for the red web fans- a six-minute update was uploaded, detailing the future of the podcast in light of rooster teeth shutting down. here's a quick summary of it:
rt is winding down in these next 2 months. red web is under rt, so red web is directly affected by the shutdown
as said by trevor, they're still working on it. they're unsure what will happen, but they're currently looking to see if they can continue the show, either still under the name "red web", or at minimum continuing the show "in some form"
trevor notes that he and the crew believe it was "the honor of a lifetime" to work on red web, and appreciates all the support. he also notes that he's incredibly grateful for the opportunities the show has given everyone that's worked on it. they can't respond to every comment or dm they've gotten, especially in the last few days since the announcement, but they see them nonetheless
the podcast as is will go on through mid- to late april as they consider what comes next for the podcast
all 5 of the book club episodes have already been finished. they will be coming out every friday through the end of march (the 29th). no new episodes after that will be recorded
the crew is still planning a big video finale, "something big and exciting". could serve as the end of a chapter to red web, or as a way to say goodbye. not a lot of details on that, however, because everything isn't set in stone, and trevor doesn't want to promise something that might not exist
he explains that months of content were planned out before the shutdown announcement, so they'll try to at least "cherry-pick some of their favorite topics that they had in the immediate runway" in order to go through some topics that trevor considers "very fun"
trevor also teases that the last episode is "oddly poetic" and encourages people to share their thoughts and theories, as always
trevor then shares everyone's personal instagram handles, just in case they can't access red web's official social media accounts: - jillian: _jillen - christian: xchinyoung - alfredo: alfredoplays - trevor: _trevorc

dam the angst poly!gayatrixpavitrxreader fic was so good it broke me man :( /pos
Maybe some fluff time? please? Like they do stuff for their first anniversary? Maybe the reader wants to surprise them but they find out that all of them individually had a surprise for the other two? i think that would be nice :)
Thank u and have a great day! :)))
𝙃𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 (𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙙) 𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙨
Tumblr media
Cw: fluff, poly!gn!reader x Pavitr Prabhakar x Gayatri Singh,
Notes: a little break from the yandere stuff, I hope you like it!
>If we're following the tricycle storyline, Pavitr and Gayatri technically have their anniversary before, but none of them want to celebrate it that way, they weren't really happy since they were crushing on you and feeling guilty about it
>They still remember it and give little presents to eachother, but nothing too big, Pavitr calls it a "pre-versary" and he has one for you too, it's the day you bumped into him in the hallway, but you don't remember it and just assume is a little gift without much meaning (just a nice thing to do y'know)
>Pavitr isn't great at keeping secrets when it comes to the most important people in his life, but he's determined to keep your anniversary a surprise
>But so is Gayatri, and so are you
>Which leads to incredibly awkward exchanges
>"You said you'd be at the park, but I passed on my way to the bus stop, and I didn't see you" you asked
>"I was at the other side, near the pond. Feeding ducks" Gayatri sounded oddly serious about it
>"There's ducks now?" You excitedly questioned
>"Yes, it's very recent..."
>Gayatri had to create a community plan and run it through the city hall to have ducks at the park so you didn't suspected, at least you and Pav were happy about it. Pav got extremely attached to one of the ducks and now you have to visit them every week or he cries
>This has been going on for at least three months, And you're pretty sure you've been seduced to ignore certain things
>"Pav why were you- he cut you off, a finger to your lips and another hand gently holding your chin so you look up to his deep set eyes, he kisses you softly, leaving you dumbfounded and uninterested in whatever you were about to ask
>Since it's your first anniversary, you are still in highschool, making things even more complicated
>You stayed after school and stole their locker keys (for a good reason), and spent the whole afternoon stuffing flowers in their lockers so that they'd be showered in petals when they open them
>You were practically unable to sleep that night, you planned the whole day to surprise them, the fanciest dinner a high school student could afford, heartfelt long letters, and trinkets here and there that you knew they'd like, you were also really excited to see what they got for you
>But you woke up to anything but a happy anniversary
>First thing in the morning and you heard ruckus coming from a few blocks
>You looked through your window and see a weird looking villain of the week
>"Ah, spiderman will handle it, it doesn't matter" you said calmly until you remembered "wait- Spiderman's my boyfriend"
>You get dressed in a rush, grab a fruit and start running/biking to the center of whatever's going on, you know Pavitr wouldn't want you there, but you can't help it
>You're horrified when you see Gayatri tied up to some sort of machine, she wiggles around to try and free herself
>You get to the building without catching Pavitr's attention and start running the lots of stairs it takes to reach the rooftop
>As you're finally get to it, climbing the firescape ladder (I hope you know what I'm referring to)
>"Jaanu! You're not-" he uses his webs to stick the villain to the wall "You're not supposed to be here"
>"What do you mean? I already kidnapped your girlfriend, who's this?!" The villain said, he had a green enlarged head looking like a skull
>"For such a big head you're pretty close minded you know?" Pavitr said, he triumphantly swinged to the rooftop as he left the webbed up villain to the police
>You ended up recurring to your teeth to break the rope with odd materials holding your girlfriend captive
>"sweetie! Thank you, thank you, but you shouldn't have come in here!" Gayatri said between kisses and hugs
>Pavitr joined the hug and apologized for everything, of course you told him it wasn't his fault
>"Happy anniversary, I guess" you smiled
>Gayatri started looking in her pockets and found the three lockets she got for you "I'm so lucky they didn't fell off" the gold heart shaped lockets had a photo of you three you took on a photo booth almost a year ago
>Maybe it wasn't like you planned, like any of you planned, but it was a good day, any day you spend with them is beautiful in its own ways, and you hope you can keep having days like these (maybe with a little less kidnapping) for the rest of your life

