Ugrrrr.... HBO, why are you doing stuff like that? Why? I'm nine episodes into Rome and this is how you treat actual historic figures? Why not make up character then or use the actual drama instead of spitting on real people's grave?
WHY?????

They didn't know we were seeds
Chapter 7
Cw: infidelity, mentions of incest, sex trafficking
@emotionalcadaver @justrainandcoffee @peakyswritings @call-sign-shark
Tumblr media
They are in the Justice Hall in his district, laughing and sneaking around like real lovers. They hide in an attic, disheveled and spent as they lay together in a dirty rug. Done in secret because they could die if Changretta knew.
Snow didn’t give a shit what went on as long as it didn’t bring any disruptions in his government. Two victors fucking provided good gossip in the Capitol and at most ideas in those who solicited sex from them, no one in the districts cared about that when they are busy trying to survive.
They began as allies and now they were friends and something a little more than just that. It was just comfort in having sex because you want to with someone who you can be yourself with. Eva was the only one Jack felt truly comfortable being this vulnerable with even if he was pretty adept at the whole sex without feelings shit too.
Despite what she did, Jack cannot help himself like her. He supposed it was because no one could truly understand what he was going through unless they were stuck in the same hell as him.
“I hate her you know, Tigris.” She says when he brings up her winning strategy. “Said it was the strategy the first District 12 victor used to win.”
They hardly talk about Laurie, or the Capitol or anything relating to the games. But he’d noticed her penchant of wearing black ---her new favorite color--- and asked about her former stylist who’s faded into obscurity as a fur underwear designer.
“You hate her because it worked.” He holds her hand as if it wasn’t his brother who died because of it and for her sake doesn’t continue this conversation. “I suppose if Lucy Gray could fall for her mentor and he for her, two tributes could do the same.”
“I didn’t know that; it was back when mentors were Capitol students wasn’t it?” Eva asks and turns to her side with her undivided attention.
“Lucy Gray won because Coriolanus Snow fell in love with her.” Jack then begins a tale so strange she has to wonder if he drank more than he should have at dinner.
The President was Tigris cousin, they were poor, he was Lucy Gray’s mentor at the tenth games, he was best friends with Sejanus Plinth who hailed from 2 from the exact village Jack’s family is from. Lucy Gray had a rainbow dress just like hers and Snow a suit just like Dustin’s at the interview when they won. Snow was made a Peacekeeper as punishment while all records of the games were destroyed because the Head Gamemaker caught him cheating.
Only no one expected for Servilla Plinth to tell her little sister in her encrypted letters home and for said sister to tell her grandson when he confided in her about his plan to kill Eva after the president’s visit.
Snow and Sejanus were stationed in 12th where the latter was tried for treason and Lucy Gray murdered by the Mayor when Snow was pardoned and returned to the Capitol. Snow didn’t want anyone to even remind him of that nor the possibility that he killed his best friend.
It explains why Snow wanted Eva dead, come to think of it. Tigris had reminded him of how he got there, something only people ashamed of their past hated.
And now he shares that secret with her in this dank attic where only the rats and insects can hear and see them.
She is not angry at him for agreeing to kill her, said she would’ve done the same for her brothers and then kissed him like she loved him. Like she kissed Laurie before her failed murder-suicide.
“We should go, they’ll be looking for us.” He says before things spiral out of control.
Tumblr media
Eva returns to the Capitol to find her protector dead.
In his place stands the leader of the Peaky Blinders, Thomas Shelby.
Unlike Luca he did not stick to the business world for his cover, Tommy Shelby had bought himself a minor post in the government along with a wife who knew all the right people.
Eva found her grating, like nails on a chalkboard. Her ignorance could be forgiven, but there was just something about Grace Burgess that she just flat out disliked. Maybe her phoniness put her off.
“I do not suppose you will be taking up the arrangement your predecessor and I had before you did away with him?” the victor has no idea what to expect from him. While it was obvious his marriage was as cold as his eyes, not all men liked the idea of sticking to one mistress. The rumors of him and the secretary were true given her boyfriend was found murdered recently and his wife was also known for having her own secrets.
No one was sure who the son belonged to, both men had identical coloring and high cheekbones.
“He protected you from the rest of them, didn’t he?” Shelby lights a cigarette and does this thing where he rubs it against his lower lip that she finds interesting. Sexy even.
Jack wouldn’t like that, but Jack hates most men around her anyways.
