Warnings: accidental marriage,
Summary: You wait for Nadesir at the surf’s edge. You’re greeted by a different Night Lord.
Three weeks later at sunset find you once again by yourself as you wander the beach. You'd hoped to find Nadesir amongst the waves, or perhaps in the shallows. You'd brought along a picnic basket full of food to share with him, as he'd expressed an interest in trying human food. You'd done some research to make sure everything that You'd brought with you was safe for him to eat, not wanting to accidentally give him something that would make him sick.
Allegedly, astartes could eat nearly anything apart from certain kinds of toxic industrial waste… and from the forums You'd wandered into (and back out of) even that was up for debate, depending on the type of astartes. Allegedly there was a green type of astartes who thrived in polluted waters and consumed garbage and spread disease and parasites like it was their divinely mandated duty.
You were pretty sure that was hysterical bullshit, as You'd also been warned that all night lords were vicious and cruel bastards who enjoyed tormenting and slowly killing any human unfortunate enough to meet one, no matter the circumstances and Nadesir has been a wonderful companion.
You kicked off your sandals And went wading knees deep into the surf, a relaxed sigh leaving your lips as the constant itching that plagued you whenever you were out of water for more than a couple of hours went away. None of the doctors you went to for the issue could do anything to actually help. The medicated lotions and topical steroids had done fuck-all and your skin had been biopsies several times in different spots, to inconclusive or negative results.
You'd resorted to going swimming once a day whenever your work schedule allowed, and showering daily in the evenings, which at least allowed you to get enough sleep throughout the night. You also wore mittens to sleep to avoid scratching your skin raw in your sleep.
A deep, gleeful voice called out from the next cresting wave, a marble in his voice that you did not trust “Ohh? What's a tasty little mortal morsel like you doing here? Don't you know that dangerous creatures lurk in these waters?” A large, midnight blue mer with red ear-fibs and lightning-like patterns on his scales rumbled. He looked similar to Nadesir, but he had a distinctive scar on his lips that Nadesir didn't.
You explain earnestly “I’m waiting for someone. Are you one of Nadesir’s older brothers?” He had warned you that some of his older brothers were likely to be suspicious or wary or both of you at first, in addition to hostile. He’d given you a beautiful necklace made of shell and bone to wear the last time the two of you had met up, both as a gift and a way to prove that you and he were close, so that they wouldn't try to chase you off. You'd carved something for him out of a hardy wood and lacquered it with a waterproof sealant. Yo hoped that he’d like the gift.
THe strange Night Lord let out an amused trill, swimming closer to you, the crooked smirk on his face turning into something more thoughtful “I have several q questions little mortal, though I can guess their answers. How did you and Nadesir meet? How… Close are the two of you~?”
A bit of a blush warms yoru face and you shift a little in place before you answer “We met several months sago and I helped him out of a tight spot… every so often after that we meet up again. He gave me this last week.” YOu explain, lightly touching the hand-crafted necklace he’d gifted you. You weren’t sure as to how much detail you should give without asking nNadesir first. You imagined that being trapped in an industrial fishing net was a humiliating experience, in addition to being mildly traumatizing nd awful. You also weren’t sure the exact nature of the relationship that you and he had. Sure, you and he spent time together - some of that time was spent kissing and being physically intimate, but it wasn’t as if you and he had talked about what each wanted out of this relationship, and any plans either you or he had for the future in regards to whatever this was.
The night lord grinned, sharp teeth flashing in the low light of dusk “And just what sort of trouble did Nadesir get into, hmm? He's a fairly capable scout, though his curiosity can get the better of him.”
You hesitate for a moment, fairly certain that you shouldn’t tell this strange astartes about how your… Lover? Boyfriend? Situationship? Had gotten entangled and washed up on shore, trapped for hours until you came along and rescued him. “Oh… He just needed a hand, so I helped him out.”
“Uh-huh. Any particular reasons why he wou- off! Rude!” The night lord spluttered as a fast moving, midnight blue blur crashed into him at high speed.
You take a half-step back towards the shore in surprise before stop backing up, as the blur turned out to be Nadesir, who hissed “YOu have your own human to woo! Leave her alone, Khopesh!”
“Aww, I wouldn't steal your mortal from you, little brother! I was just curious about her, considering how much you sigh wistfully for her presence when you’re not at her side… And the moon-eyed daydreaming you do is endearingly annoying.” Khopesh purred, smirking at Nadesir as he spoke.
“You also pine for your human when you’re away from them!” Nadesir snaps back, still attempting to wrestle his older brother with limited success.
“Khopesh spluttered “I… I just… THat’s not… So? You’re the one who’s tied a sanguinary bond to his chosen human. I haven’t done that yet. I hadn’t realized you were so serious about her.”
“A what?” You ask, confused.
“A what?” Nadesir echoes, letting go of his older brother, head tilting a little as his ears fin flicked in befuddlement.
“... Well I suppose they can happen accidentally, although I’m curious as to how she accidentally swallowed a little bit of your blood, younger brother of mine. Bleeding around humans can have… Interesting consequences.” Khopesh rumbled, arching a judgmental eyebrow at both you and Nadesir - though mostly at Nadesir it seemed.
Nadesir looked as confused as you felt “What do you mean by that, Khopesh? In.. In the hypothetical situation of an Astartes bleeding near a human… Not that I would have… necessarily had cause to bleed around any humans, and particularly not my love specifically.”
“Well, you know how sometimes when a human has become so deeply loved and/or needed by an Astartes, the human is granted a lifespan similar to us, as wella s turned into a mer, so that they can spend far more of their time with their beloved?” Khopesh explains, pausing for a moment to make sure that Nadesir was following his explanation.
You’d heard stories about Mers being able to transform humans, to grant them eternal life somehow. You’d thought it was bullshit… But apparently there was truth to those myths after all. You stayed quiet, listening closely.
“Transforming a human into a mer requires that the human either consume the flesh of an Astartes, or drink a large amount of blood from an astartes. The transformation is slow and takes place over the course of several months, with the final stages causing the human to return to the site where they’d consumed flesh or blood of an astartes, where they shed any clothing they are wearing and venture into the ocean… There they shed their human form, transforming into a mer. Your human hasn’t consumed enough blood or flesh to transform, but your scent and hers are inextricably intertwined.. It is a claim and a warning to other astartes that she is yours, and if they try to poach or kill her, you will come for them… It’s similar to wedding vows for humans, though truly permanent.” Khopesh explained with an amused hum.
