We watched this female jaguar resting during midday heat (40+ degrees). Suddenly, a massive male jaguar jumped out of the bushes. The female's adrenaline kicked in and her pupils turned blue for a second, as you can see on the shots.

小春ちゃんのお別れ会でした。ジャガー池にお魚が振舞われました。親子ふたりで夢中になって取ってた。びしょびしょになったあとは吊るされたおもちゃで遊びまくってテンション高かった。飼育員さんによると小梅母さんのほうがよく遊んでたそうです。正直どっちがどっちかよくわからないので全部のせちゃう。寂しくなるけど、これで楽しく遊べたらお母さん大丈夫そうだね。小春ちゃん、元気でね😭

There was a farewell party for KOHARU the jaguar's daughter as she was moving. Gift of fishes were given to their pond, and they were happily eating together. KOUME the mother was the one playing with the suspended toys. Thanks to these, they won't feel lonely. Goodbye KOHARU!😭

getting emotional over this painting of p. onca mesembrina. someone, sometime, perceived this gigantic beautiful thing. someone saw this gorgeous cat, alive, and they saw it was red. these people were intimately familiar with other jaguar subspecies, so much so as to leave for us drawings of yellow jaguars as well. this was not a mistake. they knew that yellow jaguars were yellow, and they knew damn well that the giant jaguar, mesembrina, was red. how lucky we are to see such a magnificent animal through the eyes of our ancestors. what a beautiful gift those long dead people have given us, to show us something about this creature we could have never known otherwise; it was red.