For your Untamed Billy Joel Musical, have you considered "I Go To Extremes"? It would barely need any lyrics changed.
yeah that's such a good one! @needtherapy suggested in the notes on the only the good die young parody that wei wuxian sing it during sunshot, which is spot on, and then later in response to this VERY funny How Peaceful Is LWJ: Episode 36 post it occurred to me that it would be delightful to have drunk!lan wangji do a reprise...
other songs that would work with few lyrical changes, mostly courtesy of @winepresswrath and needtherapy from that first link:
river of dreams as a song for the yunmeng trio to sing from different parts of the stage while they're separated during the burial mounds era
shameless, which wei wuxian originally sings VERY over the top and tongue in cheek during the yin iron roadtrip, and then a reprise in the second life to which lan wangji has a very different reaction (@weatherfey's brilliant suggestion), and then lan wangji does a heartfelt reprise on the steps of jinlintai
AND SO IT GOES JIANG CHENG SOLO (still hurting over this tbh)
if i only had the words (to tell you) would be lan wangji when he's trying to get wei wuxian to come back to gusu with him
lullabye (goodnight, my angel) as a song jiang yanli sings to her brothers and her brothers sing to jin ling and a-yuan when they're missing her...this would serve as the yunmeng trio theme and the melody would recur at all their important moments
if you have jiang cheng singing the questions in big man on mulberry street to wei wuxian (just change the pronouns to you instead of i), you could make some cosmetic changes to the street names and plop it in the qishan indoctrination. or if you were willing to make some changes to the questions you could make it about wei wuxian not carrying his sword and his other assorted inexplicable (to jiang cheng) behavior during and post sunshot
state of grace is sooooo lan wangji to wei wuxian during sunshot and/or burial mounds coded. but almost all of it would work very well for jiang cheng as well...maybe they trade off verses
i also think lan wangji could do a lil summer, cloud recesses solo at some point during that same period. maybe when he's letting wei wuxian and the wens go?
honesty would be first sung by nie mingjue, then lan xichen could do a reprise in guanyin temple
wei wuxian sings a minor variation right after he fails to grow lotus in the burial mounds
you may be right is wei wuxian to lan wangji but i'm not really sure exactly how to get the timing work. i did a version with the first verse in the burial mounds and the second verse in xuanwu cave, but i'm not married to that
someone could maybe sing angry young man about wei wuxian, but i'm not sure who
she's got a way and/or leave a tender moment alone by jin zixuan
song lan gets everybody has a dream :)
just the way you are, lan wangji to wei wuxian post-resurrection
possibly wei wuxian all about soul about lan wangji sometime in the second life, though it's probably unnecessary
you're my home, ensemble cast (also see needtherapy's wangxian fanvid 🥺). curtain.
also see various lyrical rewrites in A Very Untamed Billy Joel Musical Ice Dance Extravaganza. thanks for your contribution to the billy joel cql fandom, you're welcome here any time 🥰

IGOR, released may 17, 2019, tylers fifth studio album, one of tylers most heartfelt and emotional albums, I’m gonna be discussing IGOR and how it shaped tyler into a grammy winning artist.
Tumblr media
IGORS THEME
igors theme sets the mood for the album, showing how the story will start, in the music video, this discussion of this song is quite short, but the song and lyrics are interesting for a opener, this opening to this album would be a time in history as igor was made, its looping qualities were amazing, showing how smart tyler truly is. We see in the music video multiple people, looking like tyler, I’m not sure if this is supposed to be Igor, but a few seconds in we see one of the identical tylers(?) start bobbing their head, as the line plays “Ridin' 'round town, they gon' feel this one” referencing possibly how this album would be good maybe? But after a few seconds of bobbing their head, he goes back to normal, possibly showing how IGOR, the person that we will mainly talk about in this album and a extremely important part of the album showing IGORS personality and showing a meaning of unrecruited love. Showing how igor tried maybe, the bobbing his head going out of his way for the love interest of tyler, then, referring to the end of the album where he goes back to normal, showing a loop almost as we see with the name notes of “are we still friends” and “igors theme”this is also a prelude for the album, if you wanna call it that, it finishes up with no fade, but also helping the loop in a way, the album is so beautifully crafted that even a prelude song, without much words can be that powerful to the story. This song has a music video, thankful for tyler for that one, lol, but that is my interpretation of igors theme, due to it not being the longest or most important song in the album, this explanation of the song IGORS theme was slightly shorter then others. as further and deeper dug into IGOR, you can see how the start of the song, is more bumpy then the whole album, i feel like it gives you that surprise of being a whole different album you’ve IMAGINED if your listening to tyler for the first time. IGORS THEME, is a important song to many, and the start of a masterpiece to tylers album, despite it not doing much for the story, it is still a memorable song for IGOR, to not be ignored.
IGOR, FIRST SONG.

