I am having "a day" realizing how great it actually is that we still do not have the way of checking and policing thoughts - despite some valiant attempts at trying to - because boy oh boy, there would be a crowd with pitchforks outside my bedroom window every night.
Still I decided to run off with the petty for a bit here. So I have a question for the occomunity, since we lately seem to have this rally for unity and positivity...
What is the difference between using a famous actor/actress as "face claim" and portraying your OC yourself? Is the second variant somehow too cringe? Aren't this the same thing essentially? Shoving imaginary people into well established fandoms works on the same principle weather we are doing it through fanfic or roleplaying. At least as far as I can see after trying both.
I am not talking to those few people who do interact with my content and leave me all those lovely notes and comments. You know who you are, I love you and I thank you.
Nevertheless my dashboard was recently bombarded with all these calls for positivity and inclusion, but from what I have observed, there seem to be a certain preference to the types of OC content. Gifs, mnips, aesthetics, fanfiction - those seem to be widely accepted and reblogged. However a commissioned art piece despite being properly tagged, seem to be widely ignored. Not to mention an even stranger way of making "OC content" I recently seem to have a penchant for.
So, #occommunity? Would you care to enlighten me?
I am not writing it to get more traction, not at all. I get what I get, and I am grateful for that. I am certainly finding my fulfillment in plenty of places other than tumblr. And I understand that everyone has all the right to vibe and interact with things they find interesting/pleasing to the eye/what have you.
But this is a "trend" I've been seeing for a while. Certain types of content seem to be more accepted than others. And I can't say it's because of it perceived quality... or lack thereof.
Which, in light of the recent, I admit admirable, drive to bring the community together, kinda grates on me, the humble observer.
