Time for the first of the sad Gabriella ballads!

This part with her dramatically swaying on the barrier is so iconic. She’s just as dramatic as Troy they’re perfect for each other, in fact I wish they cranked it up a bit because she really is just walking through the corridors - they could have at least had her go on the rooftop for a brood or something. That backlit shot is beautiful though!

Anyway A tier? But could drop to B just because the staging isn't that inspired, I like the song though damn can she belt those notes! Actually is this the only song where they sing straight at the camera?

Ok so as much as I wish the communication was better (I mean she could have at least said “hey I heard what you said to your team and that you’re done with the callbacks”), she does handle it pretty maturely. Although she’s clearly upset with that “Go Wildcats” comment, she’s understanding of the pressures on him and how hard it is to stray away from the social hierarchy. She doesn’t just immediately give him the silent treatment, she tries to make it sound like there are no hard feelings.

I just imagined Kelsi's reaction if Gabriella went to tell her they're not doing the auditions 😭😭😭

Taylor and Chad realise they’ve fucked up – what did you think would happen? Okay to be fair, and I just want to put some perspective on this, the whole story takes place over like... 2 weeks? Chad would have had exactly no idea that Troy enjoyed singing, from his POV Troy really was all about basketball and the team, but suddenly a new girl turns up and he auditions for the musical out of the blue? Even Ms Darbus found it hard to believe he was being genuine, from his friends' perspective it looks like he was only doing this because he had a crush on a girl he met like 2 days ago. I can see how they'd think this was unserious behaviour given their tournament coming up.

I mean sure Troy does try to broach the subject with Chad before Getcha Head in the Game, but very tentatively. I'm not saying things would have gone fine if he'd just come out with it earlier like Zeke did with his baking hobby (judging by everyone's reaction to Zeke anyway), but here Taylor and Chad regret their actions as soon as they realise how upset Troy and Gabriella are. It seems like they genuinely did not expect that this would mean so much to them.

I'm actually gonna plug a fic here that explores this part of the movie from Chad's perspective and has a really good interaction between him and Gabriella. It's called Explanation, Elaboration on AO3 go read it it's really good and a nice little character study

I love how Troy’s friends find him on the rooftop so easily, he really thought this place was secret. Two options: They apologised to Gabriella first and she told them where Troy could be, or they just knew this whole time that he likes to go there to brood and they just let him

Love how Taylor has the only speaking role in this geek group. It’s kind of funny that in the next movies, they’re just no longer part of this friendship group because they’re a bunch of extras LOL. She makes a really good speech though, even if Gabriella doesn't listen :(

Currently reading: hmmm actually actually read, or books that I really absolutely definitely have decided I want to start reading Very Soon and have strategically placed it in a pile in a high traffic area of my home, or theory/philosophy books I read a few pages of every few months for the last few years, or (probably danmei) novels that I read a chunk of several months ago and will read more but I just haven’t felt like it yet? because there are dozens of those :P ... actively finishing The Drawing Book by Tania Kovats, various mxtx novel fan fictions or akiangel chainsaw man fan fictions. constantly reading he xuan fan fic ! i just finished vol 2 of the manga Blissful Land, 18th century tibet-based slice of life, (a french translation I got to practice french). I have also been reading in abrupt starts and stops It Was Vulgar and It Was Beautiful, a book about ACT UP and how they used art in their activism in the AIDS crisis.

Current obsession: does this just mean an enthusiastic interest in a topic or something that is consuming you body and soul that you can't escape as much as you would like to while your proverbial wife and children cry themselves to sleep alone at night? tv and movies and music generally is the obsession that devours me, but oddly enough i have been somehow pretty balanced and chill about things lately ... i'm not even gripped with a fervour for he xuan meta as much. i AM often thinking/fantasizing about abandoning living in a city and for a life in the mythical countryside. reading/watching a lot of things about neurodivergence, adhd, trauma, climate change, social activism movements. past obsessions that don't feel as intense i still hold close to my heart: he xuan, the ocean, neanderthals, ancient cave paintings. uhh, coffee. i started taking a ceramics class and it's been really cool, I remember when i was deeply obsessed with the lascaux cave paintings how excited i was by how the drawings seemed so dynamic by how they sat on the three-dimensional and inconsistent surface of the cave in the lumps and hollows of the rock and I couldn't think of anything in the modern world in art in galleries where that was possible and felt this intense nostalgia for 30 000 years ago, but the other day i was like adfjladsjfadlskjf CLAY IS IT! and was getting excited about making a piece like the interior of a cave and drawing on it ... maybe it's a spark of a new obsession

What's your phone's wallpaper: A fanart piece of Pantalone from Genshin Impact skdjfhsdf it's been there for the past half a year, and it's funny because I used to change my background fairly often before but nowadays I'm just too lazy to change it. So I guess he'll be there until I find something new that I really really like.

