NEED a gf who can explain theme park lore to me

Out of universe:
I just discovered this blog, and I had a question I couldn't find an answer to on the FAQ page. How does this concept compare/differ/relate to SCP?
OOC: Well, I’m definitely inspired by SCP (among other things people have pointed out in the almost 70k notes on the posters post, like Control, Portal, Omega Mart, tumblr user melinoelabs, some others I’m sure I’m not remembering). I’m a fan of SCP, I think a lot of people following me are.
As far as comparisons, there’s definitely a lot of thematic overlap between SCP and OPN, enough that fans of the SCP will probably be fans of this.
That being said, there is no intentional lore/story similarity between SCP and OPN. They are not meant to be in the same universe, and no actual lore characters/features/etc are meant to be in both unless they came from somewhere else first. Aside from very general and basic concepts like “cognitohazards” or “memetics” of course, but I’m sure SCP didn’t really come up with those, just popularized them.
As to how it differs, I can point a few things out from an author’s point of view, so take the following with whatever grains of salt you’re comfortable with.
1) I am, intentionally, building a world that is a little brighter than many settings of the same type. There’s horror and intrigue, absolutely, but there’s fun, and silliness. When brainstorming or sounding-board with my friends and co-writer, I often use the phrase “that’s goofy, but the goofiness is not disqualifying”. I mean, two months ago, an LSD-powered Alice in Wonderland themed AI saved Halloween. There’s a little bit of ambiguity, of course - the intentional clash between the “voice” of Norm who is a fundamentally optimistic person with a bias vs the darker tone of Meghan’s interviews (found in the #interview tag) is something I’m cultivating, but I hope overall it’s clear I’m intending a brighter, less grim dark tone.
2) SCP relies on a lot of wholly original content - SCP-173 did not exist as a concept before it was written, whereas much of my work leans on a basic assumption that every existing myth, legend, or folktale is at least a little bit true. The “kitchen sink” approach. SCP of course does deal with Bigfoot, or fae, or what-have-you, and I have a good chunk of concepts that are wholly original as well. It’s a mostly-true generalization that I do keep to as a design tool. Most of the posters rely on well-known concepts and the ones that don’t can be ascertained from context clues like the etymology of “Ontophage”. This is also a factor in my appreciation of real-world concepts like bureaucracy humor.
Hopefully that answers some questions! Feel free to ask more. I’ll be traveling the next few days so I might be a little quiet, but ooc stuff is a nice change of pace.

there are so many nice people here in vegas but there’s this one person that was really nice and i wish i said goodbye to before i left to go back to the hotel
so i went to omega mart and did all the story shits . HOWEVER , since my mom and brother had to restart [and my mom is slow compared to us] , i ended up losing my group . so i wandered around while calling out for my mom , that’s when i stumbled upon this lady sitting on a seat in a small tucked away area .
this tucked away area had a tv displaying some omega mart lore that i believe is only accessible at omega mart itself , and i sat down in a seat next to her and we both started talking abt the video and the tasty lore . despite her being a stranger , i felt a bit more at ease sitting next to her instead of aimlessly wandering .
she even offered to tell my mom and brother where i was if she ever stumbled upon them , as she already watched the long ass video on the screen . i ended up finding security shortly after she left bc i was getting real anxious .
i never saw her on my way out the door , which is a shame bc i wanted to at least say a small bye bye .
there were also a bunch of other nice people too !! like these guys that helped me while i was trying to go down the stairs despite the fact that i was terrified of heights [those stairs are fuckin STEEP by the way] . even the omega mart employees were really friendly and didn’t mind my small talk and chatter [daikon confirmed to support trans rights !! i wish i adopted one grahhh] . even the uber driver who took us back to the hotel was really nice .
so far , a good trip . i’ll def make more blog posts abt this when i get around to it . just a little bit of late night journaling :]

