keeping objects as pets #3: candles!
hi there! in this series, i’ll be going over basic descriptions of commonly-kept object species (and some rare ones too!), facts about them, why you might want one as a pet, their basic needs and necessities provided you want to house one, and things you should NEVER do. for the third of this series, we're covering candles!
description
candles are a very diverse breed of object that come in a ton of unique shapes and sizes. some are short and stocky while others are very tall! they usually are less than a foot tall, but they can be taller, in rare instances. their legs are plantigrade, with three fingers per hand and three toes per foot. their claws are non-retractable. their limbs, while softer underneath, are covered in hard and inflexible flame-resistant scales, similar to that of a pangolin or armadillo. they are able to light spontaneously, but this takes more energy than they typically have and they often must find a way to produce their flames on their own.. their wicks regrow over time if damaged and have no nerves. they produce wax through their whole life.
facts about candles
uniquely among objects, candles can sometimes produce a thin covering of a glasslike material to protect their wax bodies. object biologists aren't fully sure why this gene is inactive in some candles and active in others. their bodies, unlike real candlewax, are more soft and malleable and therefor more prone to damage, so it's agreed on that this "jar" formation is meant as a protective covering, though with it being so fragile, some specialists have suggested it to play a role in mate selection in the wild. their diet consists primarily of insects in the wild, but can be supplemented with crustaceans as well - they seem to have a taste for shellfish.
why as a pet?
candles aren't as skittish as lanterns, and can be quite bold at times. they aren't curious by nature like backpacks, though, preferring to stay in small groups in a remote location. this can make them ideal for people looking for an object that doesn't need company every single day, though this shouldn't be an excuse to neglect them! their melted wax can be collected and used as a regular candle as well, so for people who like to meditate, this can be a great way to save money, provided they can meet the needs of the creature. these animals are quiet and reserved, and very easily trained, which can make them ideal for people with children in their homes as well.
basic needs + do’s and dont’s
as previously stated, candles primarily consume insects. they favor grubs over adult insects, but their teeth are able to crack open the shells of most beetles, roaches etc. this can make them great for pest control in houses with lots of insects, but you should never rely on them for this! their primary need is that they absolutely MUST BE LIT now and then! candles produce wax through their whole lives and in the wild they will light themselves if possible (sometimes using tools to achieve this), but due to potential danger with fire indoors you absolutely HAVE to light them yourself to burn excess wax off. if the dripping wax is an issue, you can try waiting for it to harden again before scraping it off floors. alternatively you can try "dry-waxing", which is a relatively new practice for candle owners. this consists of using special waxing tools to remove built up wax from the object; care must be taken as removing too much can be extremely painful for the object and possibly even kill them. this is why i recommend taking your object to the vet to have them perform this instead to avoid harm to your pet. if your candle is hesitant to go in a carrier, you can try luring them with a raw shrimp, one of their favorite treats.
their primary sources of enrichment come from their environment, which is a great way to lead into:
housing
candles don't require a massive space, but these animals do require at least a medium size house to be fully comfortable. they like to have a visually stimulating space, with bright colors - if your home has more muted colors, i suggest setting up a "den" for your candle to keep them stimulated. as far as toys go, they actually aren't as overly playful as some species, but maybe have some cat toys such as feathers on poles for them or mice to throw around.
that’s all! hopefully this helps educate anyone who is considering this species!

what are object limbs even made of??
it honestly depends! but, for the most part, their skin is very flexible and rubbery, as with their bones, and a lot of them have the ability to stretch or bend their limbs to an unnatural degree. of course, with this in mind, it's still possible to overextend, tear the muscle, or break a bone, so one has to be careful when doing this. it's an interesting albeit risky ability. the limb type can vary from object to object. some of them will have fur, others will just have skin, and some might have scales. some might not have organic limbs at all!
as for the material, we used to think that their limbs were made of the same material as their bodies, but we've discovered that isn't usually true (though there are exceptions). it's unlike the skin of organic creatures like humans or animals, rather something completely unique to the objects themselves. their skin is very tough and it's hard to make them bleed, and for the longest time we weren't even sure if they *did* have blood. they do, but not in their main bodies to our knowledge. since their bodies are inorganic they don't really need it and it would honestly just be gross. objects with liquid or filling in them might consider *that* their blood but this is an informal term.

