One Day Until OneFest and More
On a sweltering Thursday that hit 93 degrees Fahrenheit and high humidity, some local activities still proceeded. The Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds were being prepared for OneFest, the Christian music festival that has become an annual staple after the Fair leaves town. And even in the peak heat, Main Street’s Farmers Market was busy today. The weekend will bring many summer events to the…

OneFest, Award-winning festival and non-profit talent development organisation, and Shabaka Hutchings, leader of the British jazz vanguard, have announced a panel titled ‘Mental health in Music Vs Horse racing – Let’s keep the conversation going’. This will take place at EartH, during the daytime programme of the London leg of the ‘Twin city festival’ on 14th March 2020. OneFest advocate Grant Hutchison added“It's vital that the conversation around mental health in music continues and that real initiatives are adopted to bring change to the way the industry currently reacts to these issues.” The session will be chaired by chaired by journalist and author John Robb, who will lead a lively discussion with panellists SKShlomo (Artist), Jack Williamson (Music & You), Michael Caulfield (Racing Psychologist), Chris McCourt (Warner Records), Joe Hastings (Help Musicians), OneFest’s own Shabaka Hutchings and Sandra Bhatia, plus a Jockey and more TBA.

The discussion will take a look at the similarities and pressures from the music and racing industries and what insights and learnings can be taken from the horse racing industry. “I am interested to explore the model used in the racing world and see how that might fit in to the music industry to give people working in it a safety net to fall into when they need it.” Grant Hutchison OneFest advocate Johnny Marr said “Mental health is a long overdue priority in our society. Initiatives by organisations such as OneFest are setting an agenda to bring the issue out in the open and create a new attitude so we can all help each other and be helped.” Each OneFest venue in London and Sheffield will host adaytime programme of talks and workshops, chaired by journalist and author John Robb and musicians and industry insiders such as Ahnansé (Steam Down),SK Shlomo, Joe Hastings (Help Musicians), Ross Gautreau (Fairwood Music), Chris McCourt (Warner Music),Michael Caulfield,Bang Bang Romeo, Orphy Robinson, Thomas Haywood (Blinders) and Skinny Pelembe, aimed at educating aspiring young music industry professionals across the North-South divide, partnered by Ivors Academy. what is the most rarest Akagi/Kaiji/Fkmt merch or product out there?
THATS actually a really tough one as there's an insane amount of stuff with very little info so i'll run down a list, no particular order again:
1. The akagi plushes have plenty of people who own them and plenty of info on them, but they're so sought after that it's incredibly hard to find for under ~200$
2. The akagi flashing keychain (that post is going up this week), and i guess by extension other official akagi keychains based on the anime that came out around a similar time. For the first mentioned item though, I could only find two people who talked about it and they linked to a dead, unarchived online shop.
3. The 3M Kaiji figure, it's insanely hard to find any info at all on and I can't even confirm that 3M made it, as I only saw their name attributed to him once in a random blog post , it appeared at a Onefest. It was sold, and i've only seen one blog user who had it.
4. on the note of figures, figures based on season 1 of kaiji by who might be "movic" that were planned and went up for preorder but were cancelled while the preorders were happening (I have an old patron exclusive post on my dive on this as I didn't want to do a full article until I had all the answers, but I haven't found any new info in forever so i'll probably just go for it soon)
5. Probably just early anime merch in general that was sold in physical stores, there's so much of it that just occasionally pops up and has so little info on it because it was before the era of people reporting on every anime merch release. though some of these things from this era are more hard to find info on than actually find.
6. An entire line of merch that just fucking disappeared including shirts, keychains, pillows, bags, baby clothes with hyoudous face on it, and even MORE announced "figures" that only had (in progress) next to, I have another patron exclusive post as I was researching this one, but in this case I did just give up on solving the mystery and a more polished article on what's known is in the queue. it was a line of goods that was only around for a few years then went silent.
7. Mobile games: From 2003-6 old flip phone games (which I have both existing posts, queued posts, and, of course, patron exclusive research updates) to many more modern apps, there's so much lost media here. 8. The washizu/HERO merch that came from a giveaway promoting the works when they came out. I mentioned the 3DS cover in an earlier post, and that alone only had 10 that were given out.
9. Pachinko merch, especially for much older machines. I always find the most random stuff that I've never heard of nor could find much info for specifically made to promote machines, such as this Kaiji fan or this Washizu nail care kit (???)
10. These Zero cards I have never seen them for sale like anywhere

The Roundhouse show was something we won't forget in a hurry! We can't thank Radio X's John Kennedy enough for recommending us to Frank Turner who was at our soundcheck and the side of the stage as we went on. Both Seth Lakeman and Frank Turner were stunning and we were honoured to open for them.