“Yes, for the price of not fucking anyone else, I got everything I wanted and some more.” As far as these arrangements went, hers with Luca was perfect. If they had met in better circumstances, they would’ve made a great couple.
“A good thing he never learned about your affair with Jack Nelson.” His lips hide the smirk very well, but his eyes don’t. Speaks more with those eyes of his than his lips.
“Ah, so it was your work that night?” the security footage hadn’t been given to Luca so no one could prove what happened after Jack tore her diamond collar in the balcony. As far as Luca knew, Jack hated her for killing Laurie and was only nice when people were around. “I should thank you.”
“Thank me after you show me who would benefit most from a protector.” He suggests with contempt for the practice in every word.
“Cashmere, some pay for her and her brother and force them together.” Eva let her venom through. No one was supposed to know as incest was still as illegal as pedophilia, but all victors knew the sort of hell the siblings from 1 got. “Would you like for me to make the introduction, or do you think you can pretend this conversation never happened?”
Snow hated when victors meddled and tried to make it less awful for each other. Inspires rebellion, Luca told her once, if the districts knew we can all work together, Snow would fall from his throne.
That day cannot come soon enough.
“I can handle that, but I do have a favor to ask you.” He drinks his whiskey betraying nothing as he hands her his business card.
“Ask away.” These favors don’t work out for her, it’s how she ended up smuggling contraband for Luca in exchange for keeping her off the roster their first year together. But she finds herself trusting this stranger.
“Arrange a meeting with Gamemaker Heavensbee, your stylist and myself.” He doesn’t mean the current one, he means Tigris Snow.
It won’t be that difficult, Fulvia Cardew was a friend of Clemens and he must know how to reach Tigris. In fact, by the time Matty’s traumatic stress appears during fireworks show later that evening, its already scheduled.
Tommy Shelby doesn’t pay her back with flowers, clothing nor jewels, he pays her for the service with a deed to a small farm on the northern border of her district.
So close she could reach district 2 or even 11 by completely bypassing the guard towers along the border. If the fence wasn’t on, nothing would stop her from going or someone going out.
The question is: why?

Daughters of the Triumvirates
Tumblr media
Once again using a Total War: Rome 2 mod that allows factions that can’t otherwise to use women generals, I started a couple Imperator Augustus campaigns specifically to give overlooked daughters of two blowhard Romans the chance to be more than bargaining chips for political marriages. For the first I played as the Pompeian faction and allowed Pompeia Magna, daughter of no less than Gnaeus Pompey Magnus, to take over her brother Sextus’s armies, leading them to victory over Octavian and his supporters.
Tumblr media
So I actually won with a Conquest Victory many turns ago, but here’s the map of the latest save. Tired of being married to losers named Cornelius, Pompeia made herself legatus of Legio I Equestris, spearheading the Pompeian invasion of Italy. Soon after, her sister-in-law, Servilla Calida, followed her example by taking over II Ferrata and even helping her sack Rome.
Tumblr media
Allying with the Marcomanni, the Pompeians routed Octavian and his allies, taking over much of Gaul before diverting a couple legions east against the Getae. Before the ashes of Octavian’s funeral pyre were even cold, Cleopatra VII came asking for aid in her war against Lepidus and his allies. Though Cleo wouldn’t live to see Lepidus’s defeat, Pompeia and I Equestris played a pivotal role in his defeats in Africa while Servilla and II Ferrata were part of a multi-pronged offensive into Spain. Now allied with Mark Antony, the Pompeian legions are currently deployed at peacekeeping in conquered territories or at helping Antony mop up what’s left of his shattered enemies.
Tumblr media
Annoyingly, the Augustus campaign’s mechanics don’t allow Pompeia to assassinate her brother or usurp his legacy to declare herself empress. Regardless, this was a pretty terrific and hard-hitting campaign. I was hoping to do the same kind of thing with Octavia, but for whatever reason she doesn’t show up anywhere in the campaign. I am, however, currently playing as Antony’s faction and letting his daughter Antonia lead a legion against the Parthians. Planning to do a write up for that campaign next.
Thanks so much for reading, folks! Take care and stay awesome!

Title: Generations
Timeline: First Part - between Red Rising and Golden Son (circa 738-739 PCE); Second Part - between Morning Star and Iron Gold (circa 749 PCE)
Characters: Alexandar au Arcos, Darrow of Lykos, Lorn au Arcos, Pax au Augustus
.
.
.
