I'm caving, here's some VF HCs but pidge centric because he's my babygirl
Pidge and Larmina do get along but Larmina acts cold to him because he never could tell her why he had to leave so ubruptly after The Incident, she saw it as him pulling away and acting like every other adult in their life
Speaking of, Larmina and Pidge used to be glued together almost like siblings or the favorite cousin in the family, her ninja skills came from him
Pidge can't eat marshmallows, all Baltons can't. It's likely the high fructose corn syrup in it that ends up punching them in the gut and sends them into a bad drug trip
He has heterochromia! His glasses hide it most of the time but his eyes are normally brown, they're green because his eyes have a reflective backing to it which is what we see
got like 4-5 cats, Salami (the oldest), Oscar (the middle child), Miwa (the alien one), and Kevin (the kitten), and also green lion who he will die for before giving up his pilot seat
this man is not straight, I refuse to believe it, he is still interested in women though. Currently have him as Panromantic Demisexual
speaking of romance: I pair him with all the pilots gotta be honest, mainly shipped with Lance, Hunk, the new royal advisor, and the head of the castle guards
he does pole workouts, helps with core body strength and grip, he tries to keep himself balanced with exercise he thinks is fun
had a falling out with the original mice, ended up building the robot ones himself but he underestimated his abilities and now they're sentient :/
he's quite literally the teams trump card, with more years of combat experience than the team and his specialty in incapacitating enemies, theres a time and place though so he never goes all out
I have more but this is already getting long, don't be surprised if I upload more but centric on the others

Using this to help flesh out the character for my plot
VF Hunk HCs 💛✨
Pulling from the comics, he’s from a big family, literally, he’s the youngest out of about 5 siblings and also the smallest out of them all
Yes the team has met them and they all get along, his family loves Pidge the most since he’s the baby of the team
He’s got tons of tattoos, he has a sleeve on one arm and the other is just small ones
the sleeve was taken from this art so thank you @chibi-pix for letting me do so
the small ones are more Voltron themed, taking from the vld lion symbols and also just a lion tattoo because he deserves it
Also has many many piercings, he’s the reason why Larmina and Pidge got some because frankly they’re so rad
He’s got a burn scar on his eye to match yellow that also has a funky eye, he got it from protecting a kid from some flaming debris, he couldn’t block it all and it got on his face
This man is ALSO a genius because how the fuck does he land in an engineering position if he doesn’t know just as much as Pidge does
He acts like a meat head mainly because it was the mask that kept him safe while working for Wade, he has trouble taking it off when he’s back on Arus with the team
Usually the team eats what the kitchen staff make but sometimes Hunk steps in and makes a dinner for them instead, if he can grill he can cook normally
Cooking is also the way he gets the cadets to bond, he likes being the cool uncle but he also does want to teach them things
his carnivore tendencies means they cook a lot of meat based dishes
He helped give some personal touches to the uniforms, while the design itself is kept basic and uniform (aha) everyone wants their own touch of something
In his case he and pidge got short sleeves as they work in the hangar a lot, will probably add to this soon but in terms of uniforms that’s all I got
His anger issues didn’t fully go away to be honest, he learned to reign in it yes but it comes out when kids and mothers specifically are in danger
That’s because he really does care for kids and he remembers his own mother and if he doesn’t want his own to get hurt he won’t let anybody else’s get hurt either
He’s the only one with a normal ish family, he’s got two parents and siblings that are all alive and well
He does have some issues based on how his family treats each other but they mainly get along even if it isn’t entirely healthy
I swear I’m working on my rewrite, script writing is just hard 😫 I’m currently working in the first episode which is basically the same as the canon one with some changes to the Drule side of things so hopefully I’ll be able to post soon

Voltron: hitchhiking and cars
Tumblr media
Lance is hitchhiking his way down the road and hears a vehicle coming. He puts out his thumb intending to thumb a ride. But as he watches the vehicle approach (which was a hovercraft), it starts doing all kinds of swerving, skidding, spinning and other kinds of crazy stunts that would make you think he was losing control and was going to crash. At one point Lance thought the driver was really gonna flip over and crash!
But then the driver in the hovercraft comes to a screeching halt right next to him, takes off his googles and smiles at Lance.
“Need a ride? 🙂”
Lance stares frozen for a moment, eye twitching, then pulls his thumb back, turns and walks away.
“No thanks! I’ll catch the next ride!” 😰
The driver watches him walk off with a confused look then shrugs and drives off.
A while later Lance finally reaches his destination, which was the garrison.
He walks up to the instructor he was assigned to and salutes.
Lance: afternoon sir! I’m here.
Shiro: ah! Lance was it? Glad you made it. though you got here a little later then expected.
Lance: yeah, sorry. I walked here.
Shiro: you walked all the way here from the city?!
Lance: yep.
Shiro: you didn’t try catching a ride?
Lance: oh believe me, I DID! A guy even stopped for me.
shiro: then what happened?
Lance: I saw the way that crazy demon psycho driver was driving his hovercraft and decided I was safer walking! 😓
Shiro: there was someone driving recklessly on the way here to the garrison?
Lance: yep.
Shiro: in a hovercraft?
Lance: yep.
Shiro: what did he look like?
Lance: dark eyes, pale skin, stupid looking black mullet.
The gears in shiro’s head started to turn and he happened to glance at someone he knew walking towards them from the hangers.
Shiro: did he happen to be wearing a black shirt and jeans and a red jacket?
Lance: yeah! How’d you know?!
Shiro: call it a hunch. HAY KEITH!
Shiro greets the figure approaching them.
Keith: hay shiro!
Lance turns around, takes one look at Keith and shouts.
Lance: YOU! 😠
Keith: oh hay it’s you. So this was where you were going.
Lance: WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE YOU PSYCHO?!
Shiro: you two have met?
Keith: he’s the hitchhiker I told you about earlier.
Shiro: oh! So your the dumb idiot who turns down rides after thumbing for um!
Lance gapped offendedly. Then shiro turns to Keith.
Shiro: and your the crazy demon psycho driver lol XD
Keith cocks an eye brow then looks at lance.
Keith: what’s wrong with my driving?
Lance: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! The way you drive, I’d be safer riding a blind horse!
shiro covered his mouth to hide a snicker.
Shiro: lol anyway, once you two get settled in your dorms, you’ll be reporting to your first exercise drill. students will be partnered with one another. one of you will be driving the dune buggy while the other shoots targets.
Lance: sounds great! Just as long as I don’t have to deal with THIS guy’s psychotic driving.
Shiro: lol then you’re not gonna like what I’m gonna say next. You two are actually going to be partnered together.
They both have to cover their ears for what comes out of Lance’s mouth next.
Lance: WHAT?! ARE YOU FRICKIN KIDDING ME?! YOU CAN’T SERIOUSLY BE TELLING ME THAT YOUR GOING TO PAIR ME UP WITH THIS ROAD DEMON!
Keith: I’m not that bad jeez! Will you calm down!
Lance: I WILL NOT CALM DOWN! HOW THE HELL DID YOU EVEN GET YOUR LICENSE IN THE FIRST PLACE?! WAIT! DON’T TELL ME! You terrified your driving instructor so much that he promised to pass you if you just let him out of the car alive!
At this, shiro bursts out laughing. The image of a terrified instructor climbing out of the car quickly after Keith comes to a screeching halt was too funny an image. There’s no way he could keep a straight face.
And the ironic part was, he could totally see that happening.
Lance did beg and plead with the instructors to switch him with another partner but they didn’t budge on their decision and Lance was forced to resign himself to the fact that he was going to die young.
The next day, everyone reported to the dune buggy hanger.
Lance came prepared.
Keith looked over at the Cuban as he approached, dressed in padded gear. knee guards, arm guards, shin guards, shoulder pads, elbow pads, a cup (you never know), chest guard, a helmet. Lance went all out. He was not taking any chances with Keith.
Keith looked Lance up and down, then gave him an unamused look.
Keith: really? Are you serious?
Lance: AS A HEART ATTACK! Which is where I’m headed after getting into a vehicle with you!
Keith palmfaces and groans.
Keith: omg I’m not going to kill you! I swear to you that I have never once crashed ever.
Lance: YET! That can change very easily and I’m not taking the chance. I might as well say goodbye to my brown hair cause it’s gonna turn white after riding with you.
Keith scoffed and rolled his eyes as he climbs into their dune buggy. Lance follows reluctantly and they start their training exercise.
Fortunately, they make it through it without crashing, much to Lance’s relief.
Keith climbs out cringing as he clears his ear with a finger.
Keith: you know, maybe you were onto something with that being prepared nonsense. Cause next exercise, I’m bringing earplugs! DX<
—————————————————————————————-
Plot twist for all you klance fans. Keith was doing all those crazy stunts to try and impress Lance. His not very subtle way to flirt. But it backfired and now Lance is terrified of getting into the same vehicle as him lol XD
Keith: I was just trying to show off! I thought maybe I could impress him and pick up a date for the cadet ball!
Shiro pats him on the back.
Shiro: Keith, I’m gonna have to teach you how to properly flirt with people. My first advice for you: no daredevil stunts. You’re trying to woo him, not scare him.
Keith: and your second advice? Is it still possible for me to win him over?
Shiro: ….. candy and flowers?… and a promise not to drive you both to the ball?
————————————————————————
This idea was inspired by this video ->link<-
I was watching this video as the-vampire-lance and got this funny idea in my head about hitchhiking and thumbing a ride with this guy lol XD

starting off julance with a quick drabble for the prompt sunshine from @callmelyc's daily prompt list
When Allura had briefed them on Goltuna, the next planet they were stopping at for supplies, Lance had been thrilled.
New Galtuna was a hot planet. Not the exploding volcano or rising magma type of heat Lance was accustomed too on these alien planets, but the type of heat closer to what Lance was used to on a summers day in Cuba on Earth.
As it was just a supplies stop and the planet had a (relatively) human friendly climate, they'd forgone their paladin suits and their cooling capabilities in exchange for their normal clothes. Pidge had been complaining the whole landing about having to endure the sun without any way to cool down, with the rest of the team facing it with the grim anticipation gained from summers at the Garrison in New Mexico.
Lance though?
Lance couldn't wait.
There was just something about feeling that sweating through your clothes, panting for air, burning up completely kind of heat that he had missed. Maybe it sounded weird, but after months of a perfectly temperature controlled Castle and perfectly temperature controlled suits, Lance couldn't help but long for that feeling of sun on his skin that he associated with the boiling summers he loved so much on Earth. Whether it was spending summers playing with his siblings on Varadero beach or bitching about the heat with Hunk at the Garrison, Lance had too many good memories associated with this kind of burning sun to dread it like his fellow paladins had.
And that was why Lance was sprawled out in a field, enjoying the alien-but-pleasant feeling of Goltuna's pink grass as he sunbathed under the planet's warm sun.
Of course, his peace couldn't last for long. Never a break when you're a Paladin of Voltron. Mercifully, the interruption wasn't a Galran attack or civil war or one of the other emergencies Lance had half been expecting to ruin his sunbathing time. This interruption came in the shape of Keith's scowling face cruelly blocking Lance's sun as the older boy lent over him.
"Get up. We have things to do," Keith instructed.
Lance scrunched up his face in protest.
"Coooooooommmmmmmmmmeeeeeeee on Keith! It's just grabbing a few supplies, not attacking a Galra base. We can afford to relax for a second!" Lance whined.
Keith rolled his eyes at him, and Lance stuck his tongue out in return.
"You don't have to be such a stick in the mud all the time, yknow. It's a lovely day out! Lets enjoy the sun a bit, yeah?" Lance said.
"What's there to enjoy. It's way too hot out," Keith grumbled.
"Seriously? You lived in the desert for a year! I know that shack didn't have air conditioning! You should be used to this," Lance pointed out.
"Well I'm not," Keith snapped, "Now can you hurry up."
"Fine, fine, my bad," Lance said, "Help me up and we can go."
Lance stretched out a hand to Keith, who grabbed it and began to pull Lance up.
Oh, Keith, Lance thought, grinning mischievously, you should know better than that by now.
Lance pulled with all his might and Keith, who had not been expecting that much force, came tumbling down on top of him in an awkward heap.
"What the hell!" Keith yelled, cheeks turning red.
Lance didn't respond - he was too busy laughing at the look on Keith's face.
Keith rolled off of Lance, face drawn into a scowl that was made significantly less impressive by the blush still dusting his cheeks.
"You've gotta admit that was a pretty good one," Lance told him, still grinning.
Keith glared at him - but whether it was the proximity or the heat making him lazy, he didn't follow it up with an insult or a punch like he usually would. Instead he huffed and let his head fall back into the grass so that he was squinting up at the sky.
"I really like sunbathing," Lance told him, appropos of nothing.
Keith could recognize the beginning of one of Lance's rambles from a mile away, and usually never hesitated to cut him off. This time he stayed quiet, and Lance was grateful to him for it.
"Feeling the sun on my skin was always one of my favourite parts of summer, as cliche as it sounds. I always looked forward to it," Lance said, smiling wistfully
Keith didn't reply, but that was okay. Lance was more than used to doing the talking for the both of them.
"Plus, I always had to keep my gorgeous tan up," Lance grinned.
He couldn't keep the bravado up for long though - his brag sparked a memory of looking at himself in the mirror in his bathroom back at the Castle and noticing exactly how pale he'd become without access to regular sunlight.
"I think I'm the palest I've ever been, actually. It's been what - seven months in space now?"
"About, yeah," Keith murmered beside him.
"I guess I just missed the sun," Lance admitted.
Maybe it was the feeling of the sun on his skin after so long, or the soft grass beneath him, or even the strangeness of this fragile moment with Keith, but Lance was feeling uncharacteristically vulnerable. Instead of trying to follow up with some deflection like he usually would, he just let the admission sit there between them.
"Well," Keith said awkwardly, "I'm sure the team won't miss us too bad if we stay here for a few more minutes."
Lance lit up, his hand reaching out to land on Keith's shoulder in a silent thanks.
"Just a few more minutes," Lance repeated gratefully.
Lance closed his eyes and watched the sunspots dance on the back of his eyelids as the unforgiving Goltunan sun beat down on the two of them and for a moment, he was almost home.

