to talk about talii's little dropout era. her entire life she wanted so bad to make it into starfleet and attend the academy (and leave this stupid station). she was this very high achieving golden girl and everyone on the station really believed she could make it out which put a lotttt of pressure on her (in retrospect). so she's 17 and the renaissance disappears right. her only brother is dead (probably) but yayy ! she gets her commission to the academy. the only thing she's ever wanted in life. but her brothers dead and her mom has gone crazy thinking he's alive and the station is dead too and she brings all this anger with her to the academy. she does terribly in classes hates her teaches and classmates hates herself every passion she ever had for starfleet is gone. she made it off the station and into this incredible commission but she never really left. so first semester she flunks out comes back home and everyone is so excited to see her because this has been her lifelong dream! and shes like omg yeah its great!!! i flunked out. lol. so after this is when she switches out of command and starts working as a skipper.

also sidenote. she's been working as a skipper for 3-4 years by the time the series starts. so when hotshot cadet chyell struts onboard you'd expect her to be jealous and hate this entitled little bitch who's had a perfect life and is living her dream. but she doesn't. because they've had such different lives/upbringing she sees no similarity between them and they just kind of hang out and shit talk about the rest of the crew. One of her big struggles throughout the 5 seasons is that she sees herself as a sword and just a tool for fighting, which is pretty interesting since in the second season she fights someone who's sword is a philosophical weapon and can break any sword. Tsubasa overcomes this by basically "is this a sword? No these are wings carrying me to my dreams" which is cool as fuck. Also she's incredibly gay and a failgirl <333
