One Piece Chapter 1081 [Spoilers] Reminder-Law has cheated Death and Lost his home: Thrice!

I knew it was coming; I was hoping for a miracle. But this is the finale, we are going to lose more people! The stakes are high, our final contenders to One Piece are moving closer to their goal! But as Trafalgar Law fan, I was not ready to see him lose!

Paulo Coelho had warned me, Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time, yet I was not ready!

True, “The weak don’t get to choose how they die”! And Bepo made sure that Law didn’t get to die today. Bepo bet his life and went on to challenge Blackbeard! I respect him and again it set’s another example how each and every first mate has been loyal and that’s how they saved their captains! Zoro on Thriller Bark, Killer on Elbaf, and Bepo on Winner Island! A captain will survive when it’s crew will sacrifice itself!

Law will hate this; he has the captain’s burden to bare, pride of his crew on his shoulders and honour of the dead to carry! And yes, weak as he may be right now, he really didn’t get to choose his death. Trafalgar D Water Law will not die today, but for now he has been eliminated like Kid from the final race to One Piece.

Law lost his home! For the third time! His island and family are gone, Corazon and foster Doffy family is gone. His crew and ship was a family and home he built over 13 years! A ship which was a gift to him from a friend. He lost it all!

Losing a ship means you have been defeated and your spine cracked! What’s a pirate without a ship? After Merry Go and Thousand Sunny, Polar Tang was my favourite ship. I loved it for it’s cool design, utility, and absolutely fun colour. Law has a career ending blow, but he will survive.

Law will survive, he will be depressed again, he will hate himself again, but he will come back, he might not get the opportunity to avenge his crew the way he will want too! But he will survive, and he will get his answers to the questions he carries!

There is a purpose he has to serve, and my fears for his future is worse. That devil fruit he carries; it definitely offers something more than eternal youth. If it can cure an incurable disease like Amber Lead Syndrome, that means it can cure other things too. And a certain someone has already lost twenty years to a drug when he tried to save his brother.

I just can’t help but notice how Law has cheated Death thrice! If Law was a cat; he would have six more lives to spend! And out of which their is a high possibility the last life might get spent on saving the only D that matters in this universe. But for now that’s a thought I hope doesn’t come to fruition!

Why am I so sympathetic to Law but not Kid?

I think why my reaction to Kid getting pulverised and Law getting butchered are so different, is because it’s very simple!

Rule of familiarity.

We have known Shanks since day one of One Piece! Shanks has always been the reliable guy and Kid was introduced to us as being reckless killer. Blackbeard too has been the bad guy since his introduction while we as readers have spent a decade with Law!

I am more invested in Law! I have seen his struggles, ups and downs and what he is capable off!

With Kid it has always been a distanced and tinted pov. Shakky introduced him to Strawhat as a worst generation who killed people to have higher bounty than Luffy. Then when three of them met, Kid picked fight with Law and Lu!

It was fun watching Kid get beaten up by Shanks! But obviously with Law it was different emotions; because we know him better!

Let it be a reminder!

Defeating Blackbeard and Shanks is not going to be easy! Kaido was the trial round for Luffy, and it took him 5 battles! And the biggest issue with Luffy’s future opponents Blackboard and Shanks is not the difference of power but the difference of planning. Luffy though he has matured a bit; is still a punch first talk later boy. As for Blackbeard and Shanks, they have been playing chess of survival for all these years!

Kaido, Big Mom, Doffy, or anyone Luffy has fought previously has always underestimated him; until Charlotte Katkuri! Luffy is an Emperor of the Sea! Neither Blackbeard or Shanks will give him the half-hearted treatment of toying with a rookie!

Yes Lu is a God, but still a rookie! And next two opponents are people who don’t always rely on strength but brains all the time! They both have planned and plotted to reach this far! It will not be easy!

I think chapter 1081 establishes the final journey to One Piece for Luffy has begun.

Law raging at Luffy post Winner Island because, at his worst, he can’t help feeling that it’s unfair that he keeps losing everything over and over and over again while luffy seems able to succeed in everything he sets his mind to, despite going into things without a plan and picking fights that should be beyond him. And yes, he was there when Luffy lost Ace, and yes, he knows how much it affected him, but still, what does Luffy know, what is one person compared EVERYONE, over and over and OVER again

and Law knows it’s not fair, that he shouldn’t compare trauma and Luffy helped him before and is helping him again now, without asking anything of Law he isn’t willing to give (not that he has anything to offer at this point, he doesn’t even have his HAT) but he was there when Luffy got his other brother back, and he doesn’t understand how Luffy keeps gaining people, while he can’t do anything but lose them, despite his best efforts

(and of course he wouldn’t wish anything like that on luffy, but it’s Just Not Fair)

chapter 1081 spoilers—okay, angst is fun and all but...