Week 1: Sharpshooter, Part 1- The Birth of a Name
If anyone on this planet had looked up they'd think lance was a shooting star. Blue lighting up the night as she hurled down to the planets surface to crash-land like a meteor in the night
And now here lance was hiding in the desert rock formations watching galra swarm the wreckage. It's just his luck to not only be separated from the others but to also have fallen smack dab into the center of a galra invaded planet.
"Shit-" lance curses watching them poke and prod at his baby blue from a safe distance but he knew he wasn't in any shape to fight right now and he sure as hell didn't want to be a prisoner. He'd barely spotted them to begin with with his head injury and all making his vision spin.
Just when he thinks the soldiers might turn to come his direction lance feels a small hand touch his own. It takes everything in him to not full body flinch and risk blowing his cover so he holds his breath.
He glances down slowly.
And is surprised to come face to face with a small....gecko?...looking closer lance thinks they remind him a lot of the Geico mascot but large enough to be a small child. They're about three feet tall, pastel yet colored like an oil spil when the sunlight bounces off their scales. It's honestly pretty mesmerizing to look at he could admit, if only his head wasn't swimming and everything hurt-
Stop it lance ur getting off track!
"Uh...hello?" Lance whispers warily only earning a smile from the little creature.
"Hello! I am selkie!" They say brightly "please follow me"
"W-wait I don't even kno-" but his protest fall quiet as his hand is taken in a surprisingly strong grip and he's pulled through tunnels that exist through the cliff sides. Selkie stays quiet throughout their trek and though lance had the second thought to fight the alien off he felt it was safer to trust this geico mascot over the galra anyday.
So here he is in a tightly fitted cave following behind someone smaller than pidge noting that every change in lighting causes selkies skin to shift both in pattern and color. It's....very distracting and it's not until they come to a stop that lance realized he didn't watch their path here.
"You are safe here!" Selkie says proudly looking up at lance with the cutest smile drawing him out of his own head and back to attention.
He glances up to take survey of the location only to find them still inside the cave system it's just a dead end "where are we?"
"The caverns" a new voice announces causing lance to finally be more on edge yet turns to see another small gecko alien of the same height as selkie "it is the only place the galra cannot navigate. Their large stature causes them to get stuck in the tunnel systems."
Oh. Well that makes sense lance thinks "and you are...?"
"I am Lorix, I am the leader of the Gekkota people." Lorix squints at lance taking in his stature "are you of the crashed vessel?"
"Oh you mean Blue? Yeah a mission gone wrong I was separated from my team and crashed here" lance watches how Lorix reacts to this for a moment deeming him a little trustworthy "My name is Lance, I'm the Blue Paladin of Voltron"
Lorixs eyes widen just a fraction "Voltron is real?"
"Yep! And it's our job to help where we can so-" lance kneels down to be eye level with the two "why don't ya tell me a bit about your galra problem."
As it turns out the skin shift wasn't just for show nor their small stature. The Gekkota people are known to be able blend into their surroundings through color reflection off their scales. That paired with their ability to fit into small tight spaces meant they could be practically invisible intruders and the galra wanted them for forced spy work.
"When they overtook the planet most fled into these caverns to hide-" selkie added before turning somber "they have started to flush us out through poisons, we fear they may result to other means soon"
As he watched these two share their story lance had already known hed help them but looking at them now only solidified his resolve.
"Hey-" he says into the silence gaining both their attention "how far up do these tunnels go?"
~*~
Lance finds himself learning the cave tunnels over the next day and a half because if his plan was gonna work he needed all the pieces in place perfectly. As it turns out the tunnel systems go all the way to the top and deep into the ground below the base surface level. It reminded him a lot of how ant farms or burrow systems might look: tight passageways, circular dead ends, and hundreds of interconnected pathways.
The point is it's easy to get lost and he doesn't wanna die down here especially if he's aiming to help these people by fending off the galra as they come.
So he's memorized the paths he needs, he knows the positions he'll switch between like the back of his hand. The galra won't ever spot him and they'll be falling before they get the chance. It's more ruthless than he's used to being, but lance was alone here and he had an entire planet of innocent people to help. you can bet your ass he was gonna do it by any means necessary.
Lance sit here now waiting for his moment to act. There's specific times the galra will send out people to do the rounds in an attempt to capture more of the people here and with blue close by they might even be looking for him. Little do they know lance won't let them get that far.
He's crouching in his first position atop the left cliffside just out of sight, Bayard drawn and formed into a sniper rifle. When the first galra patrol comes into view he lets them get a little too close just to make sure they don't catch on too quickly.
A deep breath
In and out
Three shots fired in quick succession followed by three bodies hitting the ground. The bombs they'd had in their hands go off but this time no one in the caverns is fighting the poison.
Score 1 for Lance and 0 for the Galra.
This continues over the course of the next three days, galra appear each group growing larger than the previous and lance strikes them down one by one from altering positions so they never spot him.
He rotates the choices, ya know to spice things up a bit, really lay on the confusion and he knows he's winning because they've grown increasingly more frustrated.
The galra attacks grow more violent too, they've gone from smoke bowms filled with poison to flat out trying to crumble the caves themselves. Eventually they switch it up from simple small patrol groups to full on fleets of galra and sentry combined, both more heavily equipped.
So he switches his tactics too, lance doesn't let any get close if he can help it. He's shooting from further away now, further than he thought himself capable of hitting his mark, but with every shot fired he never fails to hit it like a bullseye. The moment he sees them in the distance, the moment he can tell it's an enemy and not an innocent bystander he lines his rifle and takes his shot.
His cover provided Selkie and Lorix with the time and safety to gather more of their people into the same tunnels as well as gather more needed provisions. It also allowed for Intel gathering.
"They have grown weary of you Paladin Lance" Lorix says one day during a down period "you have taken so much of their forces here they had to request for backup"
Lances alien sandwich falls from his hand "backup?"
"Yes! They seem to have contacted a secondary fleet in a neighboring galaxy-" he says between chews "we are a dead zone, the only life in this galaxy exist here so they did not think to send more aid until you arrived."
"Yes yes!" Selkie adds "there is much radio chatter about the missing blue paladin. They do not have the equipment to move your crashed vessel but with the backup they seem hopeful in gathering it"
Lance let's that information sinks in while continuing to eat his previously dropped sandwich-dont judge him!- before his mind zeros in on one part "did you say there was radio chatter about me?"
"That is correct, from various sources it seems" Lorix confirms with a nod "some galra some otherwise-"
Lance grips lorixs tiny shoulders "otherwise?? Did you happen to catch any names or descriptions? Do you know what they were saying?"
"Ah- well," he says seeming to think it over "there was a mention of a coalition? And a princess Allura looking for a blue paladin"
"Oh thank god-" he sighs "that's my team, if they can get a signal they can give us backup."
Selkie and Lorix exchange glances before frowning "how will we do that?"
Lance looks back at them pausing to think it over for a minute and smirks "actually....I have an idea"
~*~
It's nightfall when they choose to act, lance knows for a fact they've stationed a heavily armed set of guards around Blue and he also knows she has her particle varried up and loaded. So all he needs to do is get in just close enough to phase through it, run in, set off her emergency signal for his team and hightail it out of there.
First things first though, the guards.....
There's surprisingly only three sentries but for some reason this really sets lance on edge. Something doesn't feel right about this but he can't back out now. He takes his stance, sends a small hang signal to Lorix and Selkie who are on standby and runs out into the open guns ablaze.
It's the first sentry getting shot down that tells lance what's wrong. They were decoys, once shot they send off a visual signal while simultaneously blowing up, which lance found out the fun way.
Aka getting thrown back a few hundred feet and gaining yet another head injury.
Fighting to get back up he knows he has to work fast, that signal couldn't have been anything good, so lance runs. He runs as fast as he can dodging the best he can when the remaining sentries charge towards him because if he can just get to blue she'll let him in.
He feels her weak energy reach out to him and smiles.
He can do this.
Throwing himself into a clean slide he slips right under the final sentry and luckily right through blues partial barrier that flies back up the moment lance is safely inside.
"that's my girl!" Lance cheers climbing back into the safety of her hull.
"I know your hurt baby girl but don't worry-" he pats her side gently while sifting through things to get to the emergency panel "I'll get the team right on it"
Lance works the fastest he can through the dizziness, sets off the SOS signal and does a repeat of his initial fight only this time to leave. It's a narrow escape made possible only by the help of Selkie who manages to trip a sentry into another just long enough for them to get back into the underground.
They move quickly for a bit only deeming themselves safe once back to the center "what do we do now paladin?" Lorix ask worried "the beacon the sentry sent us worrisome-"
"I know" lance sighs "the only thing we can do now is wait. I'll take watch, hold em off as long as I can and hope my team catches the distress signal fast enough..."
Selkie puts a reassuring hand on his arm "you are not alone in this fight paladin lance, we can do what we are best at-" she smiles at him and it clicks "if you are a ghost to them, then so shall we be"
The battle that ensues is a tough one, lance positioned at the highest possible point sniping down enemy after enemy while the Gekkoas work from the ground camouflaging themselves so quickly it confuses the galra enough to be taken down by them. Together they make a deadly team, moving in silence and to the galra invisible the waves that hit them go down like rain.
By the time daylight has arrived on the final day, Voltron arrives and gives a helping hand. They're quick to pickup on lances strategy and in less than an hour they've finally freed the planet Euble and all it's people.
And with their victory lance can finally rest.
~*~
"Sir, we have a report" a large galran says to his commander.
The commander turns, his frown a permanent fixture yet he doesn't glance up from his small device "What is it Vox?"
"It's about Euble, the ghost won sir. They have been freed with the aid of Voltron."
The device in the commanders hand snaps in his crushing grip, the frown turning into a snarl "What?!"
Silence hangs heavy before the commander turns to hit his fist angrily on the nearest wall "we have to report this to the main fleet-"
A com system appears, a video transmission going through before a higher ranking officer picks up the call "what is it Commander Krox?"
"Euble has fallen, The Ghost Rite won"
An angry tsk can be heard through the screen "and who is this Ghost Rite that took down all your men?"
"The sniper of Voltron..... The Blue paladin"

Chapter 2: Hi
Summary: The team makes their way back to earth and gets picked up by the Garrison. Shiro sees Adam since he left for Kerberos. Tension runs high.
AO3!
Word Count: 2,799
Enjoy~
Shiro’s POV
“GUYS DO YOU SEE IT!!!!” Lance screamed on the video chat, a wide smile on his face.
“Oh my, that’s Earth?” Allura exclaimed, clasping her hands in front of her as she marveled at the planet in front of them.
“I didn’t expect it to be so…blue,” Coran added, twisting his mustache.
“Yeah, most of Earth is made up of water. And most of the water is salt water and we call them ocean…” Lance began to explain more about his home planet.
Shiro felt the smile fall off his face. His stomach plummeted the closer they got. Adam was there.
“You okay?” Keith asked, silencing the coms as he shifted his body to look at him.
Shiro gave him a forced smile and nodded. “Just…excited to get home.”
Keith gave him an unsure look. Turning back to look out of his lion.
---
It took them longer than they needed to reach Earth. The Galra has already placed its stamp on the world. Not fully consumed, but enough to squeeze most of the remaining earthlings into a couple of garrison bases.
Pidge jumped out of the vehicle, hugging her mother tightly. Lance was greeted by his family next. Shiro did his best to send Hunk a reassuring smile when his family didn’t make an appearance. He took a deep breath, preparing himself to introduce their Altean allies. His breath hitched when his eyes fell on Adam.
He didn’t look too different from the last time he saw him. Though, that was in passing as he made his way to the rocket. He stopped being able to spend time with him after they ended things. He fought back a frown. Heartbreak begging to swallow him whole.
His throat tightened as emotions began to rush to the surface. The urge to cry mixed with the desire to hug him and never let him go. He squeezed his hands into fists, forcing his feet to stay planted on the ground.
Adam wasn’t his anymore. He would never be his again. He was a fool to think he was actually over him. But being forced to fight for Galran's entertainment right back into leading Voltron made his mind a bit too distracted to think about Adam. And what they had. And what they lost. Along with how to move on.
“Welcome home,” Iverson sent them all with an unsure smile. He sent the Alteans a tentative look.
Shiro fell into autopilot, quickly introducing Allura, Romelle, and Coran. His eyes flicker between Iverson and Adam. Who still hadn't truly looked at him.
“Well, anyone who is willing to help in the fight against the…Galra is a friend of Earths.” Iverson gave a welcoming nod at the Alteans. Coran took over the conversation, twisting his mustache as he began to tell Iverson of the time of his youth.
Shiro didn’t hear him. His attention was still on Adam, who finally met his eyes. Briefly, but he did. He found his feet moving forward before he could stop them. Adam purposely looked at the vehicles who just brought them into the base. He stopped about two feet in front of him. “Adam,” his voice came out in a whisper.
The other man looked at him, a neutral expression on his face. “Commander Shirogane, happy to see you’re alive.” His voice didn’t match the smile that formed on his face.
Shiro gave a tense nod, ignoring how his stomach dropped at the name. The formality. He didn’t have to deal with it after the breakup. They didn’t speak, only quick glances. “Yeah…it was a hell of a time.”
“Well,” Adam pushed his glasses up on his face, “I look forward to reading about it in your published report.”
Shiro fought back a frown. There really isn't anything between them anymore. Not even a friendship. He took a wobbly breath, if any reconnection were to happen he would have to be the one to start it. “Adam, if you are willing I would like to-”
The other man turned his head, raising his voice to speak to some workers behind him. “Make sure these vehicles are charged and no damage is found. They need to be ready to go for the next supply mission.”
The workers nodded, making their way toward the vehicles. He turned his attention back to Shiro, “make sure Iverson shows you to your room.” He pivoted on one foot, doing a 180 as he turned to leave the area. A voice causing him to halt in place.
“You’re seriously going to walk away before I can even say hello?” The voice jogged at the older man, wrapping his arms tightly around him.
“Lance, this isn’t very professional,” Adam kept his hands to his side. A smile on his face as Lance squeezed him even tighter.
“Shut up. I just kicked ass in outer space. If I want to hug my favorite advisor I will.” The younger boy protested.
Adam laughed, the sound filled the air. Bringing a warmth Shiro hadn't felt in years. Along with a pang of jealousy at not being the reason for the sound. He always loved making Adam laugh. He wrapped his arm around the younger boy, chuckling at something else Lance mumbled to him.
“So…Lance knows Adam?” Keith cautiously asked, having moved closer to Shiro. His hand was placed on Kosmo’s head. His thumb moved in a small circle.
“I guess…” Shiro furrowed his brows, trying to remember if that name ever came up in conversation. It was possible Adam became his advisor after he left for Kerberos.
Keith placed his free hand on Shiro’s shoulder. Giving it a comforting squeeze. He knew this was going to be a hard adjustment.
---
“And this is where you will stay while you’re here.” Iverson led them to a blocked-off quarter. They would still be able to share a living room together and a kitchen. But each would have their own bedroom. Like the castle.
“Thank you, Iverson.” Shiro sent his former colleague a smile. Ignoring how Keith and Lance were already fighting over which room they wanted. He wishes they would just confess and kiss. End this childish rivalry that they hide behind.
“Come on Shiro, you’re not a cadet anymore. How many times do I have to tell you to call me Mitch.” Iverson smiled at him, patting his back in a friendly manner.
Shiro chuckled. “Just keep repeating it.”
“Tomorrow I think we should touch base and learn what you all know. For now rest. The fridge is full of food but the cafeteria is still open. Rest up,” he sent everyone and nodded and left the room. Lance immediately snickered as the door closed.
“His name is Mitch?!” He threw his head back in laughter. Hunk joined in soon after.
“Yeah…” Shiro made his way to the couch. Silently vowing to take whatever bedroom wasn’t claimed by the end of the night. He glanced at Lance and Pidge. Curious why they didn’t want to room with their family.
Maybe they too didn’t want to split up this family.
“How do you know Adam?” Keith crossed his arm, sinking back into the couch. His eyes trained on Lance.
“He was my advisor. For before and after acceptance.” Lance stated as if it was everyday knowledge. He squinted his eyes back at Keith. “How do you know Adam?”
Keith’s eyes flickered to Shiro for a moment and he shifted uncomfortably. Unsure of what to say. Coran broke the tension.
“I have to ask, who is this Adam? Just someone who works for the Garrison?”
“He’s a fighter pilot…and professor.” Shiro stared at the coffee table the couch circled. “He’s also my… ex-fiancé.”
The room fell into silence, Keith apparently being the only one who was aware of the fact. Pidge scrunched up her nose, “you were engaged?”
Hunk frowned, “ex…?”
Shiro sighed, sinking back into the couch. Briefly praying it would swallow him home. But this was his team. His family. “We met during our first semester at the Garrison. Both of us were in the fighter pilots course.” His eyes softened at the memory. The first time he had ever seen Adam.
Both of them were eighteen. The first class of the semester. Shiro had walked in a couple of minutes before the class officially started. His roommate was chatting excitedly about the upcoming semester. His senses froze as his eyes landed on him.
A skinnier boy was sitting at a desk, slouched back in his chair. His head tilted up at the ceiling, his eyes closed weakly. Shiro forgot how to breathe for a moment. His heart pounded in his chest. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from that nameless boy.
His roommate touched his arm. “Come on dude we have to sit down.”
Shiro nodded and followed his roommate to an empty seat. Forcing his eyes forward the entire time. Fighting the urge to look toward the kid who he now had a name for thanks to role call. Adam.
“We quickly became friends and then we found ourselves together. Then after we graduated,” he paused. Glancing down at his robotic arm. Silently deciding to keep his former illness a secret. “We got engaged.”
“What happened?” Allura asked. Her tone was cautious but supportive.
He released a tense breath through his nose. “I took the Kerberos mission.”
Nobody said anything. Their eyes cast down to the ground. “So you two ended things because you were going on a year-long mission?” Pidge raised their eyebrows questionably. Her voice was unconvincing.
“More or less,” Shiro found his foot tapping silently on the carpet. There was a lot more to the story.  A lot more.  But he couldn’t bring himself to open up right now. Couldn’t confine to the others as he needed to be.
The team shared a look, silently communicating to drop the subject. Hunk clasped his hand together, gaining everyone's attention. “How about I cook us some dinner?”
---
Shiro didn’t sleep that night. Every time he closed his eyes his mind repeated the earlier interaction with Adam. The coldness. Was he always that emotionless? No, he wasn’t. His Adam wasn’t.
What happened that made him this way? Was the breakup really that devastating for him? Shiro frowned as he stared into his coffee. His reflection looked back at him. Adam was upset when the engagement was called off. Rightfully so. He was upset with himself.
But Adam bounced back. Within a week he was back to his normal self. He had moved out of their shared space. Leaving nothing behind. He didn’t even call off work once. Did he even cry over it?
“Morning Shiro,” Keith reached for his own mug. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“Morning,” he brought the cup to his lips. He missed coffee. “Sleep okay?”
“Like a baby.” Keith stared at the liquid slowly filling his glass. “Better than sleeping in the lions.”
Shiro chuckled. Letting the silence move over them. For once they could sit. The Galra was still a threat but for once they didn’t need to move. They could just enjoy the now. The other slowly woke up. Each grabbed their own drink and migrated to the couch. Idly chatting filling the space.
“Anyone want to cook or we can go down to the cafeteria,” Lance asked, holding his cup of coffee closer to him.
Hunk stood, “I have something in mind.”
---
Everyone stood as they entered the room. The voices dying quickly. Iverson cleared his throat. “Welcome, thank you for joining us. Please, have a seat.” He gestured to the eight empty seats on one side of the table.
Shiro let his team pick first, quickly realizing that left the last seat next to Adam. He must have realized the predicament at the same time since his body stiffened and he gripped his folder tighter in his hands.
He swallowed down his own emotions and moved to sit down. Sending his ex a weak smile as he sat down.
Adam shifted his eyes away, looking at the blank screen in the front of the room. Iverson cleared his throat, drawing attention from everyone in the room. “Let’s start with what we know.” He clicked the screen on. “The Galra have been on Earth for only a month. In that time,” he clicked to the next screen, “They have pushed the remaining population into seven locations. All Garrison bases.”
Another slide. “Thanks to Sam Holt we were able to prepare before the Galran reached Earth.” He went on to explain how the Galran attacked and how quickly Earth fell. Things they have tried, things that have worked and failed. The projects they were finishing up; such as the Atlas. Iverson sat down, ending his section of the presentation.
“If you all would like to tell us more about this ‘Voltron’ and what the battle has been like in outer space. That information would be beneficial.” Admiral Sanda spoke, leaning forward. Her elbows pressed on the table. Her chin rested in his hands.
Allura spoke first. Explain who Alteans were. What Altea was and the history of the Galra. She spoke with grace and confidence. Her voice was unwavering as she retold her history. Romelle and Coran pipped in when needed. And eventually, the attention was shifted to the paladins.
They didn’t have too much to add after what Allura said. They mainly explained what the lions were and how they could help. Shiro tapped his finger ideally on the table. Letting his mind wander. A voice pulling him from his thoughts. “Shiro, is that something you are comfortable talking about?”
He cleared his throat, adjusting awkwardly in his seat. “Sorry. Could you repeat that?”
The admiral gave him a professional smile. “I was asking if you were okay discussing your first return from Earth. Before the Blue Lions discovery.”
“Oh,” he stared at his missing arm. “After we were all taken by the Galra. Sam, Matt, and I. I had to fight in this…gladiator ring. I was known as the ‘Champion’ there. But after a year I had memorized the soldiers' patterns. How often they passed my cell. And over my year stay, I had located the flight hanger. I just…made myself escape. And I landed on Earth.” He refused to meet anyone else. Staring at the smooth table.
Hushed whispers filled the room, and he swore he felt Adam stiffen beside him. But he didn’t want pity. What was done was done. He wasn’t going to relax until the Galra were defeated and taken care of.
The meeting ended soon after. Most of the Garrison officials stayed around to mingle. Pidge and Hunk mentioned going down to look at the Atlas. Keith was dragging Lance to train. Allura, Romelle, and Coran were being shown around the base by Iverson and Veronica; Lance’s sister.
Adam quickly stood, briskly making his way out of the room. His fingers crumpled the papers he was holding.
Shiro found himself standing, the chair nearly falling backward at the motion. His feet moved before his mind realized what he was doing. He stepped into the hallway, “Adam!”
The man froze for a second, keeping his back to Shiro. The passersby in the hallways all looked at Shiro. He ignored them, his legs moving toward Adam. “I just…was wondering if we could talk.” He stopped, about an arm's length away from him.
Adam didn’t make any attempt to turn around, his back remained stiff, his head looking forward. His shoulders rose and fell slowly. Something he did when he was trying not to show how he was feeling.  “About what?”
Shiro blinked, his heart swelling at the response. At least he was speaking to him. “Anything. You can tell me everything you’ve done in the time I’ve been away. We can just catch up.” He cleared his throat, swallowing down the desire to reach forward and embrace him again.
Adam didn’t move for a couple of seconds before he eventually spoke. “I have work to do.” He stepped forward, disappearing around the closet corner.
Shiro wasn’t sure how long he stayed in that spot. Silently kicking himself for how things went. How they crumpled around him. Irreversible damage. Someone placed their hand on his shoulder. He glanced at the owner of it. “Hey Shiro, remember me?”
He smiled at his former roommate. “How could I forget?”
His friend chuckled. “Want to get some coffee? Catch up?”
He nodded. “Yeah…” His eyes lingered on where Adam went. “As long as we talk about anything other than the Galra.”
His friend smiled at him. “Whatever you need buddy.” He squeezed his hand on Shiro’s shoulders. “It’s good to have you back.”
Shiro gave a tense nod, “it’s good to be back.”

