Taiyaki (glutenfree)

I recently purchased this electrical taiyaki iron. I have been looking for one with a reasonable price that will ship to Norway for many years! I am so happy right now. I made some with cheddar, and some with Nutella. Both were nice, but sadly the cheese was a bit bland and not very mature and could have been better. You really want cheese that packs some umami I think to balance the sweetness :)

I adapted one of the recipes from the notelet included.

Mix together:

3 1/2 cups gf cake flour ( I used Schär pattisserie)

4 tsp sugar

1 tsp salt

8 tsp baking powder

Add and mix well:

3 cups milk

Add and mix:

5 eggs

Add and mix well until fluffy:

1 cup or 2 sticks or 240gr butter, softened

I have seen people using metal spoons to spread the mix in the pan, but I would suggest using a wooden spoon or a silicone spatula instead in order to not harm the non stick coating.

As you can see the recipe calls for a lot of butter. You can find all kinds of variants of batter if this sounds like too much to you. I will however say that this made them satisfyingly crunchy on the outside and wickedly soft and moist on the inside, and then you can decide for yourself :)

In the past, anything brought to him would've gone through Nemu. She was no more, and though Nemuri Hachigō was mroe than capable, she was not yet trusted with deliveries made to the 12th division.

The gift made its way to Mayuri all the same ( granted, there weren't actually that many things that got delivered to him in the first place ). If he WAS going to receive anything, today would be the day. The date of his birth. Like many in Soul Society, he had grown up without parents, and his exact birthday was something he had calculated himself just out of curiosity. It bore no significance to him, and would often pass by unnoticed. He was far too busy for such matters anyway.

UNLESS - there were sweets involved.

The box was simple in nature. Sterile, almost. Certainly fitting from the 4th division. Mayuri certainly preferred Isane over the previous captain. He wondered if that was an unpopular opinion.

He opened the letter first. It was polite and quite nice. He was certain that the delivery had been made with some sort of request. He would make sure that said request was followed up on. He always wanted to be agreeable towards those who treated him with respect. With kindness. To - perhaps - encourage more of that. He swayed his legs back and forth ( he was too short to reach the floor ) while he read the letter one more time.

Such nice phrases, rarely bestowed upon him.

Next, it was time to open the box. His hopes were met. Chocolates were revealed. They looked so tasty! He rubbed his hands, wondering if he should have them with some tea or just eat them straight away.

Yes, he would be sure to grant whatever request the 4th division was making.

Making the Goosander Card

This male Goosander was swimming in the river Nidd near Pateley Bridge in Yorkshire. I was able to take this photograph which I later used to make a card.

The video outlines the method I use. I do all the graphics work on an iPad using a graphics App called Procreate and an Apple Pencil. I make use of multiple layers and use various brushes to achieve the final image. This is exported as a jpeg file and printed onto 200gsm Watercolour Paper. Finally the cards are trimmed to size.
