Can I just say, as a Disney Villain Recruiters fan: I’m absolutely OBSESSED with your take on Veil! It’s so creative and cool, and I’d kill to see more of her and your take on the other Recruiters as well! Your version of Veil actually kind of reminds me of Double from Skullgirls a bit, and I could definitely see her true form being similarly eldritch and horrific. I could also definitely see her saying “What IS a man? A miserable little pile of secrets!” to boot as well.
Thanks!!! I don't have any art of them at the moment but I did have a list of ideas of how I'd incorporate them into my DisneyVerse project!
Disney Villain Recruiters/Apprentices
Mr V-- Valentin Duvalier ( either Faciler apprentice or possibly his Shadow given human form, haven't quite decided yet)
These three would all be Loa (Friends on the Other Side) given human forms to walk around in on the mortal plane
Ms Scatter
Ms Villa
Mr Polite
Apple Poison --Griswold Vergiften, Son of Grimauld, so Queen Grimhilde's nephew
Jack Heart--Jester of the Court of Hearts
Mr Dalmetia-- Is apparently a puppy called Prince who was changed by dark magic to enact Cruella's will/act as her personal agent. And actually, I'll just keep this xD . The second book had flying dogs. Magic has canon precedence. Plus Cruella in my DisneyVerse is descended from Princess Ivy so, magic precedence there too. Let her ascend to true devil mode xD
Malfi-- Look its the exact thing as Diaval, so that's who he is, Diablo the Raven given human form by Maleficent
Eight Foot Joe--Octopus who made deal with Ursula to become a cecaelia, simple and to the point, I'll keep him as is.
Lady Pirate Hock-- Harriet Hook from my Canon Descendants rewrite
Veil-- Female demon linked to an Enchanted bell sent into the world as a reliquary/agent of Frollo, trying to get out of Hell by doing something to the Bells of Notre Dame, to stop their protective ringing over the city -(gets involved in redone HOND 2, with Claudine and Madeline and whatnot)
Pretty Scar--Nzuri, a hyena (could also just be Shenzi?)
Farja-- Official apprentice of Jafar. Rename to Faja? Could also be his neice Jade by his sister Nasira if I want to go in a Canon Descendants rewrite way. She uses plant based magic, hebce her color changing flower
Ms Hades-- Orphne, a nymph of Hades, his personal secretary

Languages
I never became fluent in any foreign language although I was attracted to many.
I did manage to learn a few words of Swahili during a time when I thought about moving to Tanganyika, back when there was still a country called Tanganyika.
Jambo means hello Kisu means knife Nzuri means good
But how often can you use good knife in everyday conversation ?
Jambo Mr. bus driver, nzuri kisu!
It’s probably just as well that I never made it to Tanganyika, especially since there is no longer a Tanganyika.

