Now I appreciate where you are coming from, because yes I think critique of a driver should first and foremost be focused on their driving and overall performance on track. But I do think that personality is a fair thing to consider as it does play a role in how someone works with a team/teammates. Team principals say all the time that this is a consideration.

Now I do think that they are wrong in this assessment. First that there will be a big fight with Lewis is a weird assumption that people are making, yes there will be competition between teammates that is expected but I don't know where this expectation of them being really bad as far as competition between them goes.

Additionally this article says that the main issue with Charles is that he's too nice/sweet to become WDC. HAVE THEY SEEN CHARLES?! You mean track terror Charles? The one who has Helmut Marko having weekly nightmares? The one who was so scary in Austria 2019 that MAX VERSTAPPEN apologized to him in Vegas?

Charles greatest con is successfully making the world believe that he is all smiles and dimples when he is actually just insane and somehow comes out on top in political situations. You think he is number 1 at Ferrari because he's sweet? Really?!??

I think critiquing a driver's attitude and overall mental game approach as well as how they get on with teammates is fair because that is actually part of F1 and does play a role in success as a driver. But they just have it completely wrong here.

Remember that Charles goes from this to this in a matter of 1/100ths of a second

Since the Akademiya's view on the reader is like: Oh divine wisdom judgement so cool or smth like that, they think the reader will on be on their side.

But reader is a theatre kid.

So what do people write F1 fics about? Are there ships? Is it about the races?

Are there ships? Oh you are asking the right questions.

The short answer is yes, some of the literal best rpf ships ever exist in F1. These guys are constantly doing things that have you going "wtf that's the gayest shit I've ever seen in my life"

I cannot explain every ship, but here are a few of my personal favorites

Lestappen - Max Verstappen/Charles Leclerc Childhood rivals to current rivals(who are literally obsessed with each other) This is my F1 main ship, I love these two they are insane. Max is the 3-time world champion and Charles is trying to get the title himself. You might be asking, are they always gazing into each other's eyes like that? And the answer is yes(Charles literally tripped over a cameraman because he was staring at max)

Landoscar - Lando Norris/Oscar Piastri This is a new one. Oscar just became teammates with Lando this year and they have amazing chemistry. A very silly duo, Oscar is blunt and Lando is the most chaotic goofball british himbo you can imagine.

Galex - George Russell/Alex Albon Very good friends, they have grown up in their careers together. There is a whole history of sus moments and they are really supportive of each other. Also George is a walking meme with intense rage behind him, and Alex is the sweetest.

Charlos (also known as C²)- Charles Leclerc/Carlos Sainz They are teammates with Ferrari and get up to some extremely sus behavior. They also just goof around in YT videos. Their teammate dynamic is complex to say the least.

Fics often write about relationships and race/season drama. But there are a ton of aus as well. You will see many other ships as the multi-shipping possibilities are kinda endless. These are a few of my faves, anyone feel free to comment your favorite F1 ship below.

Another thing you see a lot of is wish fulfillment when it comes to certain driver's seasons. Is my fave not doing well this season? well in this fic he got the car of his dreams and is winning. Which is sometimes extremely needed after certain race weekends let me tell you.

The whole thing is just "perla meets the tsme gang (+ kalos gang) and chaos ensues."

I'm still writing the actual timeline, but its getting there.

There's not many changes to the canon, only that there's a few more Perla moments sprinkled here and there.

Some of the lore moments include: (i forgot episode names so have poor descriptions of it)

-first actual alain appearance

Perla only watches on the sidelines, no introduction. She may be an important character but she doesn't want the spotlight. Also implies that this girl knows Alain, maybe as a training buddy or companion.

-Laverre City, the one with the modeling

She is there again, but now running around and like... following orders from the other Furisode girls for the fashion show, with her and Audino carrying boxes of clothes / accessories.

-that one party / ballroom episode

Some random guy: "Ma'am, you're supposed to be wearing a dress for the ocassion."

Perla, already in a suit: "Wait, I am?"

The only way I can describe this. She gets a pass.

-Tournament part 1, bumps into the kalos gang, forced to introduce herself.

It also shows her battling someone, and capable of Mega Evolution. But she's not as strong, so she loses the round.

-Mairin episode

Establishes that these two have met before (Perla acts like a sister figure for Mairin) Also shows a bit more of her personality, that she often comforts people in need.

-the angst episode(s)

It does not end well for her. Remember those dark vines? Something happened with her involved.

content warning -> (It's injury. She got hit pretty hard. Even more fuel to make Alain more conflicted. And Mairin too. Because she lost Chespie to the Giant Rock / Megalith and now she sees Perla, her sister figure, injured.)

-post incident

Surprises everyone she is not dead. And by surprise I mean, walk in while everyone was having the celebration. Ash and the gang are shocked, but TSME duo are more shocked, cause the two were sure they just witnessed a death. So group hug, sobbing, wholesome scenario.

Perla's whole arc:

- Identity.

They are a blank slate, they don't know what to do, they're stuck in this cycle of following people and living like that. Even in battles, she mirrors Alain's battling style (not literally, with the punching and all)

Perla went from being quiet, doing what she's told. But later on, she does her own thing. Like crossdress for one time, willingly join the tournament, show more of her true colors.

Even risk her life to save people. She found that she wants to help everyone. When the world is crumbling down, that's when she acts. Perla does her own thing, that changes their view of her.

The book is just filled with things I adored, and things I'm so glad to have been proven wrong about. I am still listening to the audiobook version, which is simply amazing to get in those emotions once again.

I want the next book in my hands now. I want questions answered. I want so much.

I want to reread it again and again until I have every line engraved behind my eyelids.

Hi! Yes I got you.

F1 tempo - for telemetry, lap times, tyres, DRS, throttle, brakes, and lap deltas. Allows you to compare laps and full race performance. Extremely useful website. This is the main telemetry resource.

F1 race visualizer - for the order of a race, live race replay, to see who was behind who for how long when overtakes occurred etc

Pitwall - for lap times and lap time comparison. I like this better than F1 tempo specifically for lap times, it's easier to use for that.

These are the 3 main resources I use. After that it's about looking at the numbers etc.

I am here to tell you about my newfound Fox Hybrid Charles agenda XD I feel like it fits him so well. He's secretly crazy but smart about it. He's both Cat and Dog coded. And you can't tell me he wouldn't look great with gorgeous red fox ears and that lovely bushy red fox tail. (Also, Ferrari red fox, yes? Yes XD)