A handful of celebrity chef memoirs I really liked
Plus a rant on Chang's work, and a way general audiences can enjoy memoir as a genre
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't have all too much interesting to say about them, but they're all definitely worth a read. The audiobook versions are pretty amazing, especially since they're being read by the authors themselves.
Bourdain's excellence goes without saying, but Chang's memoir (he's the Momofuku/Ugly Delicious guy) is seriously underappreciated. I think I just saw the cover at a bookstore once, and was just weirdly drawn to it for some reason.
The Sisyphus imagery being evoked with a celebrity chef memoir seemed interesting, and the further elaboration in the beginning of the book, of it being Oddjob and I think? an allusion to the Allman Brothers Band, might be enough to draw some of you in.
It was especially interesting for me to read as both an Asian-American and Japanese (Just FYI Chang is Korean-American, he taught English in Japan for a while). A lot of the work discusses Asian identity in general, and talks about some of Chang's artistic work in relation to this within his restaurants, which is genuinely super interesting to learn about. There's a lot I think Asians can take away from this work, especially since I think "Confucianist" upbringings are somewhat common for us.
The order I experienced the three also worked out well, since there happen to be some through-lines and discussions of similar topics from different points in time and from different people. I don't really want to impart my own meaning onto these autobiographical works, but it gave me a lot to think about in general.
I honestly didn't expect so much from these works, since so much of what a celebrity chef is in the popular consciousness is "persona" in a sense. And more specifically, "exaggerated persona to make money," say Chang's typical public persona and like Gordon Ramsey. I don't think I can really draw the line with what is and what isn't persona or exaggerated with these works, nor am I qualified to do so, but at the very least: I can say the experiences presented in them are extremely human, and heartfelt, regardless of veracity to one's character or real events.
Genres like memoir are ultimately not a life-accurate recollection of various happenings, but just a work of writing created for public release, and I think that is important to always keep in mind. But regardless of that, they often still work as a work of narrative, and we can always look to it to try to understand it in some sense. Understand, not as in fact-check or comb through and try to guess what's real or who's actually "Bigfoot" in real life; but as any work of writing, just engage with it through good faith, and try to derive some personal meaning from it.
Also I should just make a note somewhere here, or else I'll get yelled at, but biography and history are still very important and noble pursuits; however, it should probably be left to academics lol. There is still definitely an element of historical interest to pick up on, but that should somewhat go without saying in the genre that is "memoirs." What I'm trying to get at is what other things this genre can provide for general audiences, and to just make a point to not worry too much about historical truth or accuracy of some portions.
TL;DR
Back to the works I mentioned first, would I recommend them? Definitely. I'd somewhat urge you to check them out in release order, alongside any other celebrity chef memoirs that interest you. It's really interesting to see the changes in the landscape and just changes in ideas over time, and does have some interesting history too. Just a lot of interesting stuff to read about.
Memoirs as a genre are pretty interesting, and I do think they can be enjoyed in a lot of ways. The typical way of just reading it as literal is great, but just thinking about the narrative of the works I think can have immense value as well, since that is kinda how they're written.

Okay so let me just see if I understand what happened in S1E4 The Naked Time because frankly I feel extremely unhinged right now and I need to recalibrate my sense of reality.
They find a bunch of dead frozen scientists on a planet that's about to be destroyed by unclear natural causes. Only two of the six bodies are shown; one is very clearly a mannequin. Leonard Nimoy is wearing a repurposed shower curtain for the entirety of these initial scenes. That's not relevant to the plot, but it's important to me on a deep personal level.
They don't know it yet, but the scientists died because of some kind of Space Madness that spreads through water. Lieutenant Joe removes his safety glove to scratch his nose, earning him the title of Court Jester Of The Week, but does not contract the disease from touching any of the ice coating the area - instead he contracts it from a stray drop of blood that remains unfrozen for some reason. After sticking that blood drop directly up his nose for safekeeping, he and Spock return to the ship.
Joe has a minor existential crisis in sickbay, then he goes to get some lunch, where he has a major existential crisis and tries to stab himself with a butter knife. Sulu and Lt. Riley try to subdue him, but he gets stabbed anyway. Joe dies; Sulu and Riley are now infected. McCoy demonstrates an appalling lack of concern for basic masking procedures when performing open air surgery.
Meanwhile, the Enterprise absolutely positively has to maintain an orbit around the dying planet as it decays - a very delicate process that requires everyone to be running at full capacity. So naturally, Sulu fucks off to threaten blank-faced crewmen in the corridors with a sword, and Riley infects Christine before barricading himself in engineering and turning all the engines off so he can be better heard as he tells women at large that they're prettier without makeup.
Christine makes a heartfelt love confession to Spock (presumably earning herself some kind of write up for sexual harassment later what with all the hand-to-hand action) and he becomes infected as well. He sobs mathematically about it in a conference room.
Scotty and Kirk break into engineering and subdue Riley, but it's too late to restart the engines and the ship is gonna go down unless they calculate something something and implode the engines. But it's only a theory, Jim!!! It would take a million computers to calculate!!!
McCoy finds a cure to the Evil Water. The one that's got the Space Madness in it. The one that's like. Just water, but weird about it. But it's okay, because he has the cure now. The cure to water. But just the evil kind.
Kirk finds Spock crying about feeling love (mood) and becomes infected, but seemingly also fully cures Spock of the disease by letting himself get backhanded over a table.
(Side note: I am going to be keeping a running tally of how many times physical violence against Kirk ends up curing Spock of his emotional turmoil, because I know it's not just the once.)
Kirk has a minor meltdown about the Enterprise not being a flesh lady that he can take for walks on the beach, then decides he doesn't have time for that and goes back to the bridge, where McCoy He-Mans the fuck out of his shirt for no god damn reason just to give him a hypo for the Space Madness. Spock goes to help Scotty with the implosion calculations, and fuck me sideways they pull it off and everything's fine except for Joe who's still dead.
BUT!!! The implosion sends the Enterprise BACK IN TIME........BY THREE DAYS.
CONGRATULATIONS ON DISCOVERING THE SECRET TO TIME TRAVEL IN THE LAST TWO MINUTES OF THE EPISODE???????
Kirk and Spock comment mildly about trying out fucking time travel again later. Someday. When they're feeling more up to it. The end!
Do I have all of that right? Is that what just went down? I think I need to lie down.