Excerpt from my new fic because I'm impatient :)))))
Then
It was a hot, humid night. The kind that leaves you persistently damp and, at least for most people, miserable. Not Lance. He was relishing in it, because it was the kind of weather that could only be found in one place in the universe: home. He was home. Had been, for almost a year now. The war was over. The empire had been defeated and was being systematically dismantled by the coalition. Voltron was no more. Lance was, for all intents and purposes, retired. It was over. Or, that’s what everyone kept telling him.
It didn’t feel like it, most of the time. Not when he could still feel the phantom weight of his bayard at his hip. Not when he woke up from nightmares, night after night, and thought he was still back in space, still fighting the Galra. Not when he looked in the mirror when he got up every morning and saw the haggard, tired man staring back at him, took in the blindingly blue marks under his eyes and the long, ugly scar that tore its way up his cheek, and remembered. Oh, he remembered. He tried to avoid mirrors when he could, these days. He hated not recognizing his own reflection.
Not that Lance could tell anyone all this. Who was there to tell? Not his family, who still looked at him like a magician halfway through a disappearing act. Not his team, who had scattered to the winds as soon as they determined that Earth would be okay. They tried to stay in touch for a few months. Slowly, the calls became shorter and more scattered. Slowly, Lance stopped picking up. Slowly, they stopped calling altogether. They were all doing things with their lives. Things greater than tilling soil at their family’s farm because no one else knew what to do with them. Things greater than laying in bed all day, staring at the wall, letting the time pass around them like a riptide they were caught in, unable to move, to think, to breath. Drowning on land, in their mind. Yeah, no one else had that problem. And he sure as hell wasn’t going to clue the team in on how much he was struggling. They were fine. Why couldn’t Lance be? So he forced himself out of bed. He worked the farm. He spent time with his family, tried to ignore how close they were to strangers, now. So much time had passed. Three years for him, six for them. Lance had a niece who was in kindergarten that he’d never met. She’d heard stories about her Tio Lance and had thought he was a ghost when he first walked through the door. She’d cried and cried.
On nights that Lance couldn’t sleep, which was most of them, he slipped out of his bedroom window and made his way to the beach. He probably could’ve gotten away with using the front door, but he didn’t want to run the risk of waking the rest of the house up. Plus, there was a certain comforting nostalgia to to action. He’d done it many times in high school. It wasn’t tourist season, yet, and anyway most everyone’s vacation plans had been derailed by the invasion of Earth, so he usually had the beach to himself. It was just Lance, the sand, the sea, and the stars.
On calm nights, like this, the moon reflected across the water. Lance felt his chest expand, and it was easier to breath. Since coming back, the stars were no longer felt distant and unattainable. They felt more like home than Earth did. Up there, Lance knew who he was. He knew what he was. A Paladin. He wasn’t that, anymore. He didn’t know anything anymore.
Lance laid down, knowing he’d find sand all over when he left. It was a good, ordinary problem to have. He relished in it. The moon was waning. He took his time finding the constellations, counting them off like you might count sheep. Libra, Ursa Minor, Ophiuchus. One thing that every civilization he’d encountered had in common; the stories they gave to the meaningless shapes in their skies. Everyone had some sort of higher power they believed in. Most had many. Lance wondered if someone, somewhere had gotten it right. He wondered if it mattered. He didn’t pray anymore.
The closest he ever came was this.
“Hey, ‘Lura.” Lance murmured. Even though he was alone, he felt embarrassed to be basically talking to himself. He paused, waiting for some indication that someone might have heard. When there was nothing, he let out a shaky breath. “Hot night. It was a long week. Jamie’s got the flu and my mom’s been tired so I helped to take care of her. Hope I don’t get sick, too. That would suck. Elio graduated first grade this week. The ceremony was super cute, he got all dressed up and they sang a little song. It was like, ABC you later, EFGee I’m gonna miss ya…heh, it was cute.” he cleared his throat. “Um, anyway, that’s…that’s pretty much it. Nothing much going on down here. Nothing much ever really going on.” he swallowed, hard, around the lump in his throat, and didn’t say anymore. The stars were extra bright today. They blurred as he failed to wipe his eyes quick enough.
Stupid. Lance didn’t even know why he did this to himself.
He was about to give up and head back when he heard a small noise behind him. It wasn’t a sound most people would’ve picked up on but Lance, who had spent three years in space becoming especially tuned to noises and changes in his environment that warned of imminent danger and death, was not most people. He was on his feet in the breath of a second, adrenaline flooding through his veins.
It took him another second to recognize the figure standing before him, and still longer to truly accept it.
“What’re you doing here?” he asked, his voice stiff with surprise and embarrassment.
The other man stepped forward. It seemed impossible that it had only been six months. Keith’s hair was longer, tied back in a bun. Gone was his cropped jacket, in its place a regular-length coat made of a dark green leather. Instead of the black bayard, he had his Marmoran blade strapped to his belt. He looked different, and yet achingly familiar. Lance wasn’t sure what to do with it. He thought that this was how Scrooge must’ve felt to see Marley, to see an apparition from his past, once friend, now unknown.
Yet Keith smiled, crooked and soft, and Lance felt himself relax despite himself. “Hey, Lance. Your mom said you might be out here.”
“My mom?” Lance croaked. Guess he wasn’t as good at sneaking out as he thought. “Um, well, hi, I guess. What’re you doing here?” he asked again, because it beared repeating.
“I’m here to see you.” Keith said, like it was the easiest thing in the world. Like it was so obvious. Six months of no contact, not a single video or call or text or friggin’ carrier pigeon. Just, I’m here to see you, like he was dropping in for coffee on any Sunday, not crashing his way into Lance’s life at eleven thirty at night on a random Tuesday.
“Why?” Lance pressed, too flummoxed to even be angry.
“I need your help. On a mission.” he held up his hands placatingly as protests began to fall from Lance’s lips. “I know, I know you said that you were done, but it’s really just a small one. It’s only a galaxy over, and it’s all diplomatic. I’ll have you back before the end of the week.”
Lance crossed his arms. “If it’s so small, why do you need me?”
“Everyone else is busy. And you know I’m crap at the diplomatic stuff. This is a really important planet for the coalition. They’ve been through a lot, so our presence will do a lot of good.” Keith said, shifting uncomfortably. “Please.”
“I’m not going to leave my family because everyone else is busy,” Lance snapped. “I’ve missed too much already. I’ve already saved the world, a couple times over.”
Keith ducked his head and took a deep breath. “Lance. I want…I need you. Not anyone else. You are the best person for this job. It’ll be quick, you won’t miss anything. I promise.”
Lance scoffed. “You can’t promise anything, Keith. You can’t be sure.”
Keith met his gaze, his eyes gentle but determined. “I do. I promise.”
And dammit. Dammit all to hell, Lance trusted him.
Lance looked back to the house, to the warm, inviting light of the porch, his mom’s silhouette in the kitchen window, no doubt waiting for them to come in. Spica winked at him from over head. And Keith stood before him, waiting patiently, and Lance hated how he already look so sure of the answer.
“Whatever, samurai. But if I miss my grandmother’s tostones this Sunday, I’m shaving off that abomination you call a haircut.”

Chibi watches V3D 14
Whoo! Another night of Voltron: The Third Dimension! And, I'mma be honest, I was actually excited to watch it tonight. Not for any episode in particular since I didn't know what was going on, but I'm actually enjoying this show. Anyway, without further ado, here we go!
Watching this episode and seeing the newscaster covering the media, it’s oddly amusing. And is giving it a slight feel of actually watching a news report to some degree. Well done, creators.
I love the recap and hearing Lance call that one guy a “glorified calculator” again. It makes me grin.
Okay. What’s his name? Amalgamus? Whatever. That calculator referring to himself and his reasoning as “superior” is grinding my gears. The urge to shout insults and say “Your mom was a toaster and your dad was a computer mouse!” is strong. Like, dude? Just because you’re integrated doesn’t mean you’re superior. Regardless of that tampered chip Zarkon put in you. Machines aren’t perfect. Not in the 90s, not in the early 2000s, not even now.
You know, this trial and recapping things that have happened in the past thirteen episodes, it is intriguing and fun. And feels like a more fun take of “Previously on such and such show” that we seem to get a lot in other shows. It’s interesting and fun.
Amalgamus denying being incorrect. Of course he would. And kudos to Coran to calling him out on things and correcting him on Voltron not giving up so easily.
Also. Um. Is it just me or is it weird that they have footage of situations that logically wouldn’t have footage? It’s like some behind the scenes guys just follow everyone with a camera and no one pays them any mind. Hmm.
Hah! Amalgamus not wanting to really admit it himself that the Voltron force saved his metallic ass. Dude, you ain’t so perfect, huh? Rescued by the very people you shun. And I love Coran making good points. Though watching the broadcast and Coran’s logic and facts, the guilty bar still going up. The system is flawed. That bar SHOULD NOT GO UP! You know. Seeing this recap and Amalgamus blaming his capture on Hunk being compromised. Really, when one thinks about it, they actually didn’t need to even compromise Hunk to pull that off. Haggar could literally conjure up fakes to send at any given moment to easily deceive that calculator. “You don’t like humans very much, do you, Amalgamus?” Yeah! You tell him, Coran! “That is incorrect. Some of my… best friends are humans.” First off, that’s the common argument heard from people accused of bigotry and racism. Second, there was definitely some hesitation there. Ooh ho ho! I love Coran calling Amalgamus as anti-human. And ready to prove it. And that calculator lacks a compelling argument and resorts to “I am not anti-human”. You know. This actually feels super relatable to how things are with people these days. And. It’s a bit appreciative.
Oh shit! Coran MVP! Pointing out that yeah, while the Voltron force did disobey orders… a lot. They don’t serve Amalgamus and the alliance alone. Hell yeah! Bro! They support and defend the universe and its forces! And the forces give no orders! I am appreciating this. I didn’t like Coran much in DotU, but he’s got the team’s backs in this show and I appreciate it. Go Coran!
Screw Amalgamus calling Coran’s comments a fairy tale.
Hey! That little magistrate again! Hey! Chill little dude! It’s nice seeing him again. And I love him and his system fully for the Voltron force! Perfect! Thank you, little dude, for coming through!
Newscaster with, “He is this galaxy’s only real defense. Why would anyone wanna throw that away?” That just made me grin. I love it.
Okay, I'll be honest. While it also felt like just a recap episode, it also felt like more. And I enjoyed it. In all, I'm actually enjoying the series a bit. But seeing Amalgamus being against the Voltron Force and Coran calling him out on his, for lack of a better term, narrowmindedness and bigotry? It's enjoyable and feels relatable to real life. I love it.
Anyway, that's it for the night. Until next time.