Last song you listened to: Idk man, I'm listening to music daily so songs come and go every 4-5 minute skdjhfsf But I guess I could put down the song I'm listening to right now while typing this - "You Are My Sunshine" by Johnny Cash.

Currently reading: Kuroshitsuji. I'm really bad at sitting down and reading books so I usually listen to audio books instead but I love collecting books for some reason skdjfhsdf, but keeping up with the Kuroshitsuji manga is easy since one chapter is released every month, and ngl, I would do the same to other on-going manga series but that would require me to... y'know, sit down and read a lot just to catch up skdjfhsd but I do have Vanitas no Carte in the backburner that I'll eventually get to reading in full. Same goes for the Sailor Moon manga, which I actually own the entire collection of, and I have read at least 3 volumes of it + the volumes with the bonus stories. But in general the collection is just... sitting on my bookshelf collecting dust 😭

Last movie: Uhhhh.... I used to watch movies so much but nowadays I'm too addicted to youtube content to really sit down and watch movies, because it's always such a hassle because every time a movie is over I'm sitting there like 'ok now what to watch' and then I get stuck in limbo of what I feel like watching skdjfhsd And youtube is endless. But I think that the last movie I watched was "Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back - Evolution" with @jinanreona :3

Last show: ... Same thing here, I don't watch a lot of shows either. And if I do, I usually rewatch shows I'm already familiar with ksdjhfsdf I think the last show I watched in whole was The Walking Dead back in February. And a couple of weeks ago I watched a few Kuroshitsuji episodes with @dokitm! But I think that's about it skjdfhsdf

Piercings/tattoos?: No tattoos, but I'd like to have one one day when I'm financially stable to get one skdjhfsd I've had plenty of piercings tho. I got my ears pierced when I was 7 and I still have those, and then when I was 15 I pierced them again so I had two beside each other on each ear. Then when I was 17 I got one for my nose but I let it grow away like 3 years later because I thought it always looked like I had a giant decorative zit on there skjfsd Then I got a navel one when I was 21, and I actually loved it a lot and had it for years. But then one day the jewelry came loose and I couldn't be bothered to get a new one and that one too eventually grew away. I've always wanted a tongue piercing, but it has just never really happened yet. Maybe some day~

Current obsession: Uh... I'm very particular in the way I obsess about things skjdfhsdf I don't have a lot of things that I obsess over, but I have a couple that I keep switching between depending on what kind of content I'm exposed to and/or engage in at the moment. Like, for example, right now my current obsession is Breath of the Wild because I'm replaying it to get into the hype for Tears of the Kingdom that is coming out tomorrow (!!!!), and I've been obsessing about it for at least 2 months straight now just because of that. But like... even tho I've been playing a lot, I still don't play every day. And the days when I don't play, I'm obsessing over any of my other interests. And whenever I'm not obsessing over those, I'm obsessing over the one remainder thing. The other day I was obsessing over Warcraft lore because I was spending a whole day playing WoW, and before then I was obsessing over Genshin, and before then it was something else. I obsess over the same things but I do it in phases, and I rarely get new obsessions ksdjhfsdf And ofc, in-between all of these interests, I'm constantly (tho subconsciously) obsessing over Kuroshitsuji and Twisted Wonderland ( Sebastian and Malleus specifically ofc ) :'3 It's like when my mind isn't occupied with anything in particular, Sebastian and Malleus is always living rent free in my head, and I spend my time drawing fanart of them.~

Favourite fictional character: If I don't say Sebastian Michaelis here I cannot in good faith call myself the biggest Sebastian apologist to have walked this Earth.... but Malleus, Yuugi (ygo), Howl (howl's moving castle - mostly the book version because he's such a little shit there and i absolutely love it, but the movie version is what i was introduced to and it will forever hold a special place in my heart), Zhongli (genshin), Fiore (sailor moon), Mamoru (sailor moon - manga and smc have him much better fleshed out and i love it, but he 90s anime will obviously always have a special place in my heart because it is what i grew up watching ♥ ), Lady Mipha (loz: botw), and Harley Quinn (btas as well as the newer animated harley quinn series) are all ofc huge faves of mine as well ;w; There's absolutely more but.... we'd be here all day~

Fraternity by Andy Mientus was amazing! A real page turner! One of the best, most engaging books I've read.

