By it's aesthetics, this is one of the coolest stages I've ever seen in a Mario game, and I'm disappointed that none of the other levels really get this wacky, and it's a little sad that the 2D Mario series never went this wild with the stage design after that.

I know Daisy is still (rightfully) the focus of a lot of the Mario Wonder hype, but I have to talk about Toadette being in and playing identically to Mario because she’s had a legendary ascent over the past 20 years.
Toadette started off as a roster-filler turned spinoff semi-regular. She was in a similar role to Daisy and Waluigi, albeit with significantly less fan regard since she A) wasn’t human and B) didn’t have a personality nearly as defined or loud as the other two.
She had a few standout moments in the DS/Wii era like getting a board in Mario Party DS (which gave some much-needed detail to her personality) and cameoing in the intro of Mario Galaxy (and as we know, spinoff characters getting acknowledged in the mainline games is a rare feat). However, she still hadn’t established herself as a core fixture of the series. NSMBW chose generic Toads over her, the Mario & Luigi series (pre Paper Jam) paired Toadsworth with OCs and generic Toads instead of her, and it was a coin flip whether she’d appear on the roster of a given side game. Nothing wrong with that, that’s just where she was at the time.
Toadette started to ramp up a bit in the 3DS/Wii U era. In particular, she was a main playable character in Treasure Tracker, arguably the most maintain-adjacent spinoff, and she was a major character in Mario & Luigi Paper Jam, an appearance that really helped solidify her personality, as would be seen in Mario Maker 2.
Then, for whatever reason, Nintendo went all-in on Toadette on the Switch. She was an NPC in Odyssey, putting her more solidly in the mainline series. She was playable in NSMBU Deluxe, albeit as a slight easy mode with access to the powerful Super Crown and more 3-Up Moons. She appeared as a playable character in Mario Maker 2 and took a major role in the story mode. Said story mode’s portrayal was in line with Paper Jam, making her the creative ideas gal and (weirdly anti-labor) Head Toad.
Now with Mario Wonder she’s made it to the top. She’s a playable main character in the newest mainline game with no caveats. She’s not an easy mode, she plays exactly like Mario himself. And given that she has plenty of playable appearances and an actual personality under her belt, I’d say she’s overtaken Buckenberry and Alagold in prominence.
My girl went from a GameCube-era spin-off character that could’ve been abandoned like Koopa Kid or Toadsworth to a full-fledged hero and main(ish) character. I’m proud of her and look forward to her inevitably supplanting Mario as series mascot by 2030/j

Full thoughts/concerns about Mario movie Peach
Hi, I feel like my initial post on the matter didn’t fully explain my thoughts or have a lot of context. (but wow, I’m shocked so many people agree with it-)
Tumblr media
First I gotta state the obvious. I love women, I love female characters. I keep seeing accusations about people not liking the direction of Mario movie Peach coming from “dudebros”, and while I’m sure they exist, they are merely a vocal minority I assure you. Most of the concerned people are women that love Peach!
Princess Peach is a character that was important to me as a child (along with a lot of female video game characters), I love the Mario games where she is a part of the cast rather than a damsel. So while I’m very glad she isn’t a damsel in distress for this movie…
I have problems with the presentation and implication, which is that Mario and Luigi could be possibly depicted being inferior to Peach. My criticisms come purely from a place of love.
Mario being bumbling isn’t out of the ordinary, and him being a fish out of water is okay, but it could get annoying fast if Peach has to do everything. I’m not too fond of “delicate scaredy Luigi” being a damsel that people kinda… fetishize either.
Why does Peach need a halberd? It just seems out of character and kind of tacky. What’s wrong with her using her parasol? It could be intimidating in the right hands. Not sure why she needs to fight in her biker costume either, the appeal of Peach for me is that she goes out to fight in an elegant dress.
Peach can be aggressive and assertive while still being cute. We see in the comics, the Super Show, the BS SNES game, Paper Mario, and the OVA… from what we see in the trailer, this Peach doesn’t have any of that.
In fact, she feels… kind of boring. Which is a problem most of these “girlboss” movie archetype characters have. There’s little to no substance with Peach outside of her being “badass”.
In my initial post, I said the “girlboss” thing would have suited Princess Daisy much better. I want to emphasize the fact that Daisy, outside of spin-off games and Smash, hasn’t been been given anything character related in DECADES.
This would have been the perfect time to give her a new, fresh characteristic and personality, not Peach, who already has a grounded character.
Toadette could have also been the “halberd wielding cute badass girl”, because… honestly, outside of being Captain Toad’s partner, I feel like they should be doing more with her.
Peach also hasn’t been a damsel in… 3 years, that being in NSMBU Deluxe. She rarely gets kidnapped now. In the Mario+Rabbids game, she’s an equal amongst the party and it’s ******** (censored for spoiler reasons) that needs to be rescued instead.
So Peach not being a damsel actually isn’t anything special. If anything, it’s the norm for her to be a part of the group. It’s been that way since SMB2 and SMRPG. I don’t know why people treat it like it’s some kind of breakthrough.
Tl;dr: My issues with Mario movie Peach isn’t that she won’t be a damsel, it’s that she won’t be Peach. She’ll just be generic kids movie girlboss cliché. And she deserves better than that! I like a lot of the characterizations in the film so far and don’t want her to be… well, a stock character, while everyone else feels like a ringer to their game counterparts.
… also I don’t think her voice is very good. Like Pratt!Mario is so bored that it’s actually funny to me, but Peach is just ehh…