Okay, more Voltron AU thoughts:
Emilie, Nora, and Jalil are the ones to go to Kerberos and get abducted at the start
Nora tags along to the Blue Lion after they rescue her because this is her little sister and her friends, ain't no way she's letting them all go to see something alien without her. Also they need adult supervision. Nora also gets annoyed that a group of 5 teenagers that includes Alya are forced to be the most important part of a 10,000 year old war but she can't do anything about it because it's destiny or whatever
Oh hell yeah

Idea where the Voltron Paladins start to develop elemental powers from their Lions. Except...not the most obvious ones.
Shiro can teleport. Well. That’s the most visible aspect of his power. What he actually does is warp the fabric of space-time because of course he does that. You know how Shiro basically fights like gravity is optional? Yeah, that just got 100x worse. Shiro essentially floats and drops and moves however he needs, and now he affects space-time for everyone else, too. You can tell when Shiro’s gotten really pissed because there’s this immense pressure and everything is suddenly heavy. Or in a combat, his enemies who were grounded are now bouncing and floating. And if you think “space”= “no gravity”, you’re forgetting this is the star pilot of the Garrison who certainly knows about orbitals and gravitational assists. He doesn’t need any alien robot-lion bond to calculate multi-body trajectories instantaneously in his head even with changing gravitational fields. Teleportation might be flashy and all, but every member of team Voltron knows that’s the least dangerous thing he can do.
Lance is an empath. At first, he’s disappointed he didn’t get anything cool and flashy like Shiro. Actually, at first, Lance didn’t think he got a power at all. This is just a normal part of forming Voltron, right? Right?? Why is no one else so exhausted from all the feelings? Guess I’m just weak... Lance actually has a near breakdown before the rest of the team clocks it and realizes he’s constantly swimming in everyone’s feelings and yeah, no. No one can handle all that. Allura steps him to teach him how to build boundaries, and still, he has to spend a few days avoiding Keith and Shiro (”What the hell, you two?! Do you guys feel ANYTHING that’s not twenty shades of repressed trauma???”). But with time, Lance learns to control and use his power to help the team. His connection is strongest with the other paladins, and he mostly uses his power to look after them and help them out during the down times. Lance has learned the importance of being a support and takes pride in healing his team when they’re down so they’re ready to kick ass in battle. But he also shines on diplomatic missions. His ability to ping what other people are feeling not only helps him smooth over offenses or fears, but he can pick up on inconsistencies and unseen red flags. Not to mention, Lance can nudge other’s emotions. Normally just slightly, but it’s enough to swing things in their favor. Lance might not be flashy, but that doesn’t make him less powerful. And anyone on the other side of the negotiating table quickly learns that.
Keith has precognition. Think Jedi see-things-just-before-they-happen Force shenanigans. His instincts aren’t just on point--he’s often reacting to things just before they happen. Naturally, this makes him almost impossible to face in combat. Incidentally, this is also part of why Keith is so bad at communicating: he’s often thinking in multiple points of time at once and condensing that down to one point to talk about is just...it doesn’t work like that. But slowly, as Keith learns how to work in a team and, if he can’t quite communicate with words, to let the others in so they sense what he’s sensing, Keith’s precognition stops throwing him out of sync with everyone else and pretty soon Voltron has the same too-fast reflexes as Keith. The others have gotten used to the flashes of Keith-thoughts zipping through the Lion bonds and letting him move them when they do. Now not only are the Lions practically indestructible, but Voltron is nearly impossible to land a hit on in the first place.
At first Pidge is annoyed about the paladins powers because--Green Lion? Of course she’s going to get plants. And Olkarion might have helped her appreciate the natural world more, but she still thinks plant powers are lame. She’s not Poison Ivy. Give her computers and climate control any day. But then she starts talking to Green as she’s coding, and at first she just figures she’s a genius (which she is, thank you very much) but her programs are like nothing she or anyone else has seen before. Especially the viruses she writes for Galra tech. They grow. She can plant a “seed” on one part of system and later she’ll find that code sinking its roots into an entirely different part of the enemy ship. It creeps like vines, breaking through any firewall, tangling up any kind of security, alive in a way even the best AI isn’t. Pidge doesn’t even really need an access point anymore, just let her loose near some tech and like an invasive species, soon she’s overrun it all. Pidge’s code is like vines, like ivy or tangle weed, and once it’s in there, you can try to root it out. But you won’t succeed. Pidge likes this kind of plant.
And finally Hunk can kind of just...bend reality. Normally it’s little things, like cables that shouldn’t work suddenly don’t need an adaptor, the rust jamming certain gears is magically clean, that fuel cell that’s been on empty for the last three varga is still going strong. Of all the paladins, Hunk appreciates that difference little things can make (for good or for really, really bad. You won’t think changing the rotation rate of that star by half a second would make a difference, but turns out that changes the magnetic fields which create solar flares which...). Hunk’s happy making small, manageable adjustments to reality that he can predict the full consequences of. Mostly. But there’s still definitely been a time that someone’s held a gun to one of his teammate only to find--the gun isn’t there anymore? It never was? There wasn’t even a gun in existence in the first place? And occasionally someone will realize that aren’t really limits to what Hunk can change besides those Hunk sets himself. Those people start to back away very slowly as Hunk talks to himself about whether or not he should turn this rock into space chocolate That’s a pretty big molecular change, not telling what side effects with come with that. But if he took something that was already food, now there’s an idea... Hunk doesn’t use his power in combat that much. Or, at least, not in ways people notice (but isn’t it convenient that with Hunk around, armor lasts longer, equipment runs better, no one’s amo ever runs out...)
All these abilities would be chaos to work with, except that the paladins have grown to develop a low-level mind-meld like they have in the Lions. Normally it’s white noise far in the background, but it can flare up when needed and nothing is quite as disconcerting as when Keith pings something and all of them turn as one to look a second before something happens. Sometimes people swear that even when the paladins are outside of their Lions, doing separate things, they still move unnervingly like part of one unit. And in the Lions--
Gone are the days of inexperienced pilots attempting to survive. Pidge is turning your tech against you. Keith is predicting your every move. Shiro and Hunk are wrecking havoc on reality and all known laws of physics. This in addition to all the bells and whistles and impossible weapons they’ve unlocked in Voltron. And while you’re panicking, trying to figure out how the hell you’re supposed to fight this thing, Lance is there cranking your dread to eleven. Suddenly, it’s no longer surprising that Voltron is the most powerful weapon in the universe.
“Don’t they ever scare you?” ask some planetary leaders after witnessing the might of Voltron. Sure, the paladins are supposed to be the good guys, but... “What if they stop listening to you?”
“Oh, I’m not worried,” says Allura, the woman who has the power to heal and destroy planets in her fingertips. She smiles like her teeth haven’t turned sharp and blinding white in the last minute.
“I am their Princess.”

Oh look at the date! Klance ficlet for @diablosart they know why lol 😏
“What the hell we’re you thinking?!” Keith snapped as he popped his helmet off and chucked it hard at the ground. “Thanks to you were now trapped in a cave in!”
“Look, I’m sorry! I got distracted!” Lance snapped back.
“By what?! We were supposed to be scanning for the jababian dagger. What were you doing, watching your smut videos again?!”
Lance pulled off his helmet with a scoff. “First off, I don’t watch smut videos. Second, even if I did, that’s none of your business. And third, no, I was scanning, just wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.”
Keith rolled his eyes and spat back with a sarcastic riff. “Well that explains why you knocked both our cats out of the damn air crashing us into this place!”
Using a flashlight, Keith scanned the inside of the cave and noticed a lot of fractures spanning the walls. According to the computer in his Lion, the cave was full of an unstable and weak type of volcanic rock. ‘No wonder it caved in so easily…’ He groaned again. “Just great, if we try to blast our way out, it might collapse the ceiling on us.” Keith walked over to his helmet and picked it up. “I’ll need to do a thorough analysis before attempting to break free. The computers on the ship could do a better job scanning this cave, but they won’t arrive until morning.”
“Are you serious?! We’re stuck in here?!”
“At least for the night, so, stop your bitching since you’re the one who got us into this mess! Why don’t you start a fire while I get to work with the computer.”
“Fine,” Lance stomped away muttering to himself. He was just happy Keith was too irritated and didn’t press him further on what he’d been distracted about.
The pair had been sent ahead of the rest of the Voltron group to look for some kind of special dagger. Lance couldn’t remember what was so important about it, just that it possessed magical properties and they didn’t want it falling into the enemy’s hands. A distress signal was sent out to their ship, so now they just needed to settle in and stay warm until help arrived. He managed to find a cache of old animal bones deeper in the cave to use as fuel for the fire, coupled with some dried leaves and tetrodontyl feathers that must have blown in over the years for kindling. Whether it would last the night was yet to be seen, but it was all he had to work with. Their Lions only held so much in terms of supplies because they weren’t meant to hold long term reserves. But luckily there were emergency blankets and some instant rations they could eat.
Lance never realized just how cold and uninviting a cave could truly be until he became stuck in one. It was creepy with the sounds of bugs scurrying in the darkness, water drops echoing through the silent air, and occasional cracking sounds from any temperature fluctuations. He hated the quiet emptiness because it left open room for his mind to wander and more thoughts to break through as he stared into the flames of their campfire. Lance frowned and brows furrowed, remembering the distraction that led to this debacle. Of course, this was the opposite of what he would have wanted! Their lions sustained damage, and to be stuck, alone, with the reason for his distracted mind was causing his stomach to turn inside out.
Maybe Lance should have pushed Keith harder to drag Pidge or Hunk or Allura along on this trip and not him, anyone but him. He didn’t want to come. Didn’t want to be alone with the man. Hasn’t, for a while now ever since he’d developed different feelings for the guy. ‘How ironic,’ Lance groaned in his head. To go from professional jealousy to romantic pining, he was such a fool. Could anyone blame him? Keith was handsome and smart, but not surprisingly it took someone who could be as hot-headed as himself to catch his eye. Or maybe it was surprising if Lance really thought about it. Girls easily caught his attention, but with Keith it was an attraction that grew through close working confines and of admiration. In essence, he fell for the character of the man and not just for his looks.
“Oi?” Keith snapped his fingers to get Lance’s attention. “The eta is now 8 hours till Shiro and the rest get here.”
“Huh? Oh, yeah, okay.” Lance responded in a rather distracted tone that mirrored the monotonous looping thoughts in his head. He felt horrible about causing this disaster in the mission while at the same time kept thinking about Keith…
“That’s all you can say?” Keith questioned his teammate. “Okay?” But when he received no response, he pushed the man’s shoulder hard. “What is going on with you lately Lance? You’ve been distracted a lot and it’s starting to affect your performance.”
“Am I not allowed to have a bad day?” Lance retorted. “Everyone has their bad days, man, it’s not always a crisis.”
Keith sighed. His anger had dissipated but that didn’t mean he wasn’t still annoyed. He thought they were close enough friends that would turn to each other if something was wrong, but apparently he was mistaken. “It’s my job as the leader to worry, so cut the bullshit Lance. I know enough to know something is really bothering you. If you don’t wanna talk about it, fine, but you need to figure it out cause this,” he gestured to their damaged lions, “can’t keep happening.”
“I know, I know,” Lance dropped his head with a long exhale. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to screw up. It’s just— there’s something eating me up and I have no idea what to about it.”
A silence took hold as the two men sat there illuminated by the fire’s light. Keith didn’t want to keep pushing, but he could see the angst on Lances face and it bothered him. In all the years they’ve known each other, there was only one other time he’d ever seen the man so… sad? But it couldn’t be for the same reason, because if Lance had met a new girl he was interested in, Keith was certain he would have heard about it immediately. Lance wasn’t exactly shy about the subject unlike himself. So, what could it be? Keith stared at the fire as he pondered what to say next, but nothing really felt right to say to his friend. This wasn’t exactly a topic he was skilled in with his own little buried secret. For the next couple of hours, they stayed that way, shifting only to stoke the fire or eat some of the rations they had available. It would probably be a great idea to get some rest, but neither made a move to do so. Just… kept staring in awkward silence at a dying fire.
The temperature change in the cavern was slower than it would have been if exposed to the outside air, but nonetheless, by the mid-way mark of their wait the pair could feel it dropping. Blankets were pulled tighter around their bodies in an effort to hold back the cold, and the men had moved closer together to conserve the body heat between them. Maybe it was the exhaustion kicking in, but the limited distance no longer bothered Lance. The hours of silent reflection were also leading him to one conclusion. If he wanted to stop the frustration, coming clean was the best solution. Yet one thing kept holding him back from making the leap— the proverbial aftermath.
Yeah, so telling Keith how he really felt might take the weight off his shoulders, but what would happen after that? What if Keith is disgusted? He’ll not only lose a friend, but how could they continue working together? That would be so uncomfortable! Lance groaned in his head. Would he be willing to give up his role in Voltron? What if Keith ended up leaving instead, causing him to feel guilty about it? Would the others hold it against him? Maybe if they talked it out, they can work out something amicable… ‘Argh!’ Lance screamed in his head as cradled his lowered head. Why did he fall for a teammate!
Keith looked over at the movement and saw Lance’s demeanor. “If you’re tired, why don’t you rest?”
“It’s not that,” Lance mumbled. “I mean I am, but it’s not that.”
“Oh…”
“Have you ever had a crush on someone but didn’t know how to tell them?”
‘So it is over a girl…’ Keith’s brow raised. “Why can’t you tell them?”
“Because, it’s awkward when you’ve known them for so long.”
‘Huh, so maybe it is Allura.’ Keith couldn’t say he was surprised, but it stung just a little. “You should probably just tell them, I mean if it’s eating you up this bad, isn’t it better to just know how they feel too?”
“I don’t know…” Lance sighed. “It’s not like they’ve ever given me a reason to think they’d like me back.”
“Still, once you do know, you can start moving forward again, cause right now you’re stuck and that’s worse.”
Lance glanced over to Keith who was looking in his direction. The man was right. Didn’t make a decision any easier… but he was probably right and all he could do is hope for the best. That didn’t mean he was ready to face Keith head-on either or see the physical reaction the man might have. Lance turned his head away and kept his arms wrapped tightly around himself for protection. “It’s… you…” he mumbled quietly.
“Come again? I didn’t catch that.”
“I said… It’s you.” Lance mumbled again, but this time a little louder.
“Me??”
“See, yeah, I told you it would be awkward— just forget I said anything. I feel better just getting it out.”
Keith forced Lance to turn back to him. “No, I mean I was just surprised cause you’re always chasing after women, but—”
“I’ll just drop it and move on,” Lance cut him off. “I don’t wanna make you feel uncomfortable.”
“But that’s the thing,” Keith interjected, “I’m not. It’s okay because I’ve liked you too but I just thought you weren’t into guys.”
Lances eyes flashed wide. He really hadn’t expected such a response, especially not this quickly. “You do?” His voice trembled as he verified the man’s statement.
“Yeah…” Keith blushed. “I don’t exactly have experience in this stuff, but I like you too Lance.”
Lance jumped up in excitement. “Wow— for once my screw up turned out to be a good thing!”
“Uh-huh…” Keith chuckled. “But don’t do that again!”

