“I don’t like NuTrek, they don’t highlight what makes classic Trek so great.”
Cool. I recommend Star Trek Prodigy.
“So much of NuTrek is too far into the future or too far into the past”
Okay cool… I recommend Prodigy. It starts literally after Voyager ended.
“These new seasons of NuTrek are so short, and their plots move by way too fast”
Again… Prodigy. It’s 20 episodes a season, there are two seasons, that’s 40 episodes! Lots of time to go on hijinks and still have overarching plots.
“These NuTrek shows don’t respect the cannon of Star Trek”
PLEASE… I’m BEGGING YOU… watch Star Trek Prodigy. The writers LOVE the canon of legacy Trek and they’ve worked hard to improve on storylines from the TNG and VOY eras while also added some very deep cuts and references only seasoned Trek fans will catch!
Please… Prodigy is on Netflix. You can watch all 40 episodes now. It’s fantastic!

My only real beef with NuTrek set at the same time that Bashir and Garak exist is that they haven't had the balls to make it screen canon. Like, it was there in DS9 to the point the Powers that Be had to tell Alexander Siddig & Andrew Robinson to Knock It Off, and separated the characters as much as they could without pissing off the entire fan base.
The actors saw it, the fans saw it, it is there!! If you can give us Picard and bring back all those people and little nods, you sure as hell can give us 30 seconds of Bashir consulting with Beverly with Cardassia in the background and Garak popping over Bashir's shoulder to ask about her magic-borg-son.

To be honest, the actors in NuTrek and AOS bother me because everyone is kind of… too perfect? Like, they all LOOK like actors who are conventionally attractive. I always liked how in TNG, DS9, VOY, and TOS ESPECIALLY that, while the characters were all beautiful and attractive in their own right, they all looked like people you would just meet every day while walking around. They looked like everyday folk. It made it more believable that is a hopeful future for everyone, and not just a show. More diversity would’ve absolutely been fantastic, but I always loved how they just…looked like people. NuTrek kind of ruins that suspension of disbelief for me because you can tell that you’re watching actors because they all look “attractive.”

I 100% agree with Dr Angela Collier’s 3 hour, 48 minute long video essay on ‘How Star Trek: Picard Ruins Star Trek’.
If you’re a long-time Trekkie like me and you enjoy long-form video essays, I highly recommend you watch this.

One of the weirdest things about NuTrek is that they seem to have forgotten that enlisted people exist in starfleet. Like everyone on those shows is an officer. Its like they can't conceive of anything existing below ensign.

I love that there’s a dog on a star ship but I also keep thinking, who’s walking you, Porthos? Where do you get your enrichment?! there’s no Holodecks for walks. We saw him running around that planet w the psychotropic wind but how often does that happen? What about his social needs? I trust Data to know what a cat needs and meet those needs. But archer? Idk this fool! He seems like he loves his dog but what is there even for Porthos smell on the Enterprise? Who is playing with him?! How often? Is he just alone in their quarters whenever archer’s not there? I just have to keep reminding myself that it’s not a real dog. It’s ok. I love u porthos I hope ur enrichment needs are being met

Ok so I noticed a massive influx of new Scotty fans to the fandom now that a new pretty thing is playing him.
As a certified Scotty fan since at least the turn of the century, I’m here to explain to you exactly how to fan Scotty, dos and don’t, which ships are acceptable which aren’t, what is his officially certified, canonical backstory, which interpretations of the characters are correct and which are unacceptable. I’m not gatekeeping, I’m gateguideing.
Now read all of this and commit it to memory as it’s all VERY IMPORTANT!

I told Captain Pike the truth about myself. And he defended me. Told me I was exemplary. That he would fight for me. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | Ghosts of Illyria (S01E03)

"I'm sick of new shows where the characters have to know or be related to the Original Series crew. I'd much rather writers actually create new and interesting characters and crew like in TNG or DS9 rather than relying on Kirk and Spock to bolster viewing numbers. "