random things about Blockies
- The way they play is often aggressive and is seen by other objects as an active attempt to harm them. Because of this, it’s advised to house them with Pens and Erasers! Occasionally Woodies can also be housed with Blockies, but this mostly depends on the Blocky’s temperment.
- A good enrichment for Blockies are pranks! But try your best to make sure they’re not dangerous-- Blockies can take things a little too far.
- Do not house them with Amongus Imposters. Thank me later.
- Also do not house them with Peepies.
- You can house Blockies with most cookies! But please avoid making them interact with Timekeepers. Please. And Strawberry Crepes.

Hi Hell, I wanted to get your thoughts on something. My friend who has been vegetarian for close to 30 years is thinking about becoming vegan. His main reason is that the pain and suffering of an animal in the large majority of the animal product industry is not worth the enjoyment he gets from cheese, milk, etc. He hypothesizes that most people are not vegan due to lack of education about the industry’s methods, and because eating meat is so normalized. I mostly agree, but something about what he’s saying makes me feel bad. Maybe because I don’t see myself ever becoming vegan, due to how much I love certain foods, but I like to think of myself as an empathetic and moral person. So I think I just feel quite selfish.
He is a very analytical and logical thinker, and says he wants to find more anti-vegan arguments before deciding for sure, but can’t seem to find many. What do you (and your followers) think? I was thinking you aren’t vegan, but I don’t actually know.
This is very much not my lane, but if you want my two cents then for me it comes down to a few things.
One: there is a basic mass of food that any human needs to consume in order to stay alive. That can be plants, it can be animals, it can be animal byproducts. For the a significant proportion of commercially produced food, there is a negative impact. It's hard to quantify; in some cases it is certainly direct, quality of life issues for animals. In other cases it's more broad environmental impact from commercial farming, or quality of life for the human laborers involved in harvesting etc. It's hard to come up with any objective measurement for harm when comparing individual animal suffering vs human quality of life vs large scale environmental issues. There's plenty of information out there on some of the vegan diet staples and how increases in farming things like quinoa have enormously detrimental effects on their native communities, if that's something your friend is not already aware.
Two: There is a degree of this that is just...unavoidable. Things eating other things is the way living creatures survive, and on a systematic level there's not a ton we individually can do to change things--and on a practical level, there's only so much you can afford to spend on food, and organic, cruelty free stuff is more expensive. There is a level of privilege in being able to choose to spend your money in that way that is not always an option for everyone.
I'm not vegan. I'm not vegetarian. I care deeply about animals, and I'm aware of what commercial husbandry looks like--it's pretty terrible. I still eat meat. I try to do so as ethically as I reasonably can.
I don't have an issue with eating other animals. It's a part of nature. To me, I see the obligation more to do our best to try to get meat (or byproducts) that have been raised as well as we can manage. Free range eggs are pretty easy to come by, if you live in the country. Same with locally made cheeses and butters, even farm fresh milk--some places have self-serve milking that allows cows to roam in pastures and then be milked at will. Price and availability will vary by where you are, but it's more and more common; as more and more people start to care about how the people and animals involved in making our food are treated, better options become more available.
It also should be noted that the animals involved in farming are almost universally completely domesticated. There's no alternative for these animals and their progeny except for life in human care. These breeds require human aid for their own health and safety, because we have been breeding them for (in many cases) thousands of years to rely on us and to develop traits that will not aid them in the wild. If everyone decided, tomorrow, to become vegan, then these animals would need to remain in human care for however many thousands of generations it would take to breed them back to the ability to survive without us, or we would have to sterilize them en mass and terminate these breeds through lack of reproduction. It is not an option to just release these farm animals into the wild. Domesticated animals require human care. Some of them, like pigeons, have gone feral when we abandoned them, but they are not like their wild cousins, and it shows.