“Married?” You and Nadesir splutter at the same time. You’re internally reeling at the thought. You’re quite fond of him, yes. But… Married? You’re not entirely sure how you feel about that. At least Nadesir looks as shocked and surprised as you are. You’re pretty sure he didn’t meant to lay claim to you on purpose. You also… Find yourself… Not minding the idea of being his… It also means that he is yours, or at least a piece of his heart? You mentally shake yourself. Once this older brother of Nadesir leaves, you’re going to ask him out right about what sort of relationship he’s interested in pursuing with you, and what if anything he’d like to do with this… Bond between you and him.
“I… I do feel very much for you and have been courting you! I just. Uhm. I didn’t mean to marry you before starting to date you. I was going to ask, later!” Nadesir blurted out, sinking up to his nose in the water, blushing darkly at you “If… If our courtship went well.”
Khopesh dipped out of sight, but you could still see his dark eyes watching you and him, laughter in them as well. You ignored his watchful gaze and answered earnestly “I care for you deeply as well. If you asked me now if I wanted to marry you, my answer would be not yet, as we’ve only known each other for a couple of months. Perhaps we should come back to the accidentally married thing in a few months?”
Nadesir nodded, a small smile lighting up his handsome features beautifully “That sounds like a good idea… And not to change the topic so quickly but I really would like to know what’s in the basket you brought? Whatever it is smells really good.”
You are happy to pivot to a different topic of conversation. This relationship between you and Nadesir is very  new, and he’s one of a handful of people you’ve ever dated. You don’t want to rush things. “I brought some  human food that I really enjoy, for the two of us to share. You mentioned wanting to try some, so I brought a bunch of different kinds of snack-type foods to try.”
Nadesir beams and follows you up onto the shore as you sit down, spreading out the blanket and patting a spot for him to sit next to you “That’s wonderful! Thank you.” He murmurs, eagerly reaching into the now open basket, helping you pull out the many small dishes you’d brought.

Warnings: cops, emotional breakdown,
Summary: You and Nadesir speak to Relevant Authorities post-kidnapping, and then cuddle in a safe place.
“-and that’s when I felt her distress. I hunted the vehicle that was holding her hostage, popping the tires and tearing in through the roof. I killed the baseline who dared threaten her with a gun and left the rest for the Salamanders to deal with.” Nadesir explained to the Dark Angel Interrogator chaplain, his wings resettling irritably on his back as he stares the loyalist down. He is holding onto your hand as tightly as he knows won’t hurt you. He wants you in his arms, but you’re talking to the human police officer not far from where you and he are standing, so this is what he’s going to get for now “Given the mood the Dragons are in, if you want to talk to any of the kidnappers while they still live, you should do so now. The Dragons’ Wrath is well known, after all.”
“Do you have any idea as to why your bonded might have been kidnapped? Does she have any living enemies who might want to capture her for whatever reason?” The Chaplain asks, a concerned frown appearing on his face “This is not the first couple of times that bonded baselines have been attempted to be kidnapped while their astartes are away from their side.”
Nadesir’s wings flare open and his eyes begin to glow a furious red, his thin, long tail whipping back and forth before wrapping around your waist, yanking you to his side, a low, unhappy growl in his voice as he speaks "There have been what?” His distress skyrockets. “I thought this had to do with whatever the hell the Hydra have been up to in this area for the past several months. A pack of them tried to kidnap my bonded weeks ago, but only the once. I don’t know why they would want her, other than that she is amazing, wonderful, beautiful and talented.”
“... I hadn’t been informed that there was an active Hydra cell in this area.” The Chaplain murmured, the frown on his face deepening.
“I was tracking one of the Hydra before I felt my beloved bonded’s distress and fear and went to rescue her.” Nadesir explained. Part of him knew that the Salamander patrol wouldn’t have let the kidnappers get far… But he couldn’t let you fester in your fear and distress, not when he could try and alleviate it. Was it possible that was done by the Hydra in order to keep him from getting one of the injured fuckers and dragging him to base to be slowly roasted on a spit by irritated Salamanders? Possibly. But he couldn’t muster up the ability to care, not with the scare that both you and he had. “The Hydra was injured, or at least feigning an injury to one of his legs.” Just in case a random brother showed up injured in the same way for treatment, it was possible that he was an incognito Hydra. Nadesir reported where he’d followed the Hydra to, before rushing off to go rescue you. “Is there anything else you needed from me in this investigation?”
The chaplain shook his head “No, if your bonded is done speaking with the investigator-baseline you may retreat to your personal nest, or to the nearby base.”
Nadesir did have a room assigned to him in the relatively small Astartes in the little town  you lived in. It was well fortified and largely unlived in, as your cozy home was usually adequate for a place to sleep and spend time together in… But as it was possible you’d been taken from there… His wingtips twitched and his tail tightened around where he’d curled it around you, a low rumble leaving him. “Very well.” He turns and scoops you up, switching to English “Are you ready to go home?”
You sigh, leaning into his familiar warmth, grateful beyond words to have his steady presence with you in this awful time. “I would love to say yes, but I was kidnapped from our home, and the police have cordoned it off as one of the crime scenes to investigate. We’re going-”
“-to be staying in the Astartes base. I have an assigned room there, as I am a permanent resident of our home town. I do have some things stashed there for extra comfort. It is safer than a hotel.” Nadesir offered firmly. Part of him wanted to make it a demand, but you could get prickly about such things. “It is much safer. Please?”
You sigh and hug him tightly. You can see the anxiety in his big, midnight black eyes, the tension in his wings, and of course, his tail rarely squeezes you this tightly unless he’s terribly anxious. You also know that you’re in shock after being kidnapped, and that when the adrenaline and emotional numbing wears off you’re going to be a complete mess. “Alright, we’ll go to the base. I’m going to need clothes for work, once I’m ready to go back.” You’ll need to talk to your shift lead about taking time off to process being kidnapped… and you’ll probably have to talk to the (ugh) police again… You feel your lower lip tremble a little and your voice hitches “Okay, we can go n-now.”
The police officer asks “Do you want to take a ride back to town in my car? With your Astartes it’ll be a tight fit.”
You flinch at the thought of getting into another car, but Nadesir speaks up before you can try and figure out what to say.
“I’m going to carry her back to the Astartes base. Astartes can run as fast as most standard cars, and with my wings, I can fly her a more direct path there. There are other humans who were briefly taken.” He also doubted that the Salamanders were going to let their humans out of arm’s reach, much less driven by car back to base, but that was their conversation to have, not his.
