He doesn’t know when it started.

Fear.

“Nikolai Alexandrovich, what are you doing not being dressed yet?”

Winds are howling.

The sun has begun a slow descent for a time now, the air losing its warm quality, or as warm as it can be for northern Ravka’s early autumn.

At first, there is confusion.

A cough distracts him, followed by some loud nose-blowing.

At the twilight of his seventeen years, Nikolai comes back from the crucible that is the frontline, bloodied and cast in a new darkness adding age to what are otherwise a fresh face and a youthful mind.

Maybe it’ll fall away, I’m only halfway, but currently The Master And Margarita feels very Ghibli-esque. I’d love to see their animated version of it. The description of rushing and dragging of characters through alleyways feels very Howl; the clamouring of greedy people very Spirited Away; the cat with The Cat Returns is admittedly easy, but even the more romantic bits and their focus on details on colour and clothing and senses… Just feel like it’d be a very fitting style, especially for some of the more…bizarre portions, including those involving That One Running Theme of Oh So That’s Where Chibnall Wanted To Go But Couldn’t So Had To Settle For The Other Thing He Did.

one of the best things about live action adaptions of manga/manwha is they tend to shave off the more like, "aw man why the fuck did you do that??" or "god thats contrived even for the genre" stuff bc theyre just harder to accept in live action

This is where hell absolutely begins. I think I get it now. Often times, when I crave for the care of others but - I shouldn't. Because it does absolutely nothing. Lutz had something superb to say to me earlier. Look at the things you hate, look at the fact that they don't know how much they're hated and remember that the few who are knowledgeable lie within. In short terms, look inwards. Him and Red agree on that but let's dig a bit deeper. They know when and why something makes me upset. They know which friends at exactly which time are causing me to feel some sort of way. THIS is why they don't like any of my friends except for a small number and they also don't like who I attach to because they can see everything that person does. If I'm not cognitive, they are. They are delegating, it's like a cog that runs for a few hours out of the day and then rests. So Lutz says, "Look at them and say that you hate them. Say that their decisions have made you cold." And I repeat after him because it's freeing. They won't judge me and they can be the steps to a better me. The only thing that can warm me again, is trusting them and trusting their advice.

Let’s finish a novel/fic this 2024! ✨☘️🕯️

Apart from that primary goal of finishing a novel, here are some specific areas I want to work on:

Experiment with different writing styles, voices, perspectives and/or timelines within a short creation (short story or drabble). Aim to get a grasp of it's major components, its distinguishing factors.

Diversify character dialogue based on their educational background, where they grew up, whether they are introverted or extroverted, whether they ramble excitedly or cut their responses short.

you know, I keep going back and forth on this fic I'm writing and whether or not it'll be any good. it's in a heavy angst alternate universe I've already explored and I don't wanna tarnish the name of that one in my mind. I think I'll have to fix another plot thing, but not as extreme as before. it's just annoying to keep redoing stuff with new ideas and whatnot.

Why the Hell Do I Ship Royai???

(TW: brief mention of suicide and allusions to unhealthy relationships)

I know nobody asked but I find the fact that I ship Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye so interesting because, on paper, I shouldn’t ship them.

First of all, I don’t like straight ships with dynamics like the right hand man or ships that have the male character as the woman’s superior. It’s not the dynamic itself that bothers me, it’s the predictability of it. When it’s hetero, I immediately think “of course those two are gonna get together.” It feels like low hanging shipping fruit.

I also don’t like stoic badass x absolute clown (competent or otherwise) ships. I almost always end up wondering why either side likes/puts up with each other. Especially since the badass tends to be an asshole and/or emotionally unavailable while the clown (forcibly) takes on their baggage.

Lastly, I don’t like relationships where one or both sides are codependent on the other. “I’ll die without you”, “You can’t leave me”, “I refuse to go on without you”, “You’re mine/I’m yours”, “You’re my other half (seriously)”, etc. ships have never been appealing to me. I understand why people like them, but I just can’t get over how gross it makes me feel. Like, I promise the planet will continue spinning after they’re gone, get some self confidence, I’m begging you. Maybe it’s because I’m not a romantic, maybe I’m overthinking it, maybe I’ve heard too many stories of codependent relationships going south, who knows?

By all means, I should look at Royai and think that it’s an incredibly unbalanced and unlikeable relationship (at least in a romantic sense). But I don’t. And I think I know why: Royai took what should’ve been an incredibly one-sided/unbalanced relationship and balanced it.

First, it avoids coming across as predictable (because it technically isn’t canon) because the series goes out of its way to expand upon their relationship's. It doesn’t absolve the predictability, but it counters it. It avoids being forced by being taken seriously and being given serious time to develop.

Secondly, both characters are developed in ways that avoid their relationship coming across as overly cliche. Namely, they’re given reason to like each other and both are charismatic/likeable enough that they aren’t annoying (I know this isn’t much, but the bar is in hell for shounen romance. Especially background character romance). Hawkeye has her lighter and nicer moments and Mustang knows when to be serious. The problem of the stoic character having exponentially more baggage or the clown forcing that baggage onto themselves is also avoided by both of them having a lot of baggage and (something FMA nailed as a series) boundaries.

My last problem is avoided by both of them staying their own characters. They can both function without the other, the other doesn’t fill their every waking thought, they’re capable of and willing to call the other out on their screwups, and whatever pedestal they put the other on doesn’t impede their judgement (for the most part) or make them ignore others to a concerning/upsetting extent. Even after Hawkeye says she’ll take her own life if Mustang dies, it somehow avoids being ship-ruining/frustrating/ disturbing. It’s tragic, but it doesn’t make me want them to not get together (it makes me want them to work through that shit and then get together). I’m gonna add that this is probably helped by the fact that Mustang never takes advantage of her vulnerability and he doesn’t come across as the type who ever would. It would’ve been so easy to make Mustang the stoic badass in charge with enough baggage to fill an airport with Hawkeye as his softer/more lighthearted right hand woman with a concerning level of dependency on him, but the author didn’t go that route and I will be forever grateful.

ITS SO CUTE IN THEORY... but i feel like jyushi would not survive without a good camera T__T i don't think he would be an iphone user so my personal headcanon is like. a relatively recent samsung phone... or maybe best of both worlds with the samsung flip...??? i could definitely picture him with something trendy and cute like that...

i DO however think kuko would use a flip phone... in my head he uses something super super basic and sturdy and kind of old ... he seems like the type who wouldn't get a new phone until it was falling apart and all he really needs it to do is send messages and take calls... (but also ... knowing kuko... who knows what throwdowns his phone has accompanied him through...) but in one of jyushi's arb lines he mentions kuko sending him a funny sticker iirc...??? so whatever he has must have line on it LOL that is the only clue...
