Selective breeding in plants is equally cool and important as it is in animals, this fall thank the indigenous people of the Americas for domesticating these bad boys

If you ever wondered what the best living vertebrate is, it’s the alligator gar in my totally not biased 100% scientifically backed opinion. They are just a flawless creature. Nothing wrong with them. Good tooth to snoot ratio, they have a winning smile.

They and other monster fish absolutely should NOT be in the hands of most private keepers at all and I do NOT support morph breeding of them because of that, but pretty fishy cute :c

do you know what the deal is with this weird squirrel? we have a lot of black squirrels in the park nearby but ive never seen one like this before. symmetrical pattern, its other side looked the same.
Tumblr media
Eastern grey squirrels are funky! Here are oddly colored individuals on my favorite iNaturalist group, they seem to be the most commonly reported species. Melanistic ones don’t always come in pure black, they can be very interesting like the one you saw!

hi! sorry to impose, but is there a general tag I could blacklist for animals that have some kind of deformity, illness, or other harmful or disfiguring conditions? e.g. the rabbit with papilloma virus, the cougar with teeth growing out of its head. great blog btw! thank you!
Absolutely! I can’t find my rabbit post, but I think I tagged it as #animal illness ? #Animal injury will be for ones that are harmed. Would it be appropriate to tag #animal deformity? I know for humans tagging deformity for blacklists is not very nice, does that apply for animals? Does anyone have ideas for a general one, or would those three cover potentially distressing images?

Dark points are my absolute favorite coloration in ANY animal, this is what peak performance looks like
I’m glad you guys like Poptart! You guys are lucky my beetles are all typical colored for their species otherwise I’d spam you with pics of them too.
Anyone have any fun pics of their interesting colored/patterned/etc pets for me to look at? Even ‘normal’ types are interesting!

Yes! Poptart is a palmetto, which is a funky form of leucism where instead of going piebald in the patchy way it presents as so high white all that’s left is flecks of color! Fun fact, this morph was found in the wild! Also they used to cost like 8,000 bucks a pop.

If you go to iNaturalist, and look for great white sharks, there is a sighting and a series of photos in Turkish waters, in northwest turkey right below Bulgaria, of a piebald specimen