What was Evangelion? A Collection of Doujinshi Works - Batch 1
Tumblr media
Comic Box 1997 End of Evangelion Special Archiving Project - Entry #3
The majority of the rest of the feature involves submissions by ‘fans’ of Evangelion sharing their thoughts on End of Evangelion & Eva as a whole in hybrid art/essay form. I put ‘fans’ in quotation marks because this group is selective; it is almost entirely doujinshi artists or even professionals in the industry. They are certainly lovers of Evangelion; but they are also producers of content that depends on that industry, and have a unique relationship with anime in comparison to the median fan. I think this feature is truly valuable as a sociological sample of how the anime community saw Evangelion, but it is important to note that this sample is not representative.
Since their comments are straightforward, I will not provide an introductory analysis - I will instead provide the page and a translation below. Additionally, I will showcase information about the authors of these pieces; I find these works to be beautiful, hilarious, and/or heartfelt, sometimes created by artists lost to time. Hopefully I can reveal a small piece of lives of the people behind this collective response to Evangelion.
I'll add the first translation here that matches the title image, and the rest will be in the link at the end:
What was Evangelion?
A Collection of Doujinshi Works
Children still worry, love, and continue to live on... and we draw another Evangelion...
“The grace of god has arrived to save us all” by Ao Takegawa
I watched "The End of Evangelion" twice on its opening day. After the second viewing, a person behind me said, "I don't understand," while others in the theater said, "I don't like it," and my sister and I were upset by their words. However, I think this is truly a good thing about Evangelion. If everyone is convinced of the same viewpoint after watching, it's not really Evangelion anymore. There are parts that are extremely appealing and parts that are extremely detestable, and the fact that it doesn't try to explain everything from top to bottom is what makes it great.
I love it. I think that Evangelion is very good at handling the mentality of its characters, and probably would not have reached the eyes and ears of so many people if it had been made in a normal, preachy way. It's interesting even if you only think about the characters without thinking about anything else (laughs); I like that those who want to think about every part of the show can, and those who don't can just enjoy it without thinking too much. So, "What was Evangelion” I think my answer to that question is, "Evangelion was great.” (Laughs) ← am I an idiot?
- Ao Takegawa, 1997.8.5.
Author Info
Ao Takegawa was a member FANATICS (sometimes called FANATICA) doujin circle, and was from what I can gather one of their key artists. They published a very extensive series of doujin around Evangelion - you can see some listings on Mandarake here - which stood out for their soft-pastel art style and inclusion of detailed plots. From what I have seen there is a lot of Kaworu, though they were not restricted to yaoi works.
Tumblr media
I unfortunately have been unable to find much more about this author - none of these doujin appear to be scanned, no extant social media presence or discussion of their works, etc. Hopefully someday this doujin series can be rendered more accessible.
See the rest below if you wish of course:

[ 🫀 ] does your muse make decisions with their head or their heart? perhaps a bit of both? / [ 💥 ] is your muse protective of those they care for? if so, how do they show it?
Headcanon memes
[ 🫀 ] does your muse make decisions with their head or their heart? perhaps a bit of both?
By nature, Svern is far more inclined to make his decisions using a combination of his head and his gut. (I say gut, because it's more associated with intuition, than heart is with plain emotions.) That's both because he is at core a very rational person, and because, well, his deal with not feeling strongly on most things and being disconnected from his own dull emotions meant that he mostly used his head by default anyway.
This has been complicated a little by the advice he follows to make living tolerable: to try and tune in to those fleeting emotions and act on them, even if they're worthless, even if you wonder if that was even a real feeling or merely a fabrication of one. Svern, to a degree, "switches off" his intensely analytical brain to see if he can make life a little more enjoyable for himself. He narrows his vision and focuses on acting on impulse and fleeting sensations on purpose.
If it came to something important, though, he should easily be able to detach and think things through, then act to achieve the outcome he wants. (Not necessarily the one other people may approve of, but the one he personally prefers. Which by some definitions might run counter against the head-thinking, but only if you equate logic with duty.)
*Note however that in a rare case where Svern does truly feel something strongly, he's actually not equipped to deal with it very well because he just isn't used to feeling things strongly. The chances of him running along with it, especially given how he's intentionally tuned himself to acting on impulse, are higher then. He probably won't if he still sees a bigger reason not to, but it may have a greater influence on his behaviour.
[ 💥 ] is your muse protective of those they care for? if so, how do they show it?
He can be. It's a little tricky because as I've said before, Svern doesn't normally care much about others, not even if he likes them; depending on how much he likes them he might be disappointed if something were to happen to them, or he might not even be moved at all. He isn't the kind of person who wants to step in on someone else's behalf purely out of heartfelt care.
Buuut, if you manage to get into a really specific category of people Svern likes/genuinely cares about... yes. He won't be protective in a watchful or concerned way, but rather in the way where he still doesn't seem to care until something actually happens. A way in which he can potentially become somewhat possessive. He likes you, he'd rather you didn't go anywhere, thank you very much. Or, he's rather fond of that person, what made you think you had any right to do anything to them? (In the case of the latter, watch out.)
Outside of those sorts of more extreme situations? Svern will let those he cares about do whatever and have things happen to them, even if it causes them moderate levels of harm. Quite possibly he'll even still laugh at it if there's anything funny about it.

