I've moved my unfinished Guiding Light Otalia epic from LiveJournal to AO3 for convenience. And because a very sweet person commented on the story on LJ and noted they'd had to create an account just to leave it. I felt terrible about that.

MARYANA (MARIANA AND ANA) IS LIKE OTALIA (OLIVIA AND NATALIA)

So only @xenarulz is old enough to remember the similarities between #Maryana and #Otalia...

The way they fulfill the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers trope.

The way they are roommates, co-workers, and co-parents.

The way they communicated was through touches and intimate conversations.

The way Olivia/Ana becomes a giant cheeseball around Natalia/Mariana.

Olivia is Ana, the older executive mother of two daughters, with blue eyes and money.

Natalia is Mariana, the young scrappy mother (of a teenage boy), with brown eyes and no money.

Emma, Olivia’s younger daughter, is Cecilia, the two most supportive children of both ships. Little Emma wrote a fourth-grade project named "My Two Mommies".

Gus, Natalia’s sweetheart and fiancée, died and his heart ended up being a match for Olivia (as soapy as swapping babies). And Olivia ended up loving Natalia with Gus’ heart beating inside her.

And for those disappointed with Maryana intimate moments, Otalia just shared one fake peck in their long story. USA 2009 vs. México 2022, who did it better?

PS #1: In the most confusing moment, Natalia/Mariana throw themselves to a guy just to avoid the love of their lives. Soapy thing: Natalia even gets pregnant.

PS #2: The names of the characters are also very similar: Olivia/Natalia shared 3 letters, like Ana/Mariana. Even the guys in the middle of both ships share 4 letters: Frank/Ferran.

Goodness. Someone did the Lord‘s work and put up the entire Otalia story on YouTube in 6 handy kickass long videos. That’s a hole I did not expect to fall into again, but boy, it‘s good!

At least once a year I rewatch a lesbian love story and this time I rewatched Otalia and let me tell you. That story had and continues to have me enthralled. I love that story so much. Then I go down a youtube spiral and a fic marathon and then rinse and repeat.

Back when the Bird site was young, was about the time that Otalia was hot. Otalia was the soap ship of Olivia and Natalia on Guiding Light. Two formerly heterosexual women fall in love after moving in together to be mutual aid in some stressful situations. Olivia (played by Crystall Chappell) seen here has a young daughter named Emma Spencer. Emma was the first to notice that she was living in a at least homosocial household - and brike the whole thing wide open by submitting a fourth grade project on "My Two Mommies".

I created a mildly snarky, but definitely super agenty, and totally fourth grade, Twitter account under the name of espencer007. She commented and plotted ways to get her two mommies back together and married for several months. And no one knew it was me.

I have rarely been as proud as when someone memed my secret account.
