I used to have a really hard time bringing up the fact that I graduated from high school a year late without feeling the need to explain why and insisting that it wasn't my fault while simultaneously kicking myself for how much I sounded like I was just making excuses for something I should take responsibility for.
Then I watched Dimension 20's "The Seven" and suddenly I could simply say that I was a super senior.
The first time I heard the phrase "super senior" was in reference to Antiope Jones, a Black girl who had been held back a year after getting kidnapped and imprisoned by members of a fundamentalist cult, and like, girl, same.
So, since then, instead of anxiously spinning out any time I tried to tell a personal high school anecdote, I could just say I was a super senior, and then my brain would auto complete that statement with "like Antiope Jones" and I'd feel good about myself because Antiope Jones Is That Bitch.
That's what the problem had been the whole time. I wasn't worried about how other people would perceive me; I had been struggling with how I perceived myself.

Now with MORE BONUS TRAUMA! (brace yourself haha; Teeth CW)#it's important to me that Antiope is tall because the effects of the isolation and neglect were so pervasive that they stunted my growth#I'm of reasonable height for an adult at first glance (5'3) but I would have been a hell of a lot closer to 6'2 that's for damn sure#if you stare at me for too long I start to look like an animated scale model of a much taller person (because I kinda am lol)#everything about me is teensy except for my absolutely massive teeth#I had to get four extracted because they couldn't all fit#not wisdom teeth just four straight up regular healthy adult teeth had to be extracted due to a painful lack of space for teeth that big#I'm not sure if my teeth are the only thing that grew to normal size or if they're extra big because of some other pituitary fuckery#and yeah being tiny isn't that weird but people have always made a big deal about just how weirdly tiny I am#like kids younger than me used to carry me around like a doll#and now decades later I've learned about Psychosocial Short Stature and it all makes sense haha oop#anyways#told you shit's fucked

Hang on thought about pastry arts school again
#like. why and HOW did i go through 2 full years of college and not graduate with an associates#how did they get away with stringing me along for 1.5+ years as a pastry arts major with no pastry chef#the one pastry class i did have when i met the pastry chef before he quit. it was like. taunting#bc it wasnt extremely new info to me it was baking 101. but the chef was such an amazing teacher#and i was so excited to learn from him#and i cant blame him at all for quitting like bro i wouldn't wanna work there either !!!!#they couldn't hire another pastry chef for almost 2 years bc NO ONE WANTED TO WORK FOR THE PROGRAM HEAD#i know of 2 separate stories where one chef in the area wanted to get into teaching and then heard who the boss chef was and said oh nvm 😬#and one chef who got hired and then quit before he could start bc he couldn't stand to work with that man#like i Know the food service industry is tough and intense and chefs have a reputation for being jerks#i Know that. and multiple people warned me of that before i started. and sometimes im like wow i was wrong i couldn't actually handle it#everyone told me i couldn't handle it and i said yes i could and then i couldn't#but is that really what happened???? bc there were other jerk chefs in that school!! and still no one could stand that ONE MAN!!!!!#we literally complained to the president of the college. and she said uwu hes doing his best 🥺#bc thats the thing with him. you think hes nice until you're in the kitchen with him. he IS nice until youre in the kitchen with him#i truly think he designed the course in order to weed out the weak ones#and ig it worked bc so many people dropped out !!!!! but like . sir. i started that program at 17 years old#a fully prepared 17 year old. a smart 17 year old. a talented 17 year old. an eager and excited 17 year old. but a 17 year old#we were learning how to COOK not DISARM BOMBS. i hope hes glad that my 17-19 year old self got weeded out for being weak.#congratulations man you broke me.#literally he gave me the worst panic attack of my life on the first day and was so mean to me bc of my anxiety and how shy i was#to the point that i finally admitted i needed to go to the doctor#and then when i started some meds. and also was OUT OF HIS CLASS. and in the pastry class. and was a little more comfortable#he wanted to take credit for 'bringing me out of my shell' 😐 and i wish i had said what i was thinking. and looked him in the eye#and said thanks its cause of the drugs.#not only were the internship hours insane but also the class hours and the graduating test#i get that the classes have to be longer bc we need time for things to cook but . 8/9 hours ??? dudeeee#obviously i didn't get to the graduating test class thing but the way he described it sounded like torture 😭#and ofc you cant find that info online before you enroll. and they only offered it in summer#so if you finished in fall you still had to wait through spring to technically graduate. assuming you pass the week long torture test

#like mondays ok i wont skip bc i hv french lit but after tht i hv a span class likely convo n i hate convo#tho i'm not sure bc convo usually has 3 options n the one with 3 options this time is on tues n online so idk#even if it's not convo i hate all span classes n now i'm likely not getting the minor why bother????#tues i hv the online span class at 8-10 thing is i hv a physical french class at 10-11 so the best option is leaving home to get the 6 bus#n arrive at uni for 8 n go to class from there#but also i cld just uh stay home attend class skip the french bc it's 1 hr of listening n then i hv apparenlty 5? hrs of class from2#so i'll just go in for those yah#wed im free yipee#thurs i hv a 2 hr fren class. alone tht's so skippable why go to uni for 2 hrs when i can stay home???? sorry my commute is legit like 4+hr#then fri i hv 3 hrs in the afternoon from 3 wont skip bc it's my elective n a span course#n like my elective is full coursework also so are fren n span so like not bad i shld be able to even myb bring up my gpa#i'll just hv one exam n tht's fren lit ew cringe#but really im just not feeling all of this bleh#cloud nonsense

#the two most agonising things a human can experience: starting 2 new classes tomorrow AND having to write a sex scene#the history class shouldn't be THAT hard all things considered#but the japanese class looks to be pretty intense#its three sessions in person plus 2 online classes per week#which is like...8 and a half hours a week i think??#then i have another (slightly less intensive) japanese class to do as well but that one starts on wednesday#i only have 4 different modules this term but yeah that japanese one is pretty hefty#granted the sex scene is entirely my own doing so i can't REALLY complain#but god. every time i start one i remember how utterly excruciating the last one was and why i said i would never do it again 😭#this one also has the unique distinction of being solely composed of characters whose anatomy i can concretely define#which may not sound like much but its certainly different to how i normally write these things#(i.e. w characters whose anatomy is left up to the reader's interpretation)#so you know. immediately after ordering textbooks I got an email informing me that there's space for me in the Luke class I'd wanted to take
#a sock speaks#grad school tag#it feels almost miraculous that I decided not to buy those books that were on course reserves?#the only required textbook for this class was $8 after shipping.#there's a recommended Bible but I'm going to wait till the first day of class to see how strongly recommended it is#this means I have 3 classes on Tuesday but I have Monday off now! and 2/3 are online so it's not so bad#I have a 2 hour gap between the online morning class and the in person online class#and 3.5 hours between that and the online evening class#so a very full day but not impossible. I might see about reserving space on campus for the morning online class.