my god the wasted potential of tomorrow is just staggering
for a show that centered around suicide, i initially thought it was admirable the way they handled the subject matter by treating these stories with compassion and understanding (especially considering korea’s high suicide rate) but by the halfway mark, it just felt gross and voyeuristic to keep watching so much suffering and it frankly feels a bit irresponsible that all the cases were magically solved by a heartfelt conversation as opposed to any onscreen professional help
i also found joong-gil’s disdain for people who committed suicide to be extremely shitty and unnecessary, like i get it was part of his backstory but considering the show’s message was about hope and lifting these people out of despair, hearing this character say that people who commit suicide deserve to go to hell because they’ve committed the ultimate sin just feels needlessly cruel and directly at odds with the show’s core message
and on that note, the whole “suicide severs your red thread of fate” thing did not sit well with me either and i was digging into the general mythology around the red string of fate and couldn’t find anything about this so i think the show may have made that up, which also seems unnecessary - like, so much of the show was about showing compassion and kindness to people in their darkest moments but then the same show has this rule that harshly punishes people who commit suicide?? i felt like this show ended up undermining its own message, like yes, people who are suicidal should be treated with understanding and empathy but at the same time if you do commit suicide, fuck you go to hell and never see your loved ones again even in your next life
and then we get to the pacing and i have to scream because they had 16 episodes to weave in the reapers’ backstories but instead we got a handful of breadcrumbs about ryeon and had to wait until the last 3 episodes to get the full ryeon/joong-gil backstory, meanwhile they spent a whole ass episode on a suicidal DOG and don’t get me wrong that episode did make me cry but it also felt incredibly contrived and unnecessary and they gave ryung-gu 2 episodes to get closure with his mom yet ryeon and joong-gil only had the final episode to work through their centuries of baggage and they only had one convo about it???!?
and i know kdramas love connecting all their characters with a tidy bow but was it seriously necessary for jun-woong’s previous life to be tied to the old woman who had been a comfort woman during the war and also why would he reincarnate while she was still alive and could recognize him like that just made no sense to me and gave me terrible flashbacks to born again (which was another tragic waste of lee soo hyuk, sir, please get a better agent)
i have a specific issue with that episode in particular because while it was incredibly moving and important to give those women a voice, i felt like the show kind of cheapened that impact by tying in jun-woong’s backstory and then showing the same thing happening to ryeon centuries earlier. for one thing, i don’t think we needed that parallel to remember that women have been suffering for centuries (we been knew sis!) and for another, the story had enough weight and gravitas to stand on its own without tying it into the main characters. and we saw in episode 6 with the old soldier how effective the show was at honoring that man’s sacrifice and life and i just really wish they’d done the same with jeong-mun and yun-i’s case as well and focused on them instead of using that story as a vehicle for the main characters.
also i HATED ryung-gu’s nose-picking tick and i absolutely HATE that they wrote it into his backstory like bruhhhhh why the fuck was that necessary to make his gross habit an actual plot point
AND ANOTHER THING!! they really had lee soo hyuk and kim hee sun as reincarnated tragic lovers and barely gave them any scenes together and had lee soo hyuk as a grim reaper and hardly gave him any screentime at all like what the fuuuuuuck what a goddamn waste
to be fair, i did really like the main team and i thought the first half was effective and poignant but it fully fell apart for me in the second half and i hate how rushed the ending was
kdrama writers i am BEGGING you to learn how to properly pace a show please for the love of god it is 2022 we cannot be doing these sloppy and rushed 2000s-era endings anymore

Not as urgent or interesting as some of the stuff going on in other countries, but I wanna talk about something that happened in my country/city that has me disappointed but not surprised.
So last Saturday the Mexico City pride parade was held after a 2-year long pause due to the pandemic. Comparing it to the 2018 and 2019 parades, this one felt so much bigger and crowded than both of them combined (the official count said 250000 assistants, but it’s highly likely there were many, many more).
Tumblr media
Me and my friends got to the point of reunion at 11:45 AM, after half an hour of trying to swim through the crowd that was between the nearest subway station and this place. Between street vendors with food carts and huge flags and the people attending the parade, walking through the main street was already virtually impossible.
So by the time we finally got to the main event, we were tired, sweaty and uncomfortable, and also surrounded by so many people moving was extremely tedious. With the five of us being adults and able-bodied this wasn’t a very big issue, but there were several parents and wheelchair users who needed to yell at the people around to make space for them.
According to the report of local journalist and activist Láurel Miranda (as seen here and also here), many people actually started requiring medical assistance due to the crowd pressure, unable to breathe and move freely or even almost being trampled. Ambulances tried to get to them, but once again due to the massive crowd, it was very hard for them to get to the people who needed help quickly.
And while I’m usually a fan (and active participant) of informal commerce, there was a very big issue with street vendors parking their food carts in the middle of the crowd, forming lines around them and thus making the process of moving around even harder.
Side note– many of the street vendors selling pride merchandise that day were also part of a conglomerate of street vendors known for physically assaulting members of an LGBT autonomous commerce zone (massive cw for violence in the link). So, you know…
All in all, this turned a five minute walk on a normal day into an hour long struggle. So by the time we got to this point at 1 PM

We decided it was best to try and get away from the main parade crowd and walk trough the nearby streets to get to the final point of reunion of the parade instead.
It’s important to know that the parade was meant to start at 12 PM, then the organizers would give the signal for the first block to move, allowing everyone to go at their own pace and actually make the parade a parade instead of a gigantic mass of annoyed people standing there. However, by 1 PM the organizers still weren’t giving the signal causing people to start trying to push trough the first block to move, thus creating more chaos.
By the time me and my friends got to the final spot of the parade at 3 PM it had only been around 30 minutes since it officially started. And while annoying, it was also extremely weird because in previous years the organizations responsible for the parade were very professional and able to keep the flow of people without it causing any accidents.
Yes, this parade was bigger than the last ones, but also it wasn’t anything they weren’t prepared for, they’re veterans at this so why did they delay the start of the parade so much despite it being the main reason why people were getting actually hurt?
Well surprise! It was because the star of the show, the MC who would give a heartfelt speech for LGBT rights arrived at the scene an hour and a half late. And this MC was none other than the Mexico City governor.
Claudia Sheinbaum, governor and known pain in the ass, was a guest invited by the parade organizers (a non-government organization), a woman who belongs to the so-called only leftist party in Mexico also known for being responsible for the police tear gasing a peaceful protest held by parents of trans teenagers (and said teens) during trans day of remembrance, multiple attacks towards the LGBT autonomous commerce zone, and many, many more instances of repression towards the LGBT community… as well as being one of the responsible people for the collapse of a metro bridge in 2021 who killed 26 people, but that’s another story.
The governor had nothing to do in the parade, most of the people there hated her and her attempt at trying to look friendly towards the community will last until the next protest she decides to repress.
In conclusion? Politicians aren’t your friends, regardless of their position in the political spectrum. They only like you when you comply. Never stop holding them accountable, and never start trusting them.