Alexandar au Arcos watched in awe as his grandfather - the Master of the Willow Way Lorn au Arcos - trained the latest and the most infomous of Institute champions - the ArchPrimus Darrow au Andromedus. Now a lancer of House Augustus, his grandfather decided to take him as his student, the first in more than 30 years.
They called him the Reaper of Mars and they said he slayed a Bellona boy with his bare hands. They, being a pair of careless Praetors that talked in the boardRoom, very unaware of a child hiding in plain sight - a secret hideout carved into a marble column. He should tell his grandfather of his stellar spying techniques, but then he would be forbidden from utilizing them again.
Darrow au Andromedus looked every bit the killer he was. Taller than his grandfather, with wide, strong shoulders, he had a savage, cold danger about him that froze everyone off. He moved beautifully, without wasting any movement. He worked hard to master the Willow Way, but he had the right skills for it, otherwise Lorn au Arcos wouldn't waste time with him. He came specifically for him to Agea, although the stronghold of House Arcos is in Elysium.
The trainning razor made harsh whipping sounds in a flurry of fast motions - as Lorn's bo staff came down aiming for the Reaper's head, he ducked a bit and whipped it in half. The two halves were near his torso. That was quality right there, he's been trainning for a few weeks and he's become this good. It was almost terrifying - he didn't understand whether his grandfather was creating a monster or adopting a son.
As soon as his grandfather saw him watching, he asked him to leave, 'This is no place for children,' he muttered in a slashing tone. He didn't wait to be told twice.
The next day, he woke himself at the crack of dawn and sneaked into the trainningRoom. He planned to imitate the movements he saw yesterday with an actual practise razor, no more half-arsed stuff on the balcony garden using twine and sticks. As he entered with his eyes at the closing door, he exhaled with relief.
'You must be Lorn's grandson, Alexandar!,' the Reaper's voice echoed in the room and stopped the child's heart in his tiny chest. His back jumoed against the wall by sheer instinct. The man was twirling a bo-staff in his right hand with the ease of a Circus Violet and he looked like he's been practising for a bit, before he arrived.
'You know, I have a friend who is just as sneaky as you are. Yet, if you want to learn the Willow Way without Lorn's knowing, you'll need more than watching me and then sneaking in here to practise later.'
'Would you...be willing to help me?', he was scared of him, but held his gaze as he tried to calm his heartbeat.
'Well, Lorn is strict and rigurous teacher. I might as well have some fun when it presents itself,' he shruged. 'By the way, you might want to look for blueprints of this mansion, just in case you'll need to get in and out of here without anyone noticing you. I don't mind Lorn being upset at me, but while I might get some muscle aches, you might get into a nastier situation.'
'What's your friend's name?'he asked, making mental notes to check the blueprints later.
'Sevro', he smiled. 'His name is Sevro.'
Alexandar approached Darrow and reach out his hand, 'Well, it's nice to meet you, Darrow! I mean, teacher!'. Darrow shook Alexandar's small hand and smiled. He very much liked the kid.
'Due to the restraints, I'll just teach you and help you practise the basiscs every dawn. Now, go warm up.'
.
.
.
When Servilla au Arcos asked him to take Alexandar, her son, as his lancer, Darrow smiled remembering the boy who found the courage to look him in the eyes after he spooked him. Not a few minutes into trainning for the first time, he confessed to telling everyone from the family and the staff that the Reaper of Mars eats glass.
He invited Alex to dinner with the Howlers and the ebthusiastic youth hit it off quickly. He sneaked on Sevro, took his favourite toothpick from his boot and slammed it into the huge, tender stake on Sevro's plate. Sevro then proceeded to make a fuss, but accepted the boy, semi-reluctantly. Screwface and Clown kept trying to tempt him into a nasty drink off, while Peeble declared him a worthy Pup, the very first the Howlers ever officially had.
During a Willow Way training session, Darrow's voice echoed from the trainningRoom: 'How are you going to teach my son what I taught you at his age, if you aren't holding your posture right?'. He was carrying his son on his big shoulders. The child looked exactly like the Reaper. Their smiles were different, though, Pax looked more like his mother, the Sovereign, when he smiled.
'Apologizes, sir,' he gave a tired nod.
'You are my lancer, Alexandar, because you deserve it. I've known you since you were a wee one who spread scary rumours about me. I had my offers and pleas and only you got the job, because it's only you I trust,' he put Pax down and gave him a practise razor.
'Now, you can practise the basics with Pax, sunce you look like you need to revise them again. I do worn you, he knows the sequences with his eyes closed.' He retreated at the back of the room, pulled out a book from a shelf and sat in a wooden chair.