You’re doing a LoK rewrite, correct? Would be really interested in hearing how you plan on fixing Suyin’s character and the Lin-Suyin conflict because……. oh boy. Man there’s a lot to unpack there. This is what happens when we don’t let Toph just raise her fucking kids for the sake of pushing a stupid as hell narrative about working women and single motherhood.
I am indeed!
In... you know, the way I'm doing most of my big potential projects, in that I have a folder with some documents that have plot notes and... some day I may actually get full, finished fics out of them (h2o AU is in there, as is my voltron!atla fusion AU, and uhhhh my book 3 atla rewrite, and a few other things), so... but I will say that the docs I have for my LoK rewrite so far amount to roughly 4.2k words of just Plot and Character Notes, which may some day turn into words of Story, hopefully.
ANYWAY, POINT IS: yes, this exists, and I have Many Many Thoughts.
Including how the Gaang kids would shake out! Cause I know I'm doing Zutara, and maybe Tokka???? Although I don't wanna just leave Suki out either... maybe a throuple??? Or Sukka having an amicable breakup before Sokka and Toph get together--maybe she already has Lin by then, and Sokka helps support her through the grief of losing Kanto???? Idk honestly, I haven't actually figured any of that out definitively yet except that Aang was perfectly happy to settle down with an Air Acolyte from one of the rebuilt temples because he grew up and out of his crush on Katara pretty easily once he hit puberty and matured a bit.
UHHH none of which is actually an answer to your question, because it's a valid one! Which is why I've been sitting on this a while (10 days I'm so sorry) bc I haven't made any solid decisions but I've been letting it percolate around my head a bit. And the more I think about it, the more I really like the Sukka -> Tokka idea (and I don't want to kill off Suki since the kids all deserve their awesome Kyoshi warrior auntie in their lives, and also I want a Sukka kid to be besties with Iara [zuko and katara's youngest] so maybe she gets with someone else after she and Sokka split? I could be talked into Ty Lee/Suki actually, the more I think about it....), but obviously having a stable father figure and a Toph who is... not what LoK made her out to be will dramatically change the Beifong family dynamic.
That said, I think I actually have a solution. (I'm so sorry for what I'm about to do.) Toph has Lin with Kanto--and he passes away when Lin is two or three, which is why she has very few memories of her father. (Although none of this 'she doesn't even know his name until she's 50+ cause Toph didn't tell her daughters about their fathers' bullshit.) Sokka is there for her through it all (all of the gaang is, of course, but you know that it sometimes just hits different when it's someone you're also starting to fall in love with, especially when there are older and much more deeply buried feelings there that are now resurfacing, because at least in my version Toph was deeply in love with Sokka when they were teenagers, but he was in love with Suki and she also loved Suki so she didn't want to mess up anything about their family or the group dynamics by making her feelings anyone else's problem), they fall in love, get married and have Suyin.
(Sokka may jokingly refer to it as a shotgun wedding, but the truth is he wanted to propose well before he found out she was pregnant, his attempts just kept getting messed up in increasingly comedic fashion.)
Throughout all of this, Republic City has been established, Sokka is Chancellor, Toph is something of a defacto police chief--mostly because, at the time, no one else was willing to volunteer, and she jokingly offered to whip the law enforcement, but unfortunately everyone else at the meeting took her seriously. However, she is also the founder of the probending league, and basically her feelings about law enforcement are complicated and she actively discouraged her kids from joining the force which is part of why Lin did. How else do you have a teen rebel phase with a parent like Toph? (Which, in this instance, means tough and firm but fair, with a 'you break it, it's up to you to fix it' attitude and very little desire to actually control her daughters and their behavior.)
Ah, but here's the rub.
Suyin is ten years old when Sokka dies, and Lin is sixteen. I'm not sure how he's killed--maybe by Yakone, to tie it into my plans for Amon and book 1. (Note that I'm not sure when the Yakone bloodbending trial happened in canon, but it doesn't matter. The timeline I'm gonna build will be completely different post-comet, and I'll eventually write it all down so that I can keep things straight.) Which would incidentally provide excellent means of having Katara have a very personal stake in the Amon conflict, and perhaps color the fight between him and Iara, but I'm getting off track. And I think Sokka being killed by Yakone, and Toph being unable to protect or save him, or deliver her own brand of justice to avenge him (because Aang is there to stop her and.... shit probably got ugly, I suspect she didn't talk to Aang for at least twenty years after Sokka's death--and this isn't to say I think Toph is particularly violent or murderous, but in that moment, she absolutely wanted to kill the man with her bare hands, and however much she may have regretted it afterwards, she took a very long time to forgive Aang for stopping her in the first place), is what results in Toph stepping down as police chief.
She didn't withdraw from her daughters or fuck off into the swamp or anything (words cannot express how much I hate that part of her canon history), but she did grieve for a very long time. Lin, meanwhile, felt like it was up to her to keep her family together, while also feeling a desperate need to... prove herself, I think. And because her mother was so adamant that she not join the police force, that's exactly what she does. I think Lin completely misread Toph's intentions, too, and believed that the discouragement was because her mother didn't think she had what it takes, when in reality I think Toph was scared of Lin losing herself in the job like she herself had begun to, and eventually coming up on something she couldn't change or fix and making the same mistakes she had.
(I think Toph and Lin have communication issues largely because they are both headstrong and willful, but where Toph thought she was giving her daughters the room they would need to make their own way, what Lin desperately craved was direction and she felt like that was something her mother simply couldn't understand.)
Suyin, on the other hand, fell in with a bad crowd like in canon. I think that what she desperately needed was attention, similar to Lin craving direction, and Toph was trying so hard not to be her own parents that she went a little too far in the other direction and Suyin began to feel like it didn't matter what she did, her mom wouldn't care, or get angry, or discipline her, or anything. Lin and Suyin butted heads a lot growing up, too, especially after Sokka's death, because Lin tried to rein in her sister's behavior and this was met with resistance and derision because Suyin felt like Lin was trying to be both mom and dad and she was neither but her big sister would never admit to being just as lost as she was and it made her furious.
So when Suyin is sixteen, and Lin is twenty-two and new to the force, The Big Rift happens. Lin catches Suyin and her gang, tries to apprehend her, gets a scar on her face in the ensuing conflict. But instead of abusing her power and sending her problem child off to her mother before fucking off to the swamp to avoid the consequences of her actions, Toph tries to actually fix things. Suyin cools her heels in prison for a while, because she was paralyzed by guilt at the time when she hurt her sister (a few inches lower and she could have slit her throat), and was still there when Lin's backup arrived.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh..... I'm so sorry I rambled for so long, BUT THE UPSHOT IS: I think Suyin learned a bit about culpability and taking responsibility for her own actions, Toph realized that her daughters had different needs than she did at their age (and I think a lot of the problem was that grief clouded her own ability to connect with her daughters, and in trying to not be her own parents she lost sight of how to be the parent her own daughters needed), and Lin, I think, had to realize that she had never fully processed the loss of not one but two fathers and had turned to her job in order to avoid actually confronting the grief that had overshadowed her childhood.
However, she did not forgive Suyin, at least not right away--and she wasn't forced or expected to. Suyin understood that she crossed a serious line, she took her lumps and did her time, and no one shamed Lin for her anger. I think, as a result, she had less reason to hold onto that bitterness, and perhaps by the time the story actually begins, she and Suyin are on much better terms, though I haven't worked it out exactly yet.
UHHH yeah I went on for days lmao. All of this is subject to change, too, depending on the needs of the story whenever I get around to actually writing it all down, BUT these are my initial thoughts, at least.

(ft. my bookmark comments - mostly mha and voltron)
boku no hero academia:
what is right and what is easy - theroyalsavage
(bnha; tododeku; fluff + angst; 2k words; oneshot)
Midoriya Izuku is not chosen to represent Hogwarts in the Triwizard Tournament. He does not slay a dragon, or rescue innocents, or brave a maze of dark magic. He does not win accolades, or fame, or glory.
Instead, Izuku meets the son of the greatest dark wizard of the age, a Durmstrang student with hair like a sunrise and eyes like a war. And maybe, he just might win something else.
If I'm Being Honest.... by I_dont_know_man
(bnha; tododeku; fluff + crack/humor; 26k words; oneshot; truth quirk)
Midoriya scrunched up his nose in confusion. “Uh, Shouto, why are you glaring at me like that?”
“I-” Todoroki began to lie, until nausea slammed him like a door to any room that Bakugou entered. “I--” Todoroki grit his teeth, and glared daggers into the wall behind Midoriya. Goodbye, friendship. It had been absolutely divine while it lasted. “Because you’re very attractive.”
They say honesty is the best policy, but it sure as hell had a knack for Todoroki making a complete and utter fool of himself.
Or: In which Todoroki is placed under a mysterious truth-telling quirk and suffers, Uraraka laughs at him, Midoriya is confused but smitten nonetheless, and Twitter is the thirstiest site on the planet.
paint on our lips (paint on those fingertips) by spicanao
(bnha; tododeku; angst + magical realism; 11k words; oneshot; gallery au)
Galleries are wonderful places. The works seem so vibrant, so beautiful, so alive.
Until they're actually alive.

Todoroki Shouto’s Amateur Guide to Not Fucking Up The Timeline by Anubis_2701
(bnha; tododeku; crack/humor; 13k words; oneshot; time travel; future fic)
All that Todoroki had wanted was milk. Nothing drastic, nothing dramatic, just milk.
Unfortunately, in his quest to get milk, he ended up running into one of the saltiest, most impulsive people this side of the globe. Who also just so happened to have a volatile time-travel quirk.
So yeah, he was fucked. Just slightly. Being punted randomly through time wasn't exactly how he'd wanted to spend his Saturday morning. At least the younger versions of his friends are cute.
awake and (un)afraid, asleep or- by driedupwishes
(bnha; tododeku; fluff + angst + The Feels; 54k words; oneshot; social media/future fic)
“You,” Shoto says, picking his head up from where his screen is filled with The Worst Photograph Ever, curtesy of Shinsou, Jiro, Kaminari, his brother, and nearly everyone they know. “You are so dead to me.”
Kirishima blinks, mouth half open while Izuku mutters oh god, it’s too late, isn’t it on the other end of the phone, before Kirishima is leaning into his space to see his screen.
“Oh,” he says, in response to the photo someone in the crowd of civilians watching the fight had taken of them. “Oh, that’s-” he cuts himself off for a minute, leaning back to eye Shoto’s face while on the other side of the phone Izuku smothers what is probably a laugh, and then changes tracks.
“It’s super manly to love and support your friends,” Kirishima tells Shoto haughtily, as if this whole thing isn't his fault in the first place.
-
or: Kirishima and Shoto accidentally start trending on Twitter and in retaliation Shoto decides to make an Instagram to showcase all his Hero Deku merchandise, so that everyone knows how much he loves his boyfriend Izuku, and no one expects how quickly it will all spiral out from there

Hooliganisms by aphrodaisyacs
(bnha; gen/todofam; crack/humor; 17k words; series; social media)

(bnha; gen/todobakudeku; angst; 7k words; oneshot; todoroki-centric)
If he'd been more careful, then they'd be fine. If he'd been paying attention, then he wouldn't be alone right now.
But he wasn't and he hadn't, so it's just him, now. It's him, his thoughts, and the unconscious bodies of two of his closest friends as he waits for someone to reach them.
Whether they be friendly or not.

A Study in Firsts by Oceanbreeze7
(bnha; gen; angst + fluff + humor; 76k words; ongoing; class 1a-centric)
There’s a first time for everything.
The first time everyone crammed in Momo’s room to study, a mess of limbs and books on her bed.
The first time Mina burned crepes so badly the smoke alarm went off.
The first time a jumpscare got Sero so badly, he flipped off the back of the couch.
The first time Uraraka fell asleep at the table and accidentally sent it floating.
The first time someone realized Todoroki walked far too quietly, and far too cautiously around the dorms to be normal.
The first time Midoriya broke his toe on a door frame and kept walking through it.
The first time Kirishima woke up screaming through the walls.
The first time Tsuyu blanched at the sight of a needle.
The first time Bakugo dropped, clutching the back of his neck with eyes scarily vacant and detonating everything around him until Aizawa had to intervene.
It wasn’t always pretty, but the dorms were filled with firsts.
Responsibility by deafmic
(bnha; gen; angst + hurt/comfort; 94k words; series (complete); todoroki-centric; dadzawa + papamic)
“I told you outside,” Aizawa chooses his words carefully, reiterating the same point he’s made before. “My responsibility for you doesn’t end at the classroom. Every part of your life is partially my responsibility. Your father doesn’t scare or intimidate me. If you need help, I can get it for you, but you and I both know that you need to ask for it first.”
Aizawa organizes a way for the students to go home for the holidays. Todoroki Shouto, however, gets left behind by his father. Aizawa, annoyed at Endeavor, takes Shouto under his care for the night, and is joined by a certain Yamada Hizashi.

the drip of melting ice by walking_through_autumn
(bnha; gen/platonic shintodo; angst + fluff; 19k words; oneshot; todoroki/shinsou-centric ft. dadzawa)
Aizawa found out within a day. It was quite likely due to the dish Todoroki had washed and left to dry in the shared kitchen after the kitten had been fed off it. Hitoshi was forced to reflect that it wasn’t any good hiding the litter and cat food in their wardrobes if Todoroki was going to make a fundamental mistake like that.
Aizawa stood in his door frame and raised an eyebrow. “Well? Where is the cat?”
Hitoshi gave his most disarming smile. “What cat?”
Todoroki chose that moment to exit his room, eyes on his phone, other hand holding a cat toy. He bumped into Aizawa and looked up slowly, like in a horror movie.
“...oh,” Todoroki said. Aizawa raised the other eyebrow. Hitoshi rubbed a hand down his face.
Herbal tea, weekly floor gatherings, spoiled surprises, movie marathons, shared custody over a cat, rain and ice and blankets and plushies, and the journey of falling into a friendship.
(Or: Hitoshi moves into the 2A dormitory at the beginning of his second year, learns who his neighbour is, and makes the friends he had declared he isn't there to have within the space of a semester.)
Hand in Hand in Hand by kngsbrg (Citlalcoatl)
(bnha; todobakudeku; fluff + strangers to lovers; 10k words; oneshot; tea au)
Boiling the water, choosing the right temperature for the right kind of tea, using quality leaves, scooping the precise amount, and letting it steep for just the perfect time...
All that and more is needed to make a delicious cup of tea.
A business that Shouto was quite knowledgeable about.

Or; where Todoroki never went to UA and, in rejection of his father's ambitions, became a paramedic; and where pro hero Bakugou Katsuki is just a little bit too intrigued with the heterochromatic man who always glares daggers at him whenever he sees him.
When Bakugou was suddenly and abruptly met with two cold, heterochromatic eyes glaring daggers right back at him, he had two immediate thoughts:
"Why does he look like he's plotting my assassination?"
and
"Why the fuck are his eyes so pretty?"

This Is Now by colormesherlocked
(bnha; gen; angst + hurt/comfort + fluff; 193k words; series (ongoing); todoroki-centric)
Todoroki Shoto will be a hero.
...But not just yet. Right now, Todoroki Shoto is a bitter, pessimistic, hurt teenager who doesn't want help, friends or hinderances of any kind getting in the way of his misguided goals.
Thankfully, there will soon be people in his life who will be more than happy to drag him into a place of happiness, safety, and acceptance - kicking and screaming the whole way, if they have to. All he has to do is survive his first meeting with them and all the incredible changes that will come after.

When he's secretly tasked to find the UA traitor, Todoroki isn't expecting help. He's especially not expecting it from the three other first year students perceived as villainous in their own ways. Unfortunately for him, Shinsou, Monoma and Bakugou have all got something to prove, and his solo mission turns into a team effort that rapidly spirals far beyond what they were expecting to find - but hey, they're in too deep now.

When Natsuo is twenty-years-old, he publishes a tell-all book on his father and growing up in his house. This starts a domino effect, of course. With the book comes an investigation and sets the groundwork for the Hawks scandal in several years’ time that will see the disbandment of the Heroic Public Safety Commission and the ascension of pro hero Deku to the Number One slot. This will also lead to a decades long chain of change and progress with Deku wielding his influence and charisma like a sword and shield to make society and the world a little better than when he found it.
In essence, you can say, that Todoroki Natsuo is the true hero of this story with his fake quirk and an anger burning in his gut. Just one small book and suddenly…everything changes. The future is brighter for its existence. The curtains are thrown back and the light begins its work to disinfect and cleanse.
When Todoroki Shouto is in his second year of UA, his brother, Natsuo, publishes a tell-all book of essays about growing up in Endeavor's house.
This is Natsuo's story about how he really changed the path of things.

Shouto Todoroki and His Stuffed Eeyore (And Also Childhood Trauma) by ThatSpicySeaFlapFlap
(bnha; gen; angst + MORE ANGST; 42k words; complete; todoroki-centric)
Aizawa looked him in the eye, placed a gentle hand around his bicep (not like Endeavor, his father had only ever touched him with the intention to burn) and asked, “Are you okay?”
People don’t usually ask him things. They like to tell him things, like where to sit or what to wear or how to talk or how to be a hero or how to be himself.
‘Am I okay?’ He thought. He realized he doesn’t ask himself things, either.
Shouto didn’t have an answer to Aizawa’s question, so instead he said:
“A very long time ago, my mother did something....highly upsetting.” The boy was tracing the outline of his scar, his calloused finger stopping and jumping around the bumps and ridges of the burnt skin. “Something today reminded me of that.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” His teacher asked.
“No.”
“Okay. I’m here when you do. I’m always here, kid.” Shouto only responded with a sob. He felt as if he’d earned that right after all the emotional labor he had been put through tonight.

In their first year at UA Midoriya sent his location to the class 1-A group chat during the Hosu incident because he didn't have time to do anything else before rushing to Iida's aid.
Now in their second year, Todoroki sends his location to the group chat at 6:30am on a Saturday morning after going home for the weekend. Midoriya knows immediately that something is very wrong and takes off, Bakugo hot on his heels.
-----
"They’d known each other long enough to be able to communicate practically wordlessly. The quiet rage on Midoriya's face was extremely telling, this was bad. Bakugo braced himself as Midoriya shuffled to the side to show where his hands were hovering over what was most certainly a burn and a serious one at that. Todoroki’s own fire didn’t burn him but they all knew that didn’t make him fire proof. Bakugo could do the math."

