I think I know the reason Pipsqueak is failing to thrive is because of Navel ill. They hatched with a bit of their navel unhealed which isn't terribly uncommon with chicks as they heal and fluff up and I did notice Pipsqueak's wasn't healed when they hatched. Typically I leave chicks be and they heal on their own with no problem but now I'm thinking I should perhaps preemptively spray an antibacterial or use iodine on the area to prevent possible infection. Their's healed but bacteria still could have got in and caused an infection. That's likely what happened with Omlette as well because if I remember correctly they also had a bit of unhealed navel at hatch and a symptom of that is being filled with putrid yolk. If yall remember Omlette was filled with gross fluid and raging Navel infection could have been the cause of the organ break down. Obviously with both of them it closed up but they are showing the same symptoms. Unfortunately Navel ill is usually fatal. Some chicks have recovered before with close monitoring of temperature and electrolytes in the water which I already do with sick chicks. I think the reason I didn't realize before is the pictures of Navel Ill, Mushy chick syndrome, ect usually show pictures of a swollen very unhealed navel when it can happen to any sort of unhealed navel and might not swell up with chicks as small as my micros.

I what I can do in the future is I'll be dabbing iodine on unhealed navels as a precaution. While my broodies tend to have hygienic nests I think I think will start offering different bedding close to hatch to help keep it even more clean.