This is way too broad to be useful, but pick one underdiscussed or underappreciated aspect of KH and sell me on it.
Dammit GG this is actually kinda hard! But if I had to pick, it's probably the sheer earnestness of it. It's not only an aspect I appreciate a lot, imo it's the ONLY thing that makes the series work.
Like yeah, KH1 is very earnest in that tween adventure, wholesome coming-of-age adventure sort of way that's not unusual for that kind of story, but it persists well after the plot goes turbo anime nonsense. It doesn't take itself overly serious in the sense that it purports to be an Important Take On The Human Condition but even when it flirts with the fourth wall, not ONCE does it try to back off from the stuff it is trying to talk about.
We've all been there, right? Had that indefinable-but-undeniably-there moment when a canon kind of winks at us and chuckles and lets us know it understands how fundamentally silly its premise is, that it's not actually cringey because we're all in on the joke together? At this particular moment in space-time, I could not come up with a specific example to save my life but I also KNOW that KH stands out because it doesn't do this and it doesn't loosen its iron grip on earnestness for a second.
KH is like, fuck that. It actually engages with its ridiculous bits in a way that never make the player feel embarrassed for buying into them. "Dude gets split in half then put back together because he is Special but his other half is still there because of that Specialness and becomes besties with someone he won't remember after she dies because of some bullshit we made up to facilitate a retcon" is objectively pretty eye-rolly, but KH doesn't roll its eyes. KH is like "wow would that be fucked up or what? How would someone's mental health actually be affected by that anime nonsense?" It isn't preachy but it is surprisingly thoughtful.
KH is like, it's fine to have big feelings about stuff! Your teenage angst is not embarrassing! And it applies to the positive things too. It's fine to be sappy and say saccharine and heartfelt things to your friend. It's fine to be silly without having to attach a disclaimer that you're actually a cool and mature person but felt like being temporarily silly. You can just be silly. Whatever emotions are happening in a given cutscene, KH turns them up to 11 and doesn't even consider the fact that there's anything weird about that.
Also, as a shorter second answer, I think KH is great because it doesn't care about specifically explain certain extremely lore-important concepts like the power of waking but it DOES care about explaining why Mickey Mouse didn't have a shirt at the end of the first game. I think that kind of laser-focus on extremely dumb details should be appreciated more.

**Release Tour**
When Sinners Fear by Hart De Lune
“Wow talk about heart wrenching!”
“This series has become my favorite dark romance series ever!!”
“It’s quite the feat to write a story such as this with a hero that should completely freak you out, yet whilst it's intensely dark, the romance aspect is once again absolutely beautiful in its own effed up way.”
“This is an extremely dark, violent, cruel and at times horrifying story, but it will consume you, fascinate you and you will not be able to put it down and the epilogue will restore your faith in humanity. I loved it!”
When Sinners Fear is the fourth book in the House Of Skin Series.
Get ready for a family you’ll hate to love.

Blurb
Science and study were the only important things to me. My life was a series of equations and problems to unlock, until Mom got sick.
I had no choice but to go home and step into her shoes - to help when she needed me. I cooked, I cleaned, and I looked after my family. We went to church on Sundays, and I listened to quiet prayers for a miracle cure so I could get back to my own life.
But I knew it wouldn’t come.
That’s where I met him. He spoke of math and truth, and he flattered me with words that made me blush. What came after that destroyed everything I knew. Knox Cortez took my innocence and shattered it.
Aggressive. Sharp. Brutal.
It made no sense to fall in love with the devil. And it made no sense to kill a man, either. But, somehow, I did both.
Note: The House Of Skin Series deals with themes some may be uncomfortable with. These are bad men who make no apologies for their particular trade. Please note there are TW for this book.