Because of the selective breeding involved in domestion, most of these animals are producing byproducts--eggs, milk, honey, wool, etc--in quantities that they do not need. While some species have been bred to do that to their own detriment, most heritage breeds are fully capable of producing more than they need of these things, and there can be true symbiosis between these animals and their human caretakers. Some of these things they need to have removed for their own health. It's an ancient bargain--we keep them safe, and warm, and healthy, and protected, and they give us that which they have in abundance. The problem isn't the animal product, it's how it's produced commercially.
So yeah--veganism is one option, but it is, in my opinion, a narrow scope at an issue that is far more nuanced. I think it's equally ethical to aim for a diet that focuses on local, ethical farming practices--for growing crops, for caring for meat animals, for beekeeping, for chickens and sheep and whatever else we need. We've spent longer than any of us will live making these animals part of our world--discarding them and what they can give us is not going to benefit them. We just have to learn how to treat them respectfully.

A little info for first-time Night Lords husbandry enthusiasts, just because they are called Chaos Marines does not mean you should put them with other breeds of Chaos Marines. Many Night Lords have a strong annoyance with chaos and chaos-related objects. Not all feel this way about chaos but always check before introducing them to chaos marines.

its crazy cuz like you dont ever look at a fish and think "this is an unpopular animal". but then you try to talk to people about fish and you realize how many people write them off as stupid, boring animals and lesser pets. and so you try and talk to people who really love animals and see how many of them dont care at all about fish except for the ones they personally find scary and like, dolphins. and you try to talk to furries and nobody really cares about them and you try to talk to cartoonists and they dont care beyond finding nemo and you talk to animal husbandry people and nobody really seems to care about tanks because its "just fish" and you go to aquariums and people only want to see the sharks and like its weird, right? because theres not very many people who will be outwardly hostile to fish or say they dont like them like most people are objectively neutral-to-positive on fish but when youre someone who like, cares, you start to notice how that neutral-to-positive shows itself as like just kind of a general apathy and dismissal and everyone thinks youre a bit odd for caring so much about something most ppl regard as like. beneath them. its just weird.

I think theres some object that digs into my trash cans every night and knocks em over. I only know it's an object and not another animal because i caught a glimpse of em for about 1 second last night when I was putting a frog outside (lol) I dunno what kind of object it is though. How do I discover the culprit...and maybe get them better food than the literal junk food from my trash?
hmmm...thats a bit concerning <:( objects never dig through trash unless there's something wrong or if they're starving. they tend to be hunters or foragers and are more than capable of making and eating the same food humans do. eating trash will make them sick. maybe try leaving something outside for them around the time they show up? even if it's something like fast food or something you can make in the microwave it's going to be miles better than whatever they're eating from the garbage. you can also gain their trust that way. frequent visits and peace offerings are a good way to earn an object's trust. a lot of people in the field compare them to crows in that sense. they can also keep one hell of a grudge so try not to scare them away.

Asteroid Pan in Natal and Synastry Charts
Once again, this information is compiled for my use and posted for shared convenience. Read my bio for a disclaimer and practice common courtesy if you're interested in using my words or work.
Tumblr media
To start, we have to understand the context of Pan, whether as a mythic figure, a divine patron, or both.
Pan is a rustic god, whose domain extends over shepherds, hunting, panic, and folk practices, especially of music or prophecy. He is a companion to Dionysus, and travels with his nymphs.
🐑 Often, but not always, he is depicted as a satyr. Other times, he is represented with horns, but no hooves. Still other times, he is shown as humans, but in the company of satyrs, as well as normal goats.
🐑 He is mischievous, a giver of terror, as well as an eager pursuer of love and pleasure. But he is also a guardian of flocks, a practitioner of animal husbandry, so he is not entirely flippant and impulsive.