FLP BOOK OF THE DAY: The Wrong Place by Tawn Parent
On SALE now! Pre-order Price Guarantee: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/the-wrong-place-by-tawn-parent/
The Wrong Place attempts to answer the question: How does a #mother cope when her worst nightmare comes true? This collection of #poems and #essays chronicles the author’s journey alongside her young son as he is diagnosed and treated for a rare #cancer. Readers follow the #family as they learn the vocabulary of cancer, develop a new way of #parenting, and grieve the loss of their son’s innocence. The #family navigates endless medical procedures and hospital stays while seeking to maintain a sense of themselves outside of “cancer world.” Throughout, the author relies on humor and hope to pull her through.
A native and resident of Indianapolis, Tawn Parent has been a professional writer and editor for 30 years. Her poetry and essays have appeared in Tipton Poetry Journal, Home Planet News Online, Anti-Heroin Chic, Last Stanza Poetry Journal, and Nzuri. She has worked for various business publications, and also served as proofreader for two books.
PRAISE FOR The Wrong Place by Tawn Parent
Tawn Parent’s powerful new collection of poetry, The Wrong Place, takes us on a terrifying journey no one ever wants to take. Yet her language of careful understatement and humility and her final insights that lead to a certain wisdom, make us all the better for having done so. This is an important book that needs to be read.
–Matthew Graham, author of The Geography of Homeand 2020-23 Indiana State Poet Laureate
In The Wrong Place, Tawn Parent does what she must do: Tell the compelling story of her teen son’s treacherous cancer journey and hers as a mother by his side. “Is this my son…” she asks, “this teen…/cruising toward adulthood/suddenly entered freefall/ and landed back in my arms.” From the moment he wakes with pain to numerous treatments later, she immerses you in their lives, teetering on tears (“What’s oncology?” he asked) to welcoming relief and joy: “Here is the bell,” the nurse says, “Come ring it!” In Parent’s book, you are in the right place for insightful poems of courage and hope.
–Bonnie Maurer, author of The Reconfigured Goddess, Poems of a Breast Cancer Survivor
Tawn Parent’s The Wrong Place is required reading for anyone who has been touched by cancer. Parent’s heartfelt poems follow her journey through her young son’s diagnosis and how it affects her and her family, like when she discovers the side effects of “the five drugs/with their unpronounceable names” that may produce “red urine, red sweat … red tears” and she tries to “picture my son with red tears/coursing down his cheeks/It sounds like a horror movie.” She also learns “Parenting a child with cancer/has meant throwing out/so many rules…,” and shares with us about the first difficult Christmas. But through it all, Parent never loses her defiant humor or her unyielding hope in writing about such a difficult subject and in turn gives others a glimpse of how to cope with something so unthinkable as a child with cancer.
–Lylanne Musselman, author of It’s Not Love, Unfortunately and Staring Dementia in the Face

I FEEL COMPELLED TO SHARE A STORYTIME FROM MY TRAVELS TO TANZANIA THIS SUMMER
So I went to Tanzania for a summer program. I ended up learning a bit of conversational Swahili, but English is my mother tongue. Now, mind you, I know Japanese as well. Nowhere enough to be fluent, but enough to know general words.
(could I converse with the Japanese kids on program? Hell no. Did they think me trying to speak Japanese in my funny little American accent was adorable and they wanted to treasure me? Yes. Unfortunately.)
But by the end of about two weeks, I was able to impress the new batch of people (I stayed the whole month while all but three other people stayed the rest of the time with me) with my newfound speaking skills, and so they thought I knew what the fuck I was talking about.
and Boy, Oh Boy, did I get ahead of myself.
Now, a little lesson for you; Jambo is slang for ‘hey-o’ for tourists. Market-goers will call it out to you expecting you to repeat it back. Now, the FUNNIEST thing was replying back in full-ass Swahili like we were taught and watching these people lose their MINDS.
“Aye-o, Jambo!”
“Sijambo, na wewe?”
Now, THIS— this roughly translates to,
“Aye-o, hey! Tourist!”
“Hello! How are you?”
BAHAHAHAHAHAAHA—
oh, watching older African men lose their SHIT to a little 5’0 scrunkly-ass American boy spit THIS back out at them was COMEDY GOLD.
Another time was me acting like me and the kitchen staff could hold a conversation:
“Ah, bui-bui! Habari za asubuhi?”
“Nzuri sana! Na wewe?”
“Nzuri, nzuri.”
Which roughly translates to,
“Ah, spider!* how’s the morning?”
“Very good! How about yourself?”
“Well, well.”
*bui-bui is ‘spider’ in Swahili, which was the nickname for our driver, Lukumay.
BUT OHHHHHH MANNNN, was it so much fun. God, do I miss it there.

𝘜𝘮 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦 𝘥𝘶𝘢𝘴 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰̃𝘦𝘴: 𝙈𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙝𝙡𝙚𝙧

𝐒𝐈𝐌, 𝐒𝐄𝐌𝐏𝐑𝐄.
Então, 𝐒𝐈𝐌, 𝐞𝐮 𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐫 com você e te fazer imensamente feliz.