what's meow wolf? :0
thank you for indulging me, and I'm sorry for the dash stretcher. I simply cannot be asked to be normal anymore ❤️.
my answer to you and the other curious anon:
Meow Wolf is an art collective that operates a handful of immersive exhibits across the western US--House of Eternal Returns in Santa Fe, Omega Mart in Las Vegas, and my closest installation being Convergence Station in Denver. these places are all connected at the core through humor, surreality, psychadelia, and sensation, but can be thoroughly enjoyed as standalone walk-through stories. here's the lore for the place I'm headed to for the 3rd time:
Convergence Station is the result of several universes colliding with ours in an event known as Convergence (wow, shocking title choice). typically, convergences happen an infinite amount of times every day, but only for fractions of time. here in Convergence, memories are currency. when their homeworlds converged, people lost entire lifetimes worth of memories, and began to realize they were still out there in other people's heads. these memories (or mems) could be transferred between individuals via technology utilizing a special crystal known as Oss or via randomly occuring "memory storms." a single, stable convergence appears to have occurred in Denver, mounting the worlds of...
Eemia, a once-thriving world suffering the loss of one of its two suns under threat of eternal ice age
Tumblr media
Ossuary, a sparsely populated planet of individuals living underground to escape catastrophic magma flows to preserve and amass hoards of knowledge
Tumblr media
Immensity (specifically, C-Street), the concrete shell of urban sprawl constructed over an ocean planet's waves to suppress violent fauna
Tumblr media
and Numina, an anomalous 5th-dimensional being that inhabits this alien swamp-like ecosystem where time forgot to clock in
Tumblr media
...all within its reach.
lore aside, I swear this place is a fucking pocket universe. It looks like about the size of a small concert venue from the streets, but it's delightfully easy to get lost in here. almost every door works. maybe you open a door in Numina and end up in Eemia. maybe you walk through a curtain of snakes and end up in a room full of Mongolian masks. maybe you pull a little too hard on the detergent vending machine at the C-Street laundromat and open the wall to a satanic laundry shrine.
Tumblr media
the artists behind all of their installations, way down to even individually sculpted creatures living in the swampy walls of Numina, are listed on their website.
Convergence Station is their biggest permanent installation yet, and two more are planned for Dallas and Grapevine, TX.
I am happily evangelizing this place at every chance I can get, because honest to Gods my therapist said it appeared to have set off trip integration in my brain like I had actually taken drugs. if you're like me and have been starved for inspiration for a while and feeling creatively stagnant, consider following the artists in the credits, checking out their YouTube (seriously high quality worldbuilding for Omega Mart in particular), or even making a trip to one of these spots.

omega mart was so so so so so so fucking cool. already looking forward to going back holy shit. the storyline was really interesting and every exhibit was absolutely fantastic. the only room i didn't go in was the strobe light room for headache reasons but everything else was just breath taking. the level of detail for each character and each exhibit and the way they wove the plot through each little piece i mean. holy shit. no plot spoilers but marin was my favorite character and my favorite details were the pictures she drew that were hanging up in charlie's garage (such a sweet & intimate detail...). or the personal items at cecelia's desk. i feel so inspired after going! already looking forward to next time, i'm going straight to [redacted] at 7 monolith village to look through all the unspecified personal documents there... other exciting discoveries include the phone adventure and the alternate script they developed for some truly excellent deep lore.
my only complaints would be the price & the fact that it was fairly busy when we went and a lot of the people there were not as engaged as we were. many of the exhibits are quite small with only one rfid point so we couldn't just sit there for 45 minutes reading marin's blog for example without annoying the other attendees. understandable because they also paid to be there but you can't hand me an alternate script painted on canvas scrolls and hand written journals and corporate powerpoints and poetry and a thousand little unique pieces of writing and expect me to just gloss over it all 😭 incredible that people were just blasting right through. one person we talked to said people will be there under an hour and just leave like.... how. we were there almost 7 hours and there's so much still left to see.
the staff were all sooooo nice too and knowledgeable about how to offer help without spoiling any of the mystery. might go with a notebook or something next time to jot down lore notes & observations... my partner had a great time too :) it was a really lovely experience all around. gotta save a little bit to go back but after 7 hours i'd say i got my money's worth & then some. sort of crazy being inside these spaces & being able to interact with and touch all of this wonderfully intricate handmade art. you can really see the love in all the intimate little details.

so Otherworld Philly is open and idk, I'll probably go visit it... it looks kind of Meow Wolf-y, though I don't know if they go hard on story like Meow Wolf does. (my guess is no? but some of the talk about puzzles and interactive theater has me wondering...)
part of me is like "oh if I'm gonna go all the way out to northeast philly, maybe I should go with a friend" but part of me is like "if it's anything like meow wolf, no human should be exposed to me while I'm experiencing it."
(for the uninitiated, when I went to Meow Wolf's House of Eternal Return and Omega Mart, I stayed at each one for like... six to eight hours to consume literally as much lore as I could before I simply collapsed from hunger. lmao)