“Alright then.” The officer nodded, heading to the next freshly traumatized human to speak with.
~
You enjoyed the flight to the Astartes base, despite the adrenaline crash causing you to start sobbing and shaking as you cling tightly to Vanya, burying your face into one of his broad shoulders, your body shaking violently from the force of your sobs. You’d been terrified when the armed kidnappers had dragged you from  your home, threatening worse than death if you didn’t comply with them.
You had no idea why you’d been kidnapped, and had desperately hoped that Vanya would somehow be able to find you. And find you he did. The strength it took to rip open a van was… It was incredible. He was incredible, and you loved him so much. You were so, so grateful to have met him, that he’d decided to stay, despite your frequent nightmares and long working hours as a medical professional.
“I’ve got you, beloved. There is nowhere on this world where you could be taken where I would not eventually follow and free you. I do not know who tried to take you, but I will guard and protect you more vigilantly. I just… I hope you can forgive me for being away when you were under threat.” Vanya apologizes, dark eyes filled with guilt and determination as he landed lightly in front of the base, silently showing the door guards his id and you and he being waved through. “Do you need to be seen by an apothecary?”
You shake your head “I wasn’t physically harmed… and me being kidnapped wasn’t your fault, wasn’t due to some failing on your part, Vanya. It was the fault of the kidnappers who tried to take me away, for whatever reasons they thought they had.” You lean in closer to him, hugging him tightly as he brings you to a midnight blue door with red trim.
He opens the door, revealing a sparsely decorated room, with astartes sized furniture. It did have little touches that made it clear that this room belonged to Vanya, but it was nothing like yours and his bedroom in your home. “What do you need, my love?”
“I… Hold me? And… I’m starting to get hungry, now that the adrenaline has worn off. Something mild and filling.” You ask, feeling timid and exhausted. “And something to drink. I should drink water…” though the idea of having a stiff drink was appealing.
Nadesir nodded, carrying  you over to his bed and setting you down. He gives you a gentle kiss on the lips before kneeling down and dragging a small (to him) chest out from under his bed, pulling out two boxes of your favorite kinds of granola bars, and several plastic bottles of water. “I’ve some nonperishable food stashed in here for the both of us, so eat as much as you like.”
“That’s… that’s really thoughtful of you. I’m glad you didn’t have to leave to get me food.” You respond, grateful beyond words. You were hungry, but the idea of going to the communal cafeteria in the base, or him going out to grab you something to eat outside of the base… Away from you for who knew how long, filled you with a nervous anxiety that you did not want to deal with. Nor did you want to be perceived by others right now.
“I figured if I brought you here, it was likely due to an emergency situation of some kind, since our usual nest is much more comfortable, and planned accordingly.” He explains, preening at the praise as he sits on the bed, leaning into you, one arm curling around your waist as you open one of the granola bar’s packaging and biting into it. He pulls a blanket and drapes it around both you and him, humming softly, eyes partially closed.
You pause eating long enough to crawl into his lap, giving him a kiss on the cheek before settling down in his warm, familiar, safe lap, nibbling on the food he’d thoughtfully provided for you until the post-adrenaline energy crash dragged you into sleep.

Questions
Author’s note: A third fic for Nadesir! Previous. Next
Tagged: @egrets-not-regrets
Warnings: none! Please ask me to tag if you find something squicky or triggering
Summary: You ask about those strange teal marines. What you get is a peek into Astartes Internal Politics.
"Vanya... Who were those strange marines? Please tell me why you've been hovering so closely, as of the past three months. It's not as if those shape-shifting marines have been back... Right?" You ask, staring up at your Night Lord, resisting the urge to put your hands on your hips or cross your arms over your chest defensively. Currently you were in the break room of the hospital you'd been working at, with him as your own personal - if very large - shadow. When he wasn't off on a hunt, he'd decided to stick to your side as if you'd disappear if he didn't see you all the time.
"... I still go on hunts. We aren't together all the time." Vanya pointed out, a small pout on his lips that you refused to think of in the moment as endearing. His wings shifted and flexed against his back a little, and you noted the way that his claws extended and sheathed themselves. You silently wonder if he's aware he's doing that, or if it was a nervous tic. You wanted to know why he - and every other marine in town - had been so stressed. No one was able to get them to talk about it,a nd it was beyond frustrating and worrying.
"Yeah. As if I wouldn't notice the Salamanders or Ultramarines lurking in my bushes when you're gone. None of you did this before those teal marines showed up, so why? Who are they?" You press. You stand up and make your way over to where he's standing - leaning against one corner of the room, eyes on the windows and the door into the room. You gently take one of his large hands in both of yours, running your fingers over his knuckles and tracing the lines of his palms "You've mentioned that we're bonded... That makes us partners, right?"
"I... Yes. We are bonded. I will protect and care for you for as long as I am able." Vanya responded, his free hand reaching up to cup your face, and gently rubbing his thumb across one of your cheeks. "Never doubt your safety while you are with me... Please." His voice broke a little on that last word, and you could see tears in his midnight black eyes.
"Oh... Vanya. Of course I trust you." You murmur, going up on your tiptoes to give him a kiss on the shoulder - the highest part of him that you could reach without him bending over or you finding something to climb on. "I just want to know what's going on. Why. and I'm not the only one who wants to know why my partner's acting as if we're going to be invaded at any moment. The bright yellow space marines building defensive structures all over town isn't in the least bit subtle. Nor are the steel grey and hazard striped marines trapping the roads in and out of town. What's going on? We want to be able to help! Or at least understand why all of you are preparing for what feels like war."
Vanya flinched a little at the mention of war. He stares into your eyes intently for several moments before letting out a long, deep sigh. "The teal marines are members of the Alpha Legion. They are dangerous, not just because they are Astartes, but because of their... Specific skillset and abilities. They are spies, saboteurs. Social engineers - but unlike the Blueberry Boyscouts who maximize the efficiency of everything around them in order to ensure the optimal happiness of everyone around them - the only ones aware of why and what their goals are is the Alpha Legion themselves... And most likely, their -" He abruptly stopped talking, ducking his head a little.
You were about to ask more about this Alpha Legion when one of the Space Marine Apothecaries (their equivalent to doctors) came walking in. He was in his primarily white armor, with some green. It was a darker shade of green than salamanders' wore, and the emblem on his pauldron was different. Instead of a drake's head, it was a sword pointed down, with a pair of wings coming out from the hilt of the blade. Two dark green and black painted Astartes followed after him, followed by a chaplain of the same chapter. You didn't recognize the legion emblem, but it was very clear to you that Vanya did.