'Hi, kiddo! I'm Alex! Did you know I made up the rumour about your da' eating glass?'. Pax's cristalline laugh ecjoed in the room.
'Start, already!'
I ended up writing a small one-shot about my favourite Pup, Alexandar au Arcos. It's all @m-austinbooks 's fault, because she reminded me of how much Darrow loved Alex. And now everyone shall cry with me because why not. I am a lousy writer, but I am ok with this piece, so...YAY, i guess!

THESE ARE ALL GOOD ANSWERS i need to read more on anne of cleves and also SO MANY SHE DID THAT MOMENTS .... "go and look for them now" really set the stage for so many of these though...an icon
THANK YOU!!! i tried to best articulate how i feel about all of them but mostly it’s just a wild screaming of #SHEDIDTHAT but how else can we describe such things??? other than what they are????
Honestly though this is so true like Atia of the Julii was the forerunner... #shedidthat... before anyone else #didthat.
TBH THIS JUST REMINDED ME i had completely forgotten about “Atia of the Julii, I call for justice” LIKE!!!! SERVILLA #DIDTHAT.
I feel like looking back at this the main take away is I am passionately in love with any scenes in historical drama that involve a woman taking violent vengeance (or at least threatening violent vengeance). and frankly?? i’m okay with that. I feel like that speaks to me.

They didn't know we were seeds
Chapter 4
Cw: snakes, death, murder, suicide
@justrainandcoffee @emotionalcadaver @call-sign-shark @peakyswritings
Tumblr media
When she accepted Laurie’s outstretched hand that morning, it never occurred to her that she may have to kill him.
Eva had been too caught up in being safe while she was with him playing the love-struck girl ---only partially as Laurie was every teenage girl’s dream and she was no different--- that it never crossed her mind.
Not when he killed Tullia when she tried to drown her while they bathed, not when they broke away from Mink and Diamond while they sabotaged them and not even when Marlin was killed for what they did.
They are barely at the seventh day of the games and now they were down to four.
Basil, the boy from eleven, never arrived for his pack at the Feast. Neither did Diamond, only Mink so frantic in opening his pack that he didn’t notice Laurie behind him until he slit his throat.
There are bites on Mink’s legs, little bites that spell death within the hour.
Their clothing provided some cover, but these fangs had torn through the fabric and by the looks of the blood still leaking through the bites, these were venomous.
Mutations even Eva had never encountered in her life. Eva knew what to do with tracker jacker stings, with the wasps that mixed with them and had a similar effect, and even how to make anti venom for all sorts of snakes, but this bite was too fine and too deep to be a regular snake.
“Snake mutts,” she warns as a canon goes off along with Mink’s. There is no way of telling who it belonged to until nightfall and it was still noon. They take the remaining packs with them to ensure they give chase.
Only three people left in the game. Eva prays her murderer is not Laurie.
“Do you have snakes in your district?” Eva asks as they return to the only source of water left in the arena, where Diamond or Basil will come even if it means their death.
There had been a fire to force the survivors to the oasis and end the games before sundown it seems. The same oasis that Mink had left covered in snake bites.
“Towards the south, I grew up in the north with my mom and my brother.” He answers as he leads the way back, trusting her not to drive her knife into his back.
Laurie really likes her, so much he stole a kiss from her when they set the stockpile of supplies on fire, and she kissed him back like she meant it. They hold hands sometimes; she always makes sure to sleep near him. First because she was afraid the others would attack her in her sleep and then because she enjoyed it too much to stop.
He could kill her if he wanted to. Slit her throat with her own knife while she is snuggled up beside him in their shared sleeping bag, snap her neck when he hugs her close in his sleep.
She could kill him too.
Poison their water supply, his food or even take advantage of his bad choice of trusting her.
If they killed whoever the hovercraft picked up, it would be down to the two of them. He is much stronger and faster than her, better fighter than even the Peacekeepers back at 10.
“Jack said he saw a man kill one with a stick while he was there on his tour last year.” He mentions. His twin’s victory had elicited some envy and admiration from him. Jack was born first, slightly taller and a favorite of their grandfather who saw the son he never had.
They had no father; their mother had wanted a family but never a man to control her like her father did. Their granddad, a stonemason, was harsh, he’d survived the dark days as a boy, and it had never given its hold on him.
Servilla Plinth, Strabo Plinth’s wife was his grandmother’s elder sister and that made them kin to the Plinth Family who earned their way into the Capitol and later made President Snow their heir. Made their granddad resentful to the point Laurie’s mother got a job at the main city just to get away from him and his anger before it rubbed off on them.
