoos in Europe (54 of them in Germany alone) got Lemurs (and that’s for the Ringtails only)! Yes, 379. I like to believe KJ had a big impact on that number since 2005, but i couldn’t find any sources to proof that’s really true other than what a zookeeper told me.
Still, Cattas and pretty much all lemurs are still endangered, the most endangered Lemur is the blue-eyed black lemur if i’m not mistaking (poor Horst)! There are approx. 2000 Cattas living in the wild and 2400 in captivity.
I think KJ is the one who made lemurs as popular as they are today and legitimately saved them from complete extinction... for now. I mean, he’s quite literally the face of lemurs in pop-culture! People like seeing them in zoos!
Ofcourse this bears a big risk as many people want to have Lemurs as pets, too, because of how cool he is... It’s a bad idea! I’ve talked to a lemur owner and she said they’re literally toddlers that can climb, jump and get everywhere...
I digress, however, my point is that Dreamworks should be focusing on KJ in their next Mada movie, because he’s the face of their Mada-franchise. Granted Madagascar is not the biggest franchise they got, according to the Google trends it’s Boss Baby right now. Infact Madagascar seems to be one of the lowest as of now (still better than Dinotrux, tho). But all those franchises don’t represent a species that’s close to extinction, except for Madagascar!
@dreamworksanimation
That’s why Madagascar is important. And that’s why it should be more about Madagascar and King Julien! Atleast to make people aware of the existance of it and the lemurs! I think if they would take madagascars deforestation problem into account and, for example, make KJ fight against it, they could do a great step forward to saving madagascars wildlife! I don’t say it would magically solve the problem, that’s utopical, but it would have some impact atleast!

YouTube is making a play for Nickelodeon's lunch money
Kids aren't watching TV the way the used to, yet marketers are still spending on TV ads aimed at children and their parents.
Google is trying to capture some of these budgets with YouTube Kids.
Mattel is moving some of its TV spending to YouTube as part of an annual upfront commitment.
Kids are not watching TV the way they used to, yet marketers focused on advertising for kids and their parents have been slow to recognize that reality, keeping the bulk of their ad budgets in TV.
That may be starting to change.
Mattel, the maker of iconic toy brands like Barbie and new entrants like Dinotrux, is making its first "upfront" ad spending commitment to YouTube Kids, Google's kids-only app that was rolled out in February of 2015.
Many marketers buy traditional TV ads space on an annual, year-long basis to lock up inventory and prices, in a process known in ad circles as the "upfront" market. This tradition has rarely translated to digital media.
The toy marketer declined to say how much money it had committed to YouTube Kids other than to say it's an eight-figure deal. According to Catherine Balsam-Schwaber, chief content officer at Mattel, the company's digital ad spending has jumped by 40% over the past year.
"This is a first of a kind and a first ever such deal for Mattel," said Balsam-Schwaber. "We’re really excited. This is a reflection of a shift we’re seeing in digital media. With anything that is new [you wait to see if there's] momentum. That has to become clear. But you see this generation after generation as media habits change."
To be sure, it won't be easy to changes marketers' habits. Despite all the talk you might hear about kids only watching Netflix or videos on their parents' phones, kids TV is still an $800 million market, according to Variety.
But as the Wall Street Journal's Joe Flint recently reported, kids TV networks are seeing audiences flee, particularly Disney.
That represents a good opportunity for YouTube Kids, which promises a fully contained, kids-only collection of short and long videos, with several options designed to give parents control of viewing time.
Malik Ducard, YouTube's global head of family and learning, told Business Insider that YouTube Kids now reaches more than 11 million viewers each week across the globe, up from 8 million as of February. The app has generated over 30 billion views to date.
"We have great momentum, and we’re excited by the reception across the board," he said.
Rachel Saunders, insights and strategy director at The Cassandra Report, which conducts research on millennials and generation Z , said that among young consumers, YouTube is on par in popularity with networks like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. The firm found that 44% of kids between the ages of 7 and 12 say they use YouTube multiple times day, though the research didn't specify YouTube Kids.
YouTube Kids still faces challenges. Advertisers in this category are cautious when it comes to digital media.
That's because marketers and media companies in this universe need to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (known as COPPA), which is overseen by the Federal Trade Commission. COPPA among other things prohits targeting kids with ads using behavioral data.
No advertiser wants to end up running ads on the wrong website or being caught using any kind of personal data to sell children toys.
Another challenge YouTube kids grapples with: regular YouTube. Some kids advertisers say they are already running ads on kid-friendly YouTube channels, such as the toys unboxing influencer EvanTube.
"There’s that grey area between advertising and entertainment that plays well on YouTube, but it's harder to regulate," said Saunders.
One of the appeals of YouTube Kids is that it's a safe, well lit and closed environment for kids' brands. And Google says it is expanding its programming offerings to widen its usage. Ducard noted that kids and parents can personalize the app experience.
"It serves a broad range of kids ages," he said. "That includes 9-year-olds into science experiments and 4-year olds into nursery rhymes. There are many different experiences."

That represents a good opportunity for YouTube Kids, which promises a fully curated, kids-only collection of short and long videos, with several options designed to give parents control of viewing time.