Very quick Nintendo Direct thoughts before I start getting ready for work, I thought it was a pretty shitty direct. Like literally all the best things about it were remakes...
Mario vs Donkey Kong is thankfully not another "guide the minis to the end" game, it's a remake of the GBA game, which I never finished, and would like to. But I wish they would have done something more interesting with the art direction, it's like they've learned nothing from Super Mario Wonder, because this looks like almost every other 2D Mario thing from the last couple of decades.
Mario RPG's new mechanic is worrying, like it was already a very easy game.
Tomb Raider trilogy is neat, never played those games before but I wanted to check out the originas.
I am not very interested in the Princess Peach game. It's just lacking the charm I normally look for in a Mario game. I might play it, but I won't pick it up on release.
Mario expansion pass was very nice to DK fans, but Peachette is icky and gross. I was hoping we'd never have to see that character again after NSMBU Deluxe but now it looks like we're stuck with her.
F-Zero is back... as a temporary, online only, battle royal exclusive NSO users.... talk about your monkey's paw wish. I'm sorry but I am not excited for this...
Paper Mario 2 remake is cool, but im kinda over Paper Mario at this point. I feel like maybe this being a remake in an already remake heavy nintendo direct has just soured my mood and i'm failing to see how cool this is right now, but I'll say this, I don't think "if this does well they'll make more traditional Paper Mario" which I know is going to be the mindset of a lot of Paper Mario fans, but I really don't think Nintendo operates that way. We'll see what happens though.
In any case, more and more i'm sold on the idea that the Switch is on it's way out. With all these remakes and C list games, it just kinda feels like that's the case.