🐑 Essentially, Pan was a playful, festive spirit who enjoyed toying with the nerves of strangers and engaging in bestial mating rituals, but he also fully committed himself when guarding the vulnerable. He likes to watch people squirm, but he doesn't want to see the innocent flock actually harmed. Thus...
Asteroid Pan [4450] represents teasing, stimulation, excitement, and impulse control (or lack thereof). He also correlates to roles and relations based in pursuit, such as leader-follower and hunter-target.

Prominent natal placements of Pan indicate how such a position as his is fulfilled or obtained by the native.
For others who practice a faith that involves some form of the hellenic pantheon, I have listed how I interpret natal blessings from object-asteroid aspects here and are interested in my approach. You can interweave those basic interpretations with the ones I’ve provided and get a rough approximation of how I'd interpret the aspect.
Tight and significant conjunctions will create a sort of "wildcard leader" aspect to the native, empowering the native to vacillate between solemnity and joy when engaging with that role, while oppositions will invite a tension or controversy (that ultimately contributes to personal growth, if the native is healthy) from either pursuit of desire or acts of guidance.
🐑 John F. Kennedy is a great example of a Pan-Sun conjunction native. A steady leader who instilled feelings of unity, known for his lustful pursuits, maintaining good humor in the midst of strife, but certainly someone who spooked certain contemporaries.
🐑 Fascinatingly, his partner, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, has her own special relevant placement, a Pan-Venus conjunction opposite Pluto. Venus is the planet of values and is correlated to ideals and partners, so a conjunction draws her rational mind and physical needs to Pan-like personalities. Pluto opposition correlates this magnetism to her own generational traumas and transformations. That her Pan-Sun partner was assassinated sitting right beside to her? Worth noting.
🐑 Beyond her connection to her husband, however, Onassis was also a leader of the flock herself in her time as First Lady, mainly in that she became the face of an aristocratic American style. While her status is permanently tied to the tragedy of her narrative and the shock of the JFK assassination, her light, 'tasteful' ensembles contributed to the guidelines of upper-crust American femininity.
🐑 Meanwhile, Marie Antoinette had Pan conjunct Pluto, and we know where her indulgence lead her. Beyond the obvious tie from debauchery to death, this aspect also suggests a dread or anxiety tied to the concept of shepherding, or being in a position to guide.
A few other noteworthy individuals with Pan conjunctions and oppositions include:
Rita Hayworth, Machine Gun Kelly, and Empress Josephine all have Pan conjunct their Ascendant.
Lucille Ball's Pan is conjunct her Pallas-Saturn conjunction.
Pan conjunct Neptune was an aspect in Catherine the Great's chart. Meanwhile, Pan opposite Neptune features in the chart of Fiona Apple.
Pan conjunct Lilith is present in the charts of both Kurt Cobain and Princess Diana!
Marilyn Monroe's Pan was opposite her Vertex, and thus conjunct her Antivertex.
Tumblr media
Squares and trines create relationships between that planet's domain and acts of pursuit and guardianship.
🐑 Like Jackie O, Tobias Forge of Ghost also has a Pan-Pluto opposition, but this is complemented by tight trines with Neptune and multiple Muse asteroids, as well as a square with Orpheus. In this case the aspect with Pluto manifests with an alternative influence on culture, as a frontman for a band which inspires both fanatical devotion and a consistent amount of controversy.
🐑 His project itself is a mockery of the powerful institution that is the Catholic Church, but concerts and fan spaces are a place of comfort, and funds from a certain cover song are literally donated to a charity which organizes safe spaces for the vulnerable (summer camps for trans kids).
🐑 Obviously, Neptune and the Muses correlate to art, which connects those Pan themes perfectly to his music. Even better, Neptune rules spirituality, delusion, and mystery. The band's theme is religious, and all members used to be anonymous until a dismissed court case forced Tobias to publicly identify himself, though all other members retain anonymity.
