Day 8 Game
Didn't think I'd make it today, did you? Honestly, I was struggling to come up with an idea for today, but then I was talking with my husband about the game jacks and how confusing I find it. So I figured the boys would find it just as confusing.
So you may notice this looks smoother compared to my last week's drawings, that's because it's on bristle paper. Gotta say I love it and plan on making the rest of the drawings on it.
Here's what I made for Game in 2020.

Happy holidays! 2012
VS
Happy holidays 2023
Featuring my magical girl OC Clarisse.
I don't always change that much from a year to the other so I decided to alternate between my 4 oldest OCs, each with a different medium. Last year was with Ariel and watercolors. This year would be the last year where there would be more than a 4 years gap between drawings. Next year will be Julie who I've already redrawn once and it will be with colored pencils.
It's crazy to think that's how I drew back in high-school. Compared to where most teenager are at at this age now... well that's why it's better to compare myself with myself I guess :)
This is 11 years of my progress. It's weird to think about.

Next up on the docket of redrawing old art, this one is @rabbitthewriter 's choice, from 2013!
So this character! Her name is Helena, and she was part of a story called Coloring Medium. The premise, to make a very long story short, is that writing and drawing tools fall into the fictional reality and characters start using them to alter their stories, in the process causing the fictional reality to fall apart (the pen Helena is holding is one such tool). This particular drawing is from the story's climax, when one of the other characters (again, vast oversimplification here) decided to use his tool to turn all of the fictional reality into a copy of his own story and damn the consequences. Hence the blue and black cityscape background!
Aaaand here is the redraw!
For this I had a couple things I knew I wanted to change. Firstly, Helena's design needed to be tweaked, because she is black and her features were very anime white-washed and that wasn't gonna fly. I also wanted to try a little harder to make the background look less flat and uninteresting. And finally, I wanted to make the weird red smudging all over her a little less… vague and random looking. The context is that immediately prior to this she'd found herself in a survival horror setting and was splattered with blood because you know, survival horror.
And here's the two pictures together, 2013 -> 2023
Overall I'm pretty happy with how Helena came out in the redraw! My human art has come a long way in ten years, as has my comfort with dynamic posing and shading. The background I'm not suuuuper happy with, but backgrounds are a pretty consistent weakness of mine that I need to practice more. It does look better than the original, which is still good!

✨10 years ago VS. Present day ✨
It's my dad's birthday today 🥳🎉🎂 He has a collection of camera-themed drawings that he gets from coworkers, art traders and commissioners, so I decided to redraw one I had made for him as a kid for his birthday~
*Drawing context: My OC loves taking blooper photos of people and then uploading them to social media to see how many views he can rack up 😛 Figured it fit the camera theme back when I first made the original drawing, it only made sense to draw it again!

please self, I am begging you. the next time you decide that you absolutely cannot survive another day without the living room rug sitting underneath the front part of the sofa, please please make this decision when I actually have guests over. (like how about YESTERDAY) instead of deciding this while it's just me at home. just me wrestling with a massive sectional sofa (okay it's not that massive because my apartment is not that huge. but it is a sectional with big chunky legs that has to be lifted up to get the rug under it) all by myself.
I got the rug (mostly) where I wanted it but it would've been so much easier with more people.