Instead, the old man’s influence had made Jack volunteer at his next reaping to show their mother was undeserving of their grandad's derision. Turns out Jack never liked the way the old man treated her and his wife.
And now Laurie was here to leave no doubts that their mother would never be looked down on by anyone. No one else has had two victors in their family in their district.
“I heard about it. One of the maids at the Justice building told us about it when she came to buy more calming tea for the mayor’s wife, they gave the rattle to your brother as an apology gift for interrupting dinner, I think.” Eva wonders what his strategy is to get rid of her. Will he wait until she is distracted or asleep enough not to hear him? Will he finish what Tullia started and drown her?
Then she thinks of Clemens' advice.
It’s not difficult to make a boy or a girl fall for her, Eva doesn’t even have to know she’s doing that to get someone to like her that way. It just happens, just like it did with Laurie.
Could she turn the tables on him and have him completely at her mercy?
Her two kills had been with tricks, with a cactus with too much alkaline. The others had been Laurie’s doing.
Eva never thought she would have to kill him and her heart breaks because as much as she’d tried to stop it, she likes him.
Perhaps not love him, but had they ever had a chance, she could have.
“He still has it, said some cryptic shot about how the games never truly end. Life is just another big arena.” He continues talking as if nothing had changed.
He hopes whoever is already at the oasis will kill her and he can be the hero who avenged her. Diamond will want her dead because of Mink, because she and Tullia distrusted her from the beginning.
Basil will kill her anyways because he knows he stands a better chance at killing Laurie than she can.
“He’s not wrong about that, if you don’t work you starve, if you aren’t careful you die. I suppose we don’t have to worry about another human being killing you as much as we do here.” Incredibly wise words from a boy engineered to kill for entertainment. “Actually, this gives me an idea.
Use me as bait.”
That way they don’t have to kill each other.
Laurie is so taken aback by it that it takes him a while to sputter a no.
“They could kill you!” he says as she makes them stop as they load the important things each pack has into one of them.
Theirs had a food, water, anti-venom, and armor. Well, his had armor, she had stolen the one meant for Diamond even if she was taller than her.
“But you would kill them in revenge. If one of us must die here, it should be me. You have your family back home. I don’t.” They had felt bad when they saw the photographs of their family in them to remind everyone that Eva didn’t have a mother, a father, or a sister or even a brother to come home to.
She had her aunt and her cousins, but her pack only had a scarf that doubled as a shawl that her mother once owned.
She could strangle someone with it. Or she could be killed with it. A painful death either way.
If it’s not Laurie who kills her, she will be fine.
“If I have to die, I don’t want you to be the one holding the knife.” Eva says quietly, taking the pack with the big number 1 on it and leaving before he can stop her.
The capitol must be eating this up, tragic romances always play well in the games. Even gets people in the districts to root for them. She wonders who is rooting for them back home.
She wonders who they upset at the Gamemaker’s table when she sees the oasis overrun by colorful snakes. The trees, the grass and even the rocks are overrun by these colorful monstrosities.
Eva only sees Basil run to her like mad with snakes wrapping around him, slithering up his legs and some even standing about half their height in effort to find something to bite. But its too late, some have already bitten him and his only way to survive was the anti-venom in the backpack.
And he won’t have that, because the moment he tackles her, Laurie’s managed to lodge a knife into his shoulder.
Eva hadn’t needed saving, all she needed was to let the venom take its course or help it along by taking one of the mutts and letting it sink its teeth into Basil’s neck. She also could’ve let herself die here and give Laurie a clear chance at winning.
But she hadn’t. Because all her talk about dying was just that, talk.
Eva’s hand is still holding a mutt by its head when Laurie comes to help her up.
He’s in love with her, she can see it in the way his face is marred with worry for her, how relieved he is that she is okay and the realization that one of them is going to die for the other.
And because it hurts her to know he loves her even if he’s never said it, Eva is going to make history by denying the games their victor.
“I’m sorry, Laurie.” Eva kisses Laurie like his love is returned and he is so caught up in it as he tries to dry her tear with his thumb that he doesn’t feel the snake until it bit his neck.
Laurie is too disorientated to react with anything but a harsh shove and the last thing he sees is her using the same mutt that bit him on her own wrist.
Only one canon sounds. Eva knows it’s not hers. How stupid of her to think the Capitol would allow their games to have no victor.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, the winner of the 61st Hunger Games, Eva Smith of District 10.”