Vanya scooped you up and tucked you behind him, his wings wrapping around you tightly. You could feel him trembling slightly. He began talking in Gothic - the language that all Space marines spoke (at least in the area you lived in) - very rapidly. He'd been teaching you the language, but you could only pick out a few words "Why." and "You." and "Here." but that was far from the only thing he'd said.
One of the dark green marines began to speak, the bass rumble demanding attention. You caught the words "Legion." and "Reseach." but his accent was very different from Vanya's, making it more difficult for you to begin to understand what he was saying. "Vanya, what's going on?" You ask, gently touching one of his wings to get his attention after the strange marine stopped talking.
Vanya flinches under your touch. "Interrogator Chaplain wants to talk to us. I don't know why he's here. I don't want him here. I've told him that unless I'm being arrested, I refuse to speak to him or his brothers without Captain Urar or two of his lieutenants present."
"... Why would these marines be the ones arresting you? I've never seen them before." You ask. You'd also like to know why he might be getting arrested, but that's a different kettle of fish to fry later.
"They're Dark Angels." Vanya says, as if that's supposed to mean anything to you. It really does not, but you can tell that this is Not The Time to ask clarifying questions about strange astartes. "Is there any way I can help? I do have my phone." You are barely whispering, but are well aware of just how sensitive Space Marines' hearing is.
"Please text one of your coworkers who is bonded... To an Ultramarine. I think they have a better relationship to the first than Salamanders do." Vanya responds. He isn't making much sense, but hopefully he will explain once this situation is dealt with.
You nod and text Melody [Four Dark Angels - including someone called an Interrogator Chaplain according to Vanya are in the break room. Can you send Arrios and Vitius in here to help? Vanya's scared :(]
The bass-voiced space marine spoke again, this time you could clearly understand him "Night Lord Raptor, you will set down the human you are currently holding in your wings and come with us. We'd like to talk to you about your encounter with a squad of Alpha Legionnaires."
"... There isn't much to tell, chaplain." Vanya countered, and you could tell he was trying very hard not to sound as worried as he was to these strangers "As I informed Captain Urar months ago, I was headed back to the home I share with my bonded - who I am currently holding and she has not asked me to put her down, so I won't - after hunting some of the... I believe they are called elk? and was carrying the elk I had killed home in order to dress the body and prepare the meat and bones for consumption when I heard her speaking to someone who was using a copy of my own voice. I dropped the deer and sprinted to her side at full speed, calling for assistance as I had noted the tracks of more astartes around our home territory and knew that none of the local astartes would tread so close to our home and not be in easy sight line so as not to provoke a misunderstanding. I found an alpha legionnaire pretending to be myself and drove him out of the house. Two squads of flamer-wielding Salamanders chased them into the woods."
"You did not hunt down the Alpha Legionnaire for invading your home territory and pretending to be yourself to your bonded?" Bass asked, sounding equal parts skeptical and surprised.
Your phone buzzed. You read the text from Melody [Vitius and Arrios are on their way. ETA 1 minute. Any bloodshed?]
That didn't help your nerves at all. Thanks Melody! You think sarcastically as you text her back [None yet. Four against one aren't good odds, even if Vanya can fly. Though he's currently wrapped me up in his wings.]
"I was focused on making sure that my bonded felt safe in our home and securing the internal perimeter. I have been working alongside the other tracker-trained astartes who live here to try and find the Snakes hiding in the woods, but, as you should well know, trying to find a hiding alpha legionnaire is about as easy as catching smoke in high winds when they don't want to be found. I do not know if anyone else has had run-ins with these particular shapeshifters, you'd need to request information from the acting chapter master." Vanya answered, his wings tightening a little further around your body, though his shaking had slowed down a little.
"... And the acting chapter master is...? Do you recognize him as your chapter master, and all that entails, Night Lord?" Bass-y Astartes asked.
Vanya's answer came after a long pause "The acting chapter master of this town is Captain Urar... And if you insist on knowing the answer to the second question..."
"I do." Bass pressed.
"... I do recognize captain Urar as my chapter master, while l live in this area. In this time." Vanya responded, voice quiet but steady.
"Interrogator Chaplain Sariel, is there a particular reason why you and your... Brothers have deigned to grace this hospital with your presence? None of you are injured." The familiar and welcome voice of Apothecary Arrios called out, sounding equal parts annoyed and exasperated. "And I know for a fact that there aren't any injured Dark Angels being tended to in this hospital."
"We have been tracking the movements of several different alpha legionnaire squads in this region. When I noted that one of the more influential squads came here I brought my brothers to investigate why they came here." Bassy responded with a small huff in his voice.
"Well if you figure that out, please do tell the rest of us. As far as any of us can figure, the damned snakes decided to try and steal one of our bonded humans for the entertainment value. If you have any more questions, please direct them to captain Urar or Lieutenant Dexrial, who are our acting Chapter master and first captain respectively. Please stop badgering random members of our rag-tag community without warning, it's stressful for everyone involved." Vitius interjected, also sounding annoyed and mildly bored.
"... Fine, although I will remind you of just how dangerous allowing traitors in your midst is. Good day, brother apothecaries." Bass growled.
You could hear the sounds of several astartes leaving the room. Vanya did not put you down.
"How are you holding up?" Arrios asked, sounding genuinely concerned.
"I am unharmed. Your arrival was quite timely." Vanya murmured. You could hear the gratitude in his voice.
"Good! Throne, this is getting more annoying by the week. First hydras trying to steal our dear humans away, now a throne-cursed Dark Angel Interrogator Chaplain and his goon squad here. Fuck! I was hoping to avoid this kind of nonsense when my human decided to move to a town of this size. See you around." Arrios called out, before you could hear another set of astartes sized footsteps leaving.
"You sure you're alright?" Vitius asked after several moments had passed.
"Yes, I'm fine. A little off-balance from one of them showing up unexpectedly, but nothing I cannot handle." Vanya responded. "... Tell my bonded's boss that she's coming home early with me. I... I need to keep her close. Keep her safe in our nest. She really doesn't like it when I growl at her patients."
Vitius answered "Of course. Captain Urar's likely going to want to talk to you, when you're ready to handle that."
"I... I know. It's... I will." Vanya responded, his wings curling a little tighter around you.