Prophecy of the Kudan
"Goshiki no Fune', or "The Five-Coloured Boat", is a novel written by Tsuhara Yasumi that was adapted by Kondou Youko into a manga in 2013. Note that I haven't read the original book, so I'll be going off the afterword from the manga when I talk about key differences between both versions.
Tumblr media
This was my very first exposure to anything Kondou. The manga is a perfect introduction to her authentic and heartfelt human dramas, all having some degree of relatability for any reader out there. No matter what you've experienced, she has a story to tell that will hit you deeply. In this case, with the original story being written by Tsuhara, you can see Kondou's ability to translate and adapt the novel into a medium that is able to freshly reshape the story. As she mentions in the afterword of this book, she had taken some creative freedoms with how certain characters from the original story were portrayed. There are small differences here and there with Tsuhara's story, but her changes are intended to smoothly transition the written story to one that can be consumed visually.
The main reason I wanted to write a post on this manga was because of the distinct plot point of the Kudan, a yokai typically identified as being a cow with a human's face. Sometimes, there are cases of it being the other way around with a human's body, but the creature is mainly known for its prophetic ability. Whatever it says will come true, which plays an extremely important role in 'Goshiki no Fune'. Here's some other sources that provide a summary on the yokai:
At least on the English side, I couldn't find as much information on the Kudan as I would have liked, but what's out there will give you a good enough idea of the creature.
The Troupe
Moving back to "Goshiki no Fune", the story follows a group of people who are apart of a freak show, helping each other survive as they live with their disabilities. For simplicity's sake, I'll be referring to them as the family throughout the post. Here's a brief description of the cast below:
Papa: the leader and creator of the troupe. He was a renowned actor that had to have both of his legs cut off because of gangrene
Shousuke: a dwarf that was found at a riverbank by Papa who acts as a strongman in shows
Kiyoko: a woman born with knees that bend backwards who is presented as a 'cow woman'
Sakura: a girl who was born as a Siamese twin and was successfully separated from her sister. She can't speak but can hear, and acts as a 'snake girl'
Kazuo: a boy born with deformed arms who is our main character. He can't speak nor hear but can still understand people, and paints with his feet in the troupe
Tumblr media
Shousuke pulling Papa and Kiyoko on a cart while Kazuo and Sakura walk behind
The beginning of this manga is an important one because it introduces a core idea that will be revisited towards the end of the story:
"Once I die and depart this world, my heart will return there once more/Back to that many coloured, tattered, lovely little boat."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The line above is narrated by Kazuo as we get a colourful view of the sea and the boat in question floating in the middle. We're introduced to Kazuo as he stares in awe at the boat the family lives in. The towering shadow of the boat is the first thing he encounters as he climbs out of a straw box, and he recognises that it signals the start of a new world for him. We can gather that he had been abandoned by his parents because of his disability, floating down the river until his box had washed up on the shore. Quite a sad start to the story already, even without yet knowing about his disabilities and struggles.
As the story progresses, we get to learn more about the origins of the family and how each person had been discovered by Papa. What is incredibly important, however, is Papa's motivation. The family is travelling to Iwakuni, the location where the supposed Kudan is kept in captivity. He explains the ability of the Kudan to predict the future and voices his determination to add the Kudan to the troupe's show. He believes that people will pay big money to hear their futures, and rightfully so. However, a condition not mentioned in the story is how the Kudan usually dies soon after giving a prophecy. This information was taken from the sites that I provided above that detail the Kudan's abilities that aren't explained in the manga, but it's an interesting point to note because it foreshadows some of the events that transpire later in the story. So, if you were familiar beforehand with the Kudan and knew about this condition to its prophecies, you would be able to figure out the general trajectory of the story earlier than the character's themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Various scenes of the family's show
The War
What's also interesting to note at this point in the story is the setting. The family are travelling through villages and towns in rural areas, but the second world war is being fought in the background as they put on their shows. We aren't given any dates or any visuals of the fighting, but the story is set somewhere towards the end of WW2, a timeline that becomes more apparent later on. Kondou does show the presence of soldiers scattered throughout the beginning of the manga to hint at this contextual period, but everything begins to escalate once we find out that the army is holding the Kudan.
Tumblr media
Kazuo and Sakura get a glimpse of the Kudan in the truck
The pages above mark the turning point of the story. Kondou depicts it in such a quiet and subtle way, making it very easy for readers to actually dismiss these important pages. The scribbles in the speech bubbles is the Kudan talking, and we're shown that both Kazuo and Sakura had taken a small glimpse of the Kudan in the back of the truck and heard its voice (top left panels of the picture). Nothing major immediately happens after this encounter, but we begin to see the effects of the Kudan on Kazuo and Sakura gradually.
Dejected after realising that the army's control of the Kudan meant that he wouldn't be able to use it for his show, Papa sets up camp near a shore. The family continue to put on their shows, but Papa is also trying to find another way to reach the Kudan. The doctor who had amputated his legs and who also saved Sakura, Inukai, is actually Papa's fan and lover. He helps Papa by sneaking him and the family into the facility where the Kudan is kept, bringing us to the climax of the story.
The Dream
Before I talk about the climax, we need to firstly look at what actually happens to Kazuo and Sakura after their encounter with the Kudan. Signs begin to surface when Kazuo starts to dream of the family's boat floating in the middle of the vast ocean. Another boat would appear out of nowhere, and Kazuo would have to watch in despair as each of the family members volunteer to join the other boat, leaving him behind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kazuo's sad dream/Kazuo's and Sakura's conversation
We also learn that despite both of them being unable to speak, Kazuo and Sakura can somehow communicate with each other. This method of conversing is unique to them because of their disabilities, so none of the other family members can understand them. Sakura, out of the blue, asks:
"Kazuo-san, is Papa going to get on another boat?"
This comes as a shock to both Kazuo and the reader as we realise that she had been having the same dreams as him. They quickly learn that because they had seen and heard the Kudan, both have been affected by the same dream. If we think back to the Kudan's prophetic abilities, it's inferred that the dream is some vision of the future. And now, with this knowledge of the prophetic dream that's affecting both children, we'll see how the climax with the Kudan plays out.
The Kudan's End
After being snuck into the army facility holding the Kudan, the family talk with it and learn of its prophecy: that Japan would be hit by an atomic bomb and lose the war. Whilst the Kudan explains all of this, it also gives another couple of predictions:
The Kudan itself would be killed soon
The first person to die out of them would be Dr Inukai, followed by the soldier, then Kazuo and Sakura in the atomic bomb
The soldier stationed with the Kudan is planning to kill it because he thinks that it's trying to deceive them. Shortly after explaining everything it needs to explain, the events play out as it had predicted. The Kudan is shot in the head by the soldier, who also kills Dr Inukai. Shousuke manages to kill the soldier but the Kudan doesn't have much time left before it dies. It asks the family for any requests they may have, to which they all express their desire for Kazuo and Sakura to have a better life, to be transported to a better world.
"To what sort of world shall I take them?" - Kudan "A world where Kazuo can go to school!" - Kiyoko "A world where they can both live happy lives." - Papa "A world where all of us can be happy!" - Sakura
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, after hopping on the Kudan, it falls and dies. What is predicted by Kudan happens, and Japan lose the war. A really notable part about this climactic scene is the ability of the Kudan to transport people into different worlds or timelines. The Kudan itself describes it with an analogy of moving from boat to boat, with the boat representing these timelines. It's an ability that I didn't see anywhere in my research of the Kudan, so this is something that was most likely added by Tsuhara himself and isn't canonical to the yokai. Though, it plays an insanely important role to the ending of the story and how the reader may interpret it.
The Rebirth
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the war, the family begins to see success and stability in their lives. With the technology of artificial limbs, both Kiyoko and Papa are able to walk again. Kiyoko becomes a celebrity and Papa returns to his rightful place in the theatre. Unfortunately, there wasn't any cure for Shousuke, but that doesn't stop him from becoming a wrestler. For Kazuo and Sakura, they both settle down after attending a school for the deaf, with Kazuo also acquiring some prosthetic arms.
The aftermath of the Kudan's death may seem like a simple one, but there's a deeper layer that we can dig at. Firstly, we need to revisit the Kudan's ability to move between different realities or timelines. It's able to take people and transport them between these timelines, but it died soon after Kazuo and Sakura jumped onto it. However, we also need to note that one of the conditions of the Kudan's prophecies was that it would die soon after giving it. The question now becomes whether it had died from the gunshot wound, or whether it died after transporting Kazuo and Sakura to a better world. Did the Kudan fail to transport the children, or did it do so successfully and then die?
This is a question that both Kazuo and Sakura think about. They remember that Dr Inukai had told Papa that it was a matter of where your heart was, which suggests that the Kudan didn't transport the children to another world. Their hearts still remained in the miserable world that feared the atomic bomb, a world where they had to survive in the freak show. But at the same time, the Kudan very much could have transported them to a different timeline where the atomic bomb was still dropped, but their lives afterwards would still be happy. Afterall, the only condition that was given to the Kudan was that it had to transport the children to a world where they could be happy. In the reality we're in right now with Kazuo and Sakura, the atomic bomb was dropped but they still lived happy lives after. Taking all of this into consideration, it gets you really thinking about the chances of both possibilities, of whether the timeline they're in right now is the original or a new one.
But, at the end of the day, it all doesn't matter to Kazuo and Sakura. Why? We revisit the core idea of the manga, introduced to us in the beginning narration:
"Once I die and depart this world, my heart will return there once more/Back to that many coloured, tattered, lovely little boat."
No matter what timeline they're in, both Kazuo's and Sakura's heart belong to the timeline where they met Papa, Kiyoko and Shousuke. The timeline where they were saved and grew close as family. The timeline where Japan faced an impending doom with the end of the war.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Our feelings will always remain in that world. That world may be an empty one where everything ended when that bomb fell. But once our fleeting lives here in this world end, we know that our hearts will return there. We will not run away. We will be standing there. On that tattered, multi-coloured, lovely boat." - Kazuo
Final Thoughts
"Goshiki no Fune" is one of the most memorable stories I've read in recent years. The combination of the unique cast, the subtle yet poignant setting and the centrepiece of the Kudan all mix together incredible well. Rereading this manga, and especially writing about this ending, had me very teary-eyed. Kondou does such a great job at pulling at your heartstrings. After following this family and their struggles, all you want to do is root for them and wish for their happiness. In a world where their disabilities limit their mobility, and the looming threat of the atomic bomb towers over Japan, the Kudan became their one hope. And after everything had happened with the passing of the war, it becomes clear that maybe the Kudan wasn't the key to their happiness. Their hearts will always belong in their original world - the same boat - no matter how hard it was to live in.
Thanks for reading! This was an emotional one to write about...

