Once upon a time ago a friend of mine was the person who sits in the nuclear silo waiting for the red phone to ring. We were chatting and she told me one of the most wild things I've ever heard.

So the bunker itself is basically an egg sitting inside of another egg deep underground. It's got these shock absorbers in case there is some sort of bomb strike or natural disaster (mostly I think bomb strike) so that the systems and people inside aren't affected.

In the event that something happens and they need to make an emergency escape, there was a hatch that the two people in the bunker had to crawl out of to get onto the top of this egg and into the like 3 ft of space between the egg and the actual Earth.

Once there there's another hatch at the very top that opens to a shaft with a ladder. To keep that space from collapsing it is filled with sand. The hatch opens with two wing nuts (maybe bolts?) and is an inch thick. Once you have gotten the second wingnut mostly unscrewed it's a matter of timing to avoid being knocked unconscious. When you open the hatch (and as she was the senior officer she told me that this was something she would obviously allow her junior colleague to do) the sand also immediately falls down and fills up the space around the egg.

There was some debate on if there was enough room around the egg for the amount of sand, so it was generally seen as good practice to go ahead and start climbing while the sand was still falling. Basically swimming upstream.

Once you got to the top there was another hatch that required quite the series of things to open and of course only opens from the inside.

That hatch had been paved over to put up a basketball court.

Fun nuclear fact! The lil yellow booties aren't to protect your feet! They're to make sure you don't accidentally track radioactive contaminants outside the area. Because it's already an outdoor space, and these folks aren't expected to be touching anything, all they need is booties, which they would take off when leaving the "contaminated" zone, where there is radiation monitoring present to make sure nothing leaves the zone.

We basically play "all surfaces are lava" when trying to separate radiation spaces from non-radiation spaces. It's especially fun if you wear polyester pants. Cause you can go into what's functionally a clean area, but your pants will set off the sensors when you tried to leave, because polyester attracts all the dust in the area. And that dust has a high concentration of radon, so you actually brought radon dust into the space, but because your pants alarmed on the monitors, you can't take them out of the space.

So the radiation safety monitoring folk will take your pants from you, make sure you aren't setting off the alarm, then give you some nice cotton pale blue scrub pants to leave with. You gotta do the polyester pants walk of shame.

This is delightful because it invariably happens to middle management whenever they're trying to give some bigwig a tour of the facility. And then you see them in the afternoon, scowling and wearing some sad worn out loaner scrub pants with their nice dress shoes and dress shirt and tie.

-was president during the three mile island reactor partial meltdown incident and because he had worked on nuclear subs before he knew that shit was fine and went over there to be like lalala i <3 reactors while the media were shitting their britches over a teeny tiny amount of radiation

headcanon time! Lloyd's powers:

When using Oni abilities, his powers turn purple, of course but I've been obsessed with the idea of him gaining those white face markings that Garm and the other onis have. The marks sort of swirl in from the sides of his face. if i was a better animator i'd have shown you. also would be cool if an inexplicable shadow fell over him and him only (even if he was in the sun), making the marks glow more.

Obviously there are two modes Lloyd's got when tapping into the Oni abilties: powered up and full transformation. i'm obsessssssedddd with exposed bones. Garmadon and Mistaké exposed ribcage is such a cool design element. I think in the power-up mode, the torso markings detail are something that glows over him, while in the transformation his ribcage and spine are just Out. But don't worry, I'm sure they're extra durable.

The green one is funky. You know how Lloyd's powers sort of glitched over him during his fight against Garmadon in s8? It was explained that his element was protecting him in a way. Well in my head, in the non-plastic character world the way it's visualized like the green power is sort of illuminating under his skin? its wrapping itself around his bones and organs and stuff as some sort of protective sheild under his flesh, which in part makes him look a little ghostly or radioactive. Probably a bit painful though.

Oni form. TBH i don't like the gold color but i can sort of accept that look if they give us a good reason. Otherwise I figure that since he was wearing proper armor in Crystallized, his transformation was more contained more. I bet if he was wearing a normal gi he'd tear out of it when he turns into a big hulking monster guy. They really should've tapped into the classic werewolf tropes with this oni transformation haha

I hc onis being really BIG beasts. Lloyd's transformation probably takes him up to like 3 meters tall. That could honestly be a really funny contrast though. I think in human mode he'd be really short, so effectively he doubles in size.

I deeply dislike the voyager fandom trope where Kathryn is everyone's mom and Chakotay is the dad. (I love found family, I hate "nuclearized" found family) That woman is NOT everyone's mother. She is however Harry's mother. Which is even funnier because from what we know, Harry seems to have a perfectly healthy and good relationship with his actual mom. He did NOT need to be adopted by an insane middle-aged woman but BOOM now he's got mommy issues and it's literally his boss.

Saw someone refer to Mormonism as a "doomsday cult" and like. Putting aside the unending "cult" debate, where the heck are you getting "doomsday" from??? Do you think we just spend our days sequestering ourselves in caves and chanting about how the end is nigh?? Alright, just finished my classes, time to go home and light a candle over the corpse of my neighbor's cat while begging the heavens to spare me when they rain fireballs down on us next week!

Like yeah we believe in an apocalypse sorta thing but so do most Christians? And we don't know squat about when it's gonna happen so like. Don't even worry about it. Guarantee the vast majority of LDS folk are not really concerned about doomsday. There's more important stuff to worry about. Like how outrageous of a tie can one attempt to wear at the pulpit before the Bishop asks you to take it off.

Genuinely curious as to which Mormons you've met that were particularly doomsday cult-y (emphasis on the doomsday part specifically, if it's just non-doomsday-specific cult allegations then that's a topic for a different time) . Particularly if they're from Utah, because if they are then one of my friends owes me money.

Have you played Pokémon rom hacks? I’m currently doing a Nuzlocke of Pokémon Divine Sword, a Pokémon sword hack rom with all Pokémon available and a higher difficulty!

Zeke and Grayscale are males while Fanette and Bunbun are females!

This is my team so far and I’m already noticing it’s full of grass types, even if I love them I’m in severe fear because the third gym is fire. I still have a couple routes to catch something else before the first gym tho, so I’ll pray for something fire resistant.