Aizawa frowned, "uh, yeah. Someone showed you Dabi's video, didn't they? And I don't doubt Todoroki himself has told you bits and pieces."
Izuku did not expect this to be how the conversation went.
"Yeah. But Todoroki isn't being hurt now. He's fine. Endeavour's changed."
Or: Midoriya trusts the Hero Commission far more than he should, especially given the situation at hand. Todoroki isn't available to explain what's what, so Aizawa and Bakugou do it instead.

Chapter Four | I Take A Liking To Lilac All Of A Sudden
Pairing: Lotor x Reader (There you go)
Genre: Angst? I don't knowww
Warnings: Mentions of cancer, mild swearing
Word Count: 1,676
Author’s Note: This is kind of a filler? I can't write long shit in one sitting, so. It's important to reader and lotor's relationship, tho.
Tumblr media
‘Good luck. Come back alive, all of you, alright?’ I asked, my eyes roving over the three people standing before me – Matt, Pidge, and Shiro. ‘It’s, like, one of the simplest things you could do. You give Lotor, you get Mr. Holt. Simple. Very simple and easily doable. Right?’ My gaze dragged over all of them once more as I picked at my nails nervously. As much as I was aware of the fact that this trade wasn’t simple and easily doable, I knew that I would legitimately have a nervous breakdown if I didn’t spew lies through my teeth.
Shiro smiled at me lightly. ‘Of course. I’ll make sure nothing goes wrong. You guys take care too.’
‘If, however, anything happens,’ Allura chided, ‘the other lions will arrive as soon as possible.’
‘Yeah,’ Pidge said with a wry smirk, ‘so try not to pass out.’
‘Okay,’ I nodded my head rapidly, ‘yeah, okay, I – I can do that.’
‘Good. Well, we’ll get going then,’ Shiro announced, and turned around, the others following him.
Hopefully, all would go well.
. . . . .
You know what? Everything actually went relatively well. Yes, my hunch turned out to be correct and Zarkon chose to go through with the ‘I was lying all along! Bwahahaha!’ route and ended up getting himself killed at the hands of his son, but overall, I’d say it was a win-win, seeing that we got Pidge’s father back (thank God, who knows what havoc she’d wreak if we ended up not getting Sam back) and the evil maniacal tyrant who’d been ruling over the universe for ten thousand years died.
The one downside was that now there needed to be a new Emperor, because following Zarkon’s death, not only the Galra empire, but simultaneously the entire universe had gone into a state of chaos too. There was no doubt that underlings and generals would try to take over smaller parts of the empire, and once that happened, Voltron being able to do anything would be a stretch.
And, according to Lotor, a ceremony to crown the new emperor, the Kral Zera, would now be taking place. Once he said that, he really didn’t need to say more – it was obvious what his implications were. A new emperor was to be crowned, and if Voltron was to achieve peace, Lotor would have to go and secure the throne. It was a sensible thought to be had, no problem. The thing was, to reach the Kral Zera, which was taking place in two days, in itself was a decision to be taken with utmost thought. The Paladins just didn’t have enough time to decide.
On the one hand, Shiro and Lotor were adamant that the latter be crowned emperor; the other Paladins, however, were justifiably hesitant. I had been standing there listening to them going back and forth, not saying a word myself, like always.
To be honest, I just wanted to go sleep. For some reason, I’d been feeling overly anxious these past few days. White was still not responding to me, I was having regular dreams about the day I woke up here. It was always that one day, that first conversation I had with Shiro. It was as if my subconsciousness too wanted me to reach out to Shiro because there was clearly something weird going on with him.
My suspicions only solidified when I heard Shiro’s voice boom through the room. My head snapped up. Lance with a look of shock and the slightest bit of fear on his face, Shiro’s visage twisted with uncharacteristic anger.
‘Shiro. I think you should just relax a little.’ The man turned to me, brows pinched.
‘I am relaxed -’
‘No, I really think you aren’t… so, like… take it easy, yeah?’ I asked, jumping my eyebrows, arms still folded in front of me, maintaining a calm yet defensive posture. I could feel the entire room’s gazes on me. After all, I almost never spoke in such discussions, or any discussions, really, and indirectly opposing Shiro, of all people, was way too brave a thing for me to do.
Shiro looked at me with slight disbelief, a glint in his eye challenging me to speak up. ‘You want me to take it easy? Take it easy? The fate of the universe depends on this, taking it easy is really not an option right now. I’ve put my foot down – as the Leader of Voltron, I’ve taken this decision. You aren’t someone befitted to oppose me.’
Ok, wow. Everyone shared the same opinion apparently, as now the silence seemed piercing. Clicking my tongue, I tilted my head. ‘Well, maybe not as a Paladin, which I’m not, or a member of the coalition. But as a friend, Shiro, you’ve been acting strange. Everyone realises this. You realise this. … Maybe, I don’t know… maybe all this reflecting on you’ve been doing, maybe the role of leader is taking a toll on you? I, heh,’ I chuckle, ‘I really am not sure. But you’re not relaxed, and you’re not acting yourself.’
‘Could you please not tell me how to be a Paladin?’
‘While you all waste time squabbling, sinister forces are conspiring to fill the Galra power void. If I don’t return to claim the throne, there’s no telling who will.’
Does being royalty instantly make you a hundred times more dramatic? Sinister forces? Deadass?
I walked out.
. . . . .
Shiro went behind our back.
Yeah.
Acting like a complete bitch, he took Lotor to the Kral Zera, where, for your information, he could’ve been blown up. By Keith.
I wanted to deck Shiro. Instead, I visited White. I had hopes she’d respond to me, since I’d been brave and spoken my mind. I prayed on all the Gods and Deities above that my expectations became reality.
Yeah, they didn’t. She didn’t budge. The whole entire two goddamned hours I sat in front of White, she ignored me. Frustrated, I ended up punching her, resulting in bleeding knuckles. Lotor saw that, by the way. He seemed to always be keeping an eye on White, regardless of me being there or not, which I admit is a little strange, but I wasn’t judging. These aliens seemed to worship the Lions.
Lotor also invited us to the Galra headquarters, and lord oh my lord, was it fancy. Allura had gone off to do research with Lotor (I’d been about to make a joke about what “research” those two were really about to do, if you catch my drift, but then I saw Lance looking at the pair glumly, and thought better of it. I’d lightly punched Lance on the shoulder, and raised my eyebrows so as to say ‘They’re gorgeous aliens who could give Bella Hadid and Harry Styles a run for their money, it can’t be helped.’ He laughed.) I accompanied Hunk, Lance and Pidge in their shenanigans for a while, but ended up wandering around the place.
Space was beautiful. Even through a window, I wanted to just stare at it for as long as I could, enjoying a show more realistic than ever before. It was really similar to all the Marvel movies I’d watched; I felt a weird sense of pride at that realization. I remembered how I’d cried at the end of Infinity War, my friends clinging to me and bawling as well; how loud I’d squealed at an absolutely steamy piece of Kakashi fanart Cory had drawn; how happy I’d been when Sasha, my neighbour and childhood friend, had come out victorious after battling cancer for years.
I hadn’t realized when the tears had started slipping down my cheeks. I wiped at them, but they wouldn’t go. Sniffling and wiping so furiously my skin would get burned when I heard footsteps, I turned to see Lotor approaching me.
‘Hey -’ shit, my voice was so thick. Clearing my throat obnoxiously loud, I greeted him again. ‘Hey, uh… what… how’s yours and Allura’s research going?’
‘The research has been going quite smoothly.’
‘Hmm. Nice.’
Lotor was staring – no, correction - scrutinising me. I could feel it, his intense as hell eyes burning into the side of my face. I wasn’t going to give up, though. I stared at the window with as much concentration as he me.
He was the first to speak up. Ha.
‘You’re not of the Paladins.’
‘Really? I didn’t know, thanks,’ I still wasn’t looking at him.
‘Deepest apologies if I offended you -’
‘You didn’t, it’s okay.’
‘…’
‘…’
‘…If you wish to answer, why do you appear… distant, compared to the other Paladins? You say they are your friends, but there’s such scarce interaction… you seem acquaintances at best.’
‘… They are my friends. I like to think so, because, well… because I don’t have anyone to go back home to.’
‘Oh. My apologies, I didn’t mean to pry.’
‘You didn’t pry, chill. It’s not that my family’s dead or anything, it’s just that… no, well, my family is dead, but… like, they’ve been dead for around three hundred or so years…?’ I turned to Lotor, brows furrowed. He looked less confused than me.
‘Sorry, no, that’s – that’s shit explanation, um… you could say… I… I’ve lived past my time. I’m alive when I’m not supposed to be.’
I didn’t explicitly mention, as you can see, that I was a time traveller, because I wasn’t really one with that fact yet. I’d accepted it, yes, but that didn’t mean I was comfortable with it. It was still a foreign truth, something I didn’t take great joy in talking or thinking about.
When I turned to Lotor, I felt like he’d understood what he needed to already.
It was bizarre. A lilac alien was the last person I would expect to understand me so easily, but it was what it was.

Way back after I had just spent an entire weekend burning through the first 14k words of Dormiveglia, I decided that I wanted to do something of a foil to that, and this one came about. It's semi-abandoned rn, but I do want to come back to it. I inverted the boys' dynamics (Omega Keith and Alpha Lance), but - and no spoilers! - that's not the only part that's changed-but-not. Standing rule still applies - it's ok to skip the Omegaverses if they're not your thing! :)
~*~*~*~
Betas never could understand. Betas kept to their own dynamic. Keith supposed he envied them in a way. Never having to worry about Alphas making lewd comments, at the very least, on one end of the scale, or treating them like fine china on the other. And Omegas themselves were either just as submissive on one end, or more like Keith, not having any patience for typical Alpha behavior on the other. It’s what nearly got him kicked out of the Garrison. His propensity for getting in fights. If it wasn’t Griffin, it was another Alpha making obnoxious comments.
And then it’s what had gotten him stuck with the world’s most annoying co-pilot. In the interest of “diversity” and “balance”, his irritating co-pilot was an Alpha, and the other two crew members were an Alpha and Omega. Keith felt a sort of kinship with the other Omega. Pidge didn’t have time for anyone’s shit. He got it. He knew what it was like to be an Omega with a short fuse. It’s what made Keith like the tech genius when they first met.
He did have to, grudgingly, admit that, as annoying as his co-pilot was, as an Alpha, he was one of the better ones. Lance knew that Keith was the better pilot, and that’s why he’d started some imagined rivalry between them. Which didn’t help him, in Keith’s opinion. The other Alpha, flight engineer Hunk, was a cinnamon roll made of sunshine, and unlike any Alpha Keith had ever met. Even Shiro and Adam. Shiro saved him, in a way, and he and his boyfriend – fiancé, by then – basically adopted him. Shiro may have been missing, but Adam still loved him, despite the fight they had before Shiro left.
But none of this explained why he was on the roof of the Garrison barracks in the middle of the night with Pidge, Hunk, and, unfortunately, Lance. Pidge had been looking for his brother and father, lost on the same mission as Shiro. But something a little closer to home was messing with his computer. Either way, this whole night had been a shitshow. It started with Lance dragging Hunk along to sneak off campus. Something Keith could have told them how to do far more effectively if they’d asked. He didn’t need half his flight crew getting themselves in trouble, so he’d gone after them. And then they started following Pidge to see where he was going. And then they were all on the roof.
“Lately, all the alien chatter has been about something they're calling ‘Voltron’. But that’s been interrupted by whatever this is,” Pidge said, gesturing at his laptop screen.
Hunk crowded in beside him. “Oh, oh, wait. This looks like Fraunhofer lines. For elements, y’know? But this doesn’t look like any I've ever seen. Maybe we can reconfigure your scanner to pick up on it and we can trace where it’s coming from.”
“How long would that take?” Lance whined from where he was sprawled on the floor of the roof.
“Not long. Maybe half an hour.”
Keith just sighed and leaned back. At least he could see space from there.
Reconfiguring Pidge’s scanner took the half hour Hunk said it would. In the interest of not getting caught, Keith redirected them when trying to sneak out so they wouldn’t. Finding the source of the readings the scanner was picking up took a little longer than a half an hour. More like an hour and a half. But when they found the cave and its odd carvings it made things better. Then the carvings on the walls and floor lit up when Lance touched them and suddenly they found themselves falling down a waterfall and directly in front of a massive blue cat-robot-something.
Standing in front of it, they all saw the same thing, an even larger humanoid-shaped robot that looked like it was made of the blue cat in front of them and four others, all different colors. They all knew that it was Voltron, and that the cat in front of them was a piece of it. The vision dissipated quickly, leaving them all wondering if they really saw it. But they did, and then were wondering how to get past the force field the cat had around it.
Without warning, Lance walked up to the energy shield. “Maybe all you have to do is knock,” he said, doing just that.
The force field dropped, and the cat’s head lowered, allowing him in. Lance, being Lance, rushed in without hesitation. He found out quickly that it wasn’t a robot, it was a ship. He threw himself into the pilot’s seat and the controls came to life under his hands. Hunk, Pidge, and Keith made it on board seconds before the cat broke through the rock wall and out into the night.
Lying in his bed onboard the Castle, that night felt like a lifetime ago but also like it could have been yesterday. Keith stared at the ceiling, insomnia doing its best to ruin his sleep cycle. He kept thinking about what had happened that night – finding Blue, rescuing Shiro, and then Blue taking them through the wormhole. It wasn’t the thoughts themselves that kept him up, but he found that insomnia made his mind spin out of control. Well, if he couldn’t sleep, he might as well train. Then he wouldn’t have to deal with thinking about things he couldn’t change.
Finding out that he was half Galra solved one mystery about Keith’s past. But something still felt off. Something he couldn’t figure out. He had asked Allura and Coran if the Castle’s medical technology could determine DNA origins. He wanted to know if they could figure out his biology. But they both told him that it would take a trained medic to be able to properly accomplish that. So the rest of the mystery remained.
He heard sounds of drones and gladiator training robots as he approached the training deck. It was the middle of the night, who could possibly be up at this hour besides him? That question was answered before he got to the door and heard the distinct sound of laser fire. Lance was all about his precious beauty sleep, what the hell was he doing up – and training – at this hour? Keith walked into the training deck just as the last gladiator fell, a floor panel opening to drop the drone into the automated repair sub-floor.
“Pause training sequence,” Lance panted, sinking to one of the benches at the edge of the room.
“What are you doing here in the middle of the night?” Keith asked, walking over.
“I could ask you the same thing.”
“I couldn’t sleep, and insomnia fucks with my head. I figured training was better than letting it.”
Lance nodded. “Yeah, same.” He paused, collecting his thoughts. “I – I never meant to be such a dick back on Earth. Or out here. It wasn’t even anything to do with you being an Omega; you were just the better pilot and it made me feel like I had something to prove. Probably sounds as stupid as I think it does.”
“No?” Keith questioned, sitting beside the Alpha, “I don’t think it sounds stupid, but I don’t think like that, so I don’t really get it. I don’t think you have anything to prove. I just thought you were annoying.”
Lance snorted and leaned back against the wall. “Thanks,” he said, “Some people have a way with words, while Keith just decks them in the face.”
“I can be a little too blunt sometimes, huh?”
Lance rolled his head to face the Omega beside him. “Sometimes? Try, like, all the time. Dude, you nearly punched Iverson for some bullshit he said. I’m not denying it was bullshit, just saying that maybe punching him wasn’t the best choice. And the only reason he said what he did was because you have no filter.”
“Hey. I have a filter. I just choose to ignore it,” Keith defended himself.
Lance burst out laughing. “Ok, fair,” he said, laughter subsiding. “I don’t want to be rivals. I never really did. But we’re a team now. All of us. And we should act like it.”
“Yeah, we should,” Keith agreed, “I don’t mean for this to be the thing I lead with, but are you ok? I mean, I know we all miss Earth, home, but something’s been feeling off with you lately.”
The Alpha sighed heavily. “Yeah – I don’t know. Ever since we got out here, there’s been this weird nostalgic feeling. And I don’t know why or where it’s coming from. Like, sometimes I’ll see something here on the castle, or it will be something Allura or Coran says, or, like, the way they say it, and I get this weird feeling. Like it’s familiar somehow.”
“Well, we found out that I’m not all human. Maybe it’s possible that you’re not either. We have no idea how many races or species found Earth separately. Maybe there’s someone in your family who wasn’t human.”
Lance had never even considered that. But Keith had a point. Maybe somewhere in his family was someone who wasn’t from Earth. He didn’t think it was anyone recent, but then again, Keith was only three months younger than him, and he wasn’t fully human. Who knew, maybe one of his parents wasn’t as human as they claimed.
“Yeah, maybe there is,” Lance finally agreed.
Keith realized that he was actually tired. He didn’t want to stay up and train, he just wanted to go to bed. And it looked like Lance felt the same way. Was his insomnia cured? Probably not. But maybe late-night talks with friends could help with it.
“I think I'm gonna head to bed,” the Omega said.
“Yeah,” Lance yawned, “Me too.”
They walked back to their rooms together, brushing against one another occasionally, but that was just because it was late and they were tired. There was nothing more to that. There couldn’t be. They had only just agreed that butting heads all the time was a bad idea. Keith couldn’t bring himself to admit that there was something about Lance’s earthy, woodsy scent that called to him. There wasn’t. Was there? The Alpha’s scent had the musky note common to Alphas, but it wasn’t overbearing like so many were. It was soft, comforting. But that still didn’t mean that there was something else there. Lance just had a slightly unusual scent, that’s all.
Alphas usually only went into a rut when they were involved with an Omega, or mated to one. But being in such close quarters with three Omegas made it more likely to happen, relationship or not. But Keith wasn’t at all thinking about how Lance’s scent changed the one time said Alpha found himself in a rut when the last half of his own heat had coincided with the first half Allura’s. How it had become richer and deeper and how Keith had found himself instinctively attracted to it. Nope. Not going there.
Keith didn’t know that Lance was thinking the same thing. He didn’t want to keep going with some stupid, pointless rivalry that he’d made up. So he’d done something about it. But now that he had, Lance was trying not to think about the Omega walking beside him. The one with the herbal, incense-sweet scent. The scent that wasn’t anywhere near as sweet as other Omegas. Lance loved Pidge like a little sister, but she smelled like buttered toffee, and it only got worse when her heats hit. Keith’s scent intensified when he went into heat, but he didn’t smell like a candy shop.
So, no. Lance was not thinking about the boy beside him. Not at all. Or his scent. Or why he was suddenly thinking about how his scent changed during heats. Especially not that last one. Very especially not that last one. Not that it mattered. This was neither the time nor place for it. They had far more important things like winning a 10,000-year-old war to worry about. So Lance was just going to put that thought in the box of things to worry about later.
The two separated at their doors, going to bed alone. Neither would admit that the other’s scent permeated their dreams.
The next morning, Allura called a meeting after breakfast. When the paladins gathered on the bridge, they found the projected star map up, focused on an area of space they had never seen. It was a little farther out of the way, and, as Pidge noticed, not too far from Olkarion. But that didn’t answer the question of what the system was or why it was of interest to Voltron.
“I will admit,” Allura said, “The planet in this system is not one that requires Voltron. But it is one that may be of help to us.” She zoomed in on the map, showing the planet in question. “This is the planet Tas. They have an innate knowledge and understanding of biology. While they could be a great asset to the Coalition, this is more personal. A question about the capabilities of our medical technology here aboard the castle was raised recently. The Tasians may be able to help with the answer to that question better than we can here.”
“Getting better functionality from our medical equipment would be a huge help,” Pidge said.
Everyone agreed on that point, and that their next stop would be planet Tas. Everyone took their stations, Allura plotted the course, and opened a wormhole. A lush, green world came into view on the screen. The castle was very shortly hailed by the planet.
“Greetings and welcome to Tas. I am Ael, head of the planetary council. To what do we owe the pleasure of a visit from Voltron and the Castle of Lions?”
Ael appeared human, only the intensity of their bright emerald green eyes gave any indication that they were not. Their primary sex was difficult to discern, and no one wanted to assume, especially with an alien species. Likewise, their clothing didn’t appear gendered in any way. It was simple, with clean lines, and flowed for ease of movement.
“Greetings, Ael. I am Princess Allura of Altea and the Voltron Coalition. We have come here to Tas because of your people’s innate understanding of biology. We do not have the training or knowledge to make full use of our medical equipment and were hoping you and your people could assist us with that.”
Ael brightened. “Of course. We would be happy to assist the Voltron Coalition. Especially with something as vital as the care of those sick or injured. Please, you are welcome to land.” The gently smiling face of the Tasian disappeared from the screen.
Coran received the landing site coordinates, and Allura guided the Castle to the planet’s surface. The planet Tas was just as green on the surface as it was from space. Had they not seen it on the descent, team Voltron might never have known the city was there. While controlled, every building was dripping in plant life, whether from climbing vines, hanging planters, or window boxes. It felt as though the planet itself was alive.
The team quickly came to realize that primary sexes were of no social importance. The other Tasians were as androgynous as Ael, and everyone filled whatever role they were best suited to, regardless of primary or secondary sexes. Primary sex played a role to an extent even in Altean culture, and this was something unlike anything they’d seen.
“What is it about this place that feels so familiar?” Lance asked himself.
Keith was standing beside him, hearing his question. The Omega had had the same thought. “I don’t know, but something is definitely familiar about it.”