Fever Moon is back on the scene with a new release: Keepers Park
An eclectic album with a broad variety of influences and a very personal sound.
November 2022 - Fever Moon is a Japan-based band with a very broad creative scope. Its sound blurs the lines between post-punk, new-wave, alternative music and everything in between. At the core of if all, their vision is incredibly diverse and mercurial, highlighting Fever Moon’s ability to consistently make music that connects with people. The group’s most recent release, Keepers Park, is no exception.
The first thing you might notice about the album is its outstanding production quality. The songs have a raw charm, which tips the hat off to the 90s alternative and indie scenes. This was a time when records were made by people and it was important for bands to portray the connection between the members. Sadly, today’s rock scene is often leaning towards very overproduced concepts, and we’re definitely losing something important in the process. Thankfully, we still have some incredible bands like Fever Moon, who love to make music that is all about portraying the natural dynamics of a band and therefore, the genuine emotional responses that drive the music. Every note has a purpose, every drum hit is performed with pathos and intensity, and every bit of lyric comes from a very genuine experience.
Keepers Park features 11 original songs. The opener, “You” immediately stands out with some jangly guitars that might remind the audience of artists such as Sonic Youth or The Pixies. The vocals is gritty and emotional, perfectly matching the bittersweet instrumental backdrop. Another highlight is titled “Rose,” and it features a different sound, leaning towards modern indie rock and adding a bit more of a direct edge to the sound.
“Midnight on The Mountain” is another notable song. The track kicks the guitar tones up a notch, experimenting with a folky acoustic guitar interacting with a wall of fuzzy guitar. The vibe of this track is reminiscent of iconic indie stalwarts such as Dinosaur Jr. or Neutral Milk Hotel, only to mention but a few. The song “Corpus Chris” is an excellent ballad, which is based on acoustic guitar and piano. The lyrics are so introspective and personal, bringing a more intimate depth to the album. After an understated first half, the song opens up into a rockier arrangement. The title track itself allows the music to explore a more atmospheric tone. The delay and echo effects on the lead guitar add to the ambiance and space of the mix, while the vocals remain very heartfelt and viscerally emotional. The track “Giving Up The Beast” has a stringy acoustic guitar tone which is reminiscent of artists like Jeff Buckley in the intro, before exploding into what is probably one of the most popular moments on the entire track! The song “Midnight On The Mountain” is available in two different versions. One has lyrics in English, while the other offers a Japanese take on the track. Overall, the set list is extremely balanced, and the sequencing of the song unfolds in a smooth and pleasant way. The album takes the listener hand in hand almost like a sonic journey, and there is always room for so many wonderful things to happen and uplift the overall variety at the helm of this wonderful piece of music.
Definitely give this one a go if you like artists such as The Cure, Husker Du, DIIV, Dead Rituals, Cloud Nothings or The Replacements, among others.
Learn more about Fever Moon’s music, and listen to Keepers Park on your favorite streaming services.
