One of the things I love most about actual play shows is that you can’t necessarily guess what will happen next, because the collaborative, improvisational, randomness of the medium makes it so it is truly unpredictable on a micro scale, if not a macro one.

I read a LOT as a kid, and through that gained a very good understanding of tropes and narrative structures work as well as common plot threads. I can almost always guess what will happen next in games, mainstream television shows, movies, books. But actual play shows keep me guessing until the last second, when the whole thing inevitably wraps up in a beautiful bow and is delivered directly to my doorstep.

I love actual play as a medium of storytelling truly so so much

i'm re-watching episode 75 of critical role campaign 2 the one where Marisha Ray has to play her own character and Liam O'Brien's in the same game, and honestly the amount of times she has said the word ja in a sentence you can honestly make a drinking game about it.

i had forgotten how freaking hysterical this episode is, I never laughed so hard in my entire life.

also , it is hilarious how unbalanced the group becomes without Caleb when it comes to a plan of action. It's just poor Fjord sitting there as the lone voice of reason. As everything goes off the rails it is a miracle how the mighty nein come out of the encounter with the dragon unscathed.

sam reigel made me laugh so hard when he said he couldn't tell the difference between marisha's voice for beau and caleb german ( Zemnian accent.)

terrible teen romcom where falen is the dark edgy brooding (but also cool and popular) dude who secretly has ✨trauma✨ and the guardians are the group of idiots who befriend/fall in love with him (also at first it is not entirely clear who the love interest is)

plot is maeri finds out she's half siblings with torva family and so takes steps towards getting to know them (mostly falen, because he's the only one in their age range who isn't terrible to them)(coughs orestes), and the rest of the guardians stick with her for emotional support (and also because he's really hot and they want to be friends and like wdym of course they're not gonna pass up an opportunity to hang around this guy)

probably halfway through it shifts from maeri & falen bonding + tension between falen and the guardians to falen and fran are crushing on each other but need to be forced to do anything about, and all of their friends have no boundaries and are absolutely willing to bully them into getting together