I really wanna get into reading Ella Enchanted. I've heard good things!

What’s something you learned this year?

All the advantages of foot massages! And that keeping an 'Affirmation Board' on notion is an extreme help. I use gallery view and I put gifs and positive quotes from my favourite media and characters to look at when I'm having a bad day. I also put techniques for coping that include pressure points, breathing techniques and tips for dealing with my sensory issues, sometimes paired with a gif of a scene that reminds me of it. Wish I'd started on it years ago but it's better late!

Favorite place you visited this year?

Just the town nearest mine. It's my favourite town!

What was the most impactful life lesson you learned?

Copy & Pasted from my Affirmation Board: "There will never not be something wrong that upsets you. Perfection is a myth. Happiness is focussing on the good despite the sadness, guilt & shame that always bubble beneath. Last Song: Delighted to say the last song I listened to was "Thank You For the Venom" by MCR; I only recently got into their music because I had a Hilary Duff and weird-prog-music-my-dad-showed-me childhood instead of the angsty anger tunes all my friends had. On the same playlist I listened to while make dinner last night are Nirvana, Bikini Kill, The Rasmus, Hole, Garbage -- all the classics.

Currently Watching: Silo: I know everyone is loving Rebecca Ferguson in this and I am too, but I am also greatly enjoying Common's performance, and have ever since his Hell on Wheels days. Season finale soon!!! I'm on the edge of my seat!!

Stranger Things, but with german dubbing and subtitles: vague inclination to rewatch the show, but also wanted to practice listening to german. Two birds one show situation: can watch something in the language I'm trying to get better at but also already know what's happening in the plot! Everyone's voice actors seem just slightly more high-pitched than the original cast and that's A-OK

Also keeping up with new Strange New Worlds, everything on Dropout (Dungeons and Drag Queens tonight!!), and the weekly MerediddyS youtube video.

Currently Reading: A Marvellous Light, by Freya Marske: on my to-read list ever since I knew one of my fave captive prince fic authors was writing original fiction! I'm really enjoying it, except when I am reading on the bus and things get steamy. I love the POV switches, and the oxbridge-ness of the main characters. Delighted to learn there is a wlw sequel!

As the Women Lay Dreaming, by Donald S. Murray: got recommended to me by a friend and sounded just enough like all that literature of the norwegian occupation that I eagerly accepted her thirdhand copy. One of those interpersonal and journal-perspective novels set in the Hebrides at various intervals around the 1918 Iolaire disaster. The writing style is so visceral and evocative, it's truly like reading a movie or something, in the best way possible.

Current Obsession: Riverdale. Was gonna put this under 'Currently Watching' but I'm self-aware enough to know I'm becoming obsessed. I'd seen the first season and a bit before dropping it years ago, but I've recently been at the mercy of my flatmate's secondhand descriptions of all the insanity that show contains, and have finally given in. I'm only on season 2, but it's already got me in its terrible, awful grip. There are some lines in this show that will haunt me forever.

Favorite Color: can i be annoying? i’m gonna be annoying. uk that color of water in like the caribbean or hawaii or other tropical places like that? where it’s kinda like turquoise but the farther out you actually go on the water the richer it gets with layers and layers of deep blue and light blue and blue-green all combining? yeah that’s my favorite color.

Last Song: oh boy okay well the song i listen to like every day is “Didn’t I Do Well” by James Newton Howard so yes it is a movie score and yes i suppose it is the last song i listened to yet again i am not ashamed

Last Movie: currently in the middle of my lotr/hobbit autumnal rewatch but i did take a mini break and watched “Smilla’s Sense of Snow” when i was with my mother recently because she had been talking about how she wanted to see it again

Currently Watching: . . . look i mainly watch movies ok i’m not a big tv show person but like every six months or so my brain goes “feed me some episodic mindless viewing” and i end up watching some criminal procedure show. so yeah anyway we’re right in the thick of it now and i’m actively binging law & order (mike cutter i adore you)

Other Stuff I Watched This Year: like i said, not really a big tv person so if i do end up watching something it’s typically because of or with another person. so with that noted i watched a ton of those new paramount+ shows when i was with my father (1923, tulsa king, special ops: lioness, etc.) i caught up on ted lasso season 3 with my mother and my sister, caught up on shadow and bone season 2, i did rewatch all of flashpoint again (hello episodic viewing necessity), oh and the last of us!! so good!!