alex/rhonna for the ship game?
You are very sadistic, anon!
Who was the one to propose:
Alex proposed one day when everything was peaceful and he was so blissfully happy, he didn't know what could possibly make the day better. And then he did.
Who stressed more over wedding planning:
Their parents were quite the annoying with the ppanning, so they asked Darrow and Virginia if they can get married on a mission, so the royal couple had to invent one thatvincluded the annoying loved ones.
Who decorated the house:
Servilla did. Rhonna didn't truly care and Alex just wanted space and quality. Servilla devorated it with gusto, but also used a lot of sentimental stuff - Rhonna has a garage where she can tincker with her mech and it has pictures and mementos in a corner, where she could see them. For Alex, she included a sparing ground and a corner dedicated to all his throphies.
Who does the cooking:
Alex is a pretty good cook. He makes her dinner when she is tired.
Who is more organized:
Alex. Rhonna is very disciplined, but being Darrow's Lancer made Alex an organization stickler.
Who initiates bedroom fun:
Alex likes to touch her and plant little chaste kisses every now and then, he would caress her softly for a few seconds and so on. Almost to just make sure she is there, so when Rhonna jumps his bones, he is a bit surprised, but he really shouldn't.
Who suggested kids first:
Rhonna. The matter of kids was always up to her as far as Alex was concerned. He could pick an heir from his cousins' children as far as he was concerned. She dictated this. If she wanted to use clonning or carving or whatever, he was completely down for it.
Who’s more dominant:
Alex is more teasing, but Rhonna is wilder.
Who’s the cuddler:
Alexandar. He just loves to cuddle with her. Rhonna won't admit it, but she likes it more than she lets on.
What’s their favorite non-sexual activity:
HoverBike rides, fun, little games they got used to playimg with the Howlers, dancing - they are great dancers!
Who comes home drunk at 3am:
Again, if Sevro mixes, both get very drunk home.
Who kills the spiders:
Rhonna. Alex pretends he doesn't see them, because he doesn'tvlike touching them.
Who falls asleep first:
Alexandar. Rhonna falls asleep by counting his breaths ans heartbeat. She needs reassurance.
Their relationship summed up in a gif:

So if Romulus is dead, shouldn't Diomedes rule the House Raa?
No, because by that logic, Cassius should have been Primus of House Bellona after Tiberius died. Tiberius died in the Lion Rain and Julia became the Primus. Cassius remained the heir. His self-imposed exile could be interpreted as him giving up his rights, but 🤷🏻‍♀️.
Now, I believe that Dido is Consul and Primus of House Raa after Romulus died. I think it would have been mentioned if Diomedes became Primus.
It's not unheard of - Virginia is Sovereign and Primus of House Augustus, Nero was ArchGovernor and Primus, and so on.
Julia and Dido have been treated as outsiders - Julia had to get what she wanted behind the scenes, because she is originally from a less powerful House and she had to stay in Tiberius shadow. Dido comes from an equally powerful House, but from the wrong part of the Solar System, ao she too had to grab power in her own ways. Yet, just like Servilla au San, no one questioned their capabilities to be Primus of the House the married into, because they earned the right.
Servilla married into House Arcos and led it ever since Lorn died. She is dead now and Alexandar and his cousins too, but there are another two Arcos women who kick arse, so one of them is surely Primus.
In the medieval era, it would be normal for the male heir to take the role of head of the house after his father died, but this is not that era or the ASOIAF medieval inspired fantasy. This is the 8th century PCE, the mother/widow has all the rights.
I think it's different for people with multiple marriages. Agrippina au Julii had two husbands, but after she died, none of them touched her stuff or her position. Victra was her heir, so that made it easier for her to get back her birthright from Antonia. Or, let's say, Nero's 3rd wife, she never claimed the Primus position, maybe because she had no child of her own, or maybe because she knew not to stand in Adrius's way 🤷🏻‍♀️.
I think Agrippina au Julii is way too underestimated in the fandom...STAN THE OG JULII QUEEN, YOU COWARDS! She was as awful as Nero, that's why they never married. I bet they were too similar, lol.
Later edit: Basically anyone can be heir, though. Karnus was the oldest Bellona child, but Cassius was his father's favourite. It's not exactly the rule of the firstborn. It's a prefferance thing more than anything. Although Kavax certainly loves all of his children, he most probably thought that Daxo would be the best suited to be Primus one day. He was already helping his father, especially in political matters.
Howl on!