You gently rub his wings, hoping that the touch is grounding for him. You'd like to protest that you'd like to finish the rest of the work day... But Vanya is still shaking, and he sounds so vulnerable. If extra cuddles is what he needs to calm down, extra cuddles are something you're happy to offer him.
"Thank you, Cousin." Vitius murmured. "Take care."
"I will." With that Vanya, still holding you, walked out of the hospital. You wiggled a little, but all that provoked was a small, anxious whine from your Night Lord, so you stayed still until he eventually put you down, wings unfurling from around your body.
You weren't surprised to find that he'd taken you home. You smile gently up at him and ask "Hug?"
"Hug." He agrees, once again picking you up as his strong arms wrap around you. He buried his face in your shoulder, breathing in deeply as you ran your fingers through his long black hair.

Warnings: injuries, blood mention, poor fishing practices
Summary: You find an astartes caught up in a hooked fishing net, and help him get free.
You hear a low, warning hiss from the tangled mass of netting and hooks that washed up on your favorite beach. Something large and upset struggled within the taut metal cording and was bleeding red blood, the hissing intensifying as the wickedly sharp hooks bit into midnight blue flesh. Was it smart for you to approach this frantic, injured creature as it struggled? Probably not, but there was something very human sounding in the pained sounds that left the being.
“Woah… Hey… Just stay still and I'll get you out of this.” You call out to the being, hoping that your soothing tone of voice would help convey your intentions, if whatever this is didn't understand English.
A large eye the color of a moonless and starless night glares at you suspiciously from a gap in the netting as dagger-sharp teeth gnawed at of the entangling knots as his large head whipped sharply from one side to the other, desperately trying to get himself free “Why help? Strangers.” the astartes growled out.
“Because you need help and are in pain. Will you let me come closer to help you out of the net? Or is there someone I can contact who you do trust to get you out of this?” You asked, keeping your voice even and calm, making sure not to make any sudden movements, so as to not further distress the trapped astartes.
The large mer struggled in the net as a low and pained growl rumbled in his chest. “... My shiver is far from here. I am… Was scouting when this happened.” He stares hard at you, midnight black eyes trying to pierce through your soul. “... If you deliberately hurt me, I will come for you. There is nowhere in this world, or in any other, that I won't be able to track you down and bring you to swift and bloody vengeance.”
This was far from the first time you’d been threatened by an injured and likely anxious astartes, and it was unlikely to be the last, considering the fact that you worked in emergency medicine. “I will do my best not to hurt you on purpose without warning. If I am moving something that is likely to cause you pain, like removing the hooks imbedded into your skin and muscle, I will warn you beforehand. Deal?” You knew better than to say so that he could brace for pain - nor did you have any pain reliever on hand that would work fast enough that wouldn’t be flushed from the Astartes’ system before it could hope to have any effect on him. You’d intended on going for a moonlit stroll down your favorite beach and hadn’t anticipated meeting an astartes in physical and medical distress.
The large, midnight blue astartes stared at you for several long moments before accepting with a rough “Reasonable. I agree.”
You nod, making careful and deliberate movements toward him, telegraphing what you were doing, so as to reduce the likelihood of accidentally startling the mer. Once you reach his side you look up at him, knife in hand, waiting for his agreement for you to start cutting through the netting.
“... Begin.” He huffed after several seconds, though there was a tiny smile lifting the corners of his lips. He seemed to be grateful that you were being so careful of his potential boundaries.
You nod and carefully begin to cut away at the netting binding him in place. Every so often you give him a moment or two of warning before carefully unhooking and pulling out the metal hooks imbedded into his flesh.Once you have his arms free, you offer the knife to him hilt first, silently offering to let him continue to free himself.
To your surprise the midnight blue astartes shakes his head and says “Continue. Your hands smaller. Better able to get hooks and knots… Doing well.”
You smile a little at his praise and continue to work on freeing the trapped astartes. All told it took you a couple of hours to ensure that every bit of rope and hook was out. You’re grateful for your medical training, which allows you to switch off the part of your brain that is absolutely delighted at the thought of being able to touch an astartes this much. Many of them large, well-muscled and handsome, and this midnight blue and dark red astartes is strikingly handsome, even bloodied and clearly exhausted. “Do you feel any lingering pain anywhere?” You ask as you resist the temptation to run your hands along his chest and tail - for purely professional reasons - some of the hooks were small.
“Some, but I am healing… Thank you, for helping me.” The Night lord rumbled, cupping you chin with one of his large hands, pitch black eyes shining with mischief. He tilts your chin up and kisses you, his lips chapped but warm.

Imposter
Summary: Nadesir comes home to find an Imposter talking to his human.  Next
Warnings: none
Tagged: @kit-williams
Nadesir adjusted the carcass of the large quadrupedal animal that he had been hunting for days in the forest that surrounded his bonded's home, pleased with his kill. Despite the animal's size, it had been quicker than he'd been expecting, and the pointed antlers it had used in a desperate charging in defense of it's life had somewhat dented his armor. Per the request of his human bonded, he had left a note on their "Communication Board" as she had called it saying that he was out for a hunt, and would be back in a few days. Ancient Terra was a far cry from the endless towers and thin, pollution-choked skies of what The Fools believed to be Holy Terra... But if divinity did exist - beyond Chaos being utter Bastards - Nadesir privately thought that it was in the natural beauty of this and worlds like it.
In the stillness of forests, In the thrill of the hunt.
... In the unexpected pull he had felt, years ago, to a small but fiery human woman who had growled at a half-dozen Salamanders who had found Nadesir half-dead and bleeding on the edge of small town that she served as one of the primary human medical professionals of. He had later learned that they were part of the Bonded Astartes who protected the humans from the predations of Feral Space Marines as apparently there were Human Killers. They had assumed that he was once such human killer, having been left behind due to being unable to keep up with the feral warband.
Nadesir, having been thrown through the warp from a truly shitty situation seconds ago, had not a single fucking clue what was going on. He'd been caught by some of the Red Corsairs who had been trying to soften him up for when their leader deigned to ask if he would join their warband. His precious bonded had shooed off the Salamanders and had spoken to him with more gentleness than he'd ever been given. Of course he'd been immediately smitten, and he had lived as long as he had by following his instincts - which had told him to follow this baseline human. She'd brought him to the small hospital and had the Apothecaries patch him up.
And not a single one of them had been thrilled to do it. Between the passive aggressive Ultramarine Apothecaries and the barely hidden hostilities of the Salamanders, the two loyalist chapter members had likely hoped that he would limp off to lick his wounds and leave them alone.