Shows I Dropped This Year: umm literally anything that ever came out on disney+. i started off watching some of them a couple years ago when they came out but there have just been *so many* and i just don’t have an interest in their stories so this year has been cold turkey on em all.

Currently Reading: i finished Persuasion and Price of Freedom not too long ago, so firstly that can help show my interest in varying genres, but now i’m kinda in between books and i need to find something good . . .

Howdy, I'm hurring with an answer!!

I think the first film was "Gladiator". I saw it approximately 10 years ago and was BLOWN AWAY. The plot, music and above these RUSSELL.

And then it got me, RUSTY MA MAN. "Les Miserables" followed, "Next Three Days", "A Good Year"! And there was "Robin Hood" among them as well. I remember especially the huge impact "Master and Commander" left on me.

The reason for my Russellance(Russell + Renaissance) happened quite spontaneously, to be honest!

I was revisiting the soundtracks I held dear when Spotify decided to play "Now We are Free" and It ALL CAME BACK TO ME. I rewatched "Gladiator" the next day.

Films and storytelling, most of all, are the very reason I haven't given up when things were at their worst in my life. There was always a story which would resonate with my heart and melt the sadness away even if just a little bit. I've rewatched "Master and Commander" recently and That was the 3 time I fell in love with this film.

ALSO, WAS NO ONE GOING TO TELL ME THIS WAS BASED ON FREAKING 21 NOVELS is another story completely

I'm caught up now with "A Beautiful Mind" which I watched 2 times- First and LAST. As a person who suffers from OCD and anxiety, I felt EVERY SECOND of this film and it shattered my heart(recovery will take some time, hah).

"3.10 to Yuma" was SO GOOD, I'm thrilled to get immersed in westerns! (I've been trying to get round to it for a couple of years now, hahahh).

What is vital to mention is that "The Nice Guys" is ACTUALLY such a GOOD FILM I can't believe it!

I also feel obliged to let you know that I'm oh so rubbish at sticking to questions, I just go full DIGRESSION mode!

I personally love everything that comes from your beautiful mind (or at least everything you choose to share with us) so I wouldn't be too worried about the second part if I were you, even though I'm sure it is very nerve wracking to put out into the world something you've worked hard on.

Also please don't hesitate to say that you're doing okay 🥺 Life is full of good and bad moments both and the bad ones will inevitably come too, regardless of whether we acknowledge the good ones. So in my view, we should enjoy the good or okay times as much as we can while they're happening. Although I completely understand the hesitance when the bad times have been happening particularly often 😔

I've also been doing okay, haven't felt like doing much in particular. I've stayed at home quite a bit because I had the house to myself which is a rarity for me and I really enjoy my uninterrupted alone time (like the typical virgo that I am 🙄🙄🙄). I have a smol break coming up at the end of this upcoming week in which I have to get a few things done for uni! And then perhaps a little trip abroad at the end of the month? (literally just for two days, but still exciting!)

Oh and also I watched Your Name the other day as per your recommendation a bit ago and it was great! Very cute but also pretty emotional, I've gotta say! I kept thinking of both you and Jungkook while watching it because I know he likes it too 🥺🥺🥺 I used to watch so many more movies, maybe I should start again, been feeling like watching ones heavy on romance but not like romcoms, you know? ok i’ve collected my thoughts on evil dead rise so under the cut i will share them hehe!! THERE R SPOILERS UNDER HERE!!! i talk abt what i liked and didn’t like and i talk specifically abt scenes!!!! if y’all wanna talk to me abt it more feel free to send me an ask, i’m abt to nap cus of cramps but i will answer them when i’m up <3 lmk if u agree or not and what ur fave scenes were!!!

i didn’t hate it! i’d say overrall this is a high three or a very low 4, but i don’t think i’ll be rewatching this any time soon :/ i def prefer the 2013 remake but this was still enjoyable and i had a good time watching it!!!