OneFest announces ‘The North South Divide ‘Bridging the Gap’ panel discussion & cancellation of Sheffield evening event
Tumblr media
The original, award-winning social conscience festival, OneFest has announced a pivotal panel discussion titled ‘North South Divide: Bridging The Gap’. At the same time, OneFest is announcing the cancellation of the evening event in Sheffield. OneFest co-founder Sandra Bhatia said “As one of the first social conscience festivals, we decided to have a twin city festival celebrating both London and the North in the city of Sheffield, with day and night programmes to really add value across the border, join the dots and build bridges. So it is with great sadness that we have to cancel the evening show in Sheffield, as the ticket sales have been slower than expected. All tickets will of course be refunded. We will still run the daytime programme at the Leadmill with showcases, panels, workshops, advisory sessions and networking to support young musicians and industry hopefuls in the North - including the North/South divide panel which explores the barriers for progression in music, which this decision exemplifies. The London programme is unchanged.” OneFest London will also host an inspired evening programme of music featuring showcases from emerging talent and special one-off collaborations curated by Shabaka Hutchings, with members of the cohort and the best emerging and established British talent including Steve Williamson & String Ting (Tomorrow’s Warriors), Leafcutter John, Ill Considered & Nat Birchall and Okumu, Herbert, Skinner Triowith Byron Wallen. Journalist, author and musician John Robb will chair a dynamic discussion examining the North/South musical divide from Yorkshire’s perspective and exple existing disconnections and differences, whilst embracing potential opportunities and solutions. OneFest aims to come up with solutions to what many see as a divide that has long been a major obstruction culturally and financially in the UK. John Robb said “The UK is a small country, but have we become two nations divided by a common language? Is there a cultural, business, financial North/South divide and how do we bridge it? Can music be the healer, the empowerer of broken towns and cities across the north? How can the south help and be involved with this? How can great talent be allowed to go to waste? How can the north and south learn to communicate with each other better and work to their mutual advantage? All these questions and more will be addressed on the panel, I can’t wait to get cracking.” OneFest speakers and musicians Bang Bang Romeo added "We come from mining villages in the North and making music has always felt like an outlet and opportunity to break away from the norm, but opportunities can sometimes be limited. Working mens' clubs are closing down, as well as some of the bigger more established venues. We love travelling for our work but find we are in London, almost weekly, for gigs, workshops and networking events. There is so much talent across the UK and having more localised hubs for industry bodies/companies could bring people together up and down the country and keep costs down for young bands trying to build their networks.  Chi Onwurah MP for Newcastle Upon Tyne Central and OneFest supporter said “Britain is a creative powerhouse and the world listens to the music we create. But increasingly the barriers young, Northern, black and working class musicians face make breaking into a challenging industry almost impossible and our voices are lost. The work OneFest are doing to provide opportunities for more diverse musicians is really important if we are not to find ourselves a one note nation.” Each OneFest venue in London and Sheffield will host a daytime programme of talks and workshops, chaired by journalist and author John Robb and musicians and industry insiders aimed at educating and providing networking opportunities for aspiring young music industry professionals across the North-South divide, partnered by Ivors Academy.  Saturday 7thMarch:OneFest Sheffield The Leadmill 6 Leadmill Rd, Sheffield S1 4SE Day £12.50 https://theleadmill.seetickets.com/tour/shabaka-hutchings-onefest Saturday 14thMarch:OneFest London EartH 11-17 Stoke Newington Rd, Dalston, London N16 8BH Day £15, Night £22, Full £30 (Day) https://rockfeedback.seetickets.com/event/shabaka-hutchings-one-fest-daytime/earth/1470425 (Night) https://rockfeedback.seetickets.com/event/shabaka-hutchings-one-fest/earth-evolutionary-arts-hackney/1394991?fbclid=IwAR06mmverUKukOCy-s9ZVUXBHz7fKOECb9mC3nYTkuFbdjPav8KqfzJWwGQ Read the full article