The joke had been on all of them, as Nadesir's bond with his human had only deepened over the weeks he'd spent in the hospital as she checked up on him at least once a day. There had been no question in his mind as to what he was going to do, when he was finally released. He had asked her, having done his very best to learn her language, if he could stay with her. He had phrased it as a debt that he owed her, for saving his life - knowing that at least one of the Ultramarines was listening and wanted to keep the... The softness, the yearning pull he felt for her from being known about and used against him. Her agreement had settled a nervous part of his soul that Nadesir hadn't known still existed.
That had been six years ago. The rest of the bonded Astartes had long since figured out that the two of them were bonded, and Nadesir had graciously agreed to patrolling the outskirts of the small town and pass along any intel about wandering war-bands that he was able to discover.
His bonded's voice broke him from his musing on the past, her warm, lovely voice soothing the part of him that always worried about her when he wasn't at her side "-at's when Doctor Jacobsen ordered another round of tests, like I had suggested weeks ago. Hopefully the lab facilities in the big city nearby will be able to help Mx. Sherdan. What do you think, Vanya?"
An astartes deep voice rumbled back, in an approximation of his voice. Utter confusion and dread filled Nadesir - Vanya was the name that his bonded had gifted him, and one he held close to his heart. As far as he knew, there was no one else named Vanya living near here, so why...? He didn't even notice that the elk he'd killed had dropped to the ground with a graceless thud as he broke into his fastest sprint, wings flaring a little in panic as his legs shortened the distance between himself and his beloved bonded. He could see several sets of Astartes sized footprints in the snow around her home - but the tread wasn't one he recognized... And besides, none of the other bonded astartes would dare go so close to his nest without sending him a vox message beforehand.
He slammed through the back door of their nest, the solid oak door having no chance against his enhanced bulk. He called out in Nostraman (he had been teaching her his first tongue), trying to keep his voice from trembling from the emotions roaring through him "Precious? Where are you?" He knocked down the doors between himself and from where he could hear the heart-beat of his bonded, staring at the imposter who dared take his form and voice.
His bonded blinked in confusion, looking at himself and the imposter several times, slowly starting to stand up from where she had been sitting on the couch, next to the imposter "I... What's... How?"
The imposter froze, staring at him for several seconds before blurting out "He's an imposter! I'll deal with him, stay here."
"LIAR! You are the imposter! I am the real Vanya! You dare sneak into my nest, try and charm my bonded while I am hunting for her?" None of the local astartes would dare, even if they had the capabilities. Which meant -
Fuck, he had been warned about this by the Salamander Captain who was the Defacto leader of the bonded astartes in this area. Nadesir sent a high priority vox message to Captain Urar [Alpha legionnaire invaded my nest. More likely close by.]
The Alpha legionnaire disguised as himself shrank back a little, but was still staying put "I am -" He started, only to be cut off by Nadesir's incredible, wonderful bonded.
"That's enough. I have no idea what the fuck is happening, but I do know of a couple of ways to figure out which of you is my Vanya. I am going to have one of you outside of my home, and the other inside - I am well aware of how sharp your hearing is, so I will have the one outside my house standing against the wind so as to not hear the questions I will ask. The real Vanya will answer correctly. Whichever of you is the imposter will be revealed and I want to know why you did this. Then you can seek shelter as yourself at the Astartes base in town."
"As you wish. Which of us is going outside?" Nadesir asked, crossing his arms over his chest. He really hoped that she would kick out the imposter, as the desire to rip and tear into this threat to his bonded, to his place was high, but he knew that his beloved disliked violence, and was just barely restraining himself. Still, as the imposter looked him in the eyes, he began to growl, bearing his teeth under his helmet, claws unsheathing on instinct.
Before his human could respond, several of the Teal Fuckers in their true colors came sprinting in through the back door, calling out in Gothic "Captain! We need to go! The salamanders are out in force and... If you're going to... Take the human... Ooooh fuck. She really does have a Night Lord."
Nadesir hissed loudly, scooping up his bonded before the serpentine bastards could attempt to kidnap his human, holding her firmly, careful to keep his claws from slicing through her clothes or worse, hurting her, spreading his wings and howling loudly (but not enough to deafen or injure his human. Ancient terrans were so delicate) "LEAVE! LEAVE NOW OR I WILL DISEMBOWEL EACH OF YOU AND MOUNT YOUR HEADS ON MY FENCE! I WILL WEAR YOUR SKIN AS CLOAKS AND USE YOUR SHITTY BONES AS DECORATION ON MY ARMOR!"
And, like the cowards they were, the alpha legionaries scrambled out the door, scurrying away like the filthy vermin they were. From the startled yelps and cursing, directly into the Salamander patrol that Urar sent.
Excellent response time, captain. Nadesir held his human tightly, removing his helmet and hiding his face in her neck, trembling. "I am your Vanya. My birth name is Nadesir, but you gifted me the name Vanya the third time we met in the hospital, before we could communicate with each other. Your favorite meal is venison steak with a foraged mushroom and green salad, with homemade bread. During our third year together you gave me this." He pulled out from beneath his armor a small, hand-carved wooden talisman that she'd given him. "You like to knit in the evenings after work, in order to destress. You hum in excitement when you're reading when you find a particularly thrilling passage. You-"
His human pressed two of her small and delicate fingers to his scarred lips, giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek "I can definitely tell you're my Vanya. I didn't know that space marines could shapeshift. Do you know who those marines were? I thought the one posing as you was a little off, but I thought that the fake you'd been sulking after an unsuccessful hunt."
"I do not sulk! Besides, when have I ever failed to provide for you?" Nadesir huffed, a small scowl appearing on his face.  He was not pouting, no matter what his bonded would claim otherwise. "As for the shapeshifters... Those were Alpha Legionnaires. Spies, thieves. Snakes in the grass who are capable of changing their colorings in order to try and trick others. I don't know why some would come here. This town is small. They like intrigue and causing havoc at a large scale."
"I see... I'm glad that you're home." His human murmured, hugging him tighter. "Stay with me?"
"Always." He promised, dark eyes warm as his grip on her tightened a little. They stayed curled around one another for the rest of the night, falling asleep on the astartes-sized couch.

Float
Author’s Note: This is the second part of mer-Nadesir’s fic! Previous. Next
Tagged: @egrets-not-regrets @kit-williams @bleedingichorhearts @the-pure-angel
Warnings: none
Summary: You meet up with The Night Lord you freed a little while ago.