Slow and steady... breathe.
tw: severe blood loss, needles, self surgery, loss of conciousness.
Lance wasn’t particularly aversed to needles, he just didn’t want to have to willingly stab himself with one, ya know? Everyone is distraught once they realize Lance is hurt and that they can’t be there to help him because they’re in the middle of nowhere and can’t leave their lions, so talking him through stitching himself back together is the best solution they have. If only Lance can stay awake long enough to fix himself up so he makes the journey.
“Is everyone alright?”
Keith’s voice jolted Lance from his slumped position after his body had gone lax with exhaustion and his mind wondered off. He almost didn’t catch Keith’s question with how intently he was staring at the floor in front of his pilot chair where a sizable puddle was beginning to form.
“Didn’t really account for having to bail so soon without checking in and we have a long way to go before he get back to where Coran had to move the castle...”
He wondered vaguely what he could’ve possibly spilled as he shrugged off the weariness from the battle they had just narrowly escaped. They were all spent after things went pear shaped and had to evade the hail of fire from galra blasters all the way up to their lion’s ramps.
Everyone ushered their respective ‘yes’s though, even Lance, but Keith decided to do a sound off for damage control anyway since they had a bit of a journey before they made it back to the castleship.
“Pidge? Did your shield hold up?”
Shield. Hmm. Lance knit his brows together as he forced his brain to work through the fog that addled it.
“Yeah, it did. I’m not hurt.”
Unlike Pidge, Lance wasn’t as lucky and his had cracked almost immediately in his one on one with the galra soldier that had discovered him. He’d taken post in a makeshift sniper hole between some storage crates to cover his team as they made their eacape.
“Good, how about you, Hunk?”
Lance wondered what else he was forgetting about the battle they’d just fought, maybe that’s why he felt so strange and out of it, why his mind was so slow.
What the fuck happened back there?
“—saw you take a few hits in close combat at the end there, you alright?”
Lance’s heart fluttered sadly as he recalled how he had been lining up a shot for the soldier that was advancing on Hunk when he’d been caught.
His scope had just zeroed in on the soldier when one that Lance wasn’t aware of made his own surprise attack, clutching the armor around his ankles so painfully that he was afraid it’d crack before yanking him backwards and away from his position.
He had cried out more at fact that he hadn’t gotten the shot in because that meant that Hunk would have to fight and he hated fighting. The guy was a goddamned pacifist in the middle of an intergalactic war, but his build made him look like a formidable threat and attracted unwanted attention during battle all the time.
Lance just wanted to spare his friend from having to engage in the thing he hated so much. But he couldn’t. He’d failed.
“I’m dandy, nothing more than a couple of bruises Coran’s special cream can fix.”
Those bruises were Lance’s fault. He had failed to protect him from that soldier, to protect him from having to do the thing he hated. It took all of him to stifle the broken sound that erupted in his throat as his stomach clenched with guilt.
“Okay, let me know if anything changes.”
Lance breathed shakily as he blinked back tears, but even when he wiped the wetness under his eyes they remained blurry, unfocused.
“Allura? You were with me but you had the quintessence—”
That’s what this entire mission was about...
Stealing a powerful vat of quitessence Pidge had been keeping tabs on with intel she’d stolen from a galra battleship en route to occupy a peaceful planet in the nearby solar system. Shiro wanted them to intercept the delivery so that there would be less catastrophe when they formed Voltron to defend the planet.
It was more than vital that they succeeded and Lance was determined, ready to do whatever he could to prove himself as a sharpshooter and make sure they secured what they were after.
“You can be at ease that I am uninjured and the quintessence is in tact.”
This bit of information did little to ease the rapidly increasing feeling of wrong that was consuming him. They had succeeded and he had done his job relatively well aside for one mistake, but that mistake had gotten Hunk hurt, and he was having a hard time reconciling that to make the success feel like a victory.
He was also having a hard time staying focused on Keith as he spoke with each of them, all of their voices as they recounted the battle muddling together, lost behind the ear piercing ringing that only he seemed to be affected by.
His breathing picked up and he was vaguely aware that he had started sweating, realizing he’d zoned out again just in time for his turn to check in with Keith.
“Great, and Lance? I know you were in a bit of a scuffle, are you all good?”
Five minutes ago he would have answered with a resounding yes, but as soon as he’d sat down in Blue the pump of adrenaline through his body slowed and the weariness had dripped away bit by bit to reveal that he actually felt incredibly weird. Of which was doubly confirmed with the near constant waves of concern Blue was sending him.
“Uhhm,” Lance paused, his mind blank.
For the first time in literally ever he had no idea what to say. His mind was in a thick haze as his body continued to try and come down from the massive high of combat and so he found he couldn’t really grasp what the strange feeling was exactly.
“I... I think I took a couple of direct blows after my shield... maybe my head because I sort of feel... I don’t know actually, just-just weird I guess...”
“Wait, your shield crapped out while you were fighting that soldier?”
Lance was slower to respond this time.
“Yeah, it cracked, my shield...” his words came out between increasingly ragged breaths.
“Well, that’s not promising. What do you mean by weird, do you think you might have a concussion?”
“Concussion...” he mused aloud, not really understanding why that was a concern before he reminded himself that he was fully missing a few key events from the end of the mission. He was faintly aware of worried fussing from Hunk and Allura as he racked his brain.
“Pidge, can you pull up a full visual of Lance?”
“On it!”
“...I don’t think I hit my head though. I mean, yeah, I guess I do feel a little dizzy maybe... and lightheaded... everything looks kinda strange too,” Lance rattled off as he took in his surroundings.
The lights of the panels and screens in front of him blurred and stretched if he moved his eyes too fast, so he tried to keep still and focus on just Keith’s face for now. It was pinched with concern but his voice divulged nothing but calm.
He could feel Blue nudging him, clearly worried over something because she had been withholding control of the steering for a while and was doing most of the piloting then.
“Easy girl, I’m alright,” Lance whispered.
He was becoming more lightheaded by the minute and his movements were now so sluggish he wasn’t sure he’d have been able to steer straight much longer anyway.
“Full screen visual should be popping up—
“Oh, crap!”
“Lance, what the hell?”
“Lance?” Keith’s voice was steady, breaking through the sea of concerned remarks pointedly.
For everyone else the entire view of Lance’s cockpit was now visible and so was the red that painted the front of his armor and much of the floor.
“Lance... do you know how long you’ve been bleeding?”
“Huh? I’m not-I didn’t get... wait, what do you—woah,” Lance had looked down to examine himself, certain there would be nothing.
But there was. And he was really confused because he hadn’t felt a thing but the sheet of red cascading down his armor from his side said otherwise.
He swallowed thickly, head swimming from the angle as he peered down at the grizzly sight. With the threat of passing out now a very real possibility, he brought his head back up to rest against the back of the chair and looked elsewhere as he fought the blood rush that threatened his ability to remain conscious. Something about seeing that much of his own blood was making him sick to his stomach.
“-nce! Lance, focus! Good, okay, so did the soldier have a sword or a blaster?”
He knit his brows together as he thought back on it. He remembers glinting metal that swooped down on him in short, swift arcs. The solider had a very long and very serrated knife, not a blaster. He didn’t even have enough time to transform his bayard before the soldier descended on him, his shield not lasting more than four hits before it shattered.
“A knife, he-he had a knife...”
He tried to ignore the resurgence of worried questions from his friends.
“Okay, can’t be that bad if you didn’t even notice, right?” Keith tried to put him at ease but it wasn’t really working.
He hadn’t noticed when it happened because he was quite literally battling for his life, losing a significant amount of blood in the time that had passed since then. And that scared him.
Because he wasn’t phsyically with the others, he was bleeding out and basically alone.
He was going to die... and his friends would get to watch.
“Lance, stop worrying and just focus on me okay?”
“R-right, sure. Um, what-what do I do though? We can’t just pull over... we’re in the middle of nowhere in outer space and the castle is too far... what if—I don’t want t—I can’t-can’t—“
“Lance! What did I just say? Stop worrying and listen to me!”
He dragged his eyes from the hole they were burning into Blue’s dashboard to meet Keith’s purple saucers.
“You’re okay. You’ve got a med kit in the cargo hold and we can talk you through how to patch yourself up, yeah? You’ll be fine.”
“Fine. Right, I-I’ll be fine.”
“Do you think you can stand? The med kit is on the wall behind you.”
“I can try...”
Lance scooted to the edge of the pilot chair and braced himself before rising onto his legs.
“Shit...”
The world spun before him as the new orientation produced another swell of blood from the comprised bit of his armor where he’d been... he didn’t even know what he’d been yet but he knew it wasn’t good.
He forced himself to take a deep breath, blinking away the static before starting for the back of the cockpit, using the wall to keep himself upright.
“Kit’s on the left.”
Walking felt weird. His legs were weak and didn’t seem to ever go where he intended, but they held his weight even when he’d acquired the bulky med kit and had use a bit more effort to lug it back to his pilot chair.
His friends were in the middle of a discussion Lance hadn’t heard and continued when he returned. He had to set the kit down before maneuvering carefully around the puddle to get himself seated in his chair.
He began tugging off the top half of his armor, starting with the gloves and elbow guards which came off painlessly. It was only when he moved to the top most pieces that he ran in to some issues. He inhaled sharply when tugging on his right shoulder guard pulled at whatever was waiting beneath his armor on his side.
“Hey hermano, just breathe, you’ve got it,” Hunk offered when Lance stopped.
He nodded and took another deep breath before continuing.
The left shoulder guard came off with little incident when he approached it with more caution, but now came the chest piece. He separated the clasps at the bottom and sides before leaning forward to slide the back piece out, the front piece falling away when he leaned back in his chair.
He gasped and was sure that his friends had too when they saw the gash in his side. It was long and wide, deepest towards his back and tapering off on his stomach just above his belly button.
Lance remembered it now. Once the shield finally shattered, he threw his hands over his head and rolled out from under a hit that would have killed him.
The soldier seethed at the evasion and launched at Lance again, giving him barely enough time to deploy his bayard before he was on him. Twisting around was all he could do to get more distance between them so he could take his shot, but he wasn’t quick enough. He caught the impending strike in his side anyway, the blade cutting into him due to his own momentum even after the soldier had stopped swinging and fell to his knees lifelessly.
He thought his armor had held, not aware of the splintering crack where the blade broke through the joint at the midsection.
“Okay, okay, hey! You’re still okay! You’re going to fix it and we’ll walk you through it, yeah?”
He nodded. The air in Blue seemed to be warmer than usual but it didn’t stop him from shivering now that his armor was off. All of the heat in his body seemed to be drawn to the hole in his side.
“Pidge, do you think—“
“Yeah, I’ve already patched Coran in and he’s got a whole set of medical diagrams pulled up... okay Lance, you ready?”
He attempted a ‘yes’ but his mouth was so dry he wasn’t sure he could separate his lips to speak so he hummed instead, his eyes wide and searching as he combed over the contents in the open kit below him despite the mounting pressure behind his eyes that made keeping them open a challenge.
“There’s a vial of yellow liquid and a syringe, grab those... also the sheers because you’ll need to cut away what’s left of the suit around the wound.”
He grumbled at the thought of stabbing himself with a needle but seemed to shift into a sort of auto pilot after that, moving methodically and ignoring the agony of the pulsing wound on his side now that he was aware of it.
His face paled visibly once he held the syringe up in front of him. The needle was big and the liquid in the vial looked like acid than it did medicine.
It was Allura interrupting his inner turmoil this time, her voice full of fear but sure.
“Lance, you can do this. It will hurt, but you will be grateful once you’ve administered it, trust me.”
“Whatever you say, princess...” he smirked meekly and Allura almost laughed.
Once he’d cut away a haphazard square from the material left around the entirety of his wound, Pidge explained how much of the liquid to pull into the vial and how much he should inject each time and where.
He figured he’d need to get a move on with all of this from the way that everything seemed to be spinning and steeled himself for the first of numbing injections. It was to go right above his hip below the deepest part of the wound.
“Breathe...”
He waited for an inhale and went for it before he could panic.
“Shiiiit!”
Turns out the needle going in wasn’t what he should’ve been wary of because the altean medicine burned. He squirmed and cursed as he pushed in the allotted dose, practically seeing stars at the thought of administering five more of them.
“Relax buddy, you can do it.”
He pushed the next shot in quickly, starting with another before his body could protest and did that with the rest of them all in quick succession, not letting himself focus on the seering fire until he was done. Throwing his head back and doing his best to keep from writhing as much so he didn’t make the wound worse.
“Gah! Fuck, fuck, what the fuck is wrong with altean pain medicine?! Hurts-hurts more than the freaking knife wound—“
“Shut up, you’re okay. You won’t feel anything soon. Hard parts over, but now you gotta relax, freaking out on us is only gonna make things worse.”
Keith’s stupid for being right, but he is.
Don’t freak out. You can do this... you have to do this.
“Okay,” he huffed, “no freaking out.”
His voice was trembling almost as much as his hands as he let the empty syringe fall mindlessly to join the puddle of his own blood on the ground.
The pain in his side was diminishing now, the burning of the numbing medicine becoming a cool sting and then smoothing out into a hollow warmth. He tested the skin around it with his finger and couldn’t feel a thing, perfect.
“What’s next?”
“Ha,” Pidge laughed grimly, “now you have to put your money where your mouth is and thread an actual needle.”
He couldn’t help but laugh at that too, the movement made something around the wound on his side twinge but he couldn’t really tell where or why with how numb it was now, which was probably a good thing.
“The pack of needles is in the sleeve... look for one that’s curved... size 3–yeah, that’s it. There is a clamp to guide the needle and a tweezer type tool to help tie it off, grab those. Now you need a couple packs of gauze and tape... the spool of polyester blend thread—wait how do atleans also have polyester? Right, focusing now, sorry! Okay, next is the antiseptic... yeah it’ll probably hurt but you’re not croaking over galra germs if we can help it... sorry Keith, you definitely don’t have galra germs.”
Keith just pinched the bridge of his nose but Hunk seemed to be amused by it, his light chuckle taking the edge off the intense worry written all over his face.
“We sure one of you can’t just do a little space walk over here?” Lance asked as he held up the bottle of antiseptic, “seriously don’t know how the mullet isn’t jumping at the opportunity to torture me, like come onnnnn! I know you’d enjoy it!”
“Shut up and listen to Pidge, the castle is still really far and Coran hasn’t been able to triangulate our location yet, so we’ve gotta keep moving.”
He grumbled pitifully but looked to Pidge’s face on the dashboard in front of him.
“You ever threaded a needle before? The sewing kind not the almost killing your friends trying to show off your piloting skills kind.”
“Ha-ha and no, but i’ve seen my máma do it... something like this I think... hey, I got it!”
“Damn, he really can thread the needle.”
“Thank you Hunk! Finally some recog—“
“Both of you be quiet. Lance, listen to me very carefully because now you have to stab yourself with it. Lock the clamp at the end of needle, you’ll hear a click. You won’t feel it when you start stabbing—stitching, probably just the motion, but you’re still bleeding so you’ve gotta hurry.”
Lance was well aware that he was still bleeding. His body wouldn’t let him forget. The color had all but left his face and he was drenched in sweat. And he seemed to shake steadily now no matter what he did to try and calm down, no doubt a side affect of half of his blood being beneath him instead of inside him. But he ignored it all and put his remaining energy into listening to Pidge.
“Start at the back where it’s deepest and hold the skin together... yep, good now bring the tip of the needle just below—left more, perfect. Coran says to angle it in the direction you want it to come out the other side... go as deep as halfway down the wound and don’t push too far in on the other side where it’s coming out... kay, now push it in, shit. Lance! LANCE!”
As soon as he had the needle situated as deep as it needed to go he lost the battle with how lightheaded he’d become. It had him slow and sluggish before but was now severely impeding his ability to remain conscious for his self surgery.
It wasn’t so much as the actual piercing his own skin that culminated with everything else for him to faint. More of the way he could feel it moving inside of him, like he could feel that the metal was cold by how it stood out against the heat of the wound, just not the actual cold of it or the pain part.
He didn’t know how long he’d been out when the voices of his teammates registered in his head again. They seemed worried, some of them distraught. Like Hunk, he was really scared about something, sounded a little mad the harder he listened.
“...if he doesn’t come around soon I’m going over there—no, I don’t care!”
“Just give him a minute!”
“Wait guys he’s moving.”
“Lance can you hear us?”
“Lance!”
Everything seemed so loud but muddled and indistinct all at the same time.
“Ugh, stop screaming...” he slurred, his head still hurt and he felt even lighter than he had before.
“Open you eyes, bud. You’re almost done, come on,” Keith urged.
Almost done his ass, he’d passed out just after getting the needle in, not even finishing the first stitch. This was going to be hell.
“The needle stayed in, you just have to get it through the other side and tie it off. Coran says you can space them out and skip a few, you just need to get it closed to staunch the flow.”
He hummed again and pried his eyes open wide to blink around wildly before he tried to sit up. But his limbs were so heavy even lifting his arm was hard, so he stayed where he’d slumped down, shoving his legs out farther to get his middle straight.
“J-just through the other side?”
“Yes, where you have it now is fine... just like pinch the skin and coax it through and don’t stab your finger like your about to, you’ll feel that!”
He wanted to laugh, he really did. Because this was so ridiculous. It was probably the dangerous amount of blood he’d already lost but he just found this so amusing.
Having to stitch a knife wound up while a lion flew him back to a castle that wasn’t really a castle—in space! All in space!
He wondered what he would’ve been doing back home if he weren’t here right now, probably nothing nearly as ridiculous.
“Lance, stay with us,” Hunk’s low voice pulled him from his mental tangent.
He rubbed his eye with the back of the hand holding the tweezer, it was covered in blood.
“You’ve got to tie it off now, so pull the thread through until just a little is left, like an inch—stop! Now unlock the clamp and grab that last inch, wrap the end with the needle around a couple of times, not tightly. Release the lock on the clamps but keep a hold of the end of the thread, grab where it comes out the other side and pull through then pull tight and cut, good, done!”
He took in mouthfuls of air like he’d just finished a race.
Shit, he could cry. This was hard and he just wanted to close his eyes and forget about everything. It didn’t hurt anymore. But he just wanted to be asleep and not have to focus so hard on stitching his own wound closed while his friends tried to make him feel better.
Because they couldn’t. Because this sucked and they couldn’t help him.
“You’re doing amazing Lance,” the princess remedied, her voice firm but soft all the same.
His heart felt warm with that, it was something he could hear his máma saying.
“Few more and then you can rest, bud.”
“Y-yeah, okay...”
It got increasingly difficult to keep his hand steady and after the fourth stitch he’d sort of gave up on trying. He resolved to do them quickly like the injections once he’d gotten the hang of it. But his energy was leaving him faster than he could stitch.
And then his heavy breaths and shaking hands made it hard for him to hold the skin together long enough to get the needle through, so eventually he resorted to holding his breath and stabbing wildly.
His friends grimaced every time he did that. They all felt horrible that they couldn’t be there to physically help him but also knew they needed to get to the castle as quickly as possibly.
So Pidge continued to guide him through each stitch and everyone else praised and encouraged him each time he finished one. Their voices pulling him back when he’d drift off into the pull of darkness that continued to tease and toy with him.
“-ng so good.”
“Keep going, bud.”
“-re so strong, Lance.”
“Only a few left... Coran says it looks good.”
He coughed on the dryness that had made its way down his throat and almost into his lungs with how tired every part of him was. Breathing hurt because he had absolutely nothing left on his body that didn’t, made so much worse with the strain of having to withhold air so he could get the needle though.
The wound was practically closed now and not bleeding much through the gaps where he’d forgone some stitches. He was at the part where it tapered. Pidge said it looked like one more would do and so he held his breath and shoved, whining when he poked his hand by accident, not even hearing what his friends were saying as he tied it off almost robotically, the muscle memory of having done it a dozen times now taking over as his mind remained elsewhere.
“-n you hear me?! Lance, Lance listen to me! You’re almost done, don’t go just yet.”
He forced his lidded eyes to look at Pidge, he could barely make out her face with how blurry everything had gotten.
“Open the gauze pads and place them over the wound... tape the bottom and only the bottom down completely then rip off a long enough piece for the top and sides... pour the antiseptic onto another piece of gauze, dab it over the wound, and press it all down before you pass out... got that?”
He huffed wearily and thought he did something of a nod, but it probably didn’t look like it because Pidge asked if he’d heard her again. He had. He was just done. He tore the gauze pads free form their packages and placed them over the wound before taping them down.
None of it looked pretty. Not the sutures, not the bandaging, none of it. But it would have to do. He opened the antiseptic and lost the cap in the process but couldn’t find it in him to care.
He looked up at the screen of worried faces in front of him.
“Go on, bud. It’ll only hurt for like a second and then you can sleep.”
“You can do it, you just stitched your skin back together, this is light work.”
“Once again, altean medicine hurts like hell, but it works. Trust me, Lance.”
Yeah. Trust the princess.
He closed his eyes and waited for it. He really wasn’t sure how anything could top the fire that was the pain medicine, but somehow the antiseptic achieved that. His vision whited and he thought he could hear himself screaming, but he felt too far away to be able to hear that.
He didn’t remember covering the wound with the gauze but apparently he’d gotten three sides stuck down before his head lolled to the side and gentle waves of assurance washed over him from Blue as everything faded to black.
He couldn’t be sure how much time had passed between then and the next time he woke up, but he didn’t have the energy to ask. He just knew that he was still in Blue from the pulse of assurances that surged back up again as soon as he came back to.
“Coran says he’s picking up Black on the radar, he’s making a worm hole now. I’m gonna fly next to Blue to be ready to grab her just in case she doesn’t get the memo...”
He must’ve groaned because someone was talking to him then.
“Oh! Not dead, that’s so good, hi Lance.”
Freaking Pidge. He might’ve laughed. He couldn’t remember.
“Hey dude... nah don’t try and move, just stay there.”
“Thanks for listening to us for once.”
“Lance, you’re so brave, you should be proud of yourself that you were able to do that.”
“Course, princess. Any-anything you say...” he smirked and tried to hold up his famous finger guns, earning some laughs from his teammates that faded quickly.
Blue was the last thing on his mind when he passed out again. She was proud of him too.