IRIS Meow Wolf inspiration attraction idea?
so recently i have been watching Meow Wolf content including Food Theory videos of one of Meow Wolf’s attraction; Omega Mart. And something clicked in my mind for an idea for a Meow Wolf attraction. So, if you see the title as anyone know from the Jacksepticeye community, last year on Halloween he released the IRIS Project livestream. This was a project that took 6 years in the making. During the livestream people using the chat to solve puzzles and codes, and some parts of the livestream revealed lore, etc. But...the problems, some parts of the livestream were getting technical issues (originally it was going to be a week-long thing for the livestream) so Sean decided to give us the entire livestream.
But towards the end of the livestream Sean decided to put the end in a separate video due to technical issues once more. The end video that Sean put in another video gave us the reveal of the return of our favorite Glitch demon turtle Antisepticeye (ALTR 114209) Back to the topic, so for a IRIS Meow Wolf inspiration attraction, there can be locations/secret locations from the trailer, the livestream, Anomaly Found (the shorter version of the livestream), other locations, etc. (There are a lot of locations from location options that i mentioned and also looked up as well for research as well for notes that you can also look up as well.) It's like the different locations/secret locations within Meow Wolf attraction(s) that you would go to. There can puzzles, codes, documents, lore, etc in an IRIS Meow Wolf attraction just like you would find when you go to a Meow Wolf attraction.
Here are some idea examples that someone thought of from a Discord server:
-For one of the rooms in a Meow Wolf IRIS attraction, we'll have what looks to be a distorted sector or hallway of IRIS. It's gonna look like it was ensnared by some glitchy, vivid ALTR. In an area of this distorted and messed up sector, you'll find a trippy hallway that has red, blue, and green triangles coiled around it, like that one painting frame hallway from the LA Van Gogh immersive experience. -This hallway leads to a house. More specifically, we'll make it a memory version, because this is a special house, AND Meow Wolf is a family friendly thing. In a bedroom, you'll find drawings on a table. What's the drawing of? A family. Who's family is it? Chase Brody's family.
-I was also thinking we could do a room like this, where you have to press buttons on the walls in a certain order, and if you do, you can pick up a small telephone at the back wall with the screens, and once you do it activates and plays a scene which would reveal some lore about IRIS
Tumblr media
Y'KNOW, JUST LIKE THE LIVESTREAM!
So what do you think for an IRIS Meow Wolf inspiration attraction. Would you pay to go see it for something like that? You can put your thoughts including ideas in the comments below. I would love to see about your thoughts and ideas. Also have you been to a Meow Wolf attraction(s) if so which one(s)? you can put them in the comments below as well.

visited omega mart in las vegas this past week and it was amazing. i spent 4 hours exploring nearly every nook and cranny and only got through one ending of the branching storyline before i became fatigued and hungry. if anyone visits, my first tip is to definitely eat a substantial meal beforehand because i easily could have spent 4 more hours there and not experience everything.
for those not in the know, omega mart is an immersive art installation by meow wolf that employs role playing, flavor text, and arg elements to deliver story and lore. your effort to explore is equivalent to what you get. the "storefront" is a grocery store with surreal and absurd products and one of the refrigerator doors (among other entry points) leads to a "portal" of other rooms, which include a conspiracy board office, the factory and headquarters of the corporation that owns the grocery store, a declining village in the middle of the desert, and a secret bar. i heard mw is also planning to expand but i'm not sure if that's true. you also get the option of buying a "boop" card that grants you "employment", but it's just a nifty tool that enables you to go deeper into the story and isn't necessary to have a good experience.
i won't spoil the plot too much. it's fairly simple once you get the picture and very familiar to fans of properties like welcome to night vale in the sense that it lives on finding the surreal, ominous, and uncanny in the mundane. but the magic is really in its attention to details of its worldbuilding and characters. for example one of my favorite flavor texts can be found when you go to the headquarters office and snoop through the staff's computers, in which you'll discover this spreadsheet of collected gossip that tells you plenty on how the individual members viewed each other and their bosses.
the staff is also fabulous. everyone has their own cultivated background and really plays along with you when you interact with them. i had a conversation with the butcher and he kept trying to sell me two dimensional cold cuts in the shape of my head every time i passed by him until i finally told him i was only interested in 4d meats.
also i bought this radish friend from the grocery store (you can buy the actual products from it) and i love him

I'm like "woah I should make omega mart ocs because it was so cool and the lore was super interesting!" And my brain goes "No. You're going to draw band fanart. And when you try drawing those oc ideas it'll make you cry because you can't visualize your ideas properly. Fuck you."