Yellow Toad Adventures ~ Chapter (1-1): A New Kingdom?
Yellow Toad Adventures
Could someone think of a better title name please? So, this is an old project that was actually my first comic, actually my first thing I was going to do, before the GMOD, the MMD, the Adobe, the Pixel Art, though I've never got around to doing. Now since it's 2023, and not a lot of people do Super Mario comics anymore, I don't know if I could do it.  Though it'll feature Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, and Toadette, it will also feature some familiar faces from Nintendo.  So If you guy like it, I might do more.
Yellow Toad Adventures ~ Chapter (1-1): A New Kingdom?  After the recent events of NSMBU/Deluxe, Yellow, Blue, and Toadette were walking through the wood enjoying their day… for some reason… when  They discovered a silhouette. The Trio followed it to find out what it was. It disappeared! The Trio then found a mysterious glowing Warp Block, with a (I SUCK AT SHORT STORIES, SHUT UP). The Trio were wonder if the creature was the box. Yellow and Blue want to know what’s inside, So Yellow touched the “!” Block. Suddenly, the block begin shake, and grab Yellow and Blue! Toadette then tried to grab them, but she accidentally hit the block… and got captured as well! The Block then Flew away with them to an island, or another world or Kingdom.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder - My Thoughts
Some spoilers ahead. Nothing pertaining to the final area or post game secrets.
Gameplay:
Solid gameplay and good character control, and I love how character abilities were handled with this. Every normal character plays the same mechanically so you don't have stuff like 3D World and NSMBU Deluxe where one player is forced to be a character with a unique ability or movement that outdoes everyone else. And the action badges let you use unique abilities without being restricted by character choice. The expert badges also provide a lot of challenge for people looking for it. I ended up using these the most in post game. Trying to beat most of the 4 and 5 star levels with these equipped gets real nerve wracking. I do wish each player can choose their own individual badges in local co-op, but I imagine that would be very difficult to implement.
The online and offline multiplayer is also handled very well. No online lag and and less possibility of griefing (which is something I was greatly frustrated with when playing multiplayer in other games)
Levels:
Levels are stellar and were all memorable in some way, mainly thanks to the Wonder flower effects. I do wish most of the gimmicks and enemies weren't one offs, but I bet they're fleshing them out in future games. The talking flowers weren't as annoying as people were thinking they were. They even got me laughing a few times.
Bosses:
Obviously having Jr. be all the palace bosses can get tiring, but I think they did a good job keeping things fresh with the Wonder Powers. None of them play the exact same. The new airship bosses are also very cool, though there's much less variation compared to Jr's fights.
One thing I do wish for is that things were consistent in terms of boss fighting. World 3 and World 5 don't have a palace or airship level, and therefore don't have a world boss so to speak.
Maybe before reaching the end of W3 and W5, after the trials are beaten, right before the final stage, that's when bosses interrupt (not sure how it would work in World 5 given its setting).
Visuals+Music:
The visuals are on point! One of the best looking Mario games I've played! And I love all the little details they added with enemies too. They didn't really have to, but the little touches in animations and the sound design made the characters seem more alive. I absolutely love the music and sounds too. I dunno if it was listening to the same old NSMB themes from the Wii Era for so long, but all the music of Wonder is stuff I wouldn't be sick of listening to for extended times.

Has anyone ever discovered that if you beat the final level of New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe (i.e. the Switch version) as Toadette, Peach actually kisses her? Or am I just slow to the scene?

Toadette turns into the Princess?!  To kill her bus driver?  Why not unlock Princess as a separate character after you rescue her?  That’s the best idea of all time!
A great games nonetheless; great to see them confirmed.  As well as Final Fight

This is something that’s been in my heard since 2009 and I didn’t want to say anything because it just seems so stupid, but in New Super Mario Bros Wii... and NSMBU as well... when you first encounter Larry Koopa and he does his little angry shouting, it sounds like he’s saying “MARIO PLUMBER”
Please tell me i’m not the only one who hears this. It’s been 11 years and I need validation.

Yvanne Kinomono/Rachivesre/AU Blue Toad ~ Character and Ref Sheet
Yvanne Kinomono/Rachivesre/AU Blue Toad ~ Character and Ref Sheet This is Yvan, “Yvanne Kinomono”... or Simply “Blue Toad”. Like Yellow Toad, He’s also a friend, ally, and partners to both Mario and Luigi. Blue Toads that guy! He’s cool, laid back, smart, and a daredevil. He never gives up on life and strikes fear in the face! He’s always there to protect his twin bro, He looks at danger in the face and laughs at it. Yeah and he’s a little hot-tempered, and he’s the "Memey" bro. Not to mention and he and Yellow Toad helped save the princess like 2 or 3 times(Newer Wii Included). After the recent events of NSMBU/Deluxe, Yellow, Blue, and Toadette were walking through the wood enjoying their day… for some reason… when  They discovered a silhouette. The Trio followed it to find out what it was. It disappeared! The Trio then found a mysterious glowing block, with a “!”(I SUCK AT SHORT STORIES, SHUT UP).