I really like your fic recs and I don’t really keep very up to date with the latest sanders sides stuff on ao3 so, favorite fics from the past week?
Oh uh... lets see today is 8/5/2020... and I’ll do my fav fics that have just been posted or updated this week:
Swept Away - Part Three of my favorite Sirens au, where Logan gets swept up in a storm and wonders if anyone will miss him (they will).
The Variables -  Logan bought a house in the middle of nowhere so he could avoid having to ever talk to anyone else ever again. The ghosts have other plans.
You Can Picani Family You Want - Emile fosters two kids and quickly learns he’ll do anything to see them smile.
Atypical Destiny - LAMP soulmates are determined to make their polyamory work, even if no one else thinks it will.
‘Cause Every Time We Touch, I Get This Feeling - Touch starved Janus falls for touchy-feely Patton.
Rays on My Skin - Virgil is six when he discovers that he has multiple soulmates and absolutely none of them speak his language. Oh and also three of them don’t know he exists.
If You Give a Side a Lion - Remus and Roman have some things to work out, but first it looks like theyre gonna have to save the universe, along with three other guys, an alien prince, and his assistant. A Voltron AU that I didn’t know I needed.
The Story of Emile the Seer - Emile is unfortunately born with the ability to see the future. Theres a lot of awful things people would do about that.
Alleyway - Logan finds a baby in a dumpster in an alley and decides to keep it.
Slower Than Words - Virgil can’t see. Patton can’t hear. But theyre stuck in a cell together while people conduct unethical experimentation on them, so maybe they can learn to communicate?
Old Scars, Future Hearts - Virgil has a problem asking for help when he’s overwhelmed, but this time? This time the others are already angry at him. And they wont want to help him if they’re angry at him, right?
the shapes in the silence - Virgil turns into a cat-sized Dragon when he gets overwhelmed which only becomes a problem when Patton finds him hiding in the pantry and thinks he’s a figment from imagination and not another side. And if the Light sides like him so much as a dragon....well maybe he should stay that way.
breathing and other rhythms that used to be easy - A Nightmare brings Virgil back to the dark side of the mindscape, just to check, just to make sure, just to see that Deceit and Remus are still breathing and thats it. In and out. They won’t even know he was there.
Road Trips and Missing Persons - Patton goes out for groceries and doesn’t come back home because he gets kidnapped by a child with a knife. Virgil is on the run from his crazy mother after she killed his father. Janus will do anything to get to his brother before his mother does. Remy isn’t actually dead. And Logan will strangle his entire family for not answering their phones.
Bounty - A sequel to Abduction in the Space Family series: Space, aliens and Virgil is a human in the middle of it all. Excellent series, 20/10 and I will cry about it. thanks.
The Curse of Hanahaki - In which Remus plays himself by cursing Imagination so that anyone who falls in love will cough up flowers. Aka Hanahaki but with a tangible plot.
fall out of in love with me - Deceit asks Remus to make him a potion to dilute his intense feelings for Virgil before they crush him at the absolute worst possible time for Virgil.
A Wager. - Virgil meets professional gambler and they mage a wager they both come out winning in.
i’ll sink for you - Deceit can hypnotize anyone, but Virgil is all to willing to be his plaything.
Save the Moment - Patton takes pictures of everything. Janus notices more than he should.
Lavender - Patton can’t handle the sound of Logan and Roman’s argument, but thankfully Janus steps up to the plate.
Mind Over Matter - Being a human in Space is just asking for trouble. Being forced to fight in fighting ring just makes Virgil another sad statistic. However, choosing not to fight his clearly harmless opponent....that makes him different.
The Apartment - Virgil moves into his first apartment and becomes best friends with the elderly man who lives next door and tells fond stories of his numerous grandkids that can never seem to make time for him. Virgil is unaware this is how to get himself adopted into a new family.
sweet tea in the summer - Roman and Patton are the sweetest of lovers through the years.
How two exasperated doctors adopted three robots - Rival Scientists Janus and Logan both have the great idea to see what their company is hiding on the same night. They were not prepared for the answer, but they can definitely get used to it. (Bickering Loceit? uh hell yeah.)
Breathe Out - Virgil will become minion for one chance to get out of the closet, thanks. aka: The other darksides are terrible, and Janus thinks that he and Virgil might be able to work well together, and somehow that puts Virgil on track becoming a Light side whether he wants to or not. (And I gush because everything this author writes is amazing)
The Debate - Part of The Other Side of the Mirror au, where Janus, Remus, and Virgil are Thomas’s core sides and big bad scary Logan shows up to ruin everything. Except that he’s actually helping and Janus might have to reconsider if the other sides are actually as bad as he’s made them out to be.
And It Fell Away - Patton and Virgil are part of the Earth Kingdom army. Janus is part of the Fire Kingdom infantry. It seems that the only thing they all have in common are their need to escape the current battle and then the war itself, if just to save their own lives.
Come Alive - Patton tries to end it all but not-so-friendly vampire Janus stops him. Now there’s just an agreement: Patton spends one year as a vampire in the underworld city for the supernatural, and if they decide living still isn’t worth it they can take a stake to themselves, but...Janus is willing to bet they can find at least one person whos worth it. Ft: everyone falls in love with Patton at first sight, as it should be.
by the book - Librarian Virgil runs the adult section of the library, but his most interesting visitor is the tiny child who talks too fast and has really super attractive dads.
Pen Pal - Logan’s roommates all get together and Logan doesn’t think he has a place there with them, so he withdraws and turns to his pen pal for company.
Wedding Crashers -  While standing at the alter for his arranged marriage to a princess he will never love, Logan doesn’t think his really lovers are coming for him. He’s pleasantly surprised.
You Haunt Me And I Like It - Ghost Virgil has had a lot of roommates before without ever needing to show himself, but this one is just too skeptical for him to leave alone.
Wow that is a lot more than I thought I had!