You felt drawn back to the beach, since your encounter with the injured Night Lord. You'd done research on him after your initial encounter, and were quite surprised to read that Night Lords - at least according to the internet - were apparently viewed with deep and terrified suspicion from their allegedly violent and cruel nature. You wondered how accurate those accounts were - or if the people telling them had been taunting the mers in some way.
The Night Lord you'd encountered had been initially wary, but he'd been trapped and injured. He'd been flirty and grateful once you'd helped him get free, so not all of them were the nightmarish terrors of the deep that hysterical internet posts had ranted and raved about. Perhaps it was simply because the posters had approached the Night Lord in question incorrectly? Or maybe they'd been fucking around and found out that taunting the giant fish-man was a really bad idea, and went to whine about it online after managing to survive.
You'd not seen him again after that first encounter for over a month. Then again, from what you'd managed to gather, Night Lords seemed to prefer deeper waters and avoided most costal places unless they were having territorial disputes with different kinds of merfolk. No one could agree on how m any different kinds of merfolk there were, as they came in dozens of colors and patterns and species. You hoped that he was healing up well from the netting-wounds.
The moon was full and hung high in the sky, and the stars shone beautifully. You'd debated for a while with yourself - as a medical professional, you could easily find work wherever it was you wanted to live, and the urge to stay in one of the small coastal towns along the coast was almost too much for you to handle. The ocean was fairly calm tonight, with the occasional rippling wave that washed up the beach. You quickly found that your feet led you to the water's edge, your sandals quickly getting wet as the warm waters lapped at your feet.
It would be really, really dumb to go swimming out in the ocean at night. You could so easily vanish beneath the waves, never to be seen or heard from again...
But still, as you looked out over the calm ocean waters, the desire to take off your clothes and go swimming out into the sea was nearly overwhelming. With how dark the night was and the brilliance of the stars, you wondered briefly if it would feel like you were swimming among the stars.
As a child you'd wanted to know what it would be like to see those distant lights. To explore worlds beyond the Sol system. To explore the galaxy, but alas, the age of space exploration was not going to happen in your lifetime. Not for several generations at least.
You hardly notice where you are and what you're doing until a large, clawed hand lightly envelops one of your shoulders, a vaguely familiar voice calling out to you from behind and above you "It's not safe to go swimming at night, little mortal."
You blink and look up into the worried face of the handsome Night Lord you'd helped over a month ago. A small smile appears on your face as delight and relief flood through you. You reach up with one hand to touch his, lightly squeezing it "I... I know. But I really, really wanted to swim, for some reason. How are you? How have you been? Is it rude if I ask you what your name is?" You tell him your name, still beaming happily, genuinely delighted to see him again.
"I am doing well, and I have been teased by several of my older brothers for getting caught in one of the industrial nets, but I have also been learning how to better spot them and avoid them. I am Nadesir. We should head to the shore. Mortals like you do not swim very well, and there is an undertow in these waters that comes and goes unexpectedly." He responds, a small frown appearing on his face as he looks you over in concern.
"I... If you really think that's important. I'd rather stay out here for a little while, at least." You ask, pouting up at him a little, despite the fact that you know for a fact that he's right. You should go back up on the shore. But you really, really don't want to. A subtle itching that intensified and lowered at times that you'd managed to more or less ignore had finally, finally stopped. You were very unwilling to get back out of the water when that maddening itchiness had finally subsided. You were also admiring the way that the light of the moon highlighted his high cheekbones and made the endless inky pools that his eyes had turned into in the night were deep enough for you to happily drown in.
"I... If you are sure. I will stay close by, in case something happens." Nadesir decides, still watching you with concern. He fidgets a little, pulling out a silvery-white bloom from one of his armor's pockets. "I... I found this a week ago and thought of you. Would... This is yours, if you want it."
An awed smile appeared on your face as you carefully took the flower and tucked it behind one of your ears, not really having a good place to put it, as you realized that you'd taken off your clothes in order to go swimming... Not that you found that you minded being naked in the warm waters. "Thank you, this is beautiful."
"Almost as much as you are..." He murmurs, something akin to reverence in his eyes as he looks down at you, awe and something softer in his eyes.
"I... What? You... you're quite handsome, too." You respond, a warm blush appearing on your face as you lean into him, humming a little.
"Thank you." Nadesir rumbled, one arm gently wrapping around your waist as the two of you floated together in the ocean waters.

Sisterly Chat
Author’s note: A second fic for Nadesir! First. Next
Tagged: @egrets-not-regrets
Warnings: cursing
Summary: You have a chat with your younger sister.
"I'm sorry... You have a what living in your house?! Do you have any idea how dangerous they are?! Has living in that tiny fucking town in the middle of nowhere driven you insane?"  Your younger sister hissed, staring at you in alarm. The two of you were talking via Discord, and she was scowling at you, her arms crossed over her chest as she glared at you. You and your sister never got along very well - and the physical distance between her and you was nothing short of a relief from her nagging and nonsense... Even so, you did miss her from time to time, which lead to you scheduling a time to speak with her. And yes, considering how busy both you and your sister were, scheduling these video-calls was necessary, in order to not play phone-tag for the next three months between conflicting schedules and... Other things.
"A Night Lord. And yes, I've read some of the horror stories on the 'net about what Night Lords can be like. I am well aware of the fact that these Space Marines can be dangerous, but Vanya has been kind to me! Sweet even, in his own way. He kind of reminds me of a very large semi-feral cat. He comes and goes whenever he pleases... And often goes on hunts for days, if not weeks at a time. He always has a freshly prepared animal meat... Usually elk or deer, given that they're plentiful, but sometimes he comes home with several rabbits, quail or a turkey, depending on the time of year. He's been living with me for several years, and he's not the only space marine who lives in and around my hometown. There's a group of Salamanders and several Ultramarines as well. I think I saw a Dark Angel lurking near the edge of the Astartes base last week, but I didn't get a good look at him, and I was on lunch break." You respond, a small smile lifting your lips at the mention of your housemate.
Currently Vanya was out on another hunt - ever since that Imposter Vanya had shown up a month or so ago, he'd been patrolling around yours - and his - (did he feel that your home was also his? He was free to stay as long as he wanted. You were pretty sure that he knew that, but it was a bit difficult to figure out what was going on inside of his head, though he'd been a permanent fixture in your life for the past several years) home much more frequently. His hunts had been more frequent, but he wasn't gone for more than two or three days, rather than the weeks he could have been gone for, before. He also spent more time with his fellow Astartes - which you hoped was a good thing. Most of what you read on the internet about Night Lords said that they tended to be more solitary or stick to small groups, rather than the larger chapters that many other kinds of Astartes seemed to prefer. You'd also noticed that the rest of the space marines who lived in and near the small town you'd long since called your home had begun to patrol much more frequently and in greater numbers.