🐑 Britney Spears's Pan is trine her Vertex, Sun, and Lilith, as well as being opposite her Moon. The trine aspects, especially with the Sun, positions a spotlight on her ability to collect massive amounts of fans (aka followers) by making her own choices, and committing to the honest, unapologetic performance of sensual, intimate power.
🐑 The Pan-Moon opposition further speaks to her past and sense of self being in direct conflict with follower-following relationships. This may reflects her struggle to reclaim personal financial autonomy from her former guardians, but I'd shift focus to her relationship with the public, and how contentious it became when she tried to grow and leave her chaste teen image behind, prioritizing adult expression over imposed responsibility to censor herself to comply with outrage from parents.
🐑 This contention actually fed into and fueled Britney's narrative: the rejection of her after she expressed her wild side empowered her to pursue her desires as a new type of female role model, one that had been slut-shamed but come out the other side all the more iconic and beloved. (There's a lot more that worth exploring there, too.)
🐑 Liam Gallagher of Oasis has his Pan squaring his Sun, Mars, and Midheaven. Anyone who knows the fraught history of the band won't be surprised to see an aspect that promises challenges in how taking a leadership role relates to overall growth, animal instincts, and the personal pinnacle of honor.
A few other noteworthy individuals with natal Pan trines and squares (along with other placements) include:
Megan Fox's Pan is conjunct her Mercury, trine her Mars-Ascendant conjunction, and square her Moon.
Britney Spears's Pan is trine her Vertex, Sun, and Lilith, and opposite her Moon.
Liam Gallagher of Oasis has his Pan squaring his Sun, Mars, and Midheaven.

Major Synastry: What Synastry Aspects with Pan Mean
Synastry involving Pan indicates a relationship which instills anxiety, lust, and comfort simultaneously.
Conjunctions reveal a focal point of frenetic, kinetic energy in the dynamic. The Pan individual engages with the other's object like a big, red button that is begging to be pressed. They know it will fire up the other's nerves in whichever way, but it's just so tempting...
🐑 For example, two natives with a double Pan conjunction share a raw and mutual lust, a desire to play chase with one another. This can mean quick, stimulating, and playful foreplay. Both also want to see the other person's desire. This placement doesn't necessarily want a hunt - it wants a game, some sort of race or play-fight where both members are equally participatory.
🐑 It also indicates a willingness to play with each other's minds. On some level, both individuals like the idea of having the power to give the other a scare. They each like the feeling of messing with the other's head, no matter how much they care.
🐑 House overlays are crucial for mutual conjunctions. I'm looking at a Pan-Pan conjunction that lands in one of the native's 12th every time, regardless of zodiac and house system. This empowers the aspect of fear in the relationship for this native. It also transfers their pursuit to the realm of fantasy. They may desire to take that role in the relationship, but they are more likely to imagine it than to actually act upon it.
🐑 It also means the other person in the relationship may have no idea the lust is mutual. The 12th house native relegates it too well. This might frustrate the other, making them feel denied or rejected. They may sense reciprocation, but they feel a need to push the 12th house person until they break down and express it. But the 12th house native also won't be able to clearly see the other's playfulness and aggression for what it is: a signal of lust and even care, missed due to doubt.
Tumblr media
🐑 For another example, Pan conjunct Saturn would give the Pan native an easy way to push the Saturn native's buttons. Saturn will clam up at any suggestiveness from or about Pan, mostly because any wildness they exhibit makes them feel less in control.
🐑 Ultimately, however, Pan is a guardian of the flock as much of a member of Dionysus's retinue. Pan can contribute to Saturn's goals and take the reins when necessary. Pan makes Saturn anxious, but ultimately Saturn comes to see the potential for stability there.
🐑 Saturn has major power to turn Pan on, but it takes a while to build. Pan may not consider Saturn that way at first, only to realize after some time that Saturn drives them absolutely crazy, and then they'll be hard pressed to stop fantasizing over them.