i think the problem i had was i had seen the trailers (which were all clips basically? at least the official ones i found on tik tok were clips from the movie) and had spoiled major moments of it for myself. normally i’m okay with and love spoilers but i think i would’ve enjoyed this one in particular more if the few scenes had been a surprise to me!!

things i loved: ELLIE!!!! holy shit, i truly think she stole the show. the difference in her as human vs as a deadite was so cool, i loved her mommy shtick she kept through out, and i think she was so eerie (i legit had a nightmare abt her killing me a few days ago before i had even watched the movie and that never happens) so!!!! i also liked the story and the change of setting, it being in an apartment and confined on that one floor (for the most part) was so interesting and i loved the difference in the book of the dead from the other movies AND the vinyl!!!! the gore was top notch and i saw lots of practical effects which will always make a movie at least 2 stars for me!! also the girl who played kassie was good AND she did her own stunt for the elevator scene which was so cool hehe. i liked the more subtle call backs to the past movies in the franchise more than the overt ones!!

i rlly liked the scenes of ellie in the hallway through the peephole and how there was blood dripping over it!!! i I LOVED THE SCENE WHERE ELLIE IS LAYING OK THE GROUND AND BRIDGET AND DANNY CRY OVER HER BODY BEFORE LAUGHING. it was such a good scene omg!!!! also the scene of bridget under the sheet floating down the hallway following danny and kassie GODDDDD!!!! and not to praise deadite ellie again but the way she moves was so cool hehe, i rlly liked how subtly off they all walked and how it felt like they were getting used to being in a body again!!!

i also loved the opening title card scene after the girl falls into the water!!!! seeing her rise up in a blasphemous way along w the title card and have it reflect in the water OH it was so good!!! and the scene where the girl is talking and saying the line of the book the other one is reading made me go 😦😦 so!!!

also im also glad they didn’t include a tree scene, but they payed homage w the elevator wires. that scene was unnecessary in the first movies and is one of my least fave parts of the franchise (especially with how Certain Fans treat it) so i’m glad they didn’t include it LMFAO

things i didn’t like: most of the acting 😔 i feel bad knocking the actors bc obviously i’m not one and idk how difficult it is, but the acting from the non-deadites really fell flat for me most of the time :/ the main girl, beth, was so close to mia in looks and attitude it just kept making me think of her which wasn’t good bc i prefer mia LMFAO 😔 the acting from bridget was rlly where i found the movie lacking though :/ some of the shots were def not my type of directing style but i know they’re all call backs to the franchise so i cant knock them too bad but the weird split screen stuff that happened (only 2 times???) was enough for me to text my friend and go “ew” LMAO. i also hated how under utilized the other characters were! the old man, the young guy who maybe had a thing with ellie, the 2 kids. it was rlly obvious they were there to boost the body count to me which sucked :(

also side note beth’s acting rlly annoyed me towards the end especially in the garage with the close ups of her face and her lip twitching but JDNWKDNWJ again thags a personal thing so i’m choosing to ignore it when i rate the movie

the baby stuff w beth was annoying as was the groupie thing but i think that’s just me so i didn’t count it against them hehe. the scene where all of the deadite are telling beth and kassie “dead by dawn” was so fucking cheesy i couldn’t find it in myself to be even a little unnerved which sucked bc i kind of loved the combining scene but it felt lack luster at the end… some of the character decisions were also so ridiculous and i KNOW it’s a movie but guys. stop leaving ur weapons embedded in them. TAKE THEM EITH YOU. PLEASE. i know it wouldn’t have helped but at the end why r u leaving it up to chance??? i also thought the ending scene was a little meh with her not noticing the blood filled parking lot until after she was in her car? idk and to add to that, the opening scene was kind of :/ but i liked the drone fake out they did

i recently rewatched the captain underpants movie, and GOD DAMN!!!!!!!!! this movie so much more good than it was 2 years ago. honestly, the world is so fucked up today, the thing that can make us laugh at times of woe is potty humor. speaking of fucked up world, usually every decade has a sort of culture/general vibe. 60's-70's was peace, 80's was retro (and so was the 90's, just with more advanced technology) 2000's was the beginnings of the internet, so we'd have that pixelated look. and finally the 2010's was about the latest trends. now, 2020's, hah! these are the bad times. the "end times" you could say (haa rwappin joke! see what i did there?) the 2020's is about worrying about the next terrible thing.
