story

Heliv, also called Heli, grew up in a little village on a planet, that is overgrown with trees, bushes and weed, and has an incredible nature. She always only had her grandmother, who started to show her what it means to value the nature from a young age on and taught her various effects and healing powers of different herbs and plants.

When Heli was about seventeen years old, the Clone Wars began. It didn't take long, until the enemy troops invaded her home planet. During a shoot-out, her grandmother's house was caught in a heavy explosion. While Heli escaped with severe injuries, her only attachment figure died.

Soon after the incident, the Republic came to help, and the planet was freed from the separatist forces. Still, the fact remained that the young Togruta felt left behind in a world, that seemed too big and cruel for her.

As a reaction to that, Heli departed from the society and started to live a secluded, lonely life in a small cottage in the woods.

Now, almost three years later, she still takes interest in the nature and different medical plants and produces her own medicine. To earn herself some credits, she brings the medication back to the near village and tries to help the people there.

Ettore: Despises everyone who has bad manners, he had a pretty strict mother who made him a really gentleman. He like to keep the tables clean.

Sadako: She can't stand nosey people. Arrogant one's are even worse

Helis: He vibes with anyone! But please be clean, no one can handle smelly people.

Steffany: She doesn't like when people start to shake their legs, chew loudly or people who wears gold pieces. FOR REAL SHE FINDS THEM SO WEIRD AND UGLY.

Valentine: Everyone who he finds odd, like not the good type of odd. The one's who are an absolute menace and are WEIRD, he hates loud noises too, specially if they aren't harmonious and people who tries to outshine him.

Well, since they all shattered my hopes, dreams and stuff like that I'm pretty sure I can at least beat... Any of them? Like all my characters are superhuman in some degree, yeah I can ride over them with my car but they definitely can survive that. But if I'm becoming my versions on the universe (Merle or Lazarus) I still can't do much shit against the main cast, I definitely can fight some early villain's as Merle and some really strong folks as Lazarus but fighting against my main cast specially if they are all together? Impossible, I'll be beaten easily.

Sometimes we can't live this way forever, it's about changing, choosing who you want to be after everything you have lived. That's the moving force of Sadako and Valentine, they both wear mask as heroes but for different reasons. heliv - concept art & modeling

when i had the idea for heliv, i didn't want her to be force sensitive or anything like that. i wanted her to be a "normal" person in the galaxy, whose life became a little bit more complicated due to ongoing wars and conflicts.

soon i had the idea with the grandmother as her role model, teacher and attachment person. i also had the idea that heli has some kind of scars. in addition to the first paragraph, i slowly made up my tiny story about her and was relatively happy about that part.

variations

in the beginning, the only thing i knew was that i wanted her to have some earthy tones for her clothes. at the same time, they should be comfortable. like you can see, i was clearly inspired by wrecker's poncho era (have you seen how cute that man looks in that?) but i soon decided that it wasn't her fit. i also experimented with skin tones and the pattern on her face.

character sheet

as soon as i knew that she would be outside a lot, studying plants, i knew she needed to have some kind of bags on her, so she could transport all her stuff. so i had to make a mix out of a nice outfit and the new belt she was going to have, so everything would fit perfectly fine and was reachable and practical. i finally decided on the jacket and was very happy about how it turned out. (i also was happy about studying echo's and tech's belt thoroughly, i never noticed how good they look.)

modeling

when i was happy with her look, i started to watch a bunch of tutorials and stuff and started my first attempts with blender. they looked horrible. but, to be fair, i think blender is a very intuitive program and there are a lot of tutorials that can help you with your workflow. as soon as you start to recognize different patterns, functions and features, it's going to be a lot easier.

i think i actively modeled about two weeks until i got my final result, which i was happy with. don't forget, it was my first try and of course it's not as perfect or professional as it would be by a 3d/blender pro, but i'm still very proud of what i created.

the next step was to add some textures and start with rigging the character. you can see the end result in this post.