🐑 Pan is a follower as much as a pursuer, and if Saturn accepts their advances, Pan will adopt them as one of their own, and be sure to care for them regardless of whatever chaos is going on. If Saturn shies away, Pan may get frustrated and lash out, or may try to tear down whatever stability Saturn relies upon.
🐑 Princess Diana had her Pan conjunct the Pluto of Prince Charles, and Dodi al Fayed had his Pan conjunct her Ceres-Vesta conjunction.
🐑 Diana's ability to garner a following is tied to the tragedies defining Charles personally as well as those of his generation. Diana's grief and devotion connects to Dodi's capacity as a pursuer and follower. If you know anything even generally about these three, you likely immediately understand how accurate this is.
A few other noteworthy pairs with Pan conjunctions in their synastry:
Empress Josephine's Pan was conjunct Napoleon I's Vertex.
Prince Philip's Pan was conjunct Queen Elizabeth II's Pallas-Pluto conjunction.
Nancy Spungen's Pan was conjunct Sid Vicious's Lilith.
Megan Fox's Pan is conjunct Machine Gun Kelly's Mercury-Pallas conjunction.
Tumblr media
Oppositions indicate a more fixed pursuer-pursued dynamic. There's a similar flow of energy, but it seeps out, and is both more confrontational and more indirect than with conjunctions. Pan seeks to provoke the other into revealing that part of themself.
🐑 For example, I see Pan opposite a Chiron-Juno conjunction. This is already made more complex by the involvement of two objects, but essentially, the Pan native enjoys maneuvering the other into exposing their romantic hurts, and even gets pleasure from indirectly forcing them into embodying a spousal or sensual archetype. Chiron-Juno finds the teasing, erratic attention of Pan frustrating, both sexually and emotionally, but also compelling.
🐑 So, that sounds really abstract, but how this plays out in real life, is we have a pair where one is always needling at the other about their experiences with relationships. Maybe the Chiron-Juno native is inexperienced, or has traumas. Once the Pan native learns about this, they find it hard to resist dredging those up whenever the chance arises. Something in them just likes watching the other squirm over their romantic insecurities.
🐑 As for the second part, the Pan native will find it exciting when the other has to fill the roles represented by Chiron and Juno. This is the soul's caretaker (Chiron) and the erotic counterpart in body and mind (Juno). Combined, we see a mistress-as-missus figure, the second wife, or simply the erotic healer. Chiron's link to the 'hurt healer' and Juno's statistical link to infidelity and eroticism may also suggest the willingness of the
🐑 Again, houses play a big role here. In this chart, Pan falls into the Pan native's tropical 6th and sidereal 7th, so the other's Chiron-Juno conjunction falls into their tropical 12th and sidereal 1st. The reason why the Pan native feels the need to push the other's buttons about is because they see the other's pain as something hidden from them that is key to understanding their place in this world, and yet also is a reflection of a crucial part of themselves, and so they feel the need to take control in their day to day interactions and of their relationship, specifically by exhibiting the leadership and predatory traits of Pan.
Tumblr media
🐑 Let's look at another chart. I see Pan opposite a Pluto-Nymphe conjunction. Nymphe is correlated to nymphs, who commonly kept company with Pan in his travels. This looks like a relationship with both natural comradery and tension.
🐑 The Pluto-Nymphe individual may alternate between playfully elusive and intensely confrontational. The individual is both drawn to and afraid of being captured or hunted, and exposes their wilder side when they want to intimidate others. Their visceral desires and bright spirits only make them seem more ethereal, and thus, out of reach.
🐑 However, this only makes for all the more fun a game to play in the eyes of the Pan native. No ethereal spirit is above a good trick and no force of nature is too powerful to chase down, and besides, a target that positions itself as out of reach is only going to be more satisfying to take in hand.
🐑 On the whole, the amusement and protectiveness that Pan brings can provide some much needed levity to the Pluto-Nymphe native's fears, but the opposition and the asteroid involved will make the link a magnetic, if at times humbling and challenging, one.