Shachi literally means orca in Japanese. Ikkaku means narwhal. They can dive deep (Narwhals, deeper than most submarines go, I think) and survive. Penguins are pretty good underwater for a while (though I don't know about depth). The ocean is the home of sea urchins and sea angels (Uni and Clione). And have we forgotten how hardcore Penguin and Shachi went here?:

Now, I don't know about snow geese, but we'll give Hakugan some magical properties. So while it is heartbreaking that the Polar Tang

will no longer sail the seas (and, yeah, the boys had had it forever, but this is the sub's own Going Merry moment, perhaps), I think we should believe Bepo here:

Bepo urges Law not to die, but the Hearts will continue to overcome. I don't know that they'll be captured either, but they must've almost escaped because Jean Bart was on land, right? In chapter 1064:

where Law urges Penguin and Shachi into the water. The Hearts are fine, but I understand the angst (it's glorious, isn't it?!). I think Law's worried, obviously, but I also think he picked his crew and mode of transport for a reason beyond just remaining hidden.

Although, the Wiki says they don't know what happened to it after Bonney was captured by Blackbeard way back when, but in Egghead Jinbei does ask her:

where her ship and crew is. She states that her ship (which might be the Jewelry Margherita) was eaten by the monsters (controlled by Lilith, right?) outside of Egghead, and that she came alone.

The wiki says: (according to Vivre Card - One Piece Visual Dictionary (Card #0511), Information about Bonney is revealed), that:

Bonney seems to prioritize her own safety over her crew's as she managed to escape Marine detainment but chose not to rescue her subordinates.

That's stark contrast to Law, and we've mostly seen her operate alone, but I'm not gonna believe the Vivre cards just yet.

Also, Kid's obviously alive if Law is and if their losses were similar in wording and visuals. I think Kid's crew have saved him, if not Shanks' crew.

BUT, once Law recovers, he'll not be sequestered in a cell for ten years before he becomes relevant again (poor Kid. Damn!).

As @purplehairedwonder pointed out, the Polar Tang was carrying Law's poneglyph copies, and I bet that the crew is carrying them. Hope so. He'd be wise enough to have them waterproofed. BUT it makes more narrative sense to have them destroyed.

Now, someone was talking about how a Klabautermann is only seen when a ship is doomed (this wikipedia article supports it, but that's as far as my sources go) and therefore they didn't include images/stories/prompts about it for the Polar Tang. I can't remember who it was! Ahh, well it seems that the Klabautermann of various ships have been very busy lately.

Kuzan, too. Kuzan is cool (haha). I'm glad we saw him. And the dialogue with the Blackbeard pirates and Kuzan. OH, I almost forgot, this angst:

where Blackbeard taunts Law with the fact (yes, fact!) that there are a hundred pirates on Pirate Island still without their hearts, due to Law, and BB would be thrilled to punish Law for the fact, can't help but stir the whump-writer's heart (I'm sorry, Law).

AND, Koby and Law were in cahoots in some way, I'm sure of it (probably be disproven). Something similar to Luffy and Smoker at Alabasta, perhaps? Anyway.

Side note, do you think that Chopper used Caesar Clown's science and ego to help produce the rumble-ball like power-up he gave Bepo? If so, I wonder if this will come to play in the future when Caesar and Judge enter the fray again, if they do.

So the earliest possible air date is August 31st. Knowing Toei, it may take a couple more weeks.

Bandai Spirits has Law, Teach and Bepo merches scheduled for late September. I assume they'll release after/around the time the conclusion episode airs? Not sure if there's any relation between the two since the figures are not spoilery. No Bepo update, unfortunately, gotta wait for the next Jump Festa in December for new figure previews..

IMO the episode won't be delayed beyond mid-September. Grab your tissues and get ready 😌

Working on the idea of Inherited Rage, as opposed to Will, when it comes to Law. Because if I were to lose everything and everyone I care about not once, not twice, but three times??? I’d be losing it.

And of course, I’m operating on this like it’s generational trauma. The pain of Law’s current life coupled with the pain of persecution his ancestors went through.

Since I find it interesting that his family hid their names like the Nefertari while families like Monkey and Jaguar didn’t fall in this category. Were the Trafalgar persecuted for something they did more so than Monkey and Jaguar? (probably overthinking this, though)

Point being, Inherited Rage lol

I know that him being furious to the point of killing one of BB’s crewmates would absolutely be against his characterization as a doctor and as the son of doctors. I know. But I need some form of retribution coming from him and not anybody else (Luffy).

I’m trying to cope so hard lol I’m sorry. I need some raw fury from Law that I don’t think Oda would have the time to expand on.

i keep seeing that video about the polar bear that kept swimming for 9 days without stopping (which is just objectively sad in a “the polar ice caps are melting and animals are loosing their natural habitats” sense) and making myself even more sad thinking about Bepo swimming with the injured Law on his back (the brain rot is real)
