Something that breaks my heart about Fable 2/3 is that sometimes I’ll be playing at I’ll catch a glimpse of Reavers face and he’ll just look so young. And all I can think of is how young he was when Oakvale was destroyed and how scared he must have been of death.

Obviously I’m not saying he was young young like a child, but he was just a young man too young to be thinking about mortality to the point he lost everyone and everything he loved, only to live an eternity as that young man.

Curse this little tragic man for breaking my heart like this

Solely because I like to hurt my emotions, I want Lark to remember his experience in Oakvake pretty fondly.

It’s one of the last times he can remember being happy with his dad! He got to do fun stuff like dungeon crawling and running away from his grandma autumn! His dad let him participate in a fight, and in pretty sure he got French fries out of the experience too.

In contrast; I want sparrow to fucking HATE Oakvale because of the fight with Barry and Lark getting literally murdered. I don’t want Barry to be forgiven— maybe sparrow tried, but even as the old half-elf became more and more docile, sparrow still can’t help but see him as the same threat. I also think that he’d be more likely to recognize that it was Immediately after Oakvale that Lark became more cold and closed-off, and that their own grandmother clearly didn’t want them around. The naming scheme of his children was probably one of those “meet in the middle” things Rebecca recommends where everyone leaves unhappy.

“How does this hurt you?” Well, it means that when Henry holed up in Oakvale after essentially going no contact with his sons, he’s gone to the One Place Sparrow is going to want to avoid with his life, and is additionally preventing Lark from going back and maybe learning more from his badass cleric grandma. Sparrow wants to connect with his dad but can’t stand where he went to hide, and Lark wants to learn more about his family but has No desire to see his dad or go alone. Everyone leaves unhappy!

have some Hen doodles! i find oakvale so interesting and ive been meaning to get down some designs for the clothing they wear, this is more of a royal/formal version, i use smth similar in that fantasy au i drew some art for as well, the common clothing id imagine would be more comfortable looking and robe-esc ill probably doodle up a reference sheet for that,

ive also been thinking about redoing my demon/hell reference sheet as well because i had some thoughts on how to change up those designs...

but yeah, i love this silly guy

The urge to write an oakson bodyguard au. Darryl would be from the forgotten realms and as a barbarian would be tasked with protecting Prince Hen from Oakvale. Hm. Many thoughts about this.

Oh yeah,

So this is like totally inconsequential and unimportant but I came across something rather peculiar several weeks ago (forgot to write this post), and wanted to see if by chance anyone had any thoughts or insight...

It’s really quite random, but I’d seen fanart of Sparrow... Uh, not the dndads one actually! Instead it was art of the main character from Fable II- a game which I frankly know very little about. 

Still, out of curiosity I find myself reading the synopsis of the game’s plot and uhhh

And I was like, “UWAH??”  Like what a weird little coincidence right and this game came out in 2008 so I guess it had me wondering like was the naming of Oakvale (or Sparrow??) a very subtle nod to this game or is this 100% just random happenstance... Have the players said anything important on the naming of the S1 kids at all? I’m just so curious lol.

Again, super random and not important, but I figured I’d throw this into the void in the event that any kind of insight amounts from it!

The Mother

Where the oaks grow tall, wild beasts dare not tread. Although it is a peaceful town, something wicked walks beneath the branches. She walks on silent footsteps, mouth curled in an everlasting smile. Should she find new prey, her flock will increase in number.

Every now and then, a newcomer appears. They have heard tales of the quiet community, nestled safe in nature's embrace. Surely, here it is a safer place to reside than in service to the Mad Queen or beneath the shadow of an obsidian castle.

The newcomers are welcomed, with clothes and gifts and food and a festival. Yes, each new member of the herd is celebrated like a brand new year. They drink and dance, and by the end of the night they drown in the love of their fellow people. They think to themselves, I was right to come here. I never want to leave.

And if perhaps, they did in the back of their mind, express some desire to depart. If they went to the Mother of Oakvale and told them, "I would like to go back." The Mother would smile and look into their eyes.

"You don't want to go back," the Mother would say, a warm glow in their emerald green eyes. "You want to stay here, forever." And it would start to be true. After all, this is a safe place, a cozy home. There's no place else that's safe anymore. Outside of Oakvale, there was the risk of being contracted into the Empire's army, or being waylaid by bandits, or being processed into fertilizer.

And besides all that, they were welcome in Oakvale. They were loved in Oakvale. Oakvale was all they had and all they needed.

Yes, they would think, the Mother is right. They do want to stay here. Forever.

“He shall be called Hen,” Bear spoke, moving to sit down next to his beloved. “Hen Ry’Oak.” Autumn focused on Hen’s face, deciding not to pay any attention to the man to her left. Then, Bear wrapped his devilish hands around the child’s body and took him from Autumn’s hold. She gasped, cried out and reached for the boy. Her son has been ripped away from her, she has lost him, his innocence will be stripped down and he will have to suffer.

Autumn was not able to protect her own son for even a few minutes. Hen cried, and Autumn began to sob once more. Hen deserved a better life but Autumn was trapped, she will never be able to give him what he deserves. She mustn't love him, for it will be both of their downfalls. But for those few moments of holding the weak boy in her arms, Autumn got to pretend she was a mother. Bear opens his mouth, facing the healer. Autumn clutches at her chest.
