Hi Sophie!! I'm not sure if anyone has asked about this before or if it's a topic you're comfortable with but it's (weirdly enough) a new hyperfixation of mine.
Are you familiar with 'The Handmaid's Tale'?
I've recently noticed Aunt Lydia referring to June as two different people; June & Offred, though they're the same person. What's your opinion on that?
I'm not overly familiar with this. I've heard about the show but have never watched it. (Nor have I read the book it was based on.)
From what I understand, this probably isn't a plural thing.
The closest thing to plurality that pops out at me could be that the Aunts, who I understand are responsible for enslavement, are doing this as some sort of cult programming. Basically, they intentionally try to get the women to dissociate from who they used to be. Renaming them is part of that process, erasing their former identities.
But again, this is a guess based on the very little I've picked up about the story from a few Google searches.

I do like Bruce Miller’s main idea as writer: “Take a character, give them exactly what they want…and then see what happens.”
Serena Joy from The Handmaid’s Tale is a great example.
She was desperate to get pregnant with Fred and have a healthy child. She became a war criminal for this.
Sure, enough. Despite a low sperm count, Fred does get her pregnant. She has a healthy child.
But Serena’s life is still a disaster.
Because she was a war criminal to have the baby in the first place.
That’s why June is partly so mad when she finds out about the situation. Serena and Fred could have had kids, anyway. You didn’t need to put June through the rape ceremonies.

It, like, doesn't make any sense? But we'll get to that.
Today, I rant and rage about Margaret Atwood's "masterpiece" of "feminist literature". Get ready for nonsensical world building, kicked dogs, and women's apparent inability to do math.
Long story short, if you like Handmaid's Tale, you might want to skip this one.