🐑The Pan native will also encourage the other's sexuality, and may try to provoke, trick, or guide the other in their embodiment of raw sensual power as a natural force. In fact, the Pan native might be most delighted to find that when pushed to the brink, the Pluto-Nymphe native turns the tables and puts them in a position of prey instead!
Some noteworthy examples of Pan oppositions in synastry:
Napoleon I's Pan was opposite Empress Josephine's Lilith.
Prince Albert's Pan was opposite Queen Victoria's Vesta.
Nancy Spungen's Pan was opposite Sid Vicious's Pluto.
Megan Fox's Pan is opposite Machine Gun Kelly's Pluto-Lilith-Juno conjunction.
Tumblr media
I had originally intended to go into sextiles and quintiles in natal charts; squares, tries, sextiles, and quintiles in synastry charts; as well as how aspects to specific related asteroids play out, but I think that's a little ambitious considering everything on my plate right now. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed the post, and as always...
If you're interested in more interpretations of Pan in the natal or synastry chart (or even the divisional/harmonic charts) feel free to reply, message, ask, or reblog! I have a lot of projects I'm working on but I love to chat.

a kiss with a fist and such
i'm working on a lil somethin something where chilchuck and laios get into a fistfight at a bar and then make out. here's a really cringe aperitif to set up the conflict. it's pre-canon, i guess?? falin, namari and shuro are there. unfortunately for them.
nothing much happens in this excerpt but the final will involve romantic interests being violent to each other. i'd recommend not reading it if you're sensitive to that, but it's nothing too far outside the realm of what is portrayed in the manga lol
Tumblr media
Laios had read volumes upon volumes of advice for the aspiring dungeon crawler and the content of this research could be summed up as thus: the party leader’s main objective is to keep everyone from killing each other before a monster can. The old king’s dungeon contained labyrinths that slithered like restless serpents, spike traps, false walls, beasts and enchanted baubles, but no trick more treacherous than pitting adventurers against one another. Why bother with conjuring monsters if you could simply torment your intruders until someone snapped? Sometimes a squabble over good loot was all it took for a party to dissolve.
Falin did most of the work in smoothing over the occasional interpersonal conflict, her calm smile and soft voice able to soothe even banshees, but there was only so much goodwill Laios’ kind little sister could afford him. Not everyone cared to learn the ins and outs of minotaur husbandry, or the complicated respiratory system of a seven-headed hydra, halfway down the magic murder hole. Laios didn’t really know what else there would be to talk about in a dungeon, though, so he often ran his mouth to fill the silence.
“Laios, if I hear one more fact about manticore scat I’ll make sure you’ll be living the dream.”
Chilchuck glowered up at Laios, hands on his hips, brows furrowed into a cute little crease.
“C’mon, it was relevant,” Laios said, cleaning his hands off with an already filthy handkerchief. “It’s fresh, so the monster’s nearby.”
“Fantastic news! I didn’t need a report on the texture. Let’s go.”
Chilchuck, the new hire, was an ornery sort. Good at his job—one would hope, with the astonishing upfront fee—but not with people. Laios could relate. A glance at the scrunched-up faces of Namari, Marcille and Shuro confirmed that Chilchuck wasn’t just bitching for the sake of it this time. He searched Falin’s strained grin for some backup, but she was at a loss.
Luckily, there were workarounds for the warrior in want of charisma.
“Cheer up, little guy.” A vein bulged out on Chilchuck’s forehead; Falin grimaced and mouthed an apology behind Laios’ back. “I’ll buy everyone a round at the tavern once the job’s done.”
Chilchuck debated holding the grudge, then sighed with a slumping of the shoulders.
“All the more reason to get a move on, then,” Namari said cheerily, glad to forget the scene they’d just witnessed. She clapped Chilchuck on the shoulder as she passed, staggering him out of his confrontational stance. He grunted and let it go, folding his hands behind his head and continuing down the tunnel.