Not that any of them would say why they were doing this, though you suspected it had to do with the handful of teal interlopers who'd been chased off by Vanya and a handful of Salamanders... They also patrolled like this when there were reports of Feral Space Marine warbands traveling through the area - perhaps those teal marines had been a sneaky kind of feral space marine? But ferals tended to avoid humans and human settlements, except to try and acquire resources from them, if they didn't feel like making whatever they wanted themselves... Or they tried to kill the humans closest to the space marines who lived with humans for reasons that you didn't want to speculate on.
"-another thing! Do you really think that you're safe? Considering that they are so unpredictable and dangerous... If you need help moving out and getting away from him, I'd be happy to help you get out of there. You're a talented doctor, sis." Your younger sister huffed, having clearly been in mid-rant while you'd reflected on the strangeness of Vanya and the other space marines who lived around town. "You could get a good job wherever you wanted to live. I still don't get why you decided to work in a tiny-ass hospital in the middle of fuck-all Nowhere."
A low, frustrated growl left you "As I told you when I moved away from our parents' place eight years ago I have several reasons why I'm working here, rather than at some huge hospital in a big city; the first reason why I moved here was because the hospital I work at offered to pay half of my student loans down, in exchange I would work for them for five years. They also paid for the house I'm living in. The second reason is that while yes, the pay is a lot less than I could get elsewhere, rural towns and areas are vastly underserved medically speaking - among other services they are in desperate need of and justly deserve to get! The third reason is that I like being able to walk around without being hounded with questions about that all the fucking time!" You growl, glaring at your younger sister.
She flinched a little and shifted, looking away from the screen. Away from you. "... Yeah, okay. I get it. But there are like. So many podu-rural towns who need good doctors all over the world! Do you really want to live with a giant spooky murderous bastard for the rest of your life? Or at least for a really long time? I've heard that renegade types like him tend to chase off the partner or partners of the humans they've decided are theirs. What if you find someone you want to live with - a human person, and he doesn't like them? What'd you do then? And that's not getting into how weird they can get around children! I've heard that space marines can and often do steal children and refuse to let them go! And that there are stories on the internet of the partner or partners of a human with a space marine being replaced as a primary care giver and chased off by the space marine online! There's several websites dedicated to collecting these stories, so people know the dangers."
You blink a little in surprise, before raising an eyebrow at your younger sisters "Really? You're going to believe internet rumors and bullshit as truth? Even if some space marines do chase off a human they care for's spouse, that doesn't mean that all of them - nor all renegade space marines do that. Besides, I'm too busy with work and my hobbies to find a date, much less a partner. Besides, I trust Vanya. If he found something objectionable about my partner, I'd either try to find out a way to get the two of them to eventually get along with one another - he's... Pretty prickly and aloof, but he can be affectionate when the mood strikes. I've been able to talk him into using the communication board I bought for both of us to know roughly where the other is and how long one of us intends to be out. And the only children I'm ever likely to want - if I ever do decide to have children - will be adopted. You know the reasons why."
You remember the first time you'd pulled a double-double shift after Vanya had moved in with you. Several of your fellow staff members had been very surprised and startled to find the crabby night lord once again in the hospital, and he'd refused to let your sleep-deprived self go, having tucked you against his chest and purred aggressively until you fell asleep in his arms, the sneaky bastard. Allegedly he'd stared the head of the hospital down before stalking off back to your home. You know he'd brought you home as he'd tucked you into your bed, as you'd woken up in bed hours later, still tired from the extra-long shift and a grumpy Vanya hovering over you, and several dozen missed phone calls on your cell.
Your younger sister again shifts uncomfortably, looking down and away from her laptop, shoulders hunching "I... I know. It's just... We really don't have any idea where these big bastards come from... And more keep appearing what feels like every day. And I've heard stories that they've been affecting politics - both local and across the world! What if they're trying to take over the world? What if they've already succeeded and they just let us puny mortals believe that we have control over our own home world, and are secretly running things from the shadows?!  What if-"
"... Have. Have you been watching conspiracy theories on Youtube again? Or going down Reddit rabbit holes? You know that's a bad idea, right? How many other batshit conspiracy theories do you believe in now?" You demand, trying to suppress a groan of frustration. You knew that your younger sister could get drawn into this sort of bullshit when she went into a researching-binge, without someone to pull her out and remind her to touch grass and think critically about what she was reading and watching.
"I know that the common conspiracy theories bandied about online not pertaining to the space marines are bullshit, okay? It's just... Given what we've been through as kids, do you really think that some of the warning stories about astartes -" your younger sister started.
You cut her off before she could broach that subject "Don't! Just... Don't go there. You were much younger than me when... When everything went down. You've got a lot fewer memories of what happened then, than I do. No, I don't want to talk about it. The past is in the past, and there is where it will stay." You growl, shaking your head a little, as you fold your arms defensively over your chest and shake your head. You'd shielded your little sister from the worst of it, and she'd only been about six years old when you were able to escape that place with your little sister. "Please tell me you haven't been poking around about them, again? Because if you have, do you really want to be ripped from your life? Be dragged back into that bullshit? I know you don't remember much, but it was really bad."
"I... No, no. I still have nightmares about what I do remember. It's just... I wish you'd explain more about where we were, before mom and dad found and adopted us." Your younger sister responds with a whine in her voice.
"I don't know any more than you did! Just that... I knew that we needed to escape, before things got worse for us, like it did with the older girls. I think that place did get shut down after I talked to that social worker friend of our mom's... But those people might still be out there or some of them were. And they... They clearly had plans of some kind, though I couldn't begin to guess what." You huff, rubbing your eyes with the back of your palms. You hear large footsteps moving through the house, causing you to smile. Vanya could move silently, but chose to move in a way where you knew when he'd first come home, so as to not startle you.  "Want to meet Vanya? He just came home. I can hear him moving around."
"Nnnnope! You can keep your scary-ass space marine! Talk to you later!" Your little sister answered, shaking her head and ending the call.
You snort a little to yourself as you shut down and close your laptop before standing up with a yawn. Time to go see what Vanya had brought back from his hunt and be suitably impressed by whatever kill he'd gotten, you think with a small smile on your face.