“Nailed it,” Laios whispered to Falin, who met him with a congratulatory pat on the back. Wasting his cut of the profits on beer wasn’t wise with rent coming up, but the party’s cohesion was important, too. They’d managed to kill a green dragon last week, and it would be nice to keep that ball rolling.
“Good job, big brother! Um, next time, maybe don’t… call Chilchuck that.” “Why? I’m just trying to be friendly.” “Um… well, with half-foots, it’s sort of a-“
“C’mon, you two. Unless you want to get the bill after happy hour ends,” Chilchuck called, his small voice booming off the stone tiled walls.  Laios jogged after the rest of the party, armor clanking as he went, with Falin not far behind.

Tumblr media
I wrote a Whole Response to this ask and then I was like oh I wanna browse clown tumblr a bit so I went to save it as a draft and TUMBLR made it come up RED and deleted my whoole thing. So the ask box and the drafts on the blog get eaten up into tumblr’s bottomless gullet. Save me, friends :0( [sad honking noises]
BUT!! Thank you so so much for the ask anon, I got so excited!! :03
You all know parties, pierrot, and scares, but HERE are some clown breeds for YOU that you might not have known about!! (Maybe some of my personal favs hehe)
Porcelains are a favorite of mine- maybe because I care for one myself!!! I’ve seen a lot of pictures of them on my dash, but no one really talking about the breed itself. I think it’s pretty important to do so since they’re not a beginner breed, mostly due to their fragility. They’re very prone to cracking :,0( They evolved from clayface clowns, and their porcelain skin was believe to have been evolved to protect them, like a bird’s egg would- so it’s very good at evenly distributing force, but certain things can cause it to crack.
They enjoy the finer things in life- frills and shiny objects, pastries and sweets- Pinkee has been particularly fond of tea parties recently…. <3 They’re usually very small and dainty little things!! They’re also commonly mixed with other clown breeds such as parties or Pierrot!! Pinkee says hello!!
Rodeos are a breed of clown that I don’t think gets enough love, especially because they’re so so interesting!! Not many people care for them in the home- which I understand, since it’s a bit difficult to reproduce their natural environment. They’re used to warmth, having originated from the desert, and you know.., bull fights are a little difficult to just whip out in your backyard. They’re a very daring, energetic, and charming breed though! Some of my favs <3
Acrobats!!! Ough!! /pos!! They’re definitely not a breed I see on tumblr a lot, in comparison to their working human counterparts for which they were named. Different varieties/subspecies have popped up all over the globe, which I think is really cool!! They tend to parallel the humans performing the tricks they love :)) which I think is really sweet.. <3 They require a looooot of space, which is why they’re not as common domestically- they need room and equipment to swing and leap around. Their unique behaviors are what make them some of my favorites!!
Jesters have been making a comeback, as evident from my little friend Pinkee. They’re a living underdog story, really! They originate from the court jester, which was a breed that was believed to have gone extinct by the 21st century, due to the loss of their habitat and the way they evolved into different modern breeds of clown. But following the discovery of an isolated colony, clown husbandry enthusiasts worldwide have been working to spread this newer, more modern form of this breed that is more reminiscent of the court jester!! Court jesters themselves are very interesting to me, I always have some hope they’re not actually extinct,,
Teddies are, well- very similar to teddy bears, and come in a lot of different aesthetic varieties!! Usually very frilly and fluffy <33 They’re very good with kids and are overall just an extremely pleasant breed and wonderful for families! Very low maintenance as well- though they still need love and attention just like any other clown!!! They’re super common- sometimes you’ll see a teddy and you might not even know it’s a living clown, which has spooked me at the shelter,,,,,,,,Many Times,,,,,,,, I love them dearly though, they’re such cute little things! They love pastries and fluffier foods like cotton candy!
And those are some of my favs/breeds I think deserve more love!!!!! I can write up some more if you need, I was just very excited to write abt these guys!!!
Sending love! Please update us on that master post if you can!
